Fvck me!! I can't believe some people are actually arguing that it has to be supernatural because the animal can't possibly climb poles or that it should have been electrocuted after touching the first cable. ![]() Nollywood + religion + poor education has done too much damage in Nigeria. We aren't just ignorant, we're confident about it and don't wanna change. |
rampantlover:The real problem is that we Nigerians are absolutely powerless to respond to our tyrannical rulers' whims. |
Damn! She's fvcking gorgeous |
Finally, a thread where we can laugh at Islam without having to swear allegiance to their prophet. ![]() I really hope this is a sign that the prince is serious about moderate Islam. Honestly gonna be the best news for the world. But the more we make fun of them for their hypocrisy, the more resistant they'll be to shedding their islamic literalist and fundamentalist tendencies. |
RZArecta:You obviously don't understand what I wrote. "You" meant Nigerians. As regards your question, I have to answer as it is quite insulting to all sub-saharan africans since you inherently mean we are intellectual handicaps. I do research to make more efficient organic based LEDs + perovskite thin film solar cells + flexible & wearable sensors. |
RZArecta:How won't they pass you? When you refuse to read hardcore science texts to thoroughly understand physical phenomena. |
royalamour:So, it's low self-esteem not to care about our reputation as a people?? We don't have a history of making sh!t, we spend most of our time on religious crap and you're saying we should be proud of that? I don't understand why we should be okay with defending utterly stupid beliefs in the name of culture/religion which, in turn, warrants being tagged as "low IQ and dumb people." Just so you know: 1. The Irish used to be very fvcking superstitious and most people also called them babaric, unable to rule themselves, dumb etc. Just the kinds of words most Africans are describd with. If their govt and the educated ones didn't do anything about it, they'll have lagged behind and retained a damaging international reputation. 2. There's are countries whose health ministry takes IQ measurements annually to monitor & try to ensure that their kids remain smart. They care about their reputation and future. |
Mcowubaba:Nairaland is full of low quality people and comments. Three pages in and you're basically the only person talking about cause/solution to rampant human trafficking and related issues. My opinion: All the sh!t happening to us and why many african countries are underdeveloped is basically because the country is run mainly as an exploitative entity. Many African leaders and others in power have too much power and aren't accountable to anyone, so the primary reason for the existence of the State has long shifted from civilization & higher living standards for the people to cornering of wealth for personal use. Thus, no need to invest in education, a huge focus on raw materials extraction for quick wealth, no creation/enforcement of standards for living quality, no need to care about the dignity of a people nor their legacy or international reputation etc etc. It's basically why we have no clear plan for the future. So, don't expect any government to care about solving these issues. It's not their primary goal. ![]() |
Lol. Just read the comments. We are in trouble!! Our society and schools are producing lunatics far divorced from reality and rational thought. |
SalamRushdie:The scary truth. Probably even more (>99% I daresay) believe in supernatural sh!t. And we wonder why we are underdeveloped. |
Lol. Your pastors and herbalists will continue scamming you as long as you believe magic/miracles are real. |
We are deceiving ourselves with our secular state status. The country is in reality a religious republic ruled by poorly educated religious fanatics at all levels. How do you define immoral dressing? By what standards? By religious and cultural standards in a supposed secular state?? Such laws, which obviously have religious roots, violate the separation of religion and state. On what authority do you dictate what adults are supposed to wear? I'm tired of this country! It's been hijacked. At least, let's officially declare a Christian and Islamic republic so that secular guys like us can easily secure refugee status in developed countries. |
Buhahahahahahaha!! Ancestral Python spirit! How the heck do people come up this kinda sh!t? I salute your creativity!! |
As early as the 1890s, it was the norm for the American media to heavily ridicule those who believed in folklore, magic, mysticism etc. Fast forward 120+ years and the Nigerian media does quite the opposite: reinforcement of primitive beliefs. Journalists post BS stories without verification to push traffic/sales, movie makers constantly barrage the populace with "babalawo" movies etc. When will the so called Nigerian "intellectuals" come out to educate the masses that flesh/bones can't be transmuted into money, that alchemy isn't real, that global and local energy conservation laws have to be broken for such to happen, that physics and chemistry don't work that way?? I think these so called intellectuals who do high level scientific research and live comfortably in developed countries but can't spare 30 mins of their life to contribute to the enlightenment of their people are the real fvckers. No one gives a fvck about educating the citizenry. Most people are a little better than fvcking stark illiterates with no critical reasoning. It's why our leaders fvck us over again and again. Zero focus on human development. It's why we're underdeveloped. Such a shameful bunch! |
Extreme patriarchy turn men into egotistical animals, women into mere property. This event only makes sense in societies like ours. |
Fvck religion and stupid primitive African culture. We need to focus on population control and human development above all other things. |
People here have a really narrow world view. As long as the tech exists, people will surely do whatever makes them happy. This would hardly be considered a body mod in the next hundred years. Crazier stuff than this will be the norm when we fully enter the age of wearable tech and advanced biotech. |
It's these sort of Christians I find repulsive. The kind that publicly proselytizes, forcing down his ramblings through everyone's ear canal whether one likes it or not. They know it's rude to force their beliefs on others but they don't care. Utterly disgusting behaviour! And it's the norm in Naija. |
The country will remain hopeless as long as crooks and illiterates make it to the top. The idi0ts at the top are too dumb to care about human development and quality of life. It takes less than 15 years for one to acquire the knowledge required to build equipment such as these. It would also cost less than 1 billion dollars to set up basic high tech zones for research and development across the nation. Another half of a billion to improve universities and vocational institutes up to an acceptable standard. Regulate the quality of teachers etc. But the idi0t leaders would rather buy mansions in Dubai and acquire jets and the latest cars. Instant gratification, no long term goals. Fvcking dvmb leaders! PS: I've read some talking crap like: "hidden knowledge", "blame the colonial masters", "the country is just 57 years old" etc. It's fücking sh!t. Take responsibility! |
Greatzeus:This has to be the most astonishing post I've ever seen on this forum. |
lovelygurl:Just the fact that the useless post got 120+ likes shows how shallow the average Nairalander's reasoning is. Too many dumb people indeed! In addition to what you've said, they didn't bother to check that the German system of government is very different from that of African countries and the power lies in the hand of the German people to make her party a minority in the Bundestag thus severely limiting her chances of becoming the Chancellor. Unlike African leaders who only have to rig and give out tubers of yam or simply cancel elections and install themselves as perpetual rulers. |
EZEIGBO1OFIMO:To the best of my knowledge, there's no such thing as absolute good/evil. In the end, every thing is nothing more than an event, the universe is indifferent to whatever happens to people... entire galaxies die probably more than once in a second, not to speak of humans. The notion of good and evil is a social construct. There isn't any true morals to follow, hence the existence of many moral philosophies. However, the commonsense approach is to put the survival of the human species, animals, & the planet/any other planet fit for us at the forefront. This approach will prioritize human cooperation to achieve goals beneficial to the survival of the aforementioned. Thus, the need for us to be nice to one another, etc. You can follow guys like Alain de Botton, James Lindsay etc on Twitter for some views on moral philosophy. |
EZEIGBO1OFIMO:This probably applies only to African countries. Many people raise their kids and teach them right from wrong using humanist atheistic moral philosophy rather than an appeal to the wrath of an imaginary figure. Doing otherwise would suggest that it's hard to understand basic logic of humanist ideals. |
A new age has already begun and yet again, our leaders have positioned us at the bottom of the chain. Since our leaders are completely short sighted and uninterested in human development, we are always providing raw materials to others in exchange for small profits. In this new AI, AR, quantum computing, alternative energy source world we are embarking on, even the relatively advanced Southern Nigeria will be providing nothing more than low level programming solutions via outsourcing by the richer nations. We will never be leaders in any industry because we have illiterate f00ls for leaders only interested in making quick money for mansions in Dubai etc. Lots of talented young Nigerians will never fulfill their immense potential. It's the sad reality. PS: I pity those saying electric cars would only be a thing in developed countries. Almost all developing countries except Nigeria [and some others] haven't got electricity sorted out. |
omenka:Lol. She's a popular writer, not a scholar. |
OsamaBinPaul:Lol. The average Islamic cleric up north spew hateful stuff far worse than this as regards the US, Israel, infidels, southerners etc. The only diff is that stupid Kanu kept recording his drivel. That, however, doesn't make them any different. |
madridguy:I'm Yoruba and what you wrote is complete horseshit! Fake emotions IMO. What exactly is the army's mission in the East? Is it to take Kanu into custody? If so, why haven't they done that?? They are more than capable of doing just that. The occupation of the East over the past few days served only to scare people, nothing more! The only thing we've seen is maltreatment and death of civilians. For the record, I'm Yoruba and I STRONGLY condemn everything happening in the East right now. Just because some demagogue gained a large following doesn't mean the government has to turn the place into a war zone. Neither does the statements of some idiotic trolls on social media warrant such actions on an entire region. You don't fight misinformation with violence, you do so with facts. Plus, if the government had done better in terms of education and social justice, perhaps he might have had a little or no attention from the illiterates behind him. And whatever part of Kanu's vitriol against the government that is truthful have to be addressed. |
Quality20:The kinda rubbish people come up with on nairaland can make one run mad I swear!! You'll be a good citizen in an authoritarian regime e.g. ISIS controlled territories ![]() |
BiggieSmallsVI:That's because most of the idi0ts running our education system are semi-educated at best. |
Sterope:Most of the idi0ts that made comments didn't bother to read the article. |
jeggienut:Writing test to wash toilet! ![]() I just hope these exploitative fvckers get hammered by the law... but we all know it won't happen. |
EZEIGBO1OFIMO:Haha. Still understandable if it came from the common folk. But this kinda BS misinformation coming from a science and technology inclined department of our country is unforgivable. The idi0ts just open their mouth and say whatever the fvck they like for whatever reason. |
