Politics / Aisha Buhari Makes A U-turn - I Will Support My Husband's 2nd Term Bid by exlinkleads(f): 6:04pm On Apr 15, 2018
Nigeria's President's wife, Aisha Buhari said on Saturday that she criticised her husband and threatened to withdraw her support for his re-election bid because of her “sense of justice.” She didn’t intend to confront or disrespect the president, she said in her acceptance letter to Vanguard Newspaper which made her its person of the year this week.

Mrs Buhari drew worldwide attention when she criticised Muhammadu Buhari in an October 2016 interview with the BBC, saying she feared his administration was veering from its mandate to the people. She also expressed doubt that she would support him if he seeks re-election unless he implemented immediate changes in personnel and policies.

“He is yet to tell me —if he’ll seek re-election— but I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before,” Mrs. Buhari warned. “I will never do it again.”

Mr Buhari responded at the time by telling her to save her opinion of his government and confine herself to the kitchen, sparking biting ridicule from the public.

Nearly two years on, Mr Buhari has commenced his re-election campaign , but yet to effect the cabinet shake-up demanded by his wife. Mrs Buhari had said the shake-up was necessary to encourage those who worked fervently to actualise her husband’s victory in 2015.

In her acceptance statement to Vanguard, Mrs Buhari did not say whether her expectations have been met, but indicated she would support his re-election bid. But as recently as January, she recirculated videos of senators who delivered scathing review of her husband’s performance in office.

“One of the reasons adduced for honouring me was the interview I granted which some people saw as criticism to a government that I am part of,” she was quoted as saying in the statement circulated by her media aide Suleiman Haruna. “I need to state that my position was a result of my sense of justice and not confrontation or disrespect. I was brought up to stand by the truth and this is how I have always been,”

“As we are all aware, Nigerians elected this administration based on the trust and confidence they have on my husband. "I therefore feel that we are here to serve Nigeria to the best of our ability. Let me use this opportunity to state that I support my husband in this call to service and will continue to do so,” she added.

South Africa Buries Nelson Mandela's Wife, Winnie Mandela Today Aimed Tears - Photos

Thousands of mourners have crowded into a stadium in Soweto, near Johannesburg, where Winnie Madikizela-Mandela is being given a high-level send-off. Her casket was draped in the national flag, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered the eulogy.

Mrs Madikizela-Mandela, former wife of Nelson Mandela, died earlier this month at the age of 81. A controversial figure, Mrs Madikizela-Mandela was lauded for her role in the anti-apartheid struggle. But she was later shunned by the political elite for endorsing punishment killings for government informers.

Mrs Madikizela-Mandela's daughter Zenani Mandela-Dlamini berated the "extreme cruelty" of those she said had led smear campaigns against her mother and isolated her - only to clear her name after her death.

In Winnie's daughter's words;

"It is so disappointing to see how they withheld their words during my mother's lifetime, knowing very well what they would have meant to her. Only they know why they chose to share the truth with the world after she departed," Mrs Mandela-Dlamini said.

President Ramaphosa described Mrs Madikizela-Mandela as a symbol of resistance who laid bare the edifice of patriarchy. He apologised for only belatedly recognising her contribution.

In the President's words;

"I'm sorry, Mama, that your organisation delayed in according you its honour, to this point in time and moment. As president, I will propose that we award you the highest order of our movement, you richly deserve to be awarded", Mr Ramaphosa said.

There were loud cheers when the radical Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema paid tribute to Mrs Madikizela-Mandela. Mrs Madikizela-Mandela was a social worker when she met her future husband, then a prominent anti-apartheid campaigner, in the 1950s.

They were married for a total of 38 years. For almost three decades of that time, they were separated by Mr Mandela's long imprisonment. They had two daughters together. After Mr Mandela was imprisoned by the apartheid regime, Mrs Madikizela-Mandela became an international symbol of resistance to apartheid. She too was jailed for her role in opposing white minority rule.

To her supporters, she became known affectionately as "Mother of the Nation". But Mrs Madikizela-Mandela also found herself mired in scandal for decades. She was accused of conducting a virtual reign of terror in parts of Soweto by other members of the ANC in the late 1980s, and in 2003 she was convicted of fraud.

NYSC / "Nigeria Is A Joke" - Newly Discharged Beautiful Corp Member Rants by exlinkleads(f): 1:46pm On Apr 14, 2018
A recently discharged National Youth Service Corps member, Claudia Ayodele, has revealed her less than delightful experience during her service year. Ayodele, who passed out on Thursday, took to her Instagram handle in two separate posts to share her frustrations, even as she highlighted some of the positive parts of her service year.

She started off by noting how she couldn’t wait to get out of her “horrible government uniform” and how she would not be showing off her NYSC certificate. In a seperate but longer post, which she titled, ‘A brief recap’, Ayodele shared how often she thought about quitting the service but kept reminding herself of the reason she registered for the programme in the first place. See her caption, which has since gone viral, below:

“A brief recap Honestly the last 11 months were not a joke. I don’t know how many times I wanted to literally quit NYSC but I kept reminding myself why I actually started .. Why? Because you just never know when Nigerians want to make your life miserable in the future. On the positive note, I learnt a lot about the way of life in this country ..

Got to experience going to a state without an airport in its near vicinity. Got to experience what it’s like to be in the deepest jungle bush where even google maps imaging cannot capture the road. Got to experience how deeply ingrained corruption and indiscipline is in Nigerians from young to old. Got to experience how simple queueing, is not possible… Over and over again .. Respect rarely exists. Humility rarely exists. Shame equally rarely exists. Self-Interest exists. Before anyone gets hurt by this finding, honestly there’s a big difference between poor and middle class not to talk of upper class ..

They say Nigeria has a high number of graduates, I say Nigeria has a high number of graduates who were not taught quality education and lack basic common sense .. They say the problem with Nigeria is it’s old leaders, I say Nigeria faces an even bigger problem when the young already show traits of the older generation clinging on to power .. For the first time I got to fully interact with Nigerians from all walks of life and it has been a truly humbling experience.

I am grateful to those who pushed me to do NYSC because now I know up until a year ago, I lived in a bubble when it came to ‘knowing’ my country.”

Family / Poverty Made Me Faithful To My Wife - Ghanaian Man To CNN Journalist, Amanpour by exlinkleads(f): 10:03am On Apr 14, 2018
Poverty Made Me Faithful To My Wife - Ghanaian Man To CNN Journalist, Christiane Amanpour

Truth be told, if 80% of African men will say the truth about their marriage and faithfulness to their wives, their statement will almost always be: poverty is the reason why am faithful to my wife".

Renowned war, crime and romance book writer, Robert Greene said in one of his books and I quote: Men marry women they want when they are rich but marry women they need when they are poor. This is the true nature of a human being especially the men in our society, though some chose to hide it just for peace and love to rain.

But this Ghanaian has taken the bull by the horn as he declared in an exclusive interview with CNN journalist, Christiane Amanpour and said he is faithful to his wife because he is poor. The 60-year-old journalist has toured Berlin, Beirut, New Delhi, and Accra in Ghana to gather amazing stories about love and sex.

Speaking to the Cut.com Amanpour revealed that "the six-part series about love and sex around the world. It’s mostly done through women’s and young girls’ perspectives, but it’s really a very unusual and somewhat unprecedented look at the complexity of sex, intimacy, partnership, and motherhood”.

In Ghana, she interviewed a local who revealed that “he is married to one wife and he doesn’t cheat because he was poor when they got married. We understand each other. So when I have money, I let them know today I have money. Sandra, let’s share this money. Rich men cheat because when you are rich you can decide to choose any woman you want. But I am a poor person. I have to stay with one lady”.

The CNN journalist spent some time with Ghanaian actress, Moesha Boduong who disclosed that “Ghana’s economy is such that as a woman, …you need someone to take care of you; you can’t make enough money as a woman here”.

Politics / Welcome Message On Georgia Sign Post Reads, We Will Kill You If You Kill Someone by exlinkleads(f): 2:54pm On Apr 07, 2018
rather strange and unconventional welcome sign greets visitors in western Georgia. It stands suitably outside the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, only a stone’s throw from the Alabama border, addressing would-be criminals and warning them not to cross the locals.

It reads in full..

“Welcome to Harris County, Georgia,” it reads, sarcastically adding: “Our citizens have concealed weapons. If you kill someone, we might kill you back. We have ONE jail and 356 cemeteries. Enjoy your stay! -Sheriff Mike Jolley.”

The sheriff said it’s his saucy way of welcoming people to his county while, at the same time, warning them that a number of the citizens exercise their right to bear arms. “If you come and put someone’s life in danger in Harris County, you could stand the risk of being put in danger yourself,” he told The Washington Post.

Pets / Dog Sentenced To Death In Germany For Killing His Owner And Son by exlinkleads(f): 8:20am On Apr 07, 2018
Animal experts have said "no matter how friendly one is with his pet, be cautious because one day, they can lose it". A Staffordshire Terrier mixed-breed dog has been to death after autopsy results on Friday confirmed it mauled its owners to death in the German city of Hanover.

The incident, which shocked Germany and prompted a debate about the rules of dog ownership, saw a 52-year-old woman and her 27-year-old son die as the result of the attack in their apartment.

Fire rescue workers captured the dog when they broke into the flat after being alerted by the woman’s daughter late Tuesday. The daughter contacted authorities after she couldn’t reach either family member and spotted the lifeless body of her brother through the window of the flat.

Neighbours said that the man was seriously ill and had been so since childhood. His mother was apparently a wheelchair user. The dog, named Chico, is in an animal shelter in the nearby town of Langenhagen and will be euthanised (killed).

Politics / Buhari Said Fuel Subsidy Is A Scam Yet He Pays $1.4 Trillion On Subsidy - Omokri by exlinkleads(f): 8:21pm On Apr 06, 2018
Buhari Said Fuel Subsidy Is A Scam, Kachukwu Admits FG Pays $1.4 Trillion On Subsidy - Reno Omokri

The APC administration have vehemently denied the existence of fuel subsidy during their time as opposition party and even after they took over power from PDP in 2015. They even said it was a scam.

The APC-led administration stylishly introduced the subsidy again and kept denying its existence and also increased the fuel from N85 to N145. Well, the minister for state on petroleum has finally admitted straight up that the Nigerian government is spending not less than $1.4 trillion annually on fuel subsidy.

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri have however mocked the federal government as well as Nigerians via his Twitter handle and inquired if Nigerians are fine with what is happening.

See tweet below...

Kachikwu has admitted that the Buhari administration is paying ₦1.4 trillion per annum for subsidy (which is even more than the Jonathan administration they complained about). Now I ask you, are you getting fuel to buy at affordable prices like you were during the Jonathan govt?

Buhari said subsidy was a scam and doubled the cost of fuel from the ₦87 that Jonathan left it to ₦145 today. Now they are paying the same ‘scam’ subsidy of ₦1.4 trillion yet you still cant get fuel regularly and when you do you actually pay more than the ₦145 official price.

FFK Reacts To Buhari's Approval Of $1Billion To Acquire Weapons To Fight Boko Haram

In n another tweet, after calling Kogi deState Governor, Yahaya Bello a "Boy" and a "useful idiot", the former aviation minister and senior advocate of Nigeria, Chief Femi Fani Kayode has reacted to the approval of $1billion by president Buhari for acquiring weapons to fight boko haram.

Chief Kayode believe the money is not set out to acquire any weapons, rather he believes the fund will be for the campaign and re-election of the president for 2nd term.

See his tweet below....

It is common knowledge, and I wrote it at the time, that Dapchi had one purpose: it was stage-managed by the govt. to justify the release of yet another $1 billon dollars to "fight Boko Haram". Truth is the money will be used, not for BH, but to fund Buhari's 2019 re-election campaign.
