Let me have your number.
saintjoel: There is no way any agent will know the mind of every car dealer in Cotonou unless he/she is a wizard/witch and what is applicable to customer A isn't applicable to customer B.

For those who have been to Cotonou to purchase cars before, you may have noticed that all we give you are asking prices+expenses+custom duty. Many questions have been raised and we'll like to clarify them.

Let's use a benz 230(2000) as an example.

The asking price is 700K+220K(custom duty).

Now,everyone knows that in Cotonou, there are certain monies you've to pay to bring the car out from the park to the border and it's a standard charge of 165K irrespective of year.

Now,let's assume you pay 700K in cotonou,it's going to be 700-165K=535K(which is the actual purchase price).

Now let's assume you've a budget of 800K,all you need to do is so simple, deduct 220K(custom duty in Nigeria) from 800K,we have 580K left.

580K-165K=415K.

415K is your bargaining price when you come into Cotonou, this is what you offer the dealers.

If any agent tells you that you can get a car for 350K from Cotonou,it's practically a lie cos at least you'll spend 70K smuggling the car into Nigeria.

350K-70K=280K

Now according to our calculation,if we deduct 165K from 280K,we have 115K(345K CFA).Which good car can you purchase at that price.

All they do is trick you into Cotonou with your 350K cos they know greed is a factor which comes into play when it comes to some Nigerians, after you spend the 350K,your car is stuck in the parks because they'll keep demanding money for duty clearance and smuggling fee, before you know it,your car spends weeks in the bush before getting to your doorstep.

Please note that the 165K is a mandatory charge in cotonou but the beauty of it is that even when you fix it in your budget,if you're a good bargainer, you'll get quality cars.

Which one is the ordinary C class?
smartchoice: as a beginner I believe the ordinary C class will do you good...then from there you can start moving ahead!
Car Talk › Re: Mercedes Benz Thread by Eyop: 9:56am On Sep 16, 2013
@ Trac we are here to learn because that's the reason we all are here to gather some experience and soonest i will be purchasing a C class because that has always been my choice either the 2005 or the 2006. Please respond to Emperoh so myself can as well learn from your comments. Thank you.
Trac: With all due respect, I won't snatch this from Au.Hansen. It will only make me childish and the main point will never be addressed to avoid further occurrences. I'll humbly take the comments as being egotistical plus the name-calls and move on. Being thread-territorial must indeed be fulfilling.

Eagle child i quite agree with you that the infinity is a luxury brand just like Lexus which is the luxury brand of Toyota. Yes not all Toyota models are reliable but in the Nija general sense Toyota happens to be the favorite choice because you can find mechanics and parts readily available.
eaglechild: Infiniti is made by nissan i agree, but i believe you know it's a luxury brand.
Besides not all models of toyota are more reliable/durable than their nissan counterparts.
Nissan pathfinder for example is a very reliable SUV
Factor in our local mechanics who would ruin anything that is not a camry or corolla.

It all depends on driving habit. My sister's late Boss bought the same 2004 infinity FX 35 that you are talking about 2yrs ago. He traveled with it from Abuja to UYO and he arrived safely but on his return back from his trip he had an accident at Lokoja and according to the information passed by those around the scene,he was on top speed & trying to avoid a porthole and that was it. The ride was a complete right off. SUV's are not really race vehicles but here in Nija we abuse it.
I agree With u on most of ur points , but the big question remains 'will u have trust in ur 4runner †̥σ Avoid a pothole @ highway speeds ? Without landing in ∂ bush that is ... ℓ☺ℓ
You didn't ev en mention what year of manufacture for both cars. As for me,forget about the infinity if your friend has the money to buy the 4runner,let him go for the 2010 Toyota 4runner limited edition and he will be glad he did. You cannot compare a Nissan to a Toyota in terms of durability. However SUV is not meant for race oh

Welcome back Trac, I have long been awaiting your arrival. I asked a question about the 2007 Mercedes CLS 350. What do you have to say about this car?
Trac: If you don't mind me asking: why do you want to replace it? Your best choice is overhauling it. The peace of mind is there and you are certain of the intensity of effectiveness.

Kalan,

I have been following this thread and the issues Oyewole addressed here, comments made by others and the response made by inspired. Sincerely you have said it all because you are the only one that has carefully analysed the situation and given the right approach to trash out the bad blood. I hope this will be laid to rest finally. Thank you once again.
kalan: Ity Dee: I believe the customer has a right to protest poor customer service. OYEWOLE123 steps to deal with this without coming out to the forum, but as he claimed, Inspired ignored his calls and mails[Inspired is a nice person, but he should work on his customer service-i have encountered this too SEVERALLY].

However, moving forward, a good name is as good as CAPITAL in business.

@INSPIRED,

I know business is booming, but dont treat your customers with neglect. i know its difficult, but you need to find a way round this reoccurring. Build systems ard ur business. If u have to hire a Customer Rep, pls do, at least to pick ur calls and respond to emails- there is nothing as good as updates.

I love what Oyewole did, he exposed a major problem with small businesses in this country-AFTER SALES SUPPORT. This is the number one business killer.

Mr Oyewole123, on behalf of my friend-Inspire, we tender our apologies.
Inspire is a great guy, just that he has too many woods in the fire at the same time.

Hope lessons av been learnt.

lets move forward...please

Car Talk › Re: Cotonou Car Purchase Issues. by Eyop: 9:57pm On Sep 04, 2013
Saintjoel,

Good that you are a customs licensed agent in seme but having a masters in business administration doesn't mean that the system of purchasing a car in Cotonou will but rather it will be a bit proffesional due to your level of education. Again let us await news from buyers about their experience in the Cotonou style of doing Business and analyse if it is better to do Business in cotonou or not. I happy that you mentioned in your last statement that the thread was to proof that Business at the border is unlike before meaning that it was hell going through that route except now that you want to proof a point and in the course of doing that, you bring in your marketing skills
.
saintjoel: Sir,I clearly stated at the beginning that I am a custom licensed agent in seme and also have years of experience coupled with a masters in business administration.
That aside,if you check my profile on nairaland you can see I've a proven trach record of bringing in cars from cotonou but tHat aside,I will still tell you that if you've a good agent who is what his onions, you don't and will not have issues with what you've purchased in cotonou.
I started this post because we had a discussion in the office about customers who are scared of buying vehicles from cotonou and ways of proving to them that business at the border is unlike before.
Car Talk › Re: Cotonou Car Purchase Issues. by Eyop: 8:59pm On Sep 04, 2013
Saint joel, I am not misquoting you and thank God you agree and accept that Cotonou purchases is 50:50. Well on the issue of holding the agent responsible should incase there's a missing parts in easier said than done and most times that mission may not be 100% accomplished because i know what am talking about, Do you think i just discussed the matter of my missing parts verbally without action? I spent almost #2million naira to purchase a car and do you think i will just take easy with the agent like that? I did all i could and at the end your vehicle will end up not being the same.

I will not argue anymore on the issue of VIN check on Cotonou purchases with you because i have tried it and it didn't work for me but may be it did for you, good and fine. Well the agents are all the same one way or the other except very few of them and may be you happen to fall under the very few i am mentioning here but like i keep saying,Cotonou deal is not it.

Finally, May be you are an Agent in Cotonou and that's why you are trying to justify yourself. Lets hear the Buyers experience and conclude if it is safe or not. The Agents will always put it the right way to clear doubts and put hope on future buyers but me being a regular buyer,i have shared my experience and it's a no no no Business except clients insist then i will let them know before proceeding.
saintjoel: Sir,please I wouldn't want you to misqoute my post and yes,we all agree buying from cotonou is 50:50.

If you as the customer has checked the vehicle out and there are parts missing,I'll still state categorically that you need to hold your agent responsible.I know an elderly agent who had to go back to Cotonou to buy an 03 toyota matrix for his client just because he got hit by a bus along agbara expressway. The responsibility falls on your agent to check and verify that everything in your car is attached before it leaves the park, like I have said and will continue to say, your agent has to be reliable.
On the issues of VIN check, that's where technology comes into play,I don't think checking VIN info should take hours if the buyer and agent connect each other via BB or any internet ready mobile phone and they also have access to carfax.Even if your agent isn't connected to internet and you want to check carfax reports,he can be in the parks and send the VIN to you and within minutes when you have the result,he can make deposits or outright purchase.
Buying from berger isn't failproof because seriously how can any agent leave the parks without verifying that parts that are meant to be in your car are in it,only dishonest agents do it and that's why we always advice customers to check the agents track record before giving him/her any job.
Car Talk › Re: Cotonou Car Purchase Issues. by Eyop: 12:22pm On Sep 04, 2013
Saint Joel like i mentioned in my response above which you didn't respond, the issue of VIN cannot be 100% fulfilled in Cotonou purchases because if the agent sends you the VIN and pictures of the vehicle(which may not be according to your standard) in question, while trying to get a report on the vehicle, the car may have been purchased before going for it and cotonou is not at my backyard that you can just easily drive in there, depending on which border one is following(Idiroko or Seme) it is still a long distance considering the state of the roads so i have tried it severally and it didn't work. I have been purchasing cars from Cotonou for many years now and i can argue that one with you. You also mentioned about the issue of missing parts and if that happens,we should hold the agent responsible. Are you aware that there are some sensitive cars that if some parts have been removed, then it means one is in a deep shit. Suppose one buys a car in Cotonou and on arrival you notice that the Catalytic converter has been removed, lets agree that you will hold you agent responsible, will he order that one for you and have it replaced? It is better if it's body parts but mechanical parts is something that can give one hypertension.

In Berger 80% of cars sold there are Cotonou cars so to me it is better to spend an additional #50,000 to #100,00 to buy from Berger after you have done all the necessary checks than to go to Cotonou. I do advice clients that the best bet is to pre-order your car from the United States or Europe and wait for a month and be satisfied provided you have a reliable person to do that for you because you will get all the information there before the payment is made except if one chooses to get a salvage title vehicle that will be his or her choice.

I bought a 2007 Toyota Matrix XR from Cotonou some months ago and on arrival the Catalytic converter was removed, the spare tyre was no longer there, jack rod and remote was also not available again and after the agent accepted to pay for the stolen items which the market price for the Catalytic converter in Ladipo was #15,000 for the cut and weld type, the remote/programming was #7000,spare tyre #4000 but i then decided to buy the complete one for #35,000 because i didn't want anything like cut and weld for a 2007 car but to my suprise that didn't work because it was a worked one(Ladipo guys and their gimmicks)and not the "follow come" as they say without tampering with it. I ended up driving the car without a Catalytic converter with a louder exaust and bought the other parts myself because it cost about over #100,000 to order that from the USA.

It was hell for me because i went through a lot trying to fix the car before travelling with it to Abuja. So if it is some other German cars that immediately such items are removed, you can't drive the car so what will happen? The agent i used was the same i have been using for my car purchases and even have several others too that i use so my advice to anyone is that Cotonou business is 50:50 whether you have a reliable agent or not. I am not saying you cannot transact successfully in Cotonou but it is 50;50. Thank you
saintjoel: I'm going to use this post as a summary to all posts.

Like I've said in all my posts, what you need is a credible agent who actually knows what he/she is doing.

On the issue of prices, even when cars cost almost the same as cars sold in Lagos, you have you various choices/options to pick from.I have even seen occasions and I have phone numbers of customers you can call who will tell you they've bought cars which are 100-300K lesser than what you can obtain in Lagos.
On the issue of missing parts,it still points to the agent. If any part goes missing in your car/jeep before entry intop Nigeria, you've to hold you agent responsible.Purchase in Cotonou and custom duty clearance shouldn't take more than 48hrs,that's if the car is declared in abstensia to customs, which means as you're paying for your car in cotonou, you can pay for your custom duty papers and your agent start the processing a day earlier,so that when your car is coming out of the parks the custom duty is ready,I also have evidences.
On the issue of VIN,if you've interest in purchasing a vehicle from cotonou, you may tell your agent to supply you with pictures and VIN of the cars you need which you can check at your leisure time,if you're satisfied with any car,you give him the authorisation to buy.So even with pictures, you can see if any part is missing cos they're times when parts are removed to prevent theft,so he has to show evidence that the parts are available.

If any agent tells you that your vehicle may take five or days to get to Nigeria,it means there is something fishy,he is trying to smuggle it across the border, unless if there are public holidays in Cotonou or network disruptions in customs office.
Buying from Cotonou is by choice,it can only be done when you've a good and credible agent watching your back.
On the issue of car prices, many times when you as the customer enters a one chance bus in cotonou,it means you must have believed an agent who told you that you can get cars for next to nothing in cotonou,if you want to buy a grade one car,you need to spend money.I've customers who are buying even 2012/2011/2012 cars and they have no issues with them.
Imagine you're thrown in a park which covers almost 50hectares and you still have 4-5parks+thousands of car dealers, you have choices to make when you want to pick a car,I have evidences of a client who brought 20 golf3 cars for his transport company in katsina.

With these,I aslo hope that I've managed to clear some issues again.
Car Talk › Re: Cotonou Car Purchase Issues. by Eyop: 6:15pm On Sep 03, 2013
Nice topic. I have bought several cars from Cotonou and i am always present to facilitate the transaction. My problem with Cotonou purchase is that you can't know the vehicle history of the car you are buying. Some of the cars there already have their mileage tampered, accident issues because it is not clearly stated if the car is a clear title or salvage title vehicle. The issue of getting Carfax report via Cotonou would be some how stressful because may be while trying to get a report on that car, someone else will be interested in the same vehicle and pay for it.

My own opinion is that Cotonou purchase is 50:50.

All the models you mentioned are good. The C230 is a 4 cylinder engine while the others are 6 Cylinder engine. In terms of fuel economy the C230 kompressor will have it because it's a 4 cylinder and it does what the 6 cylinder will do in terms of speed and fuel consumption will be lower compared to the C240 and C320. If you go through the response from AU.HANSON,he has mentioned that the KOMPRESSORS isn't a problem because it doesn't cost much to repair should incase it goes bad. So in conclusion,i will advice you go for the 2003 C230 if it is in the area fuel economy if not you can go for the naturally aspirated engine.

Car Talk › Re: Mercedes Benz Thread by Eyop: 9:33am On Aug 02, 2013
Thanks au.hanson, However does it mean that we should continue fueling our cars with the regular unleaded fuel we have in the country until we notice a lag then we add the thinners to the fuel tank. We should not just wait until we notice a lag before adding the thinners to the fuel tank. There should be a preventive measures to that effect. The car requires premium unleaded fuel and each time we are filling up the tank it supposed to be a premium gas.

So what should be the required quantity that should be added to the fuel tank when filling up? when using Octane booster it is required we pour 1 litre of it to the fuel tank (depending on tank capacity) to boost the Octane level so in the case of the thinner, should it be the same?
Well i thought over these more than you do 6 years ago untill i finally decided to experiment on this when ever i felt the lag in my performance. Many would would say so much against this, but how many have actually spoken form their experimental experience observed over time? non, its either follow follow or just kinda condemn it without really trying out because it sounds bad; thinner in fuel tank? Thnks God, today i have been able to stumble into some people both online and locally who actually uses it with testimonies

I don't know who to believe, whether the long standing season techy or theoritical literature without experimentation. I listen to self acclaim gurus but i experiment all my test, i dnt believe hypothesis just straight like taht because it comes from a guru.I have experimented this for 6 years, my engine never got damaged but always got better than before; my C class got better than when i first bought it before last year but yet to get to the level of my Benz 190 that is excellence. I have use it for 6 years; He does it for 30 years. So whose testimony do you believe? It is safe to clean your catalytic converter by pouring some lacquer thinner in your gas tank and running the engine for about 150 miles as Scotty Kilmer suggests in this video watch his video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5icTmYItwiE

Toluene and Xylene are the main ingredient in your octaine booster where you pay so much for but these are just some of the ingredients in thinner which you pay so little for.
http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1876969

Listen to this from an unbiased chemical expert(not auto technician this time) "Just to clear some things up. I have a degree in chemistry and a long time ago worked in the paint industry with solvents.

Acetone is what is called a ketone. It has a double bonded oxygen. Along with esters it is a good solvent for many oxygen containing materials. Oxygen tends to be grabby about electrons and pulls them away from the other atoms creating positive and negative parts of the molecule creating what is called polarity.

Lacquer thinners are a blend of ketones, esters, aromatics and maybe alcohols. Aromatics, benzine, toluene, xylene, etc. have a ring structure the electrons are free to move around it. Alcohols have oxygen too, but tend to be too polar to dissolve some things.

The basic rule is that like dissolves like. That also applies to crosslinked material such as rubber that swell rather than dissolves. Octane has no oxygen or ring structure. Thus it is a poor solvent for anything with oxygen or ring structures in it. Add acetone or other oxygen containing materials, and it will dissolve or swell more materials. Expose non polar material to the aromatics, and they will dissolve or swell them. However, the electrons in aromatics can be pulled to one end by polar materials becoming polar and dissolving or swelling them.

Many types of rubber are very non polar and will swell if exposed to gasoline or rubber. Acetone has little effect on such rubber. I used to use it to clean paint resin off gum rubber tubing. It might not even swell brake parts. You can make rubber resist gasoline and oil by adding polar materials, nitrogen, chlorine, sulphate, or silicone. Silicone isn't so polar, more just like nothing else. So you add acetone and lacquer thinner to your gasoline, exactly what happens will depend on how much, what is in the lacquer thinner, and the grades of rubber in your fuel system."
My brother that's the same question i keep asking myself. However it all depends on the chemical contents in the thinner that makes it work like the Octane boosters but the measurement really matters a lot. I had already gone through the link you displayed in regards to Octane booster. Just forget about that one because that was also a marketing strategy to sell his product even though it was some how informative. I have gone through a lot of information posted online in regards to the Octane boosters i.e if they are really worth it. Some people mentioned that it is waste of money that they do not work while some mentioned that they only experienced a little change from their usual experience.

Yeah i have taken the decision to stick with the 2005 Mercedes C230 Kompressor. The 2007 is not economical at all so let me just stick with the 2005. However i asked a question which no one has done justice to it. It's on the issue of the fuel. The 2005 Mercedes C230 requires premium unleaded fuel but in Nigeria it's the regular unleaded fuel that we have and the octane is just 90RON while the car requires a minimum of 91RON. So can you contribute to that?
Sorry i'm late already, have been very very busy with program codes, but i'm happy that Gee has already done justice to these questions just like i told you earlier on.

However, for my advice, just like i told you before, it should all base on your preference, whether you like performance glued with economy, or whether you are ok with just ordinary naturally aspirated engines? As for me, i dnt mind the price i would pay for those superchargers(after all its no more big deal these days to fix them), i need my Benz to be a Benz on the road(especially higways and freeways) all way round, no rival vehicle should dare my machine
Does anyone here know if Octane booster is a must for a 2005 Mercedes C230 Kompressor. In Nigeria i guess our octane level in our fuel is 90 RON while the car requires a premium unleaded fuel with a higher Octane level. Though the Nigerian fuel is unleaded but the Octane level is low. Does this have any effect on the carhuh

You should also understand that most filling stations in Nigeria the pump at the filling stations have been tampered and as such 1 Litre isn't 1 Litre. Also another factor might be that the additional litres is channelled to reserve.
danadam: I noticed the same thing with my W203. manual indicates 62.01 liters but I unusually have to take more than that at the gas station.

Gee2728: the 1.8 or 2.5L has nothing 2 do with the car weight its just the cubic liter capacity of the engine. Since the 230K has small 1.8L hence the need 2 bolt a supercharger(kompressor) to it 2 give it a similar performance as to the 2006 C230 naturally aspirated. And about ur 160km/h matrix chasing a W203, bro 4get it cos even my W202 C230Kompressor can easy hit 230km/h on a streach from kaduna 2 abuja without trying 2 hard. About the engine sound, its a hum dat tells u the car wants 2 be driven hard its not noise its simply loud sweet music. The bottom line is these kompressor engine are simply meant 2 be driven hard and loud.
Gee i was reading an article on Benz. Are all the w203 Kompressors powered with the M271 engine? Do you have an idea if the 2005 C230 Kompressor was equipped with the M271 engine

if you love Kompressor go for it, don't be scared of the superchargers, Our boys are up to it , its a very cheap thing to fix overhere(i mean in Nigeria) If you leave in Nigeria, fixing superchargers shouldnt be a problem, its as affordable as any other components of a benz..needless to spend dollars to order expensive components abroad , boys can do it for you at no cost. Infact, there are things you would fix in benz that are far costlier than the superchargers, so let no one be scared of the very thing that gives you the fun of a benz.

Kompressors are 'machines' that is why they are not quite. "Machines" are not meant to be silence..I have always relive my experience with my neighbour's 2002 w203 benz c200 Kompressor..Its sporty small but mighty; it 4 cylinder engine amazes me;i never expected such performance from a 4 cylinder engine; it actually felt like an 8 cylinder machine but with the cost of a 4 cylinder consumption;what if it were a 6 cylinder machine? what an affordable machine..This is an affordable formular 1 budget car. What makes formular one cars exiting? It's the sporty notes that comes from either the exhaust pipe or the engine(Kompressors in this context is my own version of formular one car, or rather,it's the cheapest machine that budgeted income can afford at her price. Check out the sound of those unaffordable cars like:sls, cls,Mclaren Benzes,BMW M6, M3, lamborghini, bugatti veyron, ferrari, porsche, check out power bykes, even compact suv/cross overs like infinity fx , murano etc. what do u observe in their sound? Performance vehicle are not meant to be silence whisper

The factor here should be your preference, if you prefer the other factors of benz other than performance, afterall you ain't going to go to mini road contest like youngboss, then go for the naturally aspirated engine else the Kompressor, if it is just because of the repairs of the superchargers.

The C32 AMG is a supercharge engine 3.2 L (3199 cc) M112 E32, fitted with a helical twin-screw supercharger,a Kompressor engine smaller than that of the c36 AMG with M104 3.6L I6 engine, that is capable of making upto 60mph in 4.5 seconds, when reviewed by AutoCar on June 27, 2001, beating the BMW M3 and the Porsche 911.

I dont go by peoples opinion but by what triggers me after comparing the prices i would have to pay, else i wouldnt have gone in for benz for peoples opinion that surround me, but then thats the car that tickles my fancy and makes me want to always travel, thats the car that makes me survive my bad street, thats the car that makes me have fun on the wheels. How i wish i had a 4 cylinder w203 kompressor too..blending fuel economy with performance.
Have u ever ask them why you shouldnt go for kompressor? - because someone said it; because they cant imagine it could be fix just like any other components at affordable price; sometimes just mere myth; just like it was siad , dont buy 190 injection system but carburrator; dnt buy automatic u wont be able to maintain it; dnt buy c class because it has electrical problems( are people wt low budget not driving c class today?)Believe me, Superchargers are becoming cheaper to fix each day in Nigeria..When i'll buy mine , i'll be changing that kompressor clutch myself.

Yes the consumption may have little variation, but much difference in multiple usage

2005 and 2006 is just a year difference, but that notwithstanding, if 2005 is cleaner and has good maintenance history and mileage than 2006 why not go for it else 2006
Thanks bros for the detail explanation about the ride and for trying to make me understand that the Kompressors can be fixed here at no cost. Well any of them is still good and fine for me but an average Nigerian will prefer a ride with good MPG myself inclusive. I am a traveler and most times i will be travelling with the car when i get it and it's not just a short distance but at-least like 8hrs trip(Lagos to Abuja,Lagos to Uyo). I asked a fellow nairaland that owns the 2005 C230 kompressor about the car handling and he says it is fantastic and he has not experienced any issues since he bought it almost 2 years now but all he does is to do the normal service because the ride tells you when it is due for service and he gets his parts directly from the United States.

He confirms that Kompressor is delightfully noisy compared to the 2006 C230 which is the naturally aspirated engine that is quiet(that's what i need to understand). That's what i do not understand by him saying "delightfully noisy" even though he's not the only one that has mentioned that but i got same information on Benz USA forum when they were comparing the both cars. I have never driven a Kompressor and as such cannot know the issue of being delightfully noisy. Is there any regular car that you can compare to this? Also are you trying to tell me that the 2005 C230 1.8L Kompressor will be faster than the 2006 C230 2.5L V6 engine? So are you trying to tell me that the sound of CLS 350 is like that of a Kompressor because you listed some cars and SLS,CLS inclusive.

If i see a Kompressor that is super clean than the 2006 C230 i will gladly pick that one. Another thing to consider now is the bad roads because it seems like the C230 is low to the ground level. My brother C230 is a fantastic ride and have always love the car. When i was travelling to Abuja by April with a 2007 Toyota Matrix XR at a speed of 160 the w203 C230 passed me like child's play and all effort to meet up proved abortive. The guy that was with me warned me seriously not to try it or i burst my engine grin. I just want to know when people keep saying delightfully noisy can you be more explanatory on this please? Also the 2005 C230 Kompressor is 1.8L while the 2006 C230 is 2.5L,does it mean that weight of the 2006 is more than the 2005? Just need some clarifications here bros. Thanks
Hello Gee,
pls permit me to say this, non car enthusiast would not like it; If there is any engine in benz i shld like to own now, it's the compressor engine; i have ecstasy while engaging it to action; it feels too wonderful to consider it wear and tear nature(besides, it's relatively cheap to replace over here, the only components of it that would always go bad after a very long time is the cheap kompressor clutch. i give gurus to whoever introduce this fits in Benz; not even the IVTEC; nor the turbo can compare to it). Kompressor super chargers can achieve any fits of acceleration with the slightest fuel consumption any naturally aspirated engine could do; not even the BMW can beat this contest(yungbose lets contest this); You can't match a w203 v6 naturally aspirated engine to that of v4 kompressor engine; the later is formular 1; trust me.. try it and you'll see that; is it the sharpness; is it the ability to finish your speedometer if you have the mind; its worth the tear and wear. If you buy a kompressor engine , just know you have bought a road conqueror with good mpg, then have a spare super charger, when that of your engine goes bad replace it with the spare, then change the clutch of the bad one and keep again as spare or backup..it takes more than 4 years for it to wear out depending on your driving habit.

If you are after performance , the very reason you bought Benz, why be afraid of kompressor engine or superchargers. I beg to differ.. If you have tested the dynamics of a Kompressor engine then you have tested benz performance to its fullest, no rival yet, pls tell me car enthusiast, if there is any that i dnt know yet

However, this is my personal preference.

Hello Eyop, sometimes these things linger because the technician does not understand the problem at stake, hence in their fit to solve what they dont know, they end up fidgeting with so many things and end up destroying things that wasn't faulty rendering the car as problematic for you.

Let me tell you my personal exeperince in my recent travelling from PH to Calabar and to Eket from Calabar in my w202 Benz C class. The road along Eleme junction in Ph is bad, and unfortunately i was left with no other option than to swimm that river but with prayers, i got to Calabar quite alright and did all the running around to Eket , to Ibeno in Akwa Ibom and back to Calabar in Cross River state like 2 rounds and parked the car and then use public trans to enter Ph for an emergency job and then back to Calabar to finish my escapade and return to my base in PH. unfortunately, my car refuse to start wt a strange sound like without any engagement in the engine, from my maintenance history, i knew nothing could have been wrong(cos i fix my car myself most part and pay attention to every detail). this one was beyond me, i call 2 mechanic, they both say timing belt, but i ignore both of them because i know that was impossible. i was directed to one expert who came and tow the vehicle with his towing van on sunday evening for them to work on it on monday. By Monday morning, before i could get there, i saw the vehicle steaming smoothly with this guy on it, he said some dirts insulated my earth wires and my ecu short it off, so he had to clean them up , after wards the car crank and came alive. If i had let the previous mechanics handle my car according to their diagnoses, they could have messed my engine and added more problem to it, then in a fit to jumpstart the engine, they could have tried all sort of gimmicks, hence would have destroyed a lot of things as the timing belt wasn't the culprit here. Inshort , nothing was wrong with it..just that little water i swam some days back that formed the insulation on the wires and short off my engine after they were dried up.
Well said Hanson but my 1st question is are you aware that the naturally aspirated engine of the C230 is quieter than the Kompressor engine? I agree with you on the issue of mechanics because an inexperience mechanic can ruin it all for you and that's the reason why one must be careful before handing over your car for repairs or servicing. I have always been a lover of the mercedes in all aspect because of its durability and handling most especially when embarking on a long trip. I want to pre-order a mercedes benz from the United States and i was initially looking at 2005 C230 Kompressor but after i heard so many stories that the Kompressor is a wear item and it cost thousands to order a new one from the United States after it gets bad.

So apart from the fact that the 2006 C230 is a newer car compared to the 2005 C230 Kompressor,i was advised by the mechanics to stay away from the superchargers and even some car gurus on nairaland like Trac even mentioned same on some of their responses and that's the reason why i then concentrated on naturally aspirated models like the 2006 and 2007 but i do not like the 2007 because of the wheels as it is not as fashionable as the 2005 and 2006.

The 2008 C300 is as well nice but the price to land here is above my budget. The difference in consumption of fuel between the both cars isn't easily noticeable. 2005: 23 city while 29 Highway and 2006: 21 city while 27 Highway. I guess you have a lot of experience with the Benz so what will you be your advice now?

nathdim: I believe u are more dan 5.9million only a fool will buy a car of 3.5m in Nigeria if his capital is nt more dan 10 to 15million
My brother don't say that. It all depends on the kind of Business you do that will warrant you to buy a car of 3.5million when you have like 7 million in the account. That car can as well fetch you that same amount.

Thanks very much Gee2728 for the advice. The 2005 and 2006 C230 carries same body and features apart from the change in Engine and some other little changes and also the fuel consumption on the 2005 C230 is economical compared to the 2006 but all the same i still prefer the 2006(it is quieter than the Kompressor engine)though the 2007 was also of interest to me but i do not like the wheels of the 2007 so that's why i choose the 2006. I can never buy a vehicle with a check engine light or any other warning light because i have had a terrible experience with a 2007 Toyota Matrix XR that i bought in cotonou last year and i can never venture into that anymore.

Once am ready to buy,i will pre-order directly from USA after am satisfied with the maintenance history of the vehicle. Another wahala is the bad roads in Nigeria and you know the car is low to the ground level even though it is very pleasurable to drive...

Gee2728: I drive a 2000 C230 kompressor, from my little experience I'll suggest u go 4 the naturally asperated 2006 C230 which I bliv is a V6 so u dnt have 2 bother urselfe with turbo charging issues of the C230K.aside the brake disc and pad then maybe Mass air flow meter for the C230K both cars are not heavy cost 2 maint. Pls just make sure u dnt buy a car with check engine lights ON or ESP/BAS. Make sure its fault free there's no such things as a small fault in this german machines. But honestly with each year go by the quality of mercedes built keeps droping. My over 20yrs W202 car still has its leather covering as if it was made 2 weeks ago both some of this W204 hav seats that's I worn out already I guess its profit b4 quality now.
