We are simply fooling ourselves! Southerners generally treat northerners like they're bronze age barbarians. DonCandido: I think sub Saharan Africans have no shame for being maltreated because we do not really understand why nations exist. We think mass migration as a first option (for soluble problems) is acceptable. This makes us look weak and pathetic -- always grovelling and begging for help. Like as if they're father christmas. People should be asking wtf AU is doing to help these people instead of demanding for external help. We don't wanna stay back and do what must be done to make our respective countries habitable for the sake of our future generations. Evicting tyrants, creating a sustainable government system, gaining knowledge for wealth creation etc. If people, understood that it's our sole responsibility to ensure our nation is prosperous, we won't jump ship and be grovelling at every opportunity. Shame would come first. 6 Likes 1 Share |

12submarine: Insult, insult, insult. What exactly is the meaning of insult? Why should human actions be dictated by their immediate emotions and not by reason? Brain stem over Cortex? Why can't people learn to see past [via introspection] fake emotions that's only a facade for shame, bruised egos, tyrannical tendencies etc? Is it an insult to state factual events? Is it an insult to state the truth that Mohammed married an underaged girl, and was a savage killer? At the very best, such statements or accusations are up for debate. Not violent response. Christians are similarly lampooned for their violent history, yet no one decides that heads must be chopped off bodies; in fact, many of them accept the truth that they were once a violent group. The fact that you can't understand this simple but extremely important idea worries me. If we can't learn to control our base emotions, we can't create a civilised diverse society where in ideas are systematically criticized in a logical fashion for the aim of advancement. 4 Likes 1 Share |

After 8 pages, not a single Muslim had the moral conviction, out of shame, to solely condemn the incident. The only nonsense you will hear from "moderates" is: "... but let us respect each other's religion" -- enforcing blasphemy laws where there are none. It doesn't matter how liberal a country is - US, Sweden, UK - they always try to enforce unacceptable blasphemy laws on people who don't subscribe to such! Any idea, religion or person's conduct can be criticized; it is your responsibility to bring up counter-arguments to prove otherwise, not to respond with violence as barbarians do -- unable to control their emotions. This is exactly why I find most Muslims to be absolutely pathetic. If you can't take the heat, don't play the game -- pack your bags and form your country where absolute authoritarian laws reign! Seun's rules only serve to entrench the idea of Muslim exclusivity. Special privileges, protection from criticisms, to keep them from going violent. Like they're fvcking babies! 6 Likes 4 Shares |

Primesky: Going through with this line of reasoning, one has to wonder why pain (no matter how small) existed BEFORE the original sin as everything was perfect and Adam+Eve were created in his image. Wouldn't make sense for pain to exist before the curse. But like NPComplete said, these arguments are only for educational purposes. They're trivial compared to other logical inconsistencies in the Bible. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

basugar441: AideeSheks: Hypocrisy? Double standard? Surely you do not understand the meaning of liberalism. Criticism of ANYONE'S assertions, moral outlook, ideologies etc is at the heart of liberalism. Even an extremist can be liberal as long as he is willing to bring forth his ideas to the altar of liberalism for test via criticisms as well as criticize others' ideas!! The real irony is the fact that, like the OP, Muslims [and Christians, and basically all religious groups] love talking about their superior moral standing WITH RESPECT TO "kufrs" + talking about how their views are the right ones HOWEVER you guys [MUSLIMS MOST ESPECIALLY] do not want a level playing field whereby your views are EQUALLY OPEN TO CRITICISMS! You criticize others but prefer protection from criticisms, exclusivity, the right to take offense to criticisms, and blasphemy laws. Now, that's double standards! I am not the intolerant one, I'm merely criticizing OP's views. The honest fact is that your religion needs massive reforms to ensure peaceful co-existence, not just in Nigeria but everywhere! 2 Likes 1 Share |

Haha! The rantings of some fvcking intolerant caveman who gets excited by the smallest patch of female skin and thinks he's morally superior to others that don't believe in his Allah and his dark ages way of life. Imagine labelling other people as filth because they don't cover up their bodies like fvcking mummies! Southerners don't deserve to share a nation with these arseholes. They don't give a fvck about secularism or democracy. And it's not just the northern Muslims. I've spoken with "moderate" Algerian, Turkish, Pakistani, Saudi, etc. people and they're mostly the fvcking same! They ultimately want their way of life imposed on others. For women to cover their bodies from head to toe. It's why the average northern muslim sees nothing wrong with Usman Dan Fodio's conquest as it was "his moral obligation to purify" the land -- land that's neither his nor his people's! Finally, Seun does the country more harm than good by protecting Islam and her adherents from criticism. These muslim threads only contribute to entrenching a highly intolerant, non-liberal ideology. A meeting point for the exchange and spread of fundamentalist ideas -- one can only imagine the tens of thousands of Nigerian Muslims that believe the utter nonsense in these threads! 2 Likes 2 Shares |

And it's also not because everyone wants to be an engineer or a doctor. We also don't have competent engineers that can build stuff. It's the same in these fields --- a general dearth of skill and professionalism in the country. The problem is the government. An educated and responsible government would embark on awareness programmes to educate fellow citizens on why you can't possibly turn body parts into money, that rituals are barbaric, primitive and infantile, publicly call out religious leaders and other pagan spiritualists who reinforce such ideas for their personal gain etc. However, since 99.9% of Nigerians believe in the spiritual, leaders included, no one is willing to attack the root cause as it affects their beliefs -- even at the annual cost of hundreds of lives to rituals and loss of property to offerings + tithes (fundamentally the same thing). Herein lies the major danger of active spiritualism --- the belief that the supernatural always influences the natural; hence, the need to offer intercessory incentives like property and human lives. Along with the corrosion of the important societal ideal that it's ultimately your responsibility to handle whatever comes your way a.k.a hardwork + self development + time management. 10 Likes 6 Shares |

Nigerians (and many Africans) are a wonderful example of the extent to which a group of people can partake in mass delusion and denial. We certainly don't have numerous bookstores scattered across the country, neither is it the case for libraries. The few available are hardly stocked with good books. We have no reading culture. It's also simply a lie that many Nigerians are well read. The abysmal literacy rates in Nigeria is a fact well known to many people around the globe. Same thing happened during the sh!thole event. You can keep on lying to yourselves, but you're f00ling no one. It's nice to defend your country and raise awareness about racial discrimination but we're never going to earn anyone's respect if we continue to behave as a people who don't care for our dignity, our future, our kids and can't build a civilised society with good ideals. 3 Likes |

SMH. Nigerians are really fvcking stupid. Just because Anton Lavey talked about humanoids for sexual purposes and blended it with his ideology in the 80s, they think it's some satanic prophesy and the world is gonna end. Mad people! Many people have predicted such long before the 1980s e.g. think old sci-fi novelists -- Phillip K. Dick's 1968 "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" or Isaac Asimov's books and many more. Any futurist, sci-fi enthusiast, transhumanist, or basically anyone with an imagination knows tech will inevitably lead to innovation in the sex industry -- e.g. think about the impending impact of VR/AR. There are even philosophers e.g. John Danaher, Sven Nyholm etc. who focus on the social and ethical implications of virtual/robot sex. I don't even know why the topic of intimacy gadgets (at such a low level) is a recurring discussion in Nigeria. It's becoming tiring but I have to keep repeating: Fucking enlighten yourselves! 3 Likes 1 Share |

Romance / Re: List Of Things Sex Doll Cannot Do By Nigerian Lady by Exciton(m): 2:50pm On Jan 17, 2018 |
All this started because of what happened to Aziz or so guy. As a result, people in the developed part of the world talked about the flaws of new age feminism, the dangerous postmodernist, post-truth and unscientific underpinnings of gender studies and so on. While in Nigeria (& some other sub-saharan African countries), it led to an argument on the equivalency between sex dolls and women - an avenue for males to bash women, while the women retorted with claims that men would miss their "enviable" qualities as a maid. I leave you to make inferences and conclusions on the level of intellectual discourse in our society. Keep on allowing your leaders allocate 7% of the budget on education. And surely, everyone with an iota of sense around the world notices these things. 1 Like |

Like someone once said, many Africans (Nigerians especially) don't really understand how the world works. Everyone keeps blaming "African leaders" like they're intellectually and morally different from us. I'll state the following key facts: 1. Power, respect, political clout, and wealth are not conferred like titles, they're earned. 2. Political influence, technological advantage and wealth are created by GAINING AND USING KNOWLEDGE - political philosophy, science, economics etc. By extension, power and respect has roots in GAINING KNOWLEDGE. 3. Claiming "equality" solely because you're also humans like them, or because of some universal declaration of human rights is simply not enough. We need to be at their level intellectually, to be able to do what they can do. Until then, no one will ever be really convinced that you're an equal! So, it's apparent that the most important thing we can do to get outta this embarassing mess, if we care for the future of our kids, is to GAIN KNOWLEDGE OF HOW THINGS WORK! You might claim it's the "African leaders'" job to provide quality education - true to an extent; however, the ultimate responsibility lies on each and everyone to educate oneself, especially in this situation we find ourselves in. The government has done a shoddy job but at least, you can read, write and use the internet. Take free online courses in whatever interests you - they're always introductory, never stop there. Download the required books and read them in a thorough and disciplined fashion. Even if you allocate just 2 hours of your free time per week, you'll eventually finish the book. Cut down on TV + wasted weekends of religious activities and owambe parties. Read 1 random article on philosophy/history/science per week. Free sites with a wealth of interesting articles: Quartz, Aero magazine, Futurism, Science, Wired, Mashable etc. LEARN! When a good number of us put in the necessary hard work to improve ourselves intellectually and pass it on to our offspring, we'll naturally have a better pool of people to choose leaders from. American intellectual founding fathers didn't just pop out of nowhere. It takes time for a society to produce true intellectuals!! 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Hehehehe. Since I can't lament on their threads, let me vomit here: Fücking rigid stone age religion. Constantly subjugating women + always worried that any action might be sinful due to their literalist take on their MANY "holy" writings. Just look at the shitty Friday topics: is it a sin to burn my hair with fire? Is it a sin to sück my big fat bälls? Total way of life my ass -- it's an authoritarian political ideology that seeks complete control over every aspect of life. Allowing hijabs anywhere other than in Muslim theocratic societies, not to speak of our court rooms, is nothing more than compromise for peace to reign. Hijab is a political statement of feminine subjugation, not a cultural or religious head gear -- unfortunately, I didn't pose this stronger argument claim against hijab use when the controversy was fresh. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Electric conduction in transistors (or any solid state electronic module) is fully governed by quantum mechanics. There would be no modern solid state electronics without quantum mech knowledge. The main miniaturization issues, I think (not exactly my field), should be heating and controlling current tunneling rate through parts that are meant to be insulating. What's being done? I have no idea. Maybe the solution will come from applying materials with useful properties (e.g topological insulators) or spintronics - maybe by arranging transistors with different spin currents to reduce interference effects or some sh!t. EZEIGBO1OFIMO: Hehe. Most people don't know how far behind and hopeless our situation is. Hence the optimism. I don't know much about economics to say anything useful. I know you're right about how globalization impedes industrial growth in underdeveloped countries and that globalization was in its infancy when Asian countries were growing. HOWEVER, comparative advantage or not, we need to start somewhere because I don't think we can ever become a developed nation without going through an enlightenment and industrialization age. Only two ways of skipping an industrialization age that comes to mind (in my limited imagination) is: some mind blowing tech to create finished goods out of thin air which is unlikely, and the use of highly developed AI to do our manufacturing for us. The AI might as well rule/discard us as we would be utterly useless! Anyways, I don't think any of these would happen. I also don't think we'll ever get to an enlightenment & fully industrialized age within the life time of Nigeria as a sovereign nation. I think we are already on an inevitable path to, yet again, become a colony and, this time around, be fully absorbed into a more developed nation or federation. I'm not an optimist! 2 Likes |

Apart from that, we have had writers and you have to agree that some have been really good at it (e.g. Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe etc). So it looks like it might just have been lack of childhood exposure and a lack of proper teachers to thoroughly teach the basics. EZEIGBO1OFIMO: I can easily explain why we never do well at the IMO because I first saw the questions when I was at Secondary school and also couldn't solve a full question. Look at our foremost math competition in Nigeria: Cowbell. It's basically EASY plug and play speed math. Nothing more. It doesn't involve any complex problem solving skill. And I watched a movie about the training of kids for the IMO. I assure you, there's not a SINGLE secondary school teacher that can teach our kids number theory and the likes that's a necessary pre-requisite to solve most IMO level problems. The reason we perform so poorly at the IMO is simply because we have no one to teach our kids the tools needed to solve those kinda problems. It's nothing intrinsic. That I am 100% sure of. 1 Like |
