A group, Centre for Africa Liberation and Socio- Economic Rights, sponsored by Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, has asked Amnesty International to leave Nigeria within seven days. The group threatened to kill all Amnesty International workers and burn down their Lagos and Abuja offices if the organisation refused to leave the country. “For Nigeria to rebuild, Amnesty International must be out of the way. CALSER, therefore, gives Amnesty International a seven-day ultimatum to leave Nigeria. The NGO’s failure to leave Nigeria will attract civil disobedience at its offices in Abuja and Lagos on a scale that will make the campaign of looting and arson it facilitated appear like child’s play. “Its staffers will be treated the same way that innocent policemen lynched by mobs were treated,” Princess Ajibola, convener of CASLER, said during a press briefing on Wednesday. The group’s threat followed revelations by Amnesty International that at least 10 persons demanding an end to police brutality in the country were killed by the Nigerian Army during the shooting of peaceful protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate area of Lagos on October 20. The incident sparked global outrage with thugs using the opportunity to vandalise and destroy public facilities including police stations and bus parks across the country. According to a source in the military, one Philip Agbese from Benue State is the leader of the Centre for Africa Liberation and Socio-Economic Rights and all other groups used for such sinister purposes by Buratai and other government officials. “All the groups and NGOs are fake, they are being funded by Buratai. They were all founded by one Philip Agbese, an indigene of Benue State. “He created all groups and NGOs supporting the military, about 10 of them. They have media houses too and have made plenty of money from Buratai,” the source said. Under Buratai’s watch, the Nigerian Army has failed to safeguard much of the country’s territory especially in the North-East, leaving bandits and Boko Haram terrorists to run riot on civilian targets and military bases. Calls to President Muhammadu Buhari by Nigerians to sack the country’s service chiefs including Buratai for the rising insecurity in the society have been met with silence as the military heads have continued to keep their positions despite changes needed. http://saharareporters.com/2020/11/05/group-sponsored-nigeria’s-chief-army-buratai-threatens-kill-amnesty-international-workers

The President of US has alleged that his votes are disappearing. President Donald Trump raised the alarm on Facebook, saying that he can't understand how he was magically upstaged in key states by his Democrat opponent Joe Biden. In a post on his verified Facebook page, Mr Trump said the reason for his disappearing electoral fortune was the “dumping” of “surprise ballot”. “Last night I was leading, often solidly, in many key States, in almost all instances Democrat run & controlled. Then, one by one, they started to magically disappear as surprise ballot dumps were counted. “VERY STRANGE, and the “pollsters” got it completely & historically wrong!” https://www.facebook.com/153080620724/posts/10165757755100725/?app=fbl |

After a week-long #EndSARS protest, violence had broken out leading to looting of public and private properties across the country. Garba Shehu, media aide to the president, in a statement on Sunday, said the president has urged the police and other security agencies to restore calm and normalcy as quickly as possible. “President Buhari said while his administration is working hard through many pragmatic ways to reduce the hardship of the millions of our unemployed, poor citizens and those whose lives have been thrown into disarray by the harsh economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, he warned that resort to widespread attacks and the organised looting and plundering of public and private property in many states are inimical to public good and stand condemned,” the statement read. “A government that has launched a massive crackdown on corruption, brought in strong laws for a decisive battle against corruption, pursues loot recovery at home and abroad, and taken strong decisions against those who thought they were above the law, will not fold its arms when an otherwise legitimate and peaceful protest is turning into free-for-all vandalism and looting. “While the administration has, for its part, blocked so many means of looting public money in a war against corruption, it is the expectation that all civil authorities, community and religious leaders in the country must rise against the organised looting and plunder we are witnessing in parts of the country. “Families must turn back children who bring home unaccounted goods, in the same way wives must ask their husbands to return looted items brought home.” The president said the incidents of vandalism and looting do not reflect well on the country’s image and should not be supported by reasonable members of the society. “What is more, is that criminal actions as we have so far witnessed can weaken and erode the confidence of our people and that of foreign businesses in investing in the economy,” he was quoted as saying. “Looting and vandalism will hurt trade and investment growth in our country, both large and small industries, as well as our hardworking people in the informal sectors of the economy.” Violence escalated across the country after soldiers opened fire on peaceful #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos on October 20. Buhari has come under criticism for not mentioning the Lekki shooting in his speech to address the protest, but the presidency insists that “he had all along avoided going into a debate about the Lekki toll-gate incidents until all the facts are established.” The president, however, appealed to the people all over the country to maintain peace. He also commended state governments that have set up judicial panels to look into human rights abuses by police officers. https://thecable.ng/turn-back-family-members-who-bring-home-unaccounted-goods-buhari-condemns-looting-amid-endsars-protests

There was the rumour that the former Lagos governor travelled out to avoid being mobbed by some angry protesters who accused him of being behind the Lekki shooting. On Tuesday, soldiers opened fire on #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki tollgate, and this sparked off an outrage in Nigeria and across the world. Addressing journalists after visiting Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos on Saturday, Tinubu dismissed the rumour of his travel as fake news, describing himself as ”Jagaban”. The APC leader holds the title of Jagaban of Borgu in Niger state. “I didn’t go nowhere; I’m a Lagosian and I still hold the title of Asiwaju of Lagos and I am still a Jagaban,” he said. “Fake news is all over the place. They say Seyi my son was kidnapped and was chased but look at him. I didn’t pay a penny to bring him here.” He said he had come to see the governor to ask him who ordered the shooting of protesters at the tollgate. “First, we have to segregate the calendar – those who suffered casualty before the protests from the hands of SARS. You have to separate that from those who suffered casualty due to what happened at the tollgate,” he said. “For those who suffered casualty from SARS, the commission of inquiry that is already set up will unearth that and will make their recommendations. I trust the calibre and the character of the people there, they are independent. That is one. “Those who suffered casualty during the gunshots need to answer some questions too. Even though we want to help, we still must extract information that will help the government to prepare in future and understand how and when to react because the governor, in particular, is a youth. “As a youth himself, he (Sanwo-Olu) quickly went to Abuja with the 5/5. The government immediately put into action, dissolved the SARS and had to work through other recommended actions, the needs they demanded. Within a few days, he reported back to the public. That is responsive enough.” Tinubu also condemned the burning of police stations and other public infrastructure. https://thecable.ng/im-jagaban-i-didnt-go-anywhere-tinubu-dismisses-rumour-of-fleeing-lagos

According to the BBC , the president announced the death toll during a virtual meeting with former leaders and security chiefs on Friday. Buhari was quoted as saying 51 civilians, 11 police officers, and seven soldiers had been killed in the unrest. A statement released by Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, at the end of the meeting also quoted Buhari as saying it is unfortunate that the “initial genuine and well- intended protest of youths was hijacked and misdirected”. According to the statement, the president said despite accepting the demands of the protesters, they refused to stop the demonstrations. ”Unfortunately, the protesters refused to call off the protest and engage the government to address their grievances. Instead, they became emboldened and gradually turned violent,” the president was quoted to have said. Buhari maintained that the federal government will not fold its arms and allow “miscreants and criminals continue to perpetrate acts of hooliganism in the country”. ”We shall also continue to ensure that liberty and freedom, as well as the fundamental rights of all citizens are protected. Here, I want to also reaffirm our commitment to preserving the unity of this country,” the statement read. “The President thanked the former Heads of State for attending the meeting and their invaluable comments, observations and advice, adding that ‘Nigerians expect nothing less from responsible statesmen’. “Each of the former leaders commended President Buhari for steps taken so far to restore calm and order to the country and also applauded the presidential broadcast of Thursday as detailed and soothing to the country. “The former heads of state were unanimous in their view that generation of employment and growing the economy, including through direct foreign investments, were critical to checking youth restiveness. “The former heads of state also condemned the divisive and inciting pronouncements of separatists and were of the opinion that such acts should be stopped. “Equally, the former leaders commended the actions taken by governors to address the demands of the ENDSARS protesters and their efforts to check the excesses of those who perpetrated violent acts and conduct. “Finally, they called on youths to pursue peaceful means in seeking redress through engagement with government, and encouraged further conversation with the youths and other stakeholders in the country.” https://thecable.ng/buhari-69-persons-killed-in-endsars-protests |

The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has expressed regrets that “diabolical influencers in form of hooliganism, ethno- religious bigots and even political marauders” are bent on pulling the nation down and pushing for regime change. The governors also wondered why protests have persisted despite the “magnanimity exhibited” by the federal and state governments. In a communique issued at the end of their emergency meeting in Kaduna on Thursday, the governors urged Nigerians to resist “enemies of the nation” by supporting the president. According to the communique signed by Simon Lalong, chairman of the forum and governor of Plateau state, the forum extensively discussed issues bordering on national security, particularly the nationwide #EndSARS protest which has led to the wanton destruction of lives and properties in some parts of the country. “Concerned by these development, the Northern States Governors Forum met and deliberated on the matter,” the communique. “Forum commiserates with those who lost their lives, the wounded and those whose properties where destroyed. “Forum strongly sues for unity and peaceful co- existence of all citizens and groups of people in Nigeria and urge all Nigerians to see themselves as equal citizens of the country as the unity of Nigeria cannot be compromised. “The forum regrets the diabolical influencers in form of hooliganism, ethno-religious bigots and even political marauders who are bent on pulling the nation down its knees and pushing for regime change. “The forum called on all Nigerians to resist these enemies of the nation by supporting Mr. President, the federal government and democracy at large. “Forum appeal to all citizens to restraint themselves from unwarranted disposition of sentiments, harassment and intimidation of other citizens resident in their home states. Forum notes that all these are antics of the enemies of the country who are violently pushing for regime change outside the ballot box. “Forum also notes the heavy presence of external influencers both locally and internationally and called on all citizens particularly community leaders and youth groups to be very vigilant and report the presence of such people to security agencies. The forum called for comprehensive and robust reforms in the police force.” The governors also advocated for the constitution of judicial commission of enquiry to investigate all levels of destruction and killings during the #EndSARS protest. They also called “for greater synergy between the state and the federal government in strengthening the unity, oneness and overall development of the country.” “The forum is in synergy with other governors in the South- West, South-South and South- East to address this challenges of nationhood headlong.” https://thecable.ng/breaking-hooligans-pushing-for-regime-change-say-northern-governors |
The Presidency on Wednesday appealed to Nigerians to show understanding with the present regime and remain calm while it tries to implement police reforms. The call was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, titled, ‘President Buhari welcomes establishment of judicial panels of inquiry by 13 states to deliver justice for victims of police brutality’. The call for calm came few hours after eyewitnesses claimed armed soldiers opened fire on protesting youths at the Lekki toll gate area in Lagos State. Reeling out the steps he claimed have so far been taking to address the demands of the protesters, Adesina wrote, “The Presidency appeals for understanding and calm across the nation, as the implementation of the reforms gathers pace at federal and state levels. “The Presidency wishes to reiterate the full commitment of the Buhari administration to the implementation of lasting police reforms in Nigeria.” The presidential spokesman claimed that at the last count, no fewer than 13 states have established judicial panels of inquiry as resolved by the National Economic Council to address the question of redress and justice for victims of police brutality across the country. He listed the states that have done so to include Lagos, Kaduna, Delta, Ekiti, Ogun, Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Plateau, Edo, Nasarawa, Ondo and Akwa Ibom. The statement added, “President Muhammadu Buhari welcomes the promptness of these necessary subnational actions, and reaffirms his commitment to supporting the state governments to ensure that justice is achieved for all victims of police brutality in Nigeria. “Under the Chairmanship of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the National Economic Council at its meeting on Thursday October 15, 2020 resolved to establish state-level Judicial Panels of Inquiry, to investigate allegations of Police brutality and ensure that all erring personnel are brought to justice. “Prior to that, the President in June 2019 signed a Bill establishing the Police Trust Fund, to mobilize additional funding for the welfare and equipping of the Nigeria Police Force. Accrual of funding into the Fund, as specified in its enabling Act, has commenced. “President Buhari in 2018 approved an increase in police salaries and the police personnel budget has seen a rise from N288bn in the 2018 Budget to N417bn in the proposed 2021 budget; an increase of 45 per cent. “Only on Tuesday, at the commissioning of the Nigerian Police Pension Fund Limited building, the President also reiterated continuous support for both serving and retired police personnel. “The President has equally approved the rollout and funding of a new Community Policing Initiative, as part of a larger programme of police reform in Nigeria, aimed at rewriting the rules of engagement between the Force and citizens. “President Buhari’s commitment to extensive Police reforms should never be in doubt. The President in September 2020 signed the new Nigeria Police Act, the first comprehensive revision of the Police Act in decades.” Adesina added that as Buhari declared, the immediate dissolution of the Special Anti- Robbery Squad was the first step in a set of reform policies that will deliver a police system accountable to Nigerians. He said the President had also approved full implementation of the report of the 2018-2019 Presidential Panel on Police Reform. “Indeed, the National Human Rights Commission and the Police Service Commission have now commenced the implementation of the report,” he added. https://www.independent.ng/presidency-appeals-for-understanding-calm-nationwide/

The Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress engaged in a war of words over the attack on #EndSARS protesters by armed thugs in Lagos State . The PDP had earlier indicted Governor Babajide Sanwo -Olu over the attack , giving him 24 hours to fish out the hoodlums that attacked the protesters in Lagos. APC tackled PDP , accusing the opposition party in Lagos of politicisation of #EndSARS protests. “Sanwo - Olu should to fish out all the attackers of the # EndSARS protests within 24 hours and also ensure no such attack occurs anymore . Unless the governor successfully achieves this, he may be an accessory after the fact of the attacks, it does not matter whether he pledged N 200 million as compensation to the victims of the protests The governor would come out as a sincere chief security officer of the State only if he can prove that he really protects the security of lives and property in the state . Such a task is to ensure the security of all peaceful protester in the state , ” the Lagos PDP, in a statement by its spokesperson, Taofik Gani , said . But APC described PDP’ s comment as irresponsible in a statement by the party ’ s Publicity Secretary , Mr Seye Oladejo. “Our attention has been drawn to the needless and irresponsible politicising of the # EndSARS nationwide protest by the opposition PDP. “The attempt in the social media , sponsored by the opposition PDP, to hold the state government responsible is, to say the least , the height of bitter politics . “However , our investigation has revealed that the PDP would like to take advantage of the spate of protest to cause mayhem because of the October bye -elections in the Lagos East Senatorial District. “Our intelligence has revealed the plans to unleash further attacks on the protesters , especially in the Kosofe Local Government in the days ahead . https://punchng.com/apc-pdp-clash-over-attack-on-endsars-protesters-in-lagos/

A woman has alleged that police mocked her family when they called for help during a robbery attack. The Twitter user claimed her aunt and daughter were attacked by thieves today, October 15. The thieves reportedly "used a gun on" her aunt then used a knife to cut her aunt's daughter. When they called the police to intervene, she claims the police said, "Shebi they are saying #EndSARSNow." She said the incident happened in Abia state and the police officers they called for help are the ones stationed in Umoba police station. She added that the robbery attacks have been going on since the lockdown started and the police had done nothing about it, except to ask for fuel money to patrol.
