A 21-year-old meat seller has been arrested for allegedly raping an 8-year-old girl in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Yakubu Diko has been remanded in prison after he was accused of tricking the young girl into his home before raping her about three weeks ago. Abiodun Essiet, a Special Adviser to the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area council (AMAC), said Diko approached the playground where the girl was with her peers and chased everyone except the little girl, The ICIR reports. He beckoned to the girl, pretending he wanted to send her on an errand. When she followed him into the house, Diko allegedly squeezed a towel in the girl’s mouth, held her down and sexually abused her. He then warned her not to tell anyone what had happened. However, on the third day after the incident, the victim started bleeding while trying to urinate and the pain made her cry. It was then that her parents became aware that she had been raped. The parents reported the case to the community chief, who then spoke to Essiet and sought her guidance in handling the rape case. Essiet advised the chief to report the case to the Karimo Sabo station after the girl was examined in a clinic and confirmed to have been sexually abused. In the medical report sighted by The ICIR , the young girl’s clinical report read that her labia minora was swollen with her hymen broken, indicating forced penetration. Dikko was arrested and locked him up in a cell. However, after spending two weeks in the cell, the parents of the suspect pleaded with the girl’s parents to have him released, saying they were ready to settle out of court. The girl’s family agreed and requested that the man be released. On getting to the police station, they were referred back to Essiet, who acting as a representative of the social welfare unit of AMAC, warned that anyone who tried to frustrate the case would be arrested for obstructing justice. The suspect, therefore, has been relocated to the Force's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further prosecution, Essiet said. https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2020/4/21-year-old-meat-seller-arrested-for-allegedly-raping-an-8-year-old-girl-in-abuja-2.html

The government of the United States has
suspended its funding of the World Health
Organisation. President Donald Trump told journalists on Tuesday that the organisation “failed in its basic duty”. “Today I am directing my administration to halt funding while a review is conducted to assess the World Health Organization’s role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus,” he said during a White House press briefing. “American taxpayers provide between $400 million and $500 million per year to the WHO and in contrast, China contributes $40 million a year or even less. “As the organisation’s leading sponsor, the United States has a duty to insist on full accountability. One of the most dangerous and costly decisions from the WHO was its disastrous decision to oppose travel restrictions from China and other nations. “The WHO failed in its basic duty and must be held accountable. “Had the WHO done its job to get medical experts into China to objectively assess the situation on the ground and to call out China’s lack of transparency, the outbreak could have been contained at its source with very little death,” he told reporters. “This would have saved thousands of lives and avoided worldwide economic damage. Instead, the WHO willingly took China’s assurances to face value… and defended the actions of the Chinese government. “With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have deep concerns whether America’s generosity has been put to the best use possible.” It is not clear if Trump can unilaterally withhold contributions to the WHO. The US president has been criticised for the nation’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak and some governors have disagreed with his plans to reopen the economy. In a January 24 tweet, Trump had commended the Chinese government for its transparency and efforts to contain the virus. https://mobile.twitter.com/Reuters/status/1250311294407725057/photo/1 |

Residents of Jeppes Reef near the Matsamo border with Swaziland last Sunday gathered to kill and eat a baboon which was found wandering on the streets during lockdown. When pictures of the slaughter emerged on social media, it prompted Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security & liaison Gabisile Shabalala to warn the community that they were breaking the lockdown regulations as well as the law. “This now wrong; as the department we condemn the behaviour of some communities [together] with the one in Nkomazi [municipality] where people decided to kill an animal in large numbers," Shabalala said. "We are warning against such gatherings because that is against the lockdown regulations [about] where people should now gather, as we are trying to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. Again, it’s criminal to even kill an animal just because they have seen it in the community. It is deeply regrettable that our people would still gather in such a manner. We are appealing [to them] to work with us and stay at home during this difficult phase. To save the public, the police should act against such behaviour,” Shabalala added. One community member who didn’t want to be named told Sowetan that they initially thought the baboon was from a certain house. “People came in large numbers and we were told that it [the baboon] was from a person whom was suspected to be casting spells using it. But some people decided to burn and eat it because they said that was meat,” said the community member. https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2020/4/covid-19-lockdown-residents-kill-eat-baboon-in-south-africa-photos.html

Doctors have warned that the deadly coronavirus could be spreading through farts. However, humans may be safe as farts are unlikely to transmit the virus provided pants are worn, a report by DailyStar has revealed. Tests carried out have shown that the virus was present in the faeces of more than half of patients with COVID-19. They said more research needed to be done to rule out passing the disease on to people through omitting bodily gasses. A doctor that raised the issue on social media, highlighted work by Australian doctor Andy Tagg which he called “an enjoyable thread about whether farting can cause coronavirus”. In his findings, Tagg cited tests carried out earlier this year which showed 55 percent of patients with SARS-CoV-2 had it present in their poo. “Well, SARS-CoV-2 can be detected in faeces and has been detected in an asymptomatic individual up to 17 days post-exposure.” The doctor added that previous tests have shown farts have the power to spray talcolm powder long distances. It was warned, however, that if the infected patient was not wearing pants, and they released a large amount of gas, then someone else – if they took a close sniff at the gas – could be at risk. “Perhaps SARS-CoV-2 can be spread through the power of parping – we need more evidence. “So remember to wear appropriate PPE at all times and stay safe!” https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/coronavirus-can-spread-through-farts-21852204

fake pastor |
In Nigeria, to infract the law and escape retribution be a cleric or a politician under the sanctuary of the government of the day. Pastors and imams emanate and fecundate fake news and hate speech without scruples because of some seeming ‘’self-immunity’’ effectuated by the sensitivity of religion here. Clerics in the country defy the law unabashedly and with unrestrained arrogance. And when there is an attempt to hold them to account the refrain becomes ‘’our religion is under attack’’ by unbelievers. On March 22, 2020, David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church, better known as ‘’Winners’ Chapel’’, held services against the advisory and restriction on religious gathering by the Ogun state government. This was at the time the figure of COVID-19 cases in the country was creeping. The police were said to have advised the bishop not to proceed with the religious activities, but he ignored them and persisted in his insouciance against lawful authority. Oyedepo even bragged at the service: “Shutting down churches would be like shutting down hospitals. There are many, many places that would never have any medical solution but in church.’’ Also, at the weekend, a televised falsehood by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome rippled on social media channels. The pastor claimed coronavirus is illusory; that it is a grand conspiracy of the bastions of a ‘’New World Order’’, and that it is spawned by 5G – fifth generation mobile technology. Hear him: “Don’t think what is happening right now has to do with a virus. It’s not a virus. The world has chosen to be deceived. As they have been deceived many times before. ‘’If you still don’t yet know what is going on, know today; it’s not about the coronavirus. This is basically a group of people serving a devilish cause trying to checkmate humanity to hell. Don’t be ignorant, neither silent. This isn’t a time to sit on the fence because there is no fence. This isn’t about religion because as you can see, there isn’t one either. It boils down to two options: Life or Death.’’ The pastor dug the pits of ignorance deeper and cited a movie ‘Divergent’ to buttress his claim. ‘’There’s a movie called ‘Divergent’ from 2014. That’s what the groups that are interested in the new world order are up to, to put vaccine in your body containing a digital ID, by which you as a human being can be controlled, you cease to be yourself,” he said. Not yet done, he re-affirmed himself in another televised show of dopiness. He claimed the federal government locked down Abuja, Lagos and Ogun to install 5G, icing the misinformation with fiction that 5G technology killed people in Wuhan, China, not coronavirus. “The federal government was pushed to lock down Abuja and Lagos specifically. Why? Because of 5G in Abuja and Lagos. Because they already tested 5G in Abuja and they’re digging in Lagos,’’ he claimed. “They’re engaged in the draining in Lagos. That is why the federal government had to shut down Abuja and Lagos so that the 5G could be installed. And there are other cities planned for. “As I said before, what kills people in Wuhan was not coronavirus. It was the 5G. If you say it’s not, then tell us how you discovered yours.” This fish story by Oyakhilome catalysed and even diffused through educated membranes like native perfume. The implication of which is a strain on the fight against COVID-19 in the country. Since the famous cleric said 5G technology is responsible for coronavirus why should those taken in by this fable take the necessary precautions against the disease? The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) dispelled the inveracity –though I do not think it is enough until Oyakhilome is arrested and made to face the mortalities of his crime of spreading injurious misinformation. To clear the fouled air, the NCC said: ‘’There is no correlation between 5G Technology and COVID-19. 5G is an advancement on today’s 4G technology, designed to transform the world positively. 5G is a fifth generation of mobile technology which is an improvement on today’s 4G technology with enhanced capabilities. The 5G technology provides the platform for new and emerging technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data to improve the way we live and work.’’ The commission also explained in a ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ column that: ‘’5G technology will transform the world by connecting everything with everybody. It will create millions of jobs, it will add billions of dollars to the economy (GDP), and can solve some of our problems such as insecurity and improve governance and efficiency in the society.’’ On whether the radiation from 5G is different from those of 2G, 3G and 4G? It said: ‘’No, they all belong to the same class of Non-ionizing Radiation.’’ Really, we live in a country where ordinary citizens are harassed and hounded into prison for ventilating their opinions under a highly contentious law – Cybercrime Act. Journalists and bloggers have been the biggest casualties of this law. Why is Oyakhilome not being charged under this same law for misinformation? Is he above the law? As a matter of fact, what Oyakhilome has done has the propensity of rolling back the gains made in the fight against COVID-19 and also of derailing efforts at containing the spread of the disease. Also, I think what he has done can be termed a terrorist act for its capability of leading citizens astray to mass death and certain doom. He should be held to account. If he escapes the law on this, then the government has no moral authority to arrest any Nigerian who spreads fake news. Ini Ekpenyong 2019 World Para Powerlifting Invitational Championship Silver Medalist Ini Ekpenyong has been reported dead, according to Vanguard. The 46-year old died after a very brief illness. According to his wife Anuli Ekpenyong, the silver medalist who lifted 107kg in the World Para Powerlifting World Cup in 2019 died since November 1, 2019 in his house in Ikorodu and was yet to be buried. How could an athlete who represented Nigeria last year in a World championship die unsung? Ekpenyong’s widow explained that he was only sick for three days. “He was sick for only three days. He complained of headache which he also said was disturbing his eyeballs and his back. He said it felt like his eyes wanted to come out from its sockets, so we took him to a hospital on Monday in Ikorodu town because that’s where we live. “We stayed in the hospital for three days and on the fourth day which was a Thursday, the doctor said we should take him home because they said it was not what could be handled in the hospital. His blood pressure was too high. “We left and I carried him to a church on Thursday. The church belonged to one Calabar man. The pastor said that we should take him home and that they will come on Friday to do an all night vigil for him. So I took him home. Even that night, one of his friends called Niyi came with one man to ‘work’ for him. Niyi is his best friend and also a powerlifter. When the man finished, he left . “Around 7 or 8 o’clock, my husband who was talking well before then suddenly started breathing abnormally. I ran outside and called people to come and help me. People came and held him and before I knew what was happening, he gave up o”. I asked Mrs Ekpenyong about the family members of his husband. “His sisters came to my house and said they want to go and see their brother in the mortuary. They collected the death certificate from the man who helped me to take my husband to the morgue . After seeing him, the sisters said they want to carry his body to the village so they took him home. “Before then, they became quarrelsome. We are in good terms but I was surprised when they came and started asking for some of my husband’s documents. They were asking many questions. Where is the file? Where are his documents? Whether my husband bought land? I told them that I don’t know anything. I went inside and carried a file my husband kept and gave them. They went through it and said this was not the file they wanted . They asked me how many accounts my husband opened? I got angry and asked them if this was the questions they should be asking me at this time of grief. When my husband was sick, I called his sisters. None of them came. When he died and his body was in the house, I called them and none of them came. Now they came on Sunday and started asking for his property. I said madam, I don’t know anything o! “That day, Coach Agbor was there and he told me not to say anything. Ijeoma was also there. She was the one who asked them why they were oppressing the poor widow with these young children. Instead of consoling her, you people are fighting for property even when the body is just one day old in the mortuary. “I don’t really understand! I don’t know if this is how they do in their place? Anyway, when they wanted to carry the corpse to the village, they said I must follow them to go to the village and stay there. It was that coach who asked them if they’ll feed me and my children in the village. I went to the village with them. “My family now said no that they can’t leave me in the village when they’re not yet ready to bury my husband and moreover, my children are just 7 and 4 years old. I came back to Lagos. It’s only his brother who calls me but the five sisters…. hmmm.”. I asked Ekpenyong’s widow if there was any property of her husband that the sisters were after. “For where? Nothing! He left nothing instead we are in debt… in short… (she breaks down and started sobbing) “ Only God knows how we are going to survive. I want to beg the government to help me to take care of my children. I don’t want them to stop school. Their dad said before his death that the first daughter will be a doctor, the second a lawyer and the third, an engineer. Let it come to pass. “Before he died, he told me to look after the children. That I should make sure that there is unity and love among his children. He wanted his children to be educated. Now I’ll look for something to do to make sure they go to school . My children are my problem now”. In an emotion laden voice, Mrs Ekpenyong said she will miss her husband sorely. “My husband was a nice man. Very nice and he had no problem with anyone. If you offend him, he will shout but it will end there. He bears no grudges. He was bold and if you did anything wrong, he will tell you. He was a very good man. “I will remember him for everything….Everything… ( she starts to sob again and her voice peaks) Everything…ah! He was there for me. He never allowed me to lack anything. He loved me and never let me cry. He only wanted to make me happy…(sobbing). Ini Ekpenyong met his wife Anuli who hails from Isele Uku in Delta state at a friend’s wedding in 2008 and got married. It was Coach Feyisetan Are who broke this news to me while we chatted on phone about the late Olympic Gold medalist, Ndidi Nwosu who died on March 1, 2020 “We even lost another Para Powerlifter…” Are said on phone. He gave me the wife’s phone number and I quickly put a call through to her. Are, a well known para Powerlifting coach told me that not much was known about Ekpenyong who was just beginning to come to limelight. “He was just an upcoming athlete, though he started powerlifting in 1996. He represented Delta state at the National Sports festival and they employed him. “Before then, he was a Lagos athlete and I trained him. He was a very very good athlete. The only problem he had was that Nigeria doesn’t go to international Para Powerlifting competitions with heavyweights because, internationally, the heavyweights push almost 290kg to 300kg while here, we lift just 200kg. The heaviest Ini lifted was 170kg during the last World Para Powerlifting Championship held in Abuja. That’s why he wasn’t able to represent the country, coupled with age and other factors. “The problem is that most of them will not come out to say they’re sick because they don’t want to be dropped from any competition. Some too don’t have money to go to a good hospital so they stay at home. “ Areh prayed the Delta state government to help the children of the late athlete to get educated at the university level, provide a one or two bedroom apartment for the family and give the wife employment in Delta state. Until his death, Ini Ekpenyong worked at the Delta State Sports Commission. He was employed by the state after competing for the state in the National Sports Festival in Abuja. His wife confirmed that Ini Ekpenyong will be buried on April 24, 2020 in his home town in Itu local government area of Akwa Ibom state. He left behind a wife and three children. He was 46. https://www.tori.ng/news/144264/death-strikes-again-as-another-nigerian-para-power.html

An Indian couple have reportedly named their newborn twins ‘Corona’ and ‘Covid’ despite the havoc caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. The two words, ‘Corona’ and ‘Covid’ were derived from the Coronavirus (COVID-19), a deadly disease that broke out from Wuhan in China. The couple from Chhattisgarh who welcomed the twins during the ongoing coronavirus- enforced nationwide lockdown decided to name them ‘Corona’ and ‘Covid’ because the kids symbolise triumph over hardships. According to the couple, the names would remind them about all the hardships they conquered amid the lockdown. “ I was blessed with the twins, a boy and a girl, in the early hours on March 27. We have named them Covid (boy) and Corona (girl) for now,” Preeti Verma, the 27-old mother of the newborns, said: “The delivery happened after facing several difficulties and therefore, me and my husband wanted to make the day memorable. “Indeed the virus is dangerous and life- threatening but its outbreak made people focus on sanitation, hygiene and inculcate other good habits. Thus, we thought about these names,” she said, giving reasons for their unusual decision. “When the hospital staff also started calling the babies as Corona and Covid, we finally decided to name them after the pandemic,” she said. Speaking on the challenges she and her husband faced before she welcomed her twin children, Verma said: “On late night of March 26, I suddenly experienced severe labour pain and somehow my husband arranged an ambulance operated under 102 Mahtari Express service. “As no vehicular movement was allowed on roads due to the lockdown, we were stopped by police at various places but they let us go after noticing my condition,” Ms.Verma said. “I was wondering what would happen in the hospital as it was midnight, but fortunately doctors and other staff were very cooperative,” she said. “Our relatives, who wanted to reach the hospital, could not make it as bus and train services were stopped due to the lockdown,” said Verma, who already has a two-year-old daughter. Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the hospital, Shubhra Singh said, the mother and the newborns were discharged recently and they were in good health. Within 45 minutes of their arrival, the delivery was done successfully,” the PRO said. https://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2020/04/03/just-in-indian-couple-names-twin-babies-corona-and-covid/

A man infected with COVID-19 spat in another man's face as they waited to board a train in Thailand. The coronavirus-stricken man later dropped dead. Surveillance video shows the incident which took place on a train platform in Bangkok. In the video, the Coronavirus patient is seen walking up to another man in line to buy tickets. He then spits on his face. The sick man, 56-year-old Anan Sahoh, eventually dropped dead in front of an onboard toilet while on a train headed to Narathiwat, according to Metro UK, and medical personnel performed a coronavirus test that came back positive for COVID-19. Fellow passengers say he was coughing and vomiting on the train even though he reportedly passed a mandatory temperature check in order to board the train. Now, authorities in Thailand are on the hunt for the man who was spat on, but so far he remains on the loose. The director of Thailand’s State Railway, Thakoon Intrachom, said: "We are now worried about a man that was spat at in the security camera footage. Initially, we coordinated with the railway police but they have not found him yet." "We want to announce that if anyone knows him or if he has heard about the news, then he should please go to the hospital immediately." Medics said that Anan Sahoh had recently returned from Pakistan and passed through the country’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. He had a "fit to fly" health certificate and was not detected by thermal scans or temperature checks at the airport. Anan then boarded the train and temperature checks at the station reportedly showed a normal temperature of 36C. However, the man developed a cough and vomited during the journey, during which train staff took a picture of him and his ID card. But his condition had improved by the time the train reached Hua Hin railway station. Officials checked his temperature again and it still measured 36C. They advised the.passenger to take a rest at Hua Hin station, but he insisted on continuing his journey. At about 10.15pm, train staff found the passenger collapsed in front of a toilet when the train reached Prachuap Khiri Khan’s Thap Sakae district. Medics performed tests on his body which.returned positive for Covid-19. He also had diabetes. It’s believed 15 passengers were on board the same carriage as Anan. Officials said they quarantined 11 people, including two rail staff from Bang Sue station, a security guard, seven railway workers and a railway police officer. Following Anan's death, the carriage was disinfected while the other passengers were ordered to quarantine for 14 days Below is a video showing the moment Anan spat on another passenger. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXrHI5C479c https://metro.co.uk/2020/04/02/man-coronavirus-spits-passenger-collapsing-dead-train-12497286/
