The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has raised Third-Party insurance coverage for motorists from N5,000 to N15,000 yearly with effect from January 2023.

The approval is contained in a circular titled: New Premium Rate for Motor Insurance and signed by the Director, Policy and Regulation, NAICOM, Mr Leo Akah, for the Commissioner for Insurance. The circular was addressed to insurance companies and dated Dec. 22, 2022.

“Pursuant to the exercise of its function of approving rates of insurance premium under Section 7 of NAICOM Act 1997 and other extant laws, the Commission hereby issues this circular on the new motor insurance premium rates effective from Jan. 1, 2023,” it stated.

The commission also stated that the Third Party Property Damage (TPPD) which is the limit of claims an insurer can enjoy on a policy for a private vehicle will now be N3 million for the new premium of N15,000. It stated that the limit for own goods would be N5 million, with a new premium of N20,000.

The insurance premium rate payable on staff buses is now N20,000 and its TPPD would be N3 million.

The statement further adds that commercial vehicles, trucks, and general cartage now have a TPPD limit of N5 million with a N100,000 premium rate; “special types’’ now have a TPPD limit of N3 million and a premium of N20,000.

Tricycles now have a TPPD limit of N2 million and a premium of N5000 while motorcycles now have a TPPD limit N1 million and a premium of N3000.

According to NAICOM, the Comprehensive insurance policy premium rate shall not be less than 5 percent of the sum insured after all rebates or discounts.

The commission threatened to sanction any warned insurers to be guided by the new policy as failure to comply would be appropriately sanctioned.

Woman writes and prints offences her street residents committed against her all year then shares copies to the whole street

A woman has typed and printed all the offences people in her neighbourhood committed against her all year round and she distributed copies to the neighbourhood.

The woman, said to be a gifted mathematics teacher, does this yearly, a Twitter user living in her neighbourhood revealed.

This year, she printed a four-page document naming everyone who offended her during the year.

The woman, who lives on Johnson Street, Kirikiri Town, Apapa, Lagos, listed not only people on her street but also residents of nearby Karimu Street who offended her.

She gave the names and addresses of each individual and the offence they committed against her.

She accused some neighbours of trying to "kill" her after killing her father and mother.

She also accused most couples living in the area of cohabiting and having children without marriage certificates.

Almost every couple she mentioned, she accused them of living together "with no marriage certificate."

"Where is Mr Okoli's wife? Is there a/any marriage certificate?" she asked in the document.

She seems to have a major bone to pick with Camerooniansband complained repeatedly that Cameroonians have taken over most of the businesses in the area.

"Please deport them all back to Cameroon,: she wrote.

She added: "The yellow man and his girlfriend living together as husband and wife without a/any marriage certificate... Please deport them back to Cameroon."

She also wrote: "Mama Papillo on 11 Karimu street, on the other side of Johnson Street... frying akara, plantain and ogi, and all her children. Six children without a/any marriage certificate. Please deport her and her children back to Cameroon.

Joseph Hayab, chairperson of the Kaduna chapter of the
Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has expressed concern over the plot to arrest and detain Godwin Emefiele , governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

TheCable had reported how a federal high court in Abuja
declined an application by the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest Emefiele over terrorism charges.

There are suggestions that the bid to arrest Emefiele might be political given the impact the redesign of the naira and limit on cash withdrawals might have on vote buying inbthe 2023 elections.

Reacting, Hayab, in a statement, wondered how the new CBN policy has become a tool for politicians to pick a fight with Emefiele.

He accused the politicians of wanting to intimidate the CBN governor in order to carry out voter inducement during the elections.

“What are those against CBN new money policy hiding?” he asked.

“We are concerned that what should be a monetary policy has become a tool for some politicians to pick a fight with the Governor of the Central Bank and his board. Why would a spokesman of a political party be releasing a statement encouraging the DSS to go after the CBN Governor?

“That shows that this is a case of the voice of Jacob and
the hand of Esau. Surely, every right-thinking Nigerian
knows that politicians had stockpiled huge sums of cash
in order to manipulate the 2023 elections.

“Indeed, we saw the image on a blackboard behind the son of a prominent politician where the words ‘monetary inducement’ was boldly written. Therefore, we are of the
considered view that the attempt to intimidate the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria into abandoning the program of redesigning the naira and the new ATM limits is at the behest of politicians whose election strategy is based on money inducement.

“We remind all and sundry that the international community is watching this unfolding artificial crisis and is not fooled by the positioning of those who want to frustrate this patriotic policy. No one should take the silence and patience of Nigerians for granted. Nigerians have suffered enough.”

The National President of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders
Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Baba Ngelzarma, has
accused President Buhari of abandoning pastoralists in the
country despite the support they gave to him during his
2019 re-election.

Ngelzarma who was the former secretary of the association
before his election as president, said this during a chat with
newsmen in Abuja on Saturday, December 18. According to
him, the Buhari-led administration has budgeted large sums
of money for other sectors of Agriculture in the country and
has sidelined animal husbandry.

“On the eve of the last election that brought in Buhari for the second term, we endorsed him. We showed the world that we are with him but thereafter, up till now as I speak to you, nothing has been done.

Buhari has abandoned the pastoralists. This is very clear, whether Buhari or his lieutenants, the pastoralists have been abandoned by the government. In the last eight years, nothing tangible… while over N500 billion was spent on agronomy, nothing was spent on livestock, almost nothing.

Go and check all the state government’s budgetary provisions including the federal government’s budgetary provisions. If you see what is budgeted for livestock, you will be surprised.

Livestock is being neglected completely.”

He argued though the association is happy about the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP), it would do
little or nothing to address the problems of pastoralists.

“Only recently the Buhari administration started implementing the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) where some states have accessed the N3 billion, N6 billion funding.

Some states started it, the one in Yola has started but we see it as a project that cannot solve the problem.

How do you think a livestock centre that can accommodate not more than 20,000 cows can solve the problem of the cows in Adamawa that are over two million? But as a model, it is okay, we appreciate it. At least the pastoralists will see how to modernise animal husbandry.”he said
