It's in one of the current MEND's threads. Didn't you see it? Why are you asking for it again? |
ezeagu:So you believe that the decision of Moremi, a Yoruba woman to marry the masqueraded Igbos in order to find out if they were spirits or humans was enough to share similar words when the contact the Igbos had with the Yorubas at this time was mostly in war times. How much time do you have to learn the language of your enemies before killing them in the battlefield? It just doesn't add up. |
You need to stay in Aba to understand how daring these guys are. We begged a patrol vehicle of soldiers to guide us when we didn't see any vehicle coming towards PH for like 20 minutes, the soldiers sped off with their vehicles, leaving all of the commuters behind them, at the sight of the kidnappers along Aba-PH road. We all ran into the bushes abandoning the vehicles and slept in the bush till morning. |
Gera1980:No, she's wrong the correct word is 'Igbo' for both the name of the people and their language. 'Ibo' is a misnomer and offensive. Try educating your German people that that is how the native speakers of the language call themselves in their language. |
The Yorubas didn't have much interaction with the Igbos during the slave trade era. Most of the returnee freed slaves who might have mingled were re-settled in Libreville and Freetown, not in Nigeria with the exception of a few Saros whose influence would have been insignificant. The link between the Yorubas and Igbos had been the binis who served as middlemen in the exchange of cultures. Yet, there exists a number of shared words between Yoruba and Igbo that are non-existent in bini. A possible indication that there must be be some proto-language and distant relationship in the past since their current isolated locations make such impossible. |
24-28 furu gi/huru gi means 'see you'. 'Igbo nile furu gi nanya' means 'Igbo people love you',or literally ' Igbo people see you in the eye'. |
ezeagu:What is striking about the possible shared words are that they are very corrupted yet you can still see some of the consonant structures still intact. Take 'ufufe' and 'afefe', or 'onye' and 'eniyan' for instance. If they were mere influenced words, like 'okwute/okwuta' which stands for 'stone' in almost all southern Nigerian languages(iIgbo, Yoruba, urhobo, bini, etc) the corruption is much lesser. |
bk.babe97y:It seems you are going to end up dying with 'Ojukwu' and 'Biafra' as your last words. |
The average islamist extremist see everything as muslim vs. christians. Without being told, everyone is supposed to be security conscious 24/7. Always take proactive measures, not reactive ones. |
@ OP Whao! I'm proud of your interest in Igbo language and culture. Keep it up, the more Igbo you becoming, the more you'll get into your boyfriend's heart. I'll love to see you guys married so you can come visit Igbo land and run some foundation of encouraging more Igbo kids in the villages to go to universities. Chukwu gozie gi. Igbo nile furugi nanya. P.S. Seems german girls are easy to Igbonize, mind hooking me up with a fine one. Also, the correct term is 'Igbo' as the name of our language and people, not ibo which is a misnomer. We find it offensive being referred to as 'ibo'. |
Try to read a book titled 'How Igbo and Yoruba became 2 languages'. It was written by one Yoruba professor. You can also go to the culture section, i posted some extracts/examples from the book. |
^^^ Maybe sell sands from the Bar Beach. That would be a nice idea. |
One thing i know is that it's more easier for aspects of culture such as mode of dressing, food, occupation, etc to change than the language. Ika claims that it's language is 60% Igbo, 40% bini; while their customs are 20% Igbo, 80% bini. |
tpiah:It still depends on the type of crowd you are talking about. Companies and businesses move with new ports created. Less crowding doesn't automatically equals to better plan. There are many cities in Nigeria that have lesser population than Lagos, but are not as developed as Lagos. So it's all about the state's ability to get internally generated revenue + whatever it can recieve from the Federation Account. This is how Nigeria works, in case you are already lost. |
tpiah:Stop imagining things. Are you on cracks? It seems you know nothing about state revenue. With all the big guns gone elsewhere, that means reduced tax and less income. |
tpiah:And make it look like its cousin, the world's biggest living slum site, Ibadan, poor and bankrupt. |
Igbos should not only just own lands, but own firearms. A Minimum of one Ak-47 for every Igbo family. We should never stay away from owning arms, this failing state called Nigeria is second only to Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia. Let Igbos be always ready blood letting anytime. This is the Nigerian destiny until she crumbles. |
Nigeria is truly a failing state. |
phantom:Even with all the import duties and taxes Lagos is exclusively collecting, it's still on the verge of bankruptcy. Just open up 2 or 3 more ports on the south coast to share the import revenue and allow a large chunk of 'omo ibo' to get their imports through the new ports and lets see if babapupa and his likes will come here to say Lagos this, Lagos that when the state becomes fully bankrupt. |
sbeezy8:Dude, what do you usually smoke in the morning before sitting in front of the computer? And who told you Yorubas dont live in droves outside Yoruba land? There's even a 'Yoruba' village in a place like Jos? The Igbos you accuse of living in droves in Yoruba land only do so in Lagos, which still makes sense since it's the only SW city that is slightly developed than the SE cities. It's also the same reason why all you Yorubas left your Ogbomoso and your world's biggest living slum you call Ibadan or where ever your Yoruba villages are to become 'lost' in Lagos because obviously you guys cant live in your slums. |
MaziUche0:That doesn't alter what i said. I said it without fear or favour. With a population that large, we have a share of both. Southern Abians are the most educated, it's a known fact. |
The commemoration is about independence not existence. Yes, Nigeria came into being 96 years ago, but only started self-rule only 50 years ago which is what the noise-making is all about. |
asha 2:Thank you, my brother. No one can judge Ngwa-Ukwa until one of them is tested to lead Abia. It's just like a mini typical Nigerian system where mere minorities rule the more educated majority and the result has been very predictable. Ngwa-Ukwa land possess the most educated Abians to effect needed changes. |
Ileke-IdI:My dear, i didn't mean you. These your brothers dey make person vex with their upside down questions. |
85% of the@DatniggaAk Your ignorance doesn't amaze me. An average Yoruba believe that if you dont speak Yoruba or Hausa, then you are Igbo. Why wouldn't you come up with a confused statistics like this when you cant differentiate an idoma from an ibibio/efik, or an esan from an ogoja native. Whatever it is that you been smoking is really working wonders on you |
Ikengawo:What have you gained so far with this silly thread you put up here? If you are self-hating and you want to insult yourself, do so without dragging the name 'Igbo' into it next time. The good name of the Igbo race is beyond you and you have no right whatsoever to disrespect Igbos. I'm absolutely disappointed in you because you have chosen to go against the good virtues your parents instilled in you. |
Another attempt to villify Ngwa-Ukwa and bar them from any gubernatorial ambitions. A state where minorities lord it over the majority who lays the black gold that foots the bill. It wont work. |
One of these days i promise to visit Ika land to personally verify all these arguments. I remember driving along umunede sometime ago and i heard a guy screaming 'anyi bu umunne' to somebody else on the other side. That to me is clearly intelligible Igbo. If the guy was a native of umunede is another thing which i couldn't verify. But i promise to drop by in the future to confirm how Igbo or less Igbo these Ikas are. |
ALMUSTAQIM:Can you provide your source for this info? |
TewMuch:Yoruba can also mean a person who talks fo.olishly. In Igbo, 'Yoruba' means f.oolish talker. |
TewMuch:Hahaha! Very funny. In Igbo land, no one worries about Yorubas. It's completely non-existent in their psyche. Igbos are born colonizers, it's others that worry about our voracity. |

. I enjoy it, anyone that insults ibo people is Yoruba automatically? Yoruba are the cause of your problems, and Yoruba are the only people that see ibo's in a bad light? hahahha. You people are terrified and scared to death of Yoruba's.
