The defence headquarters on Tuesday dissociated the armed forces of Nigeria from the circulation of document, calling for the overthrow of the democratically elected government led by President Muhammadu Buhari. In a statement issued by Muhammed Wabi, deputy director of defence information, the DHQ accused a group, “Nigerian Continuity and Progress’’ as being behind the document. Wabi alleged that the document called for the setting up of an “interim government’’ in place of the elected government. “The Armed Forces of Nigeria wishes to dissociate itself from the rascality and intentions as espoused in a document being circulated by a faceless group named Nigerian Continuity and Progress calling for support of a revolution to oust the current democratically elected government and in its place establish an illegitimate interim government,” the statement read. “The AFN outrightly condemns the undemocratic and demonic actions of the author of the document. “Accordingly, members of the public are enjoined to discountenance the content of the documents being circulated by NCP and equally condemned in totality, the call to derail our hard-earned democracy.” It said the armed forces was “very mindful of its constitutional responsibilities’’ and would not be misled into any act that would undermine democracy as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution as amended. “The AFN remains unflinchingly loyal to the Constitution, as well as President Muhammadu Buhari and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he said. Wabi said all relevant law enforcement agencies had been advised to unravel those behind the “seditious” document for appropriate actions. https://www.thecable.ng/military-we-are-not-planning-to-overthrow-buhari |

WhatsApp has asked users to upgrade to the latest version of its popular messaging app following a report that users could be vulnerable to having malicious spyware installed on phones without their knowledge. Financial Times had reported the vulnerability in WhatsApp, saying it could allow attackers inject spyware on phones by ringing up targets using the app’s phone call function. It said the spyware was developed by Israeli cyber surveillance company NSO Group. “WhatsApp encourages people to upgrade to the latest version of our app, as well as keep their mobile operating system up to date,” a spokesman of the platform said. “The upgrade will protect app against potential targeted exploits designed to compromise information stored on mobile devices. “We are constantly working alongside industry partners to provide the latest security enhancements to help protect our users.” Asked about the report, NSO said its technology was licensed to authorise government agencies “for the sole purpose of fighting crime and terror,” and that it does not operate the system itself. “We investigate any credible allegations of misuse and if necessary, we take action, including shutting down the system,” the company said. “Under no circumstances would NSO be involved in the operating or identifying of targets of its technology, which is solely operated by intelligence and law enforcement agencies. “NSO would not or could not use its technology in its own right to target any person or organisation, including this individual.” https://www.thecable.ng/whatsapp-asks-users-to-upgrade-app-after-report-of-spyware-attack |

A music video director has explained what controversial singer, Naira Marley was trying to say with his song 'Am I A Yahoo Boy?'. https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2019/may/10/TG.JPG TG Omori Naira Marley, an artiste taken in for questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), tried to explain that he is not an internet fraudster with his latest video, his videographer has explained. TG Omori, the 24-year-old who directed the video, made this known in a statement received by TheCable Lifestyle on Friday. In his recently released ‘Am I a Yahoo Boy’ video, Naira Marley was seen bound with handcuffs in a police van. The street-hop star was arrested on Friday morning. Speaking on how he was approached for the job, Omori said: “I woke up to a DM from Naira Marley four days before the video shoot asking “AM I A YAHOO BOY? Lol”. I replied with a laughing emoji and he asked for my WhatsApp contact. Then he sent the song asking for a video direction. “Considering the controversy behind the song and all, It wasn’t really so crazy to crack out an idea for it because basically, all the song was talking about is him trying to clear the air that he is not a fraudster.” TG Omori, who hails from Cross-River state, says the video was shot in three days and he had to improvise to get it done. “I thought of getting a police truck but considering the short notice I had to film this which was between three days, I was only left with an option of hiring a bullion van and brand it to look like a police armoured tank. I had to build a car wash set and tagged it ‘No Mannaz’ and we shot it on a Sunday. “We shot the video in six hours featuring from Zlatan Ibile and special appearances from his friends and fans. The whole idea behind the video was to give a visual representation that my client is just trying to clear the air that he is not a fraudster.” TG Omori, who says he is inspired by Tunde Kelani, a filmmaker, graduated from Pencil Film Institute at 18, making him the youngest professional filmmaker in Nigeria at the time. Commenting on Pretty Mike’s allegation that some of his colleagues offer video vixens roles for sex, he said “video directors are humans like everybody else and their individual sexual conduct depends on them. “Because one director is asking you for sex for roles doesn’t mean all other directors do that. If I was the one on that table, I will probably sue Pretty Mike but thank God I have a different drive about what I want to be known for”. In December 2018, Trace Naija described TG Omori as the future of music video directing in Nigeria. https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/naira-marley-fraudster-yahoo-boy-video-director/ |

Members of the Kano State House of Assembly today passed a bill for the creation of four additional first class Emirates. The additional first class Emirates include Rano, Gaya, Karaya and Bichi Emirates. In a motion presented by the Majority Leader Baffa Babba, the House unanimously agreed that creation of more Emirates will assist in job creation, dispute, and community conflict resolutions among others. The passage of this bill paves way for the decentralisation of the Kano Emirate council thereby decentralising the power of Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II who is currently at loggerheads with the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.. Although the state governor is yet to assent the bill, it is expected that the bill will be presented to him for approval. https://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2019/05/08/kano-assembly-clips-emir-sanusis-wings-creates-4-new-emirates/ https://i2.wp.com/www.pmnewsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Emir-Muhammad-Sanusi-II1.jpg

According to him, Kumchacha knows nothing about the topic that was why he passed such statement when asked to share his view on the topic. https://www.ghpage.com/jesus-smiles-mention-name-sex-counselor-lutterodt/86892/ |
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has delisted 76 computer-based test (CBT) centres over various infractions during the unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME) which held between April 11 and April 18. Is-haq Oloyede, JAMB registrar, made this known while speaking at the 23rd annual seminar of the Nigerian Academy of Education in Abuja. He did not give details of the affected centres. Oloyode added that the board has appointed a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) to prosecute over 100 candidates placed in various police cells across the country for alleged examination malpractice. He narrated how closed circuit television cameras exposed some of the candidates who cheated during the exam. Oloyede described a form of malpractice caught on camera as “malpractices by substitution”, narrating how professional writers hid in toilets and later replaced the UTME candidates who pretended they went to the toilet to ease themselves. “Today, we have no fewer than 100 in police cells across the country who were caught for examination malpractices,” he said. “I have appointed a senior advocate of Nigeria who is a former solicitor-general to help me oversee all these so that the suspects can be brought to book. My director of legal matters asked me, ‘what offences should we charge these people for; for multiple registration?’ “And I said, why can’t we go to the Examination Malpractice Act? So, my problem has started by having to draft the charges, despite the fact that we have evidence against them. “We see a lot. But we have problems. If I were to be punishing every member of staff of JAMB that is committing infractions, I will not focus on the assignment. I will be going from one disciplinary committee to the other and my attention will be diverted.” https://www.thecable.ng/we-delisted-76-exam-centres-says-jamb |
A Boeing jetliner with 143 people aboard from the US outpost at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, slid off a runway into a shallow river in Jacksonville, Florida, on Friday while attempting to land at a military base there during a thunderstorm, injuring 21 people. According to NDTV, there were no reports of fatalities or critical injuries, with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office saying on Twitter that all 21 of the injured were taken to a hospital where they were listed in good condition. The plane, a chartered Boeing 737-800 arrived from Naval Station Guantanamo Bay in Cuba with 136 passengers and seven crew members, but it crashed into the St Johns river at the end of the runway at Naval Air Station Jacksonville at about 9:40 pm local time, a spokesman for the Florida air base said. "The plane was not submerged. Every person is alive and accounted for," the sheriff's office said on Twitter. The sheriff's tweet was accompanied by two photographs showing the plane, bearing the logo of Miami Air International, resting in shallow water and fully intact. The head of Boeing used his first shareholder meeting after the fleet of 737 MAX was grounded to try to assure shareholders, airline passengers, and the media that the plane is safe. "No fatalities reported. We are all in this together," Curry said in a separate tweet. A passenger on board the plane, attorney Cheryl Bormann, told CNN in an interview that the flight, which had been four hours late in departing, made a "really hard landing" in Jacksonville amid thunder and lightning. "We came down, the plane literally hit the ground and bounced. It was clear the pilot did not have total control of the plane. It bounced again," she said, adding that the experience was "terrifying." Bormann said she hit her head on a plastic tray on the seat in front of her as the plane veered sideways and off the runway. "We were in the water, we couldn't tell where we were, whether it was a river or an ocean." The military base is situated on the western bank of the St Johns River about 8 miles south of central Jacksonville, in the northeastern corner of Florida about 350 miles north of Miami. Bormann described emerging from the plane onto the wing as oxygen masks deployed and smelling the jet fuel that she said was apparently leaking into the water. Bormann, from Chicago, said that most of the passengers were connected to the military and helped each other out of their seats and onto a wing, where they were assisted after some time into a raft. Miami Air International is a charter airline operating a fleet of the Boeing 737-800, different from the 737 MAX 8 aircraft that has been groundedt following two fatal crashes involving that plane. A Boeing spokesman said that the company was aware of the incident and was gathering information. https://www.euronews.com/2019/05/04/boeing-737-skids-off-runaway-into-florida-river https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HLQQBSLdtQ

A 26-year-old hairdresser, Kenile Nwabuzor, has reportedly committed suicide after her boyfriend identified as David, called off their two year relationship on April 11th. Punch reports that David in an inteview, said he met Kenile shortly after her mother's death and that they had a rocky relationship as she felt inferior to him because she was a secondary school leaver. On April 11th after they called off their relationship, Kenile reportedly sent him a text lamenting he had made life miserable for her and that she would soon kill herself. “She was my girlfriend and I loved her so much. We started dating each other about two years ago. She was not that literate, but I told her it didn’t matter. When we met, she was in distress. Her mother just died then and she was living alone. She said she could not live without her mother. Her brothers are based in Ghana, but they usually sent her money. “She told me she finished secondary school, but I don’t think so. I really wanted to help her improve on her education. She easily got angry and if she had a disagreement with someone, she might not talk to that person again for years. As our relationship continued, I tried to correct her. I persuaded her to be going to church and bought a Bible for her. We usually had disagreements over petty issues. “If we had a misunderstanding, I could be in her house for hours begging her and she would not say anything. If I decided to go, that would be another fight. At times, the misunderstanding would last for days. Because of the nature of my job, I have girls around me. She would be complaining that I was going out with them. I tried to tell her that she needed to trust me. I also saw boys around her because she was beautiful, yet I trusted her. Recently, she said I didn’t love her again. She changed her phone’s password to deny me access to her phone. She accused me of sleeping with women. It was true many ladies wanted me to ask them out, but I ignored them” he said David explained that four days before she killed herslef, she had missed Nwabuzor’s calls while on an assignment at an event. He said he got back home late that day and returned her calls, but she did not pick them. When he eventually got through to her the next day, she started insulting him and he ended the call. “She sent me text messages, but I didn’t reply. On Tuesday, I went to her house to return the charger she lent me and when I was about to leave, she returned all the things I had bought for her. That night, she sent a text message to me, saying that I had stopped loving her since December 2018 when we had fun at different places. She said she was no longer interested in the relationship. In my reply, I told her she was free to find her peace anywhere else. On Wednesday morning, I thought about everything again. I knew she was depressed and I had been the person encouraging her. I sent her another message, begging her. Most times, she would be the one to say she was not interested in the relationship, yet she would be crying. I was always the one saying sorry. “That Thursday, she came to our house for the first time and met with my parents. That was the day my father knew her as my girlfriend. She reported me to him and said she was no longer interested in the relationship. My father sought my opinion and I said I didn’t have any comment. “She started crying. She called one of her brothers and told him she was coming to Ghana. My father is a clergyman. He tried to counsel her. As my father was talking to her, she was crying. At a point, she stood up and left. Afterwards, I left for my workplace.” David said he later sent a text message to him, saying “You want to kill me; I will help you kill myself. Thank you for making my life a hell.” He said immediately after he read the message, he took a motorcycle and headed to her house. “On getting there, I peeped from her window and saw her body dangling on a rope tied to the ceiling. I shouted and barged into her room. Her neighbours helped me loose the rope while I brought her down. She was already heavy, but I was not feeling the weight. I was not in my right senses again. I took her on a motorcycle to a nearby hospital. She was referred to Randle General Hospital. A doctor confirmed her dead on arrival. I called her brother and relations. The police arrested me and detained me for two days. They said I should not have brought her down,” he said Kenile was buried on Saturday, April 13 which was David’s 26th birthday. Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, said the police had received a distress call from the general hospital that one Kenile Nwabuzor was brought in dead by her boyfriend. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the lady had earlier sent a text message to her boyfriend that she would kill herself. Her corpse was removed and deposited in the Lagos Mainland Hospital morgue.” Bala said https://punchng.com/lagos-hairdresser-commits-suicide-over-disagreements-with-boyfriend/

Anybody can fall victim to an online scam. We all lead busy lives and we are continually bombarded with “approaches” from scammers – it only takes a moment of inattention to fall into a trap, according to www.thebalance.com. How can you stay safe, when thieves are becoming increasingly sophisticated and convincing? The best thing to do is to pause before sending money and investigate where it is really going. Knowing about common warning signs of money scams can help you spot trouble before it is too late. If you see any of the red flags listed below, proceed with extreme caution. They don’t necessarily mean you are dealing with a scammer, but it is worth slowing down before you part with your money. Here are the common signs of money scams. Wiring money If somebody asks you to wire money, be careful. There is no way to reverse a wire transfer – once the money leaves your account, it is gone, and you can’t ask the bank to “undo” the transfer. Thieves love wire transfers because the money is available for withdrawal almost immediately (before everybody figures out what they are up to). There are a few legitimate situations where wire transfers make sense, but they are a bad idea if you are not sure who you are dealing with. Using your credit card to send the wire only makes things worse. Unsolicited approaches for money It is not uncommon to get an email promising vast sums of money (or even a few bucks) for little or no effort. Sometimes these messages look like they were sent to you accidentally – and you have somehow had the good luck to stumble into a fantastic situation. If something sounds too good to be true and it is coming from somebody you don’t know, it is almost certainly a scam. Why would that imprisoned prince search you out and contact you? If somebody has a great “business opportunity,” why don’t they just do it themselves instead of wasting time and money scouring the Internet for more investors? Selling for anything besides cash If you are selling something that you have advertised online, be wary of accepting anything but cash as payment. Scammers have various ways to cheat you out of money (when you’re supposed to be the one collecting money). For example, they would try the classic cashier’s cheque scam or they would ask for your bank account information under the pretext of sending an electronic payment or wire transfer (then they would use that information to get into your bank account). If a buyer can’t show up in-person with cash, there is probably a better buyer out there. Handling payments for someone else There is no legitimate reason for you to handle payments for somebody else. If you are asked to deposit money into your account and forward it to somebody else, you are likely involved in a scam. When you are looking for work and these “jobs” come up, it is hard to pass up the opportunity, but moving on is your best bet. At best, you are being set up for a scam; at worst, you are involved with something illegal (such as money laundering). Threats and hyperbole Scammers’ goal is to exploit your hopes and fears until you hand over your cash. To take advantage of your fears, they might tell you that you would go to jail, lose your job, or somehow face humiliation if you fail to make “required” payments (none of which they can accomplish legally). If something sounds all bad or all good, you’re not hearing the truth. Unsecured sites Look for the lock (or “https” in the address bar) when doing anything sensitive online. If you provide personal or financial information to an unsecure site, it can be stolen easily – in fact, it probably is being stolen because you’re already at an impostor’s site. Any reputable bank, credit union, or online shopping site will require a secure connection. If your connection is not secure, you might be caught in a so-called “man in the middle” attack, in which your usernames and passwords are collected for later use. Emails that look not quite right Sometimes you can find everything you need to know in an email. If you notice bad spelling and grammar, you might be dealing with an overseas phishing scam (a type of fraud where a user’s personal data, such as passwords and credit card info, is stolen through an electronic communication like email). It also helps to look closely at any links (when you hover your mouse over them before clicking). Do they go where you think they should go? How to handle online scams If you see any of the warning signs above – but you still want to move forward – how can you do so safely? Get more information. Research the person or business in question until you are 100 per cent certain that you’re not getting ripped off. Just remember that scammers can be very convincing and very patient – they would talk with you for hours (over many weeks or months) to make you feel comfortable. Talk about the situation with a friend or relative, and look for similar stories online – you might be surprised at what you find. Check message boards in your community if it seems like a local thing, but keep in mind that many internet money scams are tried-and-true hustles, sometimes conducted from far away (so you’re likely to find good information with a general internet search). https://punchng.com/warning-signs-of-money-scams-you-should-know/
