Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of the police (IGP), has asked Ibrahim Magu, suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to direct his bail application to the presidential panel. Oluwatosin Ojaomo, Magu’s legal representative, asked the IGP to grant bail to his client on “self recognisance” — after the suspended EFCC chief had spent four days in custody. Magu was arrested on July 6 and whisked to the presidential villa in Abuja where he was grilled by the panel headed by Ayo Salami, a retired president of the appeal court. He was later moved to Area 10 force criminal investigation department (FCID) of the police in Abuja where he has since been detained. He is being probed for alleged gross misconduct. He was alleged to have mishandled the recovered loot and sold seized assets to his associates. In a letter dated July 14, 2020, and addressed to Ojaomo, the IGP said the police force is not investigating and detaining Magu, so, it cannot grant the bail request. The letter, signed by Idowu Owohunwa, principal staff officer to the IGP, advised the lawyer to redirect his request to the chairman of the presidential panel for appropriate attention. “The Inspector-General of Police directs that your attention be drawn to the fact that the Nigeria Police Force is not investigating CP Ibrahim Magu (your client), and he is accordingly, not being detained by the Police but by the Presidential Panel that is investigating the activities of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),” the letter read. “The Inspector-General of Police, therefore, advises that you reconsider directing your request to the Chairman of the Presidential Panel for appropriate attention. “I am to convey the assurances of the warmest regards of the Inspector General of Police, please.” A report by the presidential panel accused Magu of turning the EFCC into a “glorified police station” for alleged selfish motives. According to the report, Magu seconded police officers to the EFCC in spite of the massive recruitment of officers and men carried out by the commission in recent years. https://www.thecable.ng/igp-rejects-magus-request-for-bail-directs-him-to-presidential-panel |
Twelve directors of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have been suspended. On Tuesday, Abubakar Malami, attorney- general of the federation (AGF), sent a letter to Mohammed Umar, acting EFCC chairman, notifying him of the suspension of the directors. TheCable understands that some of the directors affected by the action have been involved in investigating Malami — though the office of the AGF linked the exercise to the probe of Ibrahim Magu, the suspended acting chairman of the anti-graft agency. Malami admitted to approving the sale of oil assets seized by the EFCC, but said the sale followed due process. Kabir Akingbolu, a human rights lawyer, had said the AGF risked five years in prison for “illegally” approving the auctioning of the sea vessels holding crude oil and diesel. Last week, the suspended acting EFCC chairman was arrested and marshalled before a presidential panel led by Ayo Salami, retired president of the court of appeal, probing the operations of the agency under him. He was later suspended and detained. A slew of allegations has come to the fore since his arrest. He was alleged to have purchased a property in Dubai, United Arab Emirate using a pastor as a conduit. He was also alleged to have laundered over N500 billion through a bureau-de-change in Kaduna. Magu, through his lawyers, has denied the allegations. https://www.thecable.ng/12-efcc-directors-suspended-including-those-probing-malami |

A man has suffered penile fracture while engaging in rigorous sex with his partner in a hotel. A Nigerian medical personnel, @OlumideAdeuyi, who shared graphic photos of the fractured penis online, said the man was ''pounding vigorously'' when he hit the ''Mons Pubis'', a part of the female vaginal anatomy, resulting in his penis fracturing. It happened around 5am sunday AM in a nearby hotel. D guy ws pounding away vigorously. In a bid 2 give d hardest and strongest thrust from a little distance outside the box, he crashed his penis on the mons pubis. The next thing he heard was a sound kam, the penis was bent.https://mobile.twitter.com/OlumideAdeuyi/status/1283331821862891521 Popular Nigerian medical doctor and social media influencer, @DrOlufunmilayo took time to explain how penile fracture can happen to a man and the aftereffect of such an accident. A young man just had penis fracture. It is rare but it can happen. Penis contains no bones but when fully erect it can break suddenly. Rough sex and aggressive riding can cause it. “Harder harder” “Let me write coconut with my hips” Solape the stallion, please come down o. While we are all laughing, This is really a serious emergency. The guy will actually hear kpauuuu like a fanbelt cuts suddenly. And what happens is similar. The expanded tissues under the erect penis skin suddenly tears due to the rough sex. Very painful. Like breaking a bone. And as I said it is an emergency Surgery has to be done immediately. If nothing is done: That penis can be permanently deformed, the man may never get an erection again or struggle to get it, he may never be able to have sex and to urinate can become a problem. And in case you have never seen what it looks like before, here are som images: (The broken penis becomes bent, deformed, swollen and engorged with blood from internal bleeding into the penis) It’s not a great sight at all. So please, dear entanglement crew, Let’s be careful.

The Federal Government has put on hold the planned resumption of federal schools, The PUNCH reports. It has also stopped students from participating in the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations earlier scheduled for August 4 to September 5. The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, disclosed this to State House Correspondents at the end of a meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). The minister said federal schools would remain closed until it is safe to reopen them. He also urged state governments that have announced school resumption plans to rescind such. Adamu stated that the West African Examinations Council cannot determine the resumption date of schools for Nigeria. He said he would prefer that Nigerian students lose an academic year than to expose them to dangers. A source at the presidency says the allegations against Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC), cannot be ignored because they are weighty. The source, who pleaded for anonymity because no one has been authorised to speak on the probe, told reporters on Tuesday that anyone occupying the position of Magu should not be suspected of being involved in any fraudulent activity. Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), had accused Magu of gross infractions. The AGF had asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack Magu over some “weighty” allegations, including the diversion of recovered loot. In addition to allegedly re-looting the recovered loot, Malami accused the acting EFCC chairman of insubordination and misconduct. Security operatives whisked Magu to the presidential villa in Abuja on Monday and he was grilled by a panel set up to probe the anti-graft commission. He was detained at the police headquarters overnight and the interrogation continued on Tuesday. The source said the investigation of the EFCC boss reinforces Buhari’s commitment to transparency and accountability. He said it shows that nobody in the Buhari administration is above scrutiny. “The panel investigating allegations against acting EFCC Chairman had been sitting for some weeks now,” the source said. “In consonance with the principle of fairness and justice, it was needful that the acting Chairman be given opportunity to respond to the allegations, which are weighty in nature. “Under the Muhammadu Buhari administration, nobody is above scrutiny. Repeat: nobody. The investigation is to reinforce transparency and accountability, rather than to vitiate it. “Accountability for our actions or inactions is inalienable part of democracy. In such elevated position as that of EFCC Chairman, the holder of the position must be above suspicion. “There’s no prejudgment – absolutely none. The Buhari administration can be counted on to uphold fairness and justice at all times.” https://www.thecable.ng/presidential-aide-why-allegations-against-magu-cant-be-ignored |

Billionaire oil magnate , Prince Arthur Eze, on Sunday said Ndigbo owed the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari ( retd .), eternal gratitude for what he called the massive provision of economic and infrastructural facilities in the South - East geopolitical zone . He said Igbo benefitted more under his regime, adding that Buhari had become a hero in the area for religiously executing projects like Akanu Ibiam International Airport and the 2nd Niger Bridge. He added that with the creation of zonal police headquarters ( zone 13) at Ukpo Dunukofia in Anambra State , Buhari had shown exceptional love to the people of the area. He said this in a statement by his media consultant, Mr Oliver Okpala. The statement read in part , “President Mohammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police have demonstrated uncommon goodwill towards the people of the South -East geopolitical zone and should now rest assured of our unalloyed support and loyalty. “The modernisation and uplifting of the Akanu Ibiam Airport to an international standard with modern runway and facilities that can compete favourably with any airport in any part of the world , is another step worthy of commendation. “The concern of the South - East zone in terms of security , protection of lives and property has been tackled head on by the President “Citing a new police zonal headquarters as zone 13 at Ukpo , Dunukofia, in the Awka Capital Territory of Anambra State is a feat that has shown clearly that the President is man of the moment for the Igbo and the entire South - East. https://punchng.com/igbo-owe-buhari-eternal gratitude-says-arthur-eze/ |

Gideon Okeke wrote; One Nigeria ! One Nigeria !! But We're not quite willing to let go of the coattails of TRIBALISM. Even AD commercials/Radio Jingles are culpable of passing subliminal messages that are nuanced in ways that make one wonder if there are : - 3 Nigerias or - 187 Others or - Just 1 Nigeria. If You still regard your neighbor with these derrogatives : - Omo-Ibo , - Yoruba, - Nyammiri... You might be RACIST. Or sold to BIGOTRY. https://f5p3e9e4.stackpathcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Ohaneze-Ndigbo-653x365.png How much progress has Nigeria made with its ethnic-motility politics? Since 1999, we have had presidents of different ethnic extractions – Yoruba, Fulani, and Ijaw – who were largely elected on the portfolio of ethnicity and religion rather than on the content of their minds? But how have we fared? The Obasanjo administration despite investing billions of dollars, estimated to be around $16 billion, in the power sector, did not crack a fire; the country is still trolled by the undersupply of electricity. And subsequent administrations, including the current one are yet to find the X of the power problem. Other sectors – health and education — suffer the same kismet. ‘’Turn-by-turn presidency’’, which is strictly based on ethnicity and religion, will not turn around our ruined fortunes. The 2015 mistake was the fallout of this deprecating ‘’na-our-turn’’ arrangement. Becoming the president of the most populous black nation in the 21st century is not by character, qualifications, accomplishments, competence, and integrity but by the emulsion of ethnicity and religion. Tragic! We cannot make progress this way. Yes. I know I once made an argument for a president of Igbo extraction in 2023. My position was that we have to create a system which will engender unity, justice and fairness for all citizens. But this does not negate the very important place of competence for leadership. Competence trounces every other consideration in the checklist of leadership. As a matter of fact, the current arrangement exacerbates corruption because whatever leadership that is trumped up by this orthodoxy will see power not as a means to build the nation, but as an avenue to corner resources to its own part of the country. That is what is happening now. We have an administration, which without scruples and with defiance, peopled the security architecture with 97 percent of officers from a section of the country. And we have a president who has not flinched in letting everyone know that the section of the country which gave him 97 percent vote must be treated better than the section which gave him ‘’5 percent’’ vote. This is the consequence of ‘’turn-by-turn’’ political ordering. We are likely to make the same mistakes of 2015 and 2019 in 2023 if we persist on this patched path. This brings me to the question: What is really our national interest? Do we have a national interest? Or are there disparate interests? In essence, Hausa interest, Igbo interest, Yoruba interest and Christian/ Muslim interest? Perhaps, our national interest is dependent on the religious or ethnic background of the leadership of the day. Whichever way it swings, it is predicated on the primordial. Our ethnically-charged selection process influences all aspects of our national life. At a time of grave insecurity, there is no urgency to curb the incursion of armed herders from outside the country. This is despite reports that some of the bandits terrorising the country are foreigners from Niger Republic. The reasoning is that the leadership of the day is dithering because of the umbilical cord of ethnicity. The way forward for us is obviously not ethnic politics, which has held us down for years. As I said in my previous article, ‘We.must renounce our tribal identities; I’m Nigerian Not Igbo’, we must begin to erode ‘’tribal identities’’ and to build the ‘’Nigerian identity’’ to make progress as one country. We need a Nigerian leadership to foster a sense of nationhood among the variegated peoples of the country. The more we emphasise ethnicity and religion in our politics the further we are divided along these devious lines. Nigerians need a Nigerian president in 2023 NOT — an Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa or Fulani president — a leader who has been tested with responsibility and leadership; a president for all. These people are not in short supply here. Fredrick Nwabufo is a writer and journalist Twitter: @FredrickNwabufo https://www.thecable.ng/2023-isnt-the-igbos-turn-for-presidency-its-nigerians |
