Billyonaire: Stup!d old Buhari, must you always speak in Hausa ? Is Hausa our lingua franca ? What do you know about governance ? If people say a PhD holder is not good enough, is it a Hausa speaking, pro-terror, revenge-seeking, aged ex-military dictator that will rescue Nigeria ? Hell No!! Nigeria needs fresh young minds. Go to hell and burn to ashes alongside 70 virgins of arabic descent.
One thing tribalism or sectional hate does to people is screwing their capacity to reason like humans, if not what is wrong speaking in your native tongue when 100% of your audience speak or understood the same language? A language so large and spoken in many African countries and has a channel in many foreign medias like the BBC, VOA etc.
You don't need PHD to run a country effectively as Jonathan version of PHD has proven and during the election you too claimed that Nigeria needs fresh air coming out Jonathan's backside, how is that going?
Now another slogan-Nigeria needs another fresh mind. For many years we use to accuse the north or being tribalistic but event has shown that we southerners has even more dangerous tribal gene than the north could ever dream of. It goes to show that you will never knew a Nigerian until you give him power. Power is in the south, so lets keep by saying every evil thing about the only opposition recognised and scares the PDP who happens to come from the north.
Like I had always say to most of you who are easily misled by conning politician, the qualification to love or support Jonathan's dangling governance is not to hate Buhari, because one day you people will know the truth and it will be too late, I think its already too late.

fortyfeet: buhari is a rebel leader and because he is a coward, he cannot openly declare it. he is too rigid, too self centered, too unorganised, too local, a social misfit and too segregational to be a politician. he rose to a general in the military and thats enough as a reward from nigeria just like OBJ who waited for the popular "IBB MISTAKE" that returned him to power. i suggest buhari should wait for another mistake that may not come in his lifetime. i submit!
I take it you found the very opposite of your listed Buhari bad traits when you cast more than one vote for Jonathan?
And look at how rosy thing are going!

Beaf: You left the topic like a fool to discuss my judgement? What is your own judgement? Are you a member of boko haram like those I am debating? Do you have oil wells you are blowing the innocent up for? Maybe you have no relations amongst those traders killed in cold blood by gunmen.
Dude, nobody rewards an id!ot like you with niceties; especially when it is ours who are the target. Face the topic if you have the brains or shut the phuck up, sit the phuck down and listen.

The word for shameless sellers of their own like you is traitor.

Respect your grey hair.
You see, this is the territory I always try to avoid because its not my thing whether its real life or unreal life like NL. I don't believe that you can't express yourself articulately without throwing the handbag. Existence or survival of Nigeria make no meaning to me because Nigeria did not train, feed me. Its not my present neither my future nor that of my children and grand children.
I don't mind you disagreeing with me as that is what discussion like this should be, but your satisfaction of calling me a fool, member of Boko Haram etc makes no sense of the issue I thought we are discussing.
What I said before which you ignored but chose to abuse me was this: You claimed to be El Rufai's supporter in the past, how can one trust your judgement today of being a fanatical supporter of Jonathan today?

Face the topic, and maintain silence if you have no sensible counter-arguments. Leave flippant lips to younger ones. Thank you.

Grey hair is sacred.
My age is not the issue, I am worried about your judgement, that you considered El Rufai to be worthy of been called his supporter in the past, why should, one trust your judgement today about Jonathan whom you again today a big supporter?
Its simply reasoning, I don't know what it got to do with my age or grey hair?
It a brainstorm based on what you said, I did not abuse you in any form or style as that is not my way.
I am not asking for your respect as it means nothing to me being on cyber space, it about discussing issues, just that some people take beyond what it is, exchange of idea by people who will never meet each other ever.

He certainly lost me as a follower long ago, and I doubt that he is keeping any of those who hung on.

Sad.
If you use to be El Rufai supporter in the past, how can one be sure you won't turn on Jonathan when he becomes powerless like El Rufai in future, when today becomes the good old days?

Beaf: 85% of Nigeria's indeginious oil wells are held by the core-Northern elite. This group of a few men make twice as much per annum as the entire Niger Delta; they do not pay states and LG's like the FG. The money is all raw cash.

The licenses to those oil blocks were issued by Abacha (and Buhari), IBB and Abubakar. Incidentally, most of these licenses are due for renewal between 2016 and 2018. These men are very deeply scared of a GEJ in power at that time; this the reason politics has become extreme and there is such a fiercely fevered battle for 2015 (even though its a very long 3 years away). It is a battle for the ability to continue phucking Nigeria and manufacturing almajiri's at industrial scale. What can such a group of men be called, but parasites.

Boko haram is all about oil.
I will take it that the licenses are hold by CPC members not THE SAME PDP you didn't vote for but Jonathan? grin grin grin
Who is fooling who?

sometimes u just have to accept that in this life there will alway be some kinda of convolutions

u still have 9-11 questioning on wether those evil deed was done by US government

now one thing certain here is in PDP aboki branch course there must be some b astard within! sure

the core north has been harbourin these evil culture since back in the days

they killed the igbo with no remorse; last year alone they killed lots of innocent corpers; just last years rip; they shot the warning shot to miss world which they mistaken for a joke? what happened them SAD where in nigeria would most okada ride around with dagger hidden by the side; u get killed by runnin over a chicken etc. Now this is a life sytle in the north; A useless average mallam will get one pregnant and move to abuja to sell suya after so many years he probably comes back without even knowing whereabout his children are shocked EL-rufai wouldnt open up as expected; the same as Sanusi

Imagine as a human being right, u sat in the church prayin to God and all of a sudden there was a massive explosion which claim lives; just imagine the anger; the hate; etc these ba stard carrys around in their heart; it takes a lot of enegry to perpetuate those evil deed and these are the ba stard we have right here; its not as easy as YEYE and corrupt EL ru-fool tryin to make it in the pages im afraid and im not buyin that farkin crap right from that i doit ANGRY these ba stard goes around blowin up churches and that killin as they go and this is what we get from the f ucker

What has all the above got to do with accusation that your govt that is selling lots of crude oil everyday is borrowing a billion dollar monthly since it came to power in your name?

polokor60: i guess this littleman el rufia was playing with the desert sand in sahara desert when ciroma and co promised to make nigeria a living hell if ebele becomes the president??#amnesia..# angry
The issue is not about El Rufai but this:
Why do Boko Haram attacks follows every unravel corrupt/scandal in Jonathan govt? It may be unconnected but its worth asking as the coincidence is very glaring.
Is Jonathan borrowing $1 billion every month since he came to power? Is it true as he provided where to go and look or ask?
Why is federal workers being owed month or months of their wages? Can it be verified, haven't you got someone that works for govt or knew someone?

This is the three issue raised in this post, not the size of or height of El Rufai. How daft can Nigerians get? Always leaving real issues and chasing shadow. This the reason your leaders treat you people like dirt under their shoes because they understand your chicken brain reasoning.

chuks49: Good move from president banda, but she should be know that IMF romance with third world countries never ends well.
Money from IMF/WORLD BANK,PARIS CLUB etc are loans are should be treated as such but corrupt Africa rulers treats it as father Christmas gift. They treat this loans like a man that went to the bank to borrow money to help his fledging business with a very high interest but on getting home, partitioned the money into three. One he shared among his friend, the other use used to marry three extra wives and the remaining he used to treat himself to a new car and got himself a new chieftaincy title.
He forgot that he had to pay the money, no the mention the high interest and strict condition attached to the loan by the creditor. So its not about IMF but about your leaders who will share loan given to them to build a new modern bridge with toll facilities that can pay the loan with in a certain and they will go and use the money to buy a new presidential jet from companies funded by the same creditor and the rest they share it among themselves, then took the money back, to be hidden in the banks abroad where the money originated.

A "guest" indeed, someone who has simply refused to allow or support others to contest in his stead . . .you can't twist this one . . .
Like I said before, spreading lies about anybody for the longest time doesn't one day makes it the truth. People like you have been brainwashed by their own tormentors and they are walking around like zombies wasting useful oxygen.
You can continued being a prisoner of your self imposed prison of lack of conscience, that is up to you or you can change like the Egyptians and make a change.
Someone made this bolded quote above, you can do well and take his advise.- Nairalanders, Nigerian youth, go and develop yourself a brain. If you don't have a brian, borrow one. If you can't borrow one, buy one. If you can't buy one, go and steal one. Whatever you do, by all means get yourself a brain AND USE IT
PoliticsRe: Why I Wept Openly For Nigeria – Buhari by Eziachi: 6:13pm On Jun 02, 2012
I swear to God, Nairaland maybe the biggest Nigerian forum, but it is also now the worst: full of i.dio.ts and people who obviously lack any intellect. That is why I've stopped posting on Nairaland since like 4 months ago. But I just have to say something now.

I'm sorry to say this, but NIGERIANS ARE STILL GOING TO SUFFER A LOT. It seems as if all the youths have been brainwashed and cannot use their brains anymore.

Imagine, every evidence concerning Boko haram so-much-so points towards PDP. Even Jonathan said his goverment has been infiltrated by Bokoharam. Are CPC members part of Jonatha's goverment; Jonthan's goverment is 99% composed of PDP. All the politicians that have been arrested or questioned by SS are PDP party members. The National Security Adviser said in an important televised South-South conference that PDP is Bokoharam, and even went to give a detailed meaningful insightful explanation. Yet f.o.o.l.s of Nairaland conveneintly ignores all this and keep on shouting Buhari is chief sponsorer of Boko-harm.

What is wrong with the youth of today that they can so easily be brainswashed even when conspicious evidence points in the opposite direction.

In criminalites that borders mainly on finacials gains, the standard practise all over the world is to "follow the money" and it leads to the perpetrators of the crimes. Therefore in criminalities like Boko-haram which everyone on this forum has declared is seeking finacial gain, all you have to do is "follow the power" (power is the currency of politics) and it will lead to the perpetrators of the crimes.

If Jonathan is successfully prevented from running in 2015 presidential elections, where does the power go to? Does it go to Buhari of CPC? Or does it goes to the Northern elements of ACN or APGA?

I beleive everyone knows the anwer. The only place where the "power" goes is to the Northern Elements of PDP. Then why are Nairalanders brainswahing themseles with the propangada of the elites, who even have some of their agents working on forums like Nairaland.

I sense that Nigerinsa will still suffer a lot because they have not learnt any lesson. Otherwise, I do you explain a nation whose populace complain of so much suffering, yet keep on voting the same PDP party every four years; a party who has done nothing but worsened their lives in the last 12 years. The problem of Nigerian is Nigerians. And O boy, unless there is a change in this dogmatic attitude, more suffering, debasement, dehumisation etc. are still coming their way.

I was at a gathering recently and guys were talking about the 3 trillion naira fuel subsidy scam of Jonathan's Presidency (don't even get me started; it's impossible to spend 3 triiion naira for something 247 billion was budgeted for without the knowledge of the President) and an educated south-south guy just shouted, "Abeg make una shut up there, didn't Obasanjo chop 16 billions dollars on the power-sector". At that point I just had to join the discussion and I asked him: if Obasanjo chopped 16 billions dollars, is anyone commending him for it? Do you know the greatest condemnation of Obasanjo during & after his Administraion came from the Southwest. Then are you saying if Obasanjo chopped 16 billion dollars, the Jonathan should be allowed to squander 32 billion dollars?

Nigeria youths, wise up; among the elites, there is no ethnicity. They are one. Ethnicity is something they only use to manipulates brain.less Nigerians to achieve or protect their selfish goals

People need to shun sentiments and ethnicity; search for the truth and speak the truth in all matters, otherwise u go suffer tire.

The truth is, whether you admit it or not, Jonathan is not on the side of the people; he is on the side of the corrupted, selfish and greedy elite. The truth is Jonathan is totally corrupt. He is not a victim of some cabal; he is part and parcel of the cabal.

The truth is Nigeria's problem is not power, education, poverty, bad roads; Nigeria's problem wicch is the origin & source of our every other problem is CORRUPTION.

The truth is Jonathan's Administraton cannot do anything about corruption because Jonathan's Aministration is one of the most corrupt in Nigeria's history. In just one year, it had perpetrated a fraud of almost 3000 billion (3 trillion) in just one sector of the economy.

Do Nigerians youth actally know what 3 trillon is? That money is enough to tranform every sector of Nigerian life: from heath sector to education, to roads, to railways, power etc, just mention it. Yet Jonathan who promised in his inaugural speech "to always put the common man first" in everything he does perpetrated this wickedness on the common people.

Do you know that right, Jonathan's Aministration is still looking for a way to further increase fuel price. Therefore before it can do this, Jonathan's Administration is looking for a way to infiltrate and destroy the unity of the NLC. But God won't allow them to succeed.

Hvae u forgooten so soon how so many people defended the subsidey removal saying it was for the good of Nigerians. Even Jonathan himself said if the subsdiy was not removed that Nigerian Economy will collaspe in 3 months. Now with the fuel subsidy report, we know better.

Then concerning Buhari, please people, why not make your reseach about this man, and not just swallow the propangada that goverment agents are spreding all over about him.

The truth is that the Nigerian elites, irrespective of tribe are afraid of this man coming to power. But now they don't even have to lift their hands gainst him because Nierian youths are already doing their job for them.

Please, Nairalanders, Nigerian youth, go and develop yourself a brain. If you don't have a brian, borrow one. If you can't borrow one, buy one. If you can't buy one, go and steal one. Whatever you do, by all means get yourself a brain AND USE IT FOR GOD'S SAKE.
Thank you, you continue from where I left off,

Repeating the same lie cannot eventually make it the truth. Buhari did not and never overthrew SHAGARI. It is a fact. He was a guest. When those that overthrew Shagari (IBB, David Mark, Dogonyaro, Useni, Abacha, Ayuba, Adisa, Onoja, Vatsa etc) got tired of him not playing the usual ball of self enrichment of the coup booty, they came back to take what is theres and hence Buhari did not fight and peacefully went back to his Daura and live a quiet life.

ak47mann: but why didn't he implement all those things when he was in powerhuh
He did and the unchangeable Nigeria actually changed within months.
People no longer urinate openly on the road,
You think twice before you offer/take bribe, people even now cue to board Molue orderly.
Your gutters no longer smells, but was running with clean water
Suddenly, armed robbers disappeared without trace, drug barons became fearful barons overnight and went into hiding.
The phrase "Ghost workers" disappeared from the Nigerian corruption dictionary.
For the first time a real fighter of corruption is in power with clean hand. But Nigerians like you who prefer suffering can't understand it or take and within six months the real coup-owners that Overthrow Shagari led by IBB took over with aid of CIA and their agents like Abiola. As they are not use to having clean leader out of Africa that they can control and blackmail over the stole wealth kept in their care every time such leader wants to break free

Nigerians like yourself cheered IBB, the smiling rogue messiah and the rot begins.
And you had the audacity/nerve to ask such a question above? I pray that many of you should take off the ethnic loyalty bigotry beclouding you brains and hearts and think for yourself as God's creation, not like hate filled programmed robots.

You can still be Jonathan supporter and think with your brain.
You can be a Jonathan follower without having to hate Buhari as qualification to support GEJ.
You can support Jonathan and at the same time knows evil against good.
You can be a southerner and still get it that not every southerner is your brother and not every northerner is your enemy.
Finally you can support Jonathan and have some common sense at the same time.

What worries me however, is that you guys easily conclude that the guys I mentioned above and even GEJ are corrupt and Buhari isnt.
How do you often arrive at that?
Maybe you knee what we all don't know. What is the crime that Buhari committed that make you to compare him with the likes of Orji Kalu and IBB?
We are all living witnesses that PDP past and present govt has done everything to make the man looks bad but has yet to succeed.

Tell told you he is an extremist and no single example to support that and the man shocked them when he chose a preacher as his running mate. They created Boko Haram and turn around unsuccessfully to pin it on him. They bombed the eagle square but did not succeed in pinning it on him after trying.

They rigged the election in the north and the aftermath they turn around to pin it on him when he was even a victim.
They registered children in the north and said it was him as if he was their PDP governors, INEC that was in-charge.
And you really think that if Buhari got a bargage, they wouldn't had used it by now?

The way I see it, you have now become a prisoner of no mind or conscience of your own. All in the name of some desperate attempt of allegiance to a corrupt Nigerian like Jonathan Goodluck.
Because of this fact, you now will choose to calla black, a white and a red, a green. YOU SEEMS NO LONGER HAS A MIND OF YOUR OWN TO BE ABLE TO DISCERN good and evil or negative against positive.

Just for what? Desperation to be a supporter of a politician that had join the league of those that had impoverished you and your family. That is really sad and I do feel sorry for you, how difficult it must be doing what you have managed to become all by yourself.

But its not too late to be free. Freedom is not only when you are not inside Kirikiri. The sort of prison that you are now is even more degrading than being kirikiri.
Comments I make over issue is purely based on the truth with a pure conscience and that help me to say things the way I see it, even if am wrong or right, but not based on the ideal that I must surely support something or disapprove of something at all cost, because that is the way it must be, even when a day old child could discern better.
Set yourself free before its too late and you will notice how enjoyable a free mind can be.

I am sure you gave yourself this sermon when stuffing ballot papers for Digital-Jonathan and now he doing well running your life smoothly in analogue age pace.
Abuse of power is the worst form of corruption in leadership. Buhari abused power when he was military Head of State.

Name a military government anywhere in the world that doesn't abuse power?
When Buhari seized power, he threw Alex Ekwueme into prison in KiriKiri and kept Shehu Shagari under house arrest. How do you explain such double standards?

Its because Ekwueme is corrupt and Shagari isn't. Where do you think Ekwueme got the money to build all the 5 star Modotel hotels and breweries? From his salary?

During Buhari, journalists were brutalized, hushed and muzzled. Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabor were jailed under the evil laws of the Buhari regime.

Its not a one man show govt, the laws a.k.a decree was made by the supreme military council of which Buhari is a member and of which president of the senate now is also a member.
During the Buhari regime, 53 suitcases were smuggled into the country at a time the nation's borders were closed because of the change in the colour of the national currency in 1984. Have we forgotten?

Get over yourself, telling the same lies 100 times would not overnight turn it into being the truth. We all knew about your suitcases, even Buhari worst enemies has come out and said it was truth and in fact the owner of the so called suitcase is an emir and alive today. Moreover Nigerians don't steal money into the country, they do steal to send it outside the country. Which law is that, kindly quote it and if there was a crime was the offender Idiagbon rather than Buhari?
Lawal Ojuolape, Benard Ogedengbe and Bartholomew Owoh; these three men were ordered to be executed by Buhari under a retroactive decree for the crime of drug trafficking which didn't carry a death penalty wen they committed the crime.

In more than 30 nations in the world narcotic trafficking is punishable by death and a Nigerian decree stipulated the same at the time and the two people you mentioned wasn't innocent of drug trafficking, they were found guilty by a court in NIGERIA and pay the price for their crime. During that period drug trafficking among Nigerias came to almost zero. What is it now, if you can tell me?
The late Tai Solarin was imprisoned and refused treatment for his asthma by this same Buhari.

That is common with any military rule, am not saying that its right but just that you made it sound like Buhari invented it. Rumours belong to folks at Iddo motor park, but if you chose it as your past time, then good luck to you. By by the way Buhari is Fulani and Uba Ahmed is a bloody Hausaman, how is that for tribesman?
Buhari, like IBB and Abdusalami Abubakar treated the Oputa Panel with disdain. He refused to show up at the panel.

Why would he show up if there was no law mandating him to do so? If you where him I am sure you would have been buying ticket to go where your enemies are waiting. If OBJ was serious, a law through the national assembly would have establish the panel but he didn't do that and left it for choice. After all the jamboree at your Oputa panel, what was the outcome? Nothing!
I will not vote for Buhari in 2015; not even if he picks the Pope as his running mate.

Thats a big surprise! I am sure Buhari is drowning his soul now with Kai-kai over the lost of your vote for 2015 which you never gave him in other previous election. I am sure he is losing sleep over your vote.

porka: Did I read institutional autonomy? Are these institutions self funding?
What is wrong with some of you young people? Autonomy/independence of a public body is not determined by its funding.
The BBC is autonomous/independent but its funded hundred percent by public money.
If not because of Nigeria crooked democracy, public bodies like FRCN, NTA and universities despite funded by the taxpayers should be free of any sort of govt interference and that includes arbitrary changing their lawful established names and businesses.
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka Opposes UNILAG/MAU Renaming by Eziachi: 4:18pm On May 31, 2012
PStylish: Wow.
When people become too wise, they eventually become st.upid. That is the case with many Yorubas. They usually do not know what they want.
Some people are just against the present administration and will kick against anything that comes from it.
Thankfully, there will always be peeps like me who will put over sabi yorubas in check from time to time.
Its either Unilag or MAU or the like. That should be ok with everyone.ABU,OAU,ATBU,BUK were renamed with an intentional bias for their regions.
Don't bring your tribal nonsense into this as this got nothing to do with Yoruba or any tribe but common sense.
I am an Igbo man and when this news first broke, my first thought was- not again!
SAME THOUGHT WHEN IFE'S IDENTITY WAS STOLEN AND RENAMED AFTER AWOLOWO. I had always maintained that this got NOTHING to do with the individual personalities but the fact that this institutions are very old and had over the years carved out their own images based on their established names.
You cannot just jump in and change it. Another president may come tomorrow and name it after his mother, then what? Just because he can, where does it end?
This why this desecration of universities, especially the older ones as political football to play with should stop.
If they are to build a fresh university that will start with the name of this individuals, that is fine.
The name of this institution like UNILAG carries the history of millions that had graduated from it over the years and it parts and parcel of whom they are and form parts of their lives and cannot be tampered it by external forces just because they hold few years of political power. As you might as well change the name of those alumni too.
The University I attended in Scotland was founded in 1583 and still bear the same name in 2012, that is in a sane country where people appreciate and understand the importance in a name, continuity and history.
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka Opposes UNILAG/MAU Renaming by Eziachi: 3:50pm On May 31, 2012
odumorun 1: I strongly disagree with Wole Soyinka on this.

The furore regarding the renaming of Unilag is elitist posturing of the worst kind, dressed up in the garb of democratic protestation. This has nothing to do with anger that the council of the university was not consulted. The university and its senate and governing council do not fund the school. The school is funded by the federal government from the federal purse representing millions of hardworking Nigerians most of whose kids will never enjoy the benfit of a university education let alone a prestigious one like Unilag.

The storm in a tea cup is another example of middle class Nigerians, particularly yoruba ones (the most snobbish and self regarding version and yes i am a Yoruba) refusing to be associated with a person largely revered by the poorer classes. The same happened when Uiversity of Ife was renamed in 1987 in honour of Obafemi Awolowo, when a few hundred students largely of middle class origin demonstrated their objection, while the poor people in the town, carpentars, shoe makers, tailors and others who benefited from awo's reforms celebrated.

This is all about a few priviledged and educated yoruba people wanting to retain what they see as an eleitis label placing them apart from the majority of the population whom they secretly despise. If the school had been named after Barack Obama would they be protesting, even if it was done without consultation - Of course they wouldn't - they'll probably be fantasising about getting an easy visa ride in the American embassy.

Wole Soyinka is a radical and progressive Nigerian but his elitism is a well known flaw which is why he has never inspite of his undoubted courage been able to buod a mass following for his ideas.

Unilag is funded by the majority of the people of this country, not the students or their lecturers. Most ordiany Nigerians respect the sacrifices people like abiola made - they, not the spolit middle class kids kicking up a fuss in Unilag are the majority. The noisy minority in Unilag should be ignored. they will son go back to their Ipads

If they don't like the name when they receive their degrees let them rip them up. They don't own the school, the people do -i've not seen any demonstrations in mushin, shomolu, bere or sabongari against it.

If wole is not happy let him write a poem about his fury. He is a great man, but on this occasion he is wrong
It will be interesting to hear your full explanation of elitist in this discussion, because in your words it seem to me that you believed that- UNILAG sounds very posh which suits those you term elite, while MUALAG isn't as posh, therefore MAULAG is a water down version of UNILAG, just to punishment to your so-called elite?
Some times, some of you do over use this word called elite. Elitism is not just found around political but cultural, academical, infact all aspect of life, so I can't understand your invocation of the word elite as those opposing Jonathan desecration of a firmly established institution with over half a century history.
PoliticsRe: Six New States Coming Soon - National Assembly by Eziachi: 5:32pm On May 30, 2012
Nigerians are really funny bunch!
Yesterday they want Nigerian divided, some romancing and designing their new nations flags and coats of arms.
Today they want and clamouring for one state after another? Confused/wasted generation.
More new states, more new his excellencies and their legion of aides
More Patience Jonathan clones in the arms of to be new excellencies. More London/Paris, New York private Jet trip shoppings.
When a man constantly believed that by having more children upon the one he cannot feed is his only way out of poverty, then you have to question his sanity.
Those who are struggling to make the senate in the old state now has an easy ride to governorship in the new states.
Councillorship candidates now become senatorial candidates.
More states, more watering down the quality of leadership (sorry rulership), ore moronic followership.
Every people deserve their kind of leadership.

Kobojunkie: There is nothing selfish about supporting the honoring a respectable, and unselfish character. Of course there will likely be those against it, but I will support any change that will be of greater value to my alma mater. There is nothing selfish in that. However, I will only support that which I feel is not only necessary, but also brings improved value.

There is no way to remove the value a new name will, or will not bring, from a re-naming of this sort. This is not speaking of love or hate, but of value people place on the name in question. As it stands, there are many who place more value on the UNILAG name than they do on the MKO name. That is just it.

It is the same with the re-naming of any product out there. If people percieve the one name has more value than the other, they support it.

Azikiwe's decision was probably because the man believed that his name would not add any value to the institution. Who knows!

I protested on June 12th 1993, and I did so, not because I was an Abiola worshiper -- I was no sycophant even back then. No, I couldn't have cared less for the man. Matter of fact, I didn't hold out much hope for him changing things should he had been made president. No, I did so because what happened that day was a slap on the faces of the people of Nigeria and their right to decide their future.

Making june 12th democracy day, and a holiday, will change nothing of what happened on that day or what has transpired since then. I would instead support an apology to Nigerians. And probably an apology to Abiola would have been better than re-naming a school after him.
Another meaningful angle to look at it with the June 12.
But If Zik humbly felt that Nsukka is bigger than him, then Abiola would believed that he is bigger than Lagos? grin
PoliticsRe: Why I Renamed UNILAG Moshood Abiola University - Jonathan by Eziachi: 4:48pm On May 30, 2012
wesley80: The great Zik gave reasons for not wanting a name change, what were they? I'm sure you know and I assure you non of those reasons was 'aesthetic'. Now what are the excuses for not renaming UNILAG? That It already has a legacy? Great! 50yrs is just about enough to build and bask in some legacy or "brand" as some prefer to call it, time to build another for the next 50 and while they r at it, immortalize a national Hero!
I don't get it. grin grin grin grin
What is Nigerian obsession in renaming a well established institutional names?
I wonder if your name is to be changed by your father after 50 years of your existence, whether he told you or not?
A day old baby has a day long old history and you can't take it away from the child.
If half century of history is not long enough for you to appreciate, I can't imagine what is.
PoliticsRe: Why I Renamed UNILAG Moshood Abiola University - Jonathan by Eziachi: 4:41pm On May 30, 2012
Donmeca: U made a lot of valid points about brands and branding....attachment...very good points yet fraught with with exaggerations. UNILAG cutting btw 300 and 400 UME marks for admission (y not 500-700 out of a possible 400?), then making UNIZIK vs UNILAG an orange vs apple scenario are only few of them. Pls bro, demand for admission exceeds available space in every Nigerian (public) university ...not just UNILAG. This is due to carrying capacity, nothing more! UNIZIK only comes a close 2nd to UNILAG in terms of candidate preferences not in d quality of teaching or graduates. If UNILAG has any edge over UNIZIK, its in d length of existence....50 yrs vs 20 yrs. Y does UNILAG have more people applying to study there? Lagos! Lagos is d most populated state and d only city-state in Nigeria....so residents and neighbours of lagos will study in lag cos of proximity and d presence of job opportunities in d state. Pls tell d truth always and don't colour it as u just did.
So what you are saying is that, from your heart of hearts, you were given admission to study at both UNIZIK Awka and University of Lagos, that you will choose UNIZIK against UNILAG?
I am sure equally that you will choose UNIZIK over Oxford/Cambridge.
Saying the truth can make you live a better longer life, you guys should stop lying just to make an argument you knew deep down that its false.
PoliticsRe: Why I Renamed UNILAG Moshood Abiola University - Jonathan by Eziachi: 4:35pm On May 30, 2012
Kobojunkie: Dude,I don't get what you are trying to say or suggest. Abiola is dead. He likely does not care if the school is named after him or not. I hope he is finally answering papa God for the path he played in getting Nigeria to where it is today.

I only care if my alumni is re-named after some man I have no respect for. Other than that, if the person contributed more to the betterment of the institution, and the lives of the people. I will wholeheartedly support honoring such a man in the best way possible. May not necessarily be renaming of the school, but probably setting up a building in it and naming it after him.

UNILAG bore no one's family name up to this point so I fail to see the sense of you asking if I would allow my family name to be changed in my honour. People go to the courts to have that done on a regular basis anyways, so again I fail to see your point.

What did Murtala Mohammed do for Nigeria for him to have an airport named after him to begin with? Was Murtala any different from Abacha? That ought to be your first question? Taking from paul to give peter in what sense? If you claim Abiola was a hero to Nigeria, then who is Peter? Nigerians who you assume he was a hero of? Who is Paul? Abiola, the man you assume is a hero?

What Azikiwe said means nothing to me. I mean he said UNN should not be named after him. What stops the school from being named instead after Ojukwu or some other name the politicians come up with ?
So you whole argument then bothers on selfish interest? as long as the person renamed after your school is someone your respect that is fine but you forgot that someone you respect maybe equally be someone loathed by another person.

That is why I said that its not about Abiola as person, because not every student at the school likes Abiola or hates him as a person, but the fact remains that the name UNILAG as an institutional name in his own right is as famous as Abiola himself and was named after one of the biggest city in Africa called Lagos. It means that you are taking from Lagos to give to Abiola.

What Azikiwe said may not interest you but it shows that Azikiwe, who foresaw the foundation of UNN himself knew the importance of the name and the Nsukka town's name it bore and would hate to be selfish to see his name replace it, even when he is gone.
No Igbo man could claim that he loves Ojukwu more than I do but I will oppose any move to rename the University at Nsukka after him.

From OBJ to Jonathan had always resisted honouring Abiola through the channel of June 12. Making June 12 a national democratic day/national holiday, in my opinion honoured Abiola more than destroying the history of a famous institution. June 12 day could have encompassed every single sole that died for the so called democrazy, not just Abiola the figure head.
How can you Jonathan be honouring Abiola's contribution to your democracy but still celebrate the day OBJ took over power as the official democratic day in Nigeria?
The same OBJ that contributed nothing to the so called democracy?
PoliticsRe: Why I Renamed UNILAG Moshood Abiola University - Jonathan by Eziachi: 4:14pm On May 30, 2012
nwabuife: I fear yoruba people o, I tot they love dis man so much. Is dat a big deal 4 MKO! Yoruba person person can never b a true friend, they will laugh wit u in ur present even doballe ones u turn ur back they ll call u oloriburuku oloritipa olorinla. Anambra have Nnamdi Azikiwe University n is ok. Man!!!
How old is the university named after Zik?
Renaming them after Zik is a favour to the university because Zik has much history than the university, older and more famous than them. UNILAG or Lagos is 10 times bigger and well known than Abiola. That is the difference.
During the 1980s when privatisation public football teams was in vogue, Imo state govt sold the famous Spartans F.C of Owerri to Iwuanyanwu and he later changed the name from Spartans to Iwuanyanwu Nationale.

Many money bags in the East were cueing up to buy Rangers of Enugu too, but the government of the then Anambra gave a pre-sale condition to the interesting buyers that will be signed before hand, that the famous name "RANGERS International FC", which has become a part and parcel of Igbo people, no matter the state Nigerian pitched you into can never be changed.
u
And in a typical Nigeria way., they all withdrew their interest. Iwuanyanwu killed the famous Spartans and where is his Iwuanyanwu Nationale today? Its dead and gone.
Same could have happened to Rangers if not for the foresight of the then governor of Anambra state who appreciated what NAME means in the history of any person, School, Town, Country, Edifice, Arena etc.
PoliticsRe: Why I Renamed UNILAG Moshood Abiola University - Jonathan by Eziachi: 3:54pm On May 30, 2012
Kobojunkie: Nope, I would probably say it this way "Mooshood Abiola Graduated from the then University of Lagos, now re-named in his honor". Absolutely nothing wrong or out of place there. Please, let's be honest with ourselves here.

This is no new development.
.
You mean that you will be quite happy the a famous school you attended to be renamed after you? That is interesting!
You really will allow your family name changed into your own name just because it was said to honour you?
UNILAG or LAGOS for that matter is bigger than Abiola.
Would you rename murtala airport after Abacha? Nothing to do with the individuals but taking from Paul and given to Peter.
In the 80s during one of the graduation ceremonies at UNN, Dr Azikiwe in his speech practically begged Nigeria rulers at the time and the future rulers to come never to rename UNN for any reason, even to his own name.
Doesn't that tell you something?
