James1 you can go thru this thread  https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=504625.msg6942496#msg6942496
and see for yourself what is going on there. I have already abandoned the thread for them as I can't imagine discussing with people ranting like that, pouring all their frustration and animosity against God on me. If they are atheists, can't they hold it to themselves and leave christians to their belief. Do they have to insult the God I believe in and to my face too? You are even lucky that you did not come across the thread when it has all kinds of obscene perverted/disgusting pictures against christians that nearly made me throw up until some moderators came and wiped them away.
These guys are just an atom of the kind of insult and abuse that go on in this forum. The first day I entered this forum to commiserate with my fellow Nigerians on the death of president Yar adua, the welcome I got was serious abuse by the famous Nneka Anyanwu and some group of guys (I even mistook her for a frustrated Nigerian man and was surprised to learn that she is an exposed lady that lives in the US). My offense was being touched by the sight of the picture of Yar adua's grave. I was really shocked to the marrow that day.
A certain traumatized man whose wife is HIV positive came in here to seek advice on how to hold his family together through his ordeal and I don't know where some Nairalanders got the heart to laugh at this man and tell him that he will soon die. Why are some people exhibiting such more-than-heartless behaviour here. Such individuals should be put on check and some measures taken to prevent them from depressing good hearted Nigerians that come here to lime and bond with their people. Note that I am not speaking against NL but against the irresponsible behaviour of some members. I love the forum and even had a thread saying how I have come to be a bit addicted to it.
Siena, that comment above is very much below you, I mean you are too decent for that and I refuse to let go of that beautiful respect I have for you so let me make believe that that wasn't your comment. We all didn't have the same opportunity to learn to cross our T's and dot our I's dear. I hope you are doing great all the same.

If you read what the bible says it talks about the place becoming a burning pitch of fire for ever and states that no one will pass through the place again, yet people are still passing through the place. It is not a country by the way. . . . .The place is presently not a burning pitch is it?. . . .
It is figurative. The phrase 'fire burning for ever and ever' there and in some places in the Bible means complete destruction. It's burning forever also means that people will continue to remember them only in the pages of history, as you and I are doing now.

Ofcourse, there were some jews
already resident in Egypt before
the jews from Jerusalem came to
seek refuge in Egypt(and they all
met their waterloo there). The
already resident jews carried on
with their lives to set up the

It seems i didn't get my point across. Sorry for that. What i'm saying is that there are 2 sets of Jews in question.(1) The ones already resident in Egypt[Jer. 24:8] and (2)the ones who fled to Egypt to seek refuge when Nebuchadnezzar planned to destroy Jerusalem. The Jews that God said would have no remnant were those in group 2, who were fleeing from Jerusalem.

All these stuffs are not even prophecies by the way, because most of the things written in the bible were written long after the events had happened, a simple reading of the bible will tell you that is a recollection of old events and the authors were not even relating events they witnessed that's why you see phrases like "up till this day" signifying that the writer was narrating something that happened long ago.
I think we should all hold you responsible for that error. You brought the verse here as one of your supposedly 'failed' prophecies.

According to Isa 17:1, Damascus will be destroyed, but in fact Damascus is one of the few ancient cities that has never been destroyed. [The fact that so many were destroyed makes prophecies of the future destruction of ancient cities rather unremarkable.] If Isaiah had predicted that Damascus would never be destroyed, then that would have been remarkable.
Opinions are divided on this one. Some scholars say that this happened when Tiglath-pileser III attacked damascus, captured it, put Rezin to death, and exiled many damascenes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiglath-Pileser_III?wasRedirected=true

Other scholars believe that the assyrian assualt affected only the inhabitants and not the city itself and that the prophecy is yet to be fulfilled.

Like i said before, that a prophecy is yet to happen doesn't make it untrue.

According to Isa 19:5, Eze 30:12,
and Zec 10:11, the Nile River will
dry up,
The prophets here employee the figure of the Nile's drying up as a hyperbole to show the extent of the disaster due to come upon Egypt as a result of God's judgments against the nation. The Nile's failure would not only cripple agriculture and rearing of animals but also damage the fishing industry and the production of linen.

and according to Eze
29:9-12, Egypt will become
desolate for 40 years, with no
man or animal passing through it
and with all Egyptians dispersed,
but as a matter of fact the Nile
River has never dried up and in
the whole history of Egypt no
such calamitous events have ever
occurred
This may have come after Nebuchadnezzar's conquest of Egypt(Jer. 43:10-13). Evidence of his defeat of Egypt outside the Bible includes a babylonian text dated to Nebuchadnezzar's 37th year(588 BCE) which mentioned a campaign against Egypt. Unfortunately, secular history does not capture all that happened in the past. But we can be sure that it happened sometime after Egypt's destruction by Babylon.

Here are just a few. . . . .

According to Jos 8:28, the city of Ai will be destroyed forever. In actuality, Ai did have later inhabitants. (See Ezr 2:1,28 and Ne 7:32.)
Jos 8:28 KJV-'And Joshua burnt Ai, and made
it a heap for ever, [even] a
desolation unto this day.'

'a desolation unto this day' indicates that as at the time of the writer writing Ai was not inhabited. 'forever' can also mean 'for a long undetermined time' or 'an indefinite time' as also used in Gen. 6:3

According to Ex 3:8, the
Israelites will live in a large land,
flowing with milk and honey, and
according to 2Sa 7:10, they will
not be disturbed anymore, but
as a matter of historical fact
Israel (and vicinity) has been a
relatively small and mostly
barren land, and the Israelites
have been continually harassed
from all sides.
The promised land was large and fertile. Shephelah is a hilly lowland where vineyards and olive groves flourished, the valley of Jezreel was productive for wheats, and the plain of Sharon has large quantity of citrus orchards cultivated there even now.

2 Sam. 7:10 was one of the blessings of God's covenant with David which manifested fully during the reign of Solomon when the Israelites did not fight a single battle. The blessing would continue as long as David's sons were faithful to God. However, toward the end of his life, Solomon became unfaithful and the blessing of peace was removed. 'Therefore the LORD said to
Solomon, “Because you have
done this, and have not kept My
covenant and My statutes, which
I have commanded you, I will
surely tear the kingdom away
from you and give it to your
servant. Nevertheless I will
not do it in your days, for the
sake of your father David; I will
tear it out of the hand of your
son. However I will not tear
away the whole kingdom; I will
give one tribe to your son for
the sake of My servant David,
and for the sake of Jerusalem
which I have chosen.'- 1 Ki 11: 11-13

According to Isa 14:23, Babylon
will become wet, but that never
happened. According to Jer
51:36, Babylon will become
totally dry, but that never
happened either. According to
other verses, [11] Babylon will
never be inhabited by people
again, but in fact Babylon has
been continually inhabited by
people since that time.  It is now
part of Iraq.
Isa 14:23-Babylon was a city that lay on both sides of the Euphrates River and had many pools of water already. What is remarkable in the verse is that Babylon would become a possession of hedgehogs, together with its pools of of water.
Jer 51:36-This happened when Cyrus diverted the Euphrates River into artificial lakes.

I'll be taking them bit by bit. Wait for the rest.

but in fact Babylon has
been continually inhabited by
people since that time.
This is not true. All that
remains of the original ancient
famed city of Babylon today is a
mound, or tell, of broken mud-
brick buildings and debris in the
fertile Mesopotamian plain
between the Tigris and Euphrates
rivers.

There is nothing to unravel because they are thesame group.
Do we have any concrete evidence to prove so. Kidnapping rings usually need camps and other things they use in carrying out their operations, how easier is it for strange persons to hold people hostage in organized camps in places in a state different from their own base?

Let us always try to stay away from assumptions and avoid blunders like the recent one surrounding MEND where every criminal wants to commit crime in the name of MEND.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria: Indian Principal Kidnapped In Niger Delta by excanny: 4:32pm On Oct 14, 2010
There is strong kidnapping ring based in Akwa ibom state that is equally as notorious as the ones that held Abia state hostage for 2 years.

I think the attention that was being given to Abia took the shine off this other group based in Akwa ibom. The only puzzle that remains unresolved in these kidnap incidents is whether these 2 groups of kidnappers are a syndicate, or carry out their criminal activities independently. This is one thing the security operatives need to unravel.

I am having the feeling that the situation in Akwa ibom may end up escalating, with increasing number of kidnap cases going on in the state. This is the second i've heard of this week alone, not to talk of many others that would have gone unreported. Let's just hope that the authorities will not wait until the damage is done before taking steps to curb this socially deviant act.

^^^ Last time I checked though, Nigeria is under democratic system of government. The presidency does not create laws that affect you and me but formulates policies which are subject to debate especially at the National Assembly. The economic policies that will have adverse or favorable effect on Ndigbo do not necessarily flow from the presidency. In fact, greater numbers of such policies emanate from National Assembly where laws that govern Nigeria are erected.  So I do not think presidency should be the priority of Ndigbo except those who think going to Aso Rock is feat that must be accomplished.
I agree with that, in theory, this is how affairs are to be run.

But come to think of it, most of those laws and policies are heavily influenced by the President, since he gives the accent to turn such bills into laws. The National Assembly would not risk coming up with bills that the President would be averse to. Such policies will end up never seeing the light of day.

Have you ever wondered why the likes of Femi Otedola and Jimoh Ibrahim are busy rooting for GJ? The reason is not far-fetched. If GJ becomes the next president, their good turns will deserve many others. That is why you dont just sit down and watch. I hope Ifeanyi Ubah and other Igbo businesses understands what these kinds of politicking translates into and look for ways in the future to play their cards right.

Such prophecies can not be trusted. The book of Daniel was written 4 centuries after the events occurred. The writer must have helped himself with some history textbooks. vaticinia ex eventu or prophecies after the event.
The prophesy in question that i referred to is to be found in the Book of Isaiah(Isaiah 13:19; 14:22,23; 44:27-45:2) I dont know what you have against the Book of Daniel, but i hope to tackle that soon.

What is the authenticity of the Book of Isaiah?

Archaelogical evidence such as Sennacherib's hexagonal prism on which he gives his own account of the siege of Jerusalem(Isa chapters 36, 37) is proof that it's genuine.

The heap of ruins of the uninhabited site of ancient Babylon-about 80 km south of Baghdad, Iraq also bears witness to the fulfillment of Isa 13:17-22. This is a living testimony that the Book of Isaiah is a book from God.
