The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress has suspended the Minister of Nigeria Delta Affairs from the party. The NWC also suspended the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu. PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported how the NWC suspended two sitting governors, Rochas Okorocha of Imo and Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun. All the four people suspended are diehard supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari but have worked at cross purposes with their party in state elections. The NWC announced the suspension on Friday after its meeting in Abuja. “The NWC has also taken a decision to recommend the expulsion of the suspended individuals to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party,” the party’s spokesperson, Lanre Isa-Onilu said in a statement. BELOW IS THE FULL TEXT OF THE STATEMENT Anti-Party: APC NWC Suspends Amosun, Okorocha, Usani, Okechukwu The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended the Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun and the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for anti-party activities. Also suspended by the APC NWC over anti-party activities are the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani and the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr. Osita Okechukwu. This decision was reached on Friday at a meeting of the Party’s NWC, presided by the National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole at the APC National Secretariat. The NWC has also taken a decision to recommend the expulsion of the suspended individuals to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party. The NWC would also issue a query to the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu over his glaring anti-party activities, which greatly affected the fortunes of our candidates in the recently-conducted Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state. Recall that the NWC had earlier written to the suspended governors on their anti-party activities, and several other steps were taken to ensure they desist from taking actions that are inimical to the interests of our party and candidates. Notably, these individuals have not shown any remorse and have actually stepped up their actions. The party reviewed the serial anti-party activities of the concerned individuals before and during the last Presidential and National Assembly elections in their respective states and resolved to enforce party discipline in line with our constitution. The NWC noted how the suspended members have continued to campaign openly for other parties and candidates that are unknown to our great party, even while they have constituted themselves as opposition to APC candidates in their respective states. Importantly, the NWC is closely monitoring the activities of our members across the country, and particularly, in the states these suspended members belong to. We wish to reiterate that any member of our party who takes any action solely or in line with the directives of the suspended members to undermine our party’s candidates in the coming governorship and House of Assembly elections would face disciplinary actions. We wish to congratulate our members nationwide for the victories we recorded across the country in the last elections and particularly, the renewal of our party’s mandate for President Muhammadu to continue to pilot the affairs of this country for another four years. This could not have happened if not for the hardwork and commitment of our members. We therefore urge all our members to unite and work ever harder to ensure victory for our candidates across the states in the coming governorship and House of Assembly elections. Consequently, the NWC calls on our members to disregard directives and actions of the suspended individuals as APC would continue to live by the dictate of our constitution. Romanie-Jade Tulloch, a 20-year-old self-taught makeup artist from Nottingham, in the UK, combines her love of makeup and art to create mind-blowing optical illusions on her face. Romanie has always been into makeup, but she only started focusing on it two years ago, in the hopes of becoming a freelance makeup artist. She never studied professional makeup, preferring instead to hone her skills by watching online tutorials and experimenting with various cosmetics. Having studied fine arts for two years in college, she naturally drifted from conventional makeup to painting artistic optical illusions on her face and posting her best work on Instagram. Before she knew it, she had hundreds of thousands of followers on the popular social network. “I didn’t study makeup, but I was home educated by my mum, and then I studied for a fine art extended diploma at NCN college,” Romanie-Jade Tulloch told English newspaper Metro, last year. “I feel like these things really helped me focus on growing my art and different techniques, which funnily enough still helps me when I’m doing my makeup illusions.” The self-taught artist mostly relies on small paintbrushes and professional makeup products you can find in pretty much any cosmetics store, and spends between three and five hours on a single artwork. Romanie’s impressive makeup art has blown up on Instagram, and in less than two years, she has amassed a following of over 300,000 people. She also posts makeup tutorials on her YouTube channel. Romanie-Jade Tulloch is just one of the expert makeup artist who use Instagram to share their mind-blowing optical illusions with the world. Chaos has erupted in Rivers State after the result for the presidential election was declared on Tuesday evening. Enefiok Essien, the state collation officer, declared the results, three days after the collation exercise started in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. The collation exercise ended in chaos as agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) protested the deletion of the controversial Emohua Local Government Area (LGA) results. Out of the 23 LGAs in the state, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won 14, while President Muhammadu Buhari won three, after Emohua LGA was removed. Elections in some areas were also cancelled as a result of electoral malpractices and violence. According to the figures released by INEC, valid votes were 642,165; rejected votes were 24,420, and total votes cast were 666,585. APC polled 150,710 votes while PDP secured its win with 473,971. http://saharareporters.com/2019/02/26/breaking-chaos-rivers-inec-declares-presidential-election-result |

The legal team of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) has summoned an emergency meeting for
Tuesday, TheCable understands. Coming on the heels of the rejection of the presidential election result by the main opposition party, the meeting is expected to discuss the next line of action. The notice of meeting was sent by Kabir Turaki, former minister of special duties who unsuccessfully sought the presidential ticket of the PDP for the 2019 election. The meeting, which will hold at the Legacy House, Abuja, is expected to start at 4pm. Turaki, a senior advocate, told invitees to “appear in person” as there will be “no representation please”. “The legal works are about to begin,” a senior PDP official told TheCable. The outcomes of all the previous elections, bar 2015, were challenged in court, although Olu Falae withdrew his case against President Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999 after the intervention of prominent Nigerians. President Buhari challenged all the previous elections he lost — in 2003, 2007 and 2011. In 2015, President Goodluck Jonathan took the unprecedented step of conceding while the final result was yet to be announced. https://www.thecable.ng/breaking-pdp-legal-team-summons-emergency-meeting/amp |

Both teams believe strongly that they have
the lead and it is certain that whoever loses
would be unlikely to accept the results with
the conviction with which both teams push
the narrative that they are in the lead. With the declaration of the Independent National Electoral Commission that the results would be declared in a not too distant future, one can reasonably begin to fear that something is going wrong or is about to. The collation is taking so much time and the toll of violence is rising. In 2015, we already knew who the next President was by Sunday afternoon. It is not impressive that the elections so far have not reflected free and fair with some areas having experienced blood letting with deaths recorded, massive explosions, electoral disruptions, tribalist threats, burnt ballots and other such irregularities which have marred the ballot with the Senatorial candidate of a registered party even excluded from the ballot paper in Lagos state. As it is clear now, two options are taking a home run towards the Presidency and they are the incumbent Muhammadu Buhari and his closest rival Atiku Abubakar. Their supporters have insisted that they are both winning in an election where there can be only one winner. Both teams believe strongly that they have the lead and it is certain that whoever loses would be unlikely to accept the results with the conviction with which both teams push the narrative that they are in the lead. Right from the start of the electioneering, the groundwork of contestable and unacceptable result was laid with the early morning postponement on February 16, 2019. That postponement already created enough issues for whoever loses to base his faith upon that it was not a free and fair election with the complained low voter turnout yesterday being one of the complains linked to the postponement or the proliferation of sensitive materials which may have been used in polling units where there was disruption. What we should call into question at this particular time is if Nigeria is Winning. What substantial change does the devil or the deep blue sea represent for the Nigerian state? Is any of the two choices the correct outcome for Nigeria? What do we see in the next 4 years? Will aged Buhari take us to the Next Level? Will Atiku Get Nigeria Working while also making his friends rich? What substantial change can occur between 2019 and 2023 if either of the two candidates emerge? Atiku is Winning, Buhari is Winning. Nigeria may not be winning. Koye-Ladele Mofehintoluwa writes from Obafemi Awolowo University. He is a Law Student. A Civil Rights Activist. A Public Policy and Economic Analyst. The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has won with wide margin the senatorial elections results in Ideato South Local Government Area (LGA) of the state. Running under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Okorocha who is from Ogboko, a village in the LGA, scored 24, 102 votes to beat his closest challenger, Jones Onyeriri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Mr Onyeriri, a member of the House of Representative polled a paltry 3108 votes. He was closely followed by the candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and a former senator of the district, Osita Izunaso, who polled 2801 votes. In the presidential polls, Muhammadu Buhari also scored 20,663 votes in the LGA to beat Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the PDP who polled 8,844 votes. Action Alliance won the House of Representatives in the LGA with 22,231 votes against the APC and PDP who scored 5534 and 2266 respectively. By this result, the outgoing governor has won one of the 12 local governments in his Imo West (Orlu) zone. Other results from the zone are currently being collated and summed up at the INEC office in Orlu LGA amidst tight security and tension. The governor is angling to replace Hope Uzodinma, the senator of Imo West who, in turn, is angling to replace Mr Okorocha in the governorship race coming up on March 9, in what is considered the first test of his political foray. While Mr Okorocha is hoping to deliver the district for President Buhari, he is also rooting for his son- in-law, Uche Nwosu, candidate of the AA in the upcoming governorship elections. Mr Okorocha, while casting his vote earlier Saturday, confirmed incidents of ballot box snatching in some polling units in the state. There were also several reported cases of invasion and harassment by thugs mostly because there were inadequate security personnel at polling centres within the district. Shortly before the governor’s arrival, PREMIUM TIMES reported a journalist, duly accredited to cover the polls, was harassed and briefly detained by the thugs in Mr Okorocha’s polling unit 10:14 am. This happened in the watching eyes of two female police personnel at the centre. Even when the journalist reported the matter to the nearby Ogboko area command, he was further advised by the police to “stay away from the area”. The Imo West zone is famed to have produced most of the notable names from the state. Apart from being the largest senatorial district made up of 12 LGAs, Imo west has since 1999 retained the governorship seat of the state for 16 years through Achike Udenwa (1999 – 2007) and now Mr Okorocha (2011 – 2019) who governed two terms each. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/ssouth-east/315774-buhari-wins-in-okorochas-local-government-area.html |
Buba Galadima, a political ally of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of Nigeria’s main opposition in Saturday’s presidential election, was arrested on Sunday, his Peoples Democratic Party has said. Specifics of the development were still unclear as of press time, but the party’s spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, told PREMIUM TIMES it occurred in Abuja. “He was accosted on the road and arrested,” Mr Ologbonyan said, adding that he was still making efforts to obtain further details. A host of opposition voices online quickly pointed at the State Security Service as the agency responsible for Mr Galadima’s arrest, and demanded his immediate release. A spokesperson for the SSS told PREMIUM TIMES he could not immediately confirm or deny claims of Mr Galadima’s arrest. The news comes barely a few hours after a spokesperson for President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign asked security agencies to arrest Mr Galadima, who has been amongst the most vocal spokespersons for the opposition. Festus Keyamo accused Mr Galadima of recording a video announcing Mr Abubakar winner of the Saturday’s polls. Mr Keyamo did not attach evidence of the purported recording in his statement, which was published Sunday afternoon in the media. Also on Sunday afternoon, some PDP elements released a statement, saying there was a credible plot to arrest the party’s leaders and clampdown on party loyalists running its election situation room in Abuja. Two persons who had been at the situation room told PREMIUM TIMES they had evacuated following news of Mr Galadima’s arrest. It was yet unclear whether the arrest, which PREMIUM TIMES has not independently confirmed, was at the instance of Mr Keyamo’s statement. Mr Abubakar is the main challenger to Mr Buhari in the presidential poll, whose close results were still being collated across the country. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/315765-nigerian-opposition-leader-buba-galadima-arrested.html |
The party said Atiku who is its presidential
candidate, is “in clear lead both in spread and total
number of votes cast”. The party made the call in a statement by Kola Ologbondiyan, its spokesman, on Sunday afternoon, when collation is still ongoing at ward level in some states. According to the PDP, “intelligence available to us is that INEC is delaying the announcement of results following directives by the Buhari Presidency and the All Progressives Congress (APC), which are bent on altering the figures from the polling centers and allocate fictitious figures for President Muhammadu Buhari, particularly in northern states.” It alleged that results are no more being transmitted, claiming “this is to enable the APC to inflate figures from six designated states.” “We call on international observers and election monitors to insist on a transparent process of transmission of results and the monitoring thereof,” the party said. “We already have reports of how APC governors in the northern states have been making desperate effort to tamper with the results of the elections in their respective states with the view to award conjured votes to President Buhari.” It said Nigerians are monitoring the results as delivered at the polling centers and “any attempt to alter any figure will be faced with vehement resistance.” The party added: “The INEC chairman should therefore extricate himself from the rejected APC and be on the side of the people, by immediately announcing the results as already delivered at the polling units and declare, the people’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, the winner. “Anything short of this is not acceptable to Nigerians, who had already expressed their wishes and aspiration at the polls.” https://www.thecable.ng/pdp-to-inec-declare-atiku-winner-now/amp |

A national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, has said that he would accept the result of the presidential election even if it did not go the way of the party. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tinubu spoke with journalists after voting at Polling Unit 047, Ward 3, Ikeja at 11:20am. He said that the will of the electorate must be respected, adding that as a true democrat, free and fair elections must be protected. Tinubu was, however, upbeat about his party’s chances of winning the elections. “If my party is voted out in this election, I will accept it because it is the people’s verdict, that is their decision. Any democrat that cannot accept a result from a free and fair election is not worthy of that name. “As a true democrat, you must be able to accept the results of a free and fair election. “My hope and determination of my party is that we are winning this election because we have the support of the masses and if you look at our rallies, it is an indication of our party’s popularity that we are the populace. “We are not talking about the elites or those that are rich, but the poor masses, farmers, traders, artisans and the common man who seek for continuity,” he said. Tinubu, however, rated the conduct of the elections as successful so far, adding that though elections were expensive, yet it remained the best way of choosing leaders. “The election has been successful so far, so good. It has demonstrated the resilience of the people and like the President has said; we have chosen the best way in a difficult way. “Democracy is the toughest way of selecting a leader but the best system. With resilience of the people and strong determination we are getting there,” Tinubu said. https://www.legit.ng/1223747-if-apc-voted-ill-accept-peoples-verdict-tinubu.html |
