Does this mean that no Nigerian has ever committed suicide ?
Yes, because there is not one Nigerian person that can hurt themselves intentionally. In fact Nigerian people are physically incapable of causing harm to themselves, it's a medical fact.

A lot of Some people in the West go into debt after weddings right? But others may marry at a reception. The Igbo do not have one consciousness and neither those any other ethnic group.

My understanding is she flew to Owerri to unite with her dad and extended family. This is a 42 year old woman that has one way or the other been abandoned by her biologically parents. Reasonable people would have just welcomed her and allowed her to get to know her people and even her culture, not tell her part of her existence is inadequate because of some culture that she did not grow up in and insist she must perform the culture. It is fine if she is the one volunteering, but it is crude to impose on her and she can not refuse without appearing rude.

I would not be surprised if some reetarded monarch decides to give her chieftancy title soon.
How, from a few characters on the screen, do you know exactly what went on with her and her family? Where did you get the idea that anything was imposed on her or even the description of the way she reacted? You went on to describe how she reactedhuh! If the woman wants to embrace Igbo culture her family would obviously tell her about bride prices, especially as she's reuniting with her dad!

I am not complaining about the bride price. I am complaining about the uncouth act and crude mentality of imposing on a stranger (that will not want to be rude by refusing) to perform a tradition that is strange to her all because of some blood she has not benefitted from.
Mehn, are you Stacie Turner? What kind of witch argument is this? Stacie Turner flew all the way to Owerre with her kids to unite with what she considers her dad and what she considers her extended family. She does not consider them strangers and she wants to become familiar with the Igbo culture which she is interested in. Is that the problem? Some people pay 500 naira bride price, why are you getting angry over the issue of somebody else that they themselves are not complicating? You think somebody would fly from the United States to Owerre and re-do their whole wedding because their long lost biological father pressured them to? The woman is happy, go and rest. Just trying hard to find a negative. undecided

CultureRe: Black Celebrities, What African peoples could they be from? by ezeagu(op): 3:20am On Dec 10, 2010
MzDarkSkin:
^^are you ok? I am not Yoruba lol.

If that is the case than we Americans, Brazilians, Puerto Ricans and Jamaicans ;etc are not African because regardless of African "law" we are a mix of different tribes. It is what it is. My ancestry stretches from Democratic Congo - Senegal as a 50% Jamaican 50% American person. So because of your "not believing in mixed African" theory despite my features and dark skin I am not African. Interesting. . .as Igbo/ Yoruba/etc as these folks look they are mixed with different tribes. This is cool to see and guess but facts are facts. We are mixed.
I don't think you understood me. When I said that you are what your father is, I mean paternal line (in some cases, like some Igbo and Akan cultures, maternal line). You are only your great great great great great great great, etc. grandfathers descendant (many names of wives are not recorded, sadly). So if your paternal line traces back to Aba, then you're an Aba girl, even if 'genetics' tells you you're 50% Irish. I didn't mean that if you're 'mixed' you can't be African, actually I meant the complete opposite. There are groups in Africa that are more mixed than most African descendants in the Caribbean and the rest, (Tuareg, Northern Sudanese, etc.) This is the reason Westerners (generally) are confused by the Northern Sudanese people who say that they are Arab even when they look like a family portrait of the Snipes family, it's a paternal identity (from despoil), that's how African ancestors maintained their communities.

Before you say that it is silly to ignore your other ancestors, understand the social and spiritual consequences in many African cultures of claiming (as in splitting yourself between) different ancestors. If you have not stuck with your maternal line (for whatever reasons, e.g abandonment by the father) or paternal line, you're not going to inherit your maternal grandfathers land, you're not going to call on your maternal grandfathers when pouring libation after his death (and calling his ancestors), and you're not going to be part of your mothers village, unless you have moved there for whatever reason. There are other things like wars, religion that play into the lineage.

Don't think that I'm saying in traditional African societies you cannot talk about your other ancestors (because its done often), you're just not considered aligned to those who have direct descendants. I'm not telling a country woman of Marcus Garvey and Bob Marley that she is not African. shocked grin Which leads me back to my point, Bob Marley was aligned to his maternal paternal line and claimed those ancestors (his mothers fathers).

I hate to burst EVERYONE'S bubbles but Nigeria is only a FRACTION of the 13 countries that contributed to the slave trade so your "predictions" are off as the probability is 1 of 13. wink
A lesson you should learn about Africans (Nigerians): There's no such thing as 'mixed' in the community, you are your father, or what you (reasonably) choose to be.

In Igbo ceremonies, breaking of kola nut is followed up with the distribution of kola nut. In doing so, it is done in alphabetical order of Igbo states e.g Anambra, Abia, Delta etc. But recently, I have noticed a trend where a title holder from Nri or any Nri native is called upon to come and pick up a lobe of kola nut before others.
Nri revival? Nice.

You can only be an expert in Ngwa but when it comes to central Igbo, listen to others because sometimes it is irritating. Chidozie is my cousins name and a very common name for that matter, I grew up in Enugu, I know central Igbo very well, studied Igbo in school. The only dialect that I find hard is Ikwerre because one can barely find them in Enugu so the way they express certain things is not familiar with many except for southern Igbos.

Enugu is the melting pot of all Igbo clans.

Anyway, peace.
'Ngwa' is closer to 'central Igbo' than any other dialect spoken in or around Enugu. The people of Enugu do not speak central Igbo as a majority, they use the well known 'Enugu' dialect that is almost as far from central Igbo as Ikwerre is. 'Debe' as 'to keep' or whatever is not central Igbo, which shows that some of these translations are wrong in the eyes of those who don't even know central Igbo. 'To keep' in central Igbo is 'dose'.

I just gave a few and you doubt it. I'll teach you Igbo when you're ready. smiley

Again, Chiedozie cannot be God kept something. The suffix "zie" means to make right.
Chidozie = God make (something) right or God right a wrong
Chimezie = God make (something) right or God right a wrong
Chiedozie = God has made (something) right.
Chiemezie = God has made (something) right.
etc

"Zie" or "Zi" as an affix means to show (in names) or to bring something down
Ziem = show me
zim = show me
Ziemuzo= show me way
Zimuzo = show me way

Zie m/Zi m ibu m bu n'isi = bring down the load I have on my head
Chiedozie is Chi e dozie (god has kept, arranged, etc). What you're saying is that Chiedozie is Chi e do zie, what on earth does Chi e 'do' zie mean? Anyway, another Igbo speaker has commented, go and call other Igbo speakers so we can see who should be teaching who.

You're using the wrong accents.
CultureRe: Igbo Names & Their Meanings by ezeagu(m): 10:44pm On Dec 02, 2010
Obiagu1:
You really don't know Igbo, I swear.
Chidelu = God wrote (my destiny); (O delu ihe na akwa m = He/She wrote something on my cloth)
Chidebelu = God kept/preserved (O debelu akwukwo ya na-enu oche = He/She kept his book on the chair)
Chidebelum/Chidelumndu = God kept me/God kept me alive.

Chiedozie = God has made (something) right.
There's no one named Chidelumndu. If there is, please link me to the person. Are you saying 'Debelu' is to keep? If you know Igbo well (or even any language) you'd know that there are several ways of saying the same thing. The only definition for Chidebelu on line is here: http://women.evenhealth.com/cgi-bin/showname.cgi?q=Chidebelu. Their other Igbo translations are accurate.

Chi e dozie = Can be 'God has made it right' and it can be 'God and kept something'. If it is Chidoziri (an actual name people use) then it is only the first definition. There is a reason that there is the Igbo name 'Chiemezie'.

You haven't told me which translations are wrong in the post before the last one.

Which ones are wrong?

Obiagu1:
Chidebelu (?) = God kept (?)
Chi debelu, God wrote it or God wrote my destiny. 'God kept' is Chiedozie.
