Health15 COVID-19 Cases In Bauchi Are From Cross River - Governor Bala Mohammed by ExAngel007(op): 8:29am On Jun 11, 2020
Fifteen COVID-19 Cases In Bauchi Came From Infection-Free Calabar – Gov. Mohammed

Bauchi state Governor, Bala Mohammed, has cast aspersions on Cross River state’s COVID-19-free status.

In a press briefing on Wednesday, Mr. Mohammed said 15 COVID-19 cases in Bauchi were people travelling from Calabar, Cross River’s capital city.

He also threatened to lock down Bauchi city if the number of infections continues to rise.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Cross River state is the only region in the country without any confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

“I don’t want to join issues with anybody,” Mohammed said. “But I want to tell Nigerians that they are going to be accountable to God.

“There is no need pretending that this thing is not there. We as leaders, we must come out and face the challenges.

“We in Bauchi, we are not pretending.”

Bauchi reported a daily record high of 69 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.

The Governor blamed the rising cases of infections on people’s lax attitude towards health guidelines such as handwashing, use of sanitisers and face masks.

“Some of our places of worship, especially the mosques, they are the epicentre of infections, and nobody is doing anything,” he said.

“I am pleading with the people of Bauchi, if this thing continues to happen – we are bordered by seven states, some of them are worse – in order to secure the common people of Bauchi, I might have to lock up Bauchi.”

PoliticsAliyu Aziz: Over 100 Million Nigerians Have No Form Of Identification by ExAngel007(op): 12:42am On Jun 11, 2020
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says more than 100 million Nigerians have no form of identification.

Aliyu Aziz, director-general of the NIMC, disclosed this during a meeting with editors held via Zoom on Wednesday.

Aziz, who spoke on the topic: “Strategic Roadmap for ID Development”, said less than 50 percent of the country’s population is not enrolled in the commission’s database.

“Over 100 million Nigerians have no identity (ID). These include the poorest and the most vulnerable groups, such as the marginalised – women and girls, the less-educated people, migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, stateless persons, people with disabilities and people living in rural and remote areas,” he said.

“The estimated population of Nigeria stands at 200 million. Only about 38 percent of the population have any form of ID.”

According to the NIMC boss, the commission has issued 41.5 million unique identifiers, known as national identification numbers (NIN), since the commencement of identity registration and enrolment in 2012.

He also said the commission registers all Nigerian citizens within and outside the country, as well as legal residents.

“Between 2012 till date, only 41.5 million citizens and legal residents have been enrolled into the National Identity Database (NIDB) and issued unique NIN, an average of 5.2 million enrollments per annum,” he said.

“At this rate, it will take a long time to enroll the remainder of the people currently living in the country today, and by that time, about 292 million more people would have been added.

“Hence, the need for a strategy to enroll the backlog within the shortest possible time. And that is the reason for the idea of strategic roadmap and the birth of the ecosystem approach.”

Aziz said while the identity card had an expiration date, the NIN issued was for a lifetime, and emphasised the need for people to be registered.

“Identity matters a lot for development, as inclusive and trusted ID systems can help achieve the goals of empowering individuals and enhancing their access to rights, services and the formal economy,” he added.

“It helps in strengthening transparency, promoting efficiency and effectiveness in governance, service delivery and accountability.

“It also supports private sector development and service delivery, grows digital economy as well as regional and global integration as well as generates reliable data.

“Good ID system supports development goals, including access to finance, gender and equality, empowerment, access to basic health and education services, child protection, migration and labour market opportunities, improved access and quality of social protection as well as governance.”

He said people were registering more in Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna and Kano compared to other cities, while residents in the south-east appeared to show little interest in the identity capturing, NAN reported.

According to the NIMC director-general, the commission had entered strategic partnerships with NAN, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and other media agencies to sensitise Nigerians on the importance of identity registration.

HealthWomen’s Eggs Prefer Some Men’s Sperm Over Others, New Research Shows by ExAngel007(op): 12:19am On Jun 11, 2020
According to a new study, a woman's eggs may be selective towards sperm cells and prefer some over the others.

The study carried out by Stockholm University, in partnership with the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) looked into the chemicals used by a female egg to attract male sperm and results show that a woman's eggs may prefer sperm cells of some men to others.

‘Human eggs release chemicals called chemoattractants that attract sperm to unfertilized eggs. We wanted to know if eggs use these chemical signals to pick which sperm they attract,’ said John Fitzpatrick, an associate professor at Stockholm University.

The study specifically looked at follicular fluid, which surrounds the eggs and contains the chemicals that attract sperm.

The study checked if the fluids from different women attracted certain sperm more than others and the result showed it does. The research team obtained anonymous egg and sperm samples from couples undergoing IVF at St Mary’s Hospital in Manchester.

‘Follicular fluid from one female was better at attracting sperm from one male, while follicular fluid from another female was better at attracting sperm from a different male,’ said Professor Fitzpatrick.

‘This shows that interactions between human eggs and sperm depend on the specific identity of the women and men involved.’

It seems that even if a woman has chosen a partner to mate with, it’s not a must her egg and his sperm will attract each other according to the study.

According to Professor Fitzpatrick, sperm have only one job which is to fertilise the eggs. So they won’t be choosy about which egg they fertilise.

The study suggests that eggs have evolved and now pick high quality or genetically compatible sperm.

"The idea that eggs are choosing sperm is really novel in human fertility’ said Professor Daniel Brison, the scientific director of the Department of Reproductive Medicine at Saint Mary’s.

‘Research on the way eggs and sperm interact will advance fertility treatments and may eventually help us understand some of the currently ‘unexplained’ causes of infertility in couples.’

PoliticsAbacha’s Son Cries Over Airport Scrutiny by ExAngel007(op): 1:02pm On Jun 10, 2020
Son of former Nigerian military ruler, Sadiq
Abacha, has alleged that even though a travel
ban on the Abachas has been lifted since
during the Yar’adua era, members of the late
General Sani Abacha family were still harassed
whenever they travel in and out of the
country.

“We went to the security agency, they even
gave us a clearance paper. But even before
this lockdown that I travelled to Dubai, I was
still interrogated at the Airport,'” he alleged.

Sadiq spoke in an interview with the BBC
Hausa Service monitored by Vanguard on
Wednesday.

Asked on how the Abacha family felt on
reports of hundreds of millions, allegedly
stashed in foreign vaults by the late military
ruler, Sadiq said the reports were disturbing.

“We hear the report just as others used to
hear. But there are reasons why the money
was kept …there are some politicians.

Definitely, I’m not happy,” he said
On their relationship with the families of other
surviving Nigerian leaders, Sadiq Abacha
explained that apart from the family of
Ibrahim Babangida, and to some extent that
of President Muhammadu Buhari, others had,
allegedly, failed to sustain the relationship.

” We relate well with the Babangida family…, ”
he said.

These revelations came 22 years after the
death of General Abacha.

According to him, “Our present relationship
with some of our late father’s friends is
surprising. We exchange pleasantries with the
family of General Babangida. We are in good
terms.

“It is only with members of the Babangida
family that whenever we meet, we associate
and share stories.

” We also relate well, with family members of
President Muhammadu Buhari. But it’s only
with the Babangida’s that we recall the past.

” When Yayale Ahmed was Secretary of the
Government of the Federation, he helped us
and the travel ban on our family was lifted.”

” But up till date, I’m always interrogated at
the airports anytime I’m travelling. They
always say our names are still in the black
book.

” We’ve been to the security agency and they
have issued us with a clearance paper. That
our names have been removed from the black
book.

” But nothing has changed..I’m always
harassed whenever I’m going out or coming
into the country. I don’t know where to go and
be listened to. It should’ve been a security
agency, but I was there.

” Nothing has changed. Even recently, before
this lockdown, I was interrogated when I
returned from Dubai,” he said.

PoliticsIPOB Is Using Christianity To Wage War Against Nigerian State - Presidency by ExAngel007(op): 6:31am On Jun 08, 2020
The Presidency has accused the Indigenous
People of Biafra of using a false allegation of
persecution of Christians to drive a wedge
between the country and the United States,
United Kingdom and European allies.

A statement issued by the Senior Special
Assistant to the President on Media and
Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, in Abuja, said
available intelligence had shown that IPOB was
using two interconnected campaigns running
concurrently to achieve its aim.

The Presidency, in the statement, said it
wanted to draw the attention of all citizens and
the international community to “a most
misleading campaign” spearheaded by the pro-
secessionist group.

It advised Nigerians and the international
community to ignore the alleged campaign as
they had disregarded similar past campaigns.

The statement fully reads, “The Presidency
wishes to draw the attention of all citizens and
the international community to a most
misleading campaign spearheaded by the so-
called Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) using
false allegations of persecution of Christians
against the Nigerian state.

“A very deep and wide investigation by an
agency of the Nigerian government, working
with international partners, have made us
aware that there are two, interconnected
campaigns being run concurrently by the IPOB
in this regard.

“Both are using the cover of Christianity – and
calling for a US Special Envoy to be appointed
to stop the “genocide” of Christians in Nigeria.

But the real purpose is to drive a wedge
between the Nigeria government and its US and
UK/European allies.

“IPOB leadership of course self-proclaims as
“Jewish,” a position not shared by the generality
of the members. For reasons of convenience,
he claims to have an interest in the welfare of
Christians – but this is a ruse: the case for
independence, the leader believes, is
strengthened by “proving” the government of
Nigeria is “autocratic”, engaged in a “silent
slaughter” of their citizens along religious and
ethnic lines – and that therefore the only viable
option for the unique religious and ethnic
minority is a sovereign Biafra separate from
Nigeria.

“Nigerians and the international community are
advised to be wary of this divisive campaign,
which available evidence shows is being funded
with monthly spending of $85,000 since
October 2019, with no records of the source of
this largesse.

“The campaign consists of producing articles in
the names of the alleged Christian NGOs’
leaders (of campaign groups created at the
time this PR contract with a US lobbying firm
was signed) and letters to and from members
of Congress to the White House.

“Unfortunately, some members of Congress
have been persuaded there is indeed “Christian
persecution” underway in Nigeria – and do so
quoting the campaign – and they are known to
be taking up the case directly with the White
House to appoint the special envoy.

“The American charity secured a meeting with
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and has
made presentations to the US Commission on
International Religious Freedom.

“There is also the UK and European angle of
the Campaign, which is more opaque than its
US sister campaign – given there is a less legal
requirement for public filings – but what is
known of this at the moment is that their
budget is sufficient to hire four PR firms in the
UK, Belgium, France and the US (the latter
additional to the above).

“They have founded an “NGO/Charity” and a
linked web-based campaign named “Stop the
Silent Slaughter” which is well designed and
complete with video “evidence”-completely
concocted.

“Members of the alleged Christian NGO have
had multiple Op-Ed articles in conservative
news websites promulgating their message of a
“Christian Genocide”. Some of those articles
have also been used as “evidence” in the sister
US campaign.

“Two of those conservative news websites were
co-founded by the owner of the UK PR firm
they have hired to generate their publicity as
well as an OP-Ed article in the name of a
British MP who may have been convinced by
their campaign under false pretences. “They
have secured additional coverage in France, EU
and Germany.

“They secured an MPs debate on the “Christian
Genocide” in the House of Commons in which
staff member of the UK PR was referenced as
the “private secretary” to the leader of the UK-
based Charity.

“It is clear from all of the above that the IPOB’s
extraordinarily and dubiously well-funded
campaign in the US and UK/Europe is misusing
the issue of the welfare of Christians purely to
further their political ends, and it seeks to
damage inter-religious dialogue in Nigeria as
well as to damage the international reputation
of Nigeria.

“Nigerians and the international community are
hereby advised to ignore this campaign as they
have disregarded similar past campaigns
originated by this group which has been
designated as a terrorist organisation by the
Nigerian state.

“International groups and societies are welcome
to send representatives to Nigeria and give a lie
to the false claims made by these terrorist
groups who are duping them of their money
and involving them in conduct and activities
disguised to destroy the harmonious
relationships existing between their home
countries and Nigeria.”

An eyewitness who shared the video on social

CrimeNigerian Lady Offered For Sale In Lebanon Refuses To Return Home by ExAngel007(op): 6:11pm On Jun 05, 2020
A Nigerian lady who was offered for sale at $1,000 in Lebanon, Peace Busari, has refused to return to the
country, the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has said.

The Chairman of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, made this disclosure during an interaction with the Lebanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Houssan Diab, said the woman turned down all entreaties to return to Nigeria.

The Lebanese Ambassador had announced Thursday that his country has suspended issuing working visas to Nigerians seeking to work in Lebanon, particularly for domestic work.

Busari, 31 refused to heed the plea by her home state, Oyo to return home, saying she had secured another job and would prefer staying back in Lebanon.

Dabiri-Erewa said: “As for the young Nigerian lady that we were able to save, who was advertised for $1,000,
the Ambassador has told us that the culprit is actually a resident in Lebanon. However, the lady is still with the mission. In fact, she has got another job. But the reality is that she said she does not want to come back
and she said she has found another job.

“I spoke to her myself on the phone and I told her that if she gets into any trouble, there will be nobody to call.
But she said she does not want to come back, that she has found another job.

“Even the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Oyo State, where she is from, spoke to her. We just
hope that Nigerians going to work in Lebanon will be properly treated and not treated as slaves.

“As the ambassador said, the issue of work permit will be properly looked into. Agents are there collecting and making money and not seeing to the welfare of these people who are going to work.”

The Lebanese Ambassador said so far, the Lebanese government in collaboration with the Lebanese
community in Nigeria had brought back 69 out of 79 Nigerians allegedly stranded back to the country.

He explained that the remaining 10 Nigerians, who would be transported home soon after the COVID-19
lockdown, have some pending legal cases and would be repatriated home once they are through with their cases.

He clarified that the Embassy and the Lebanese community paid over $150,000 USD to evacuate the 69
Nigerians and also paid for their 14 days quarantine, Diab added that they were not in Lebanon illegally but were abused by their employers who also breached the working agreement and did not have money to bring them back.
