aribisala0: The bitterness plenty sha. A law to FORCE companies too....oga WHY??What bitterness? I am only giving you the hypothesis. Why must everything to you guys be reduce to tribal issue or personal? How can I be bitter about Lagos? I love Lagos and I have personally and with my family, has real estate investment worth billions in Lagos since 1978. That doesn't means that I can't discuss issue about Lagos regarding fact of life. If Lagos is been portioned as a cake today, I think your share to mine will be of no comapare. ![]() |
aribisala0: The amalgamation of the components WAS the creation of NIGERIAI thought the word Amalgamation is simple word? So in your opinion the British arrived in 1914? I knew folks from my town that fought for the Brits in 1914 war, even though they are not combatants. People like Dr Azikiwe and many other Igbos were born in Northern Nigeria before 1914 and their parents, working for the British-Nigerian Railway corporations. When was Calabar the capital? I thought I have answered that before, that I can't give you a date, because I am not one of those that make this up just to win an argument. Just because I don't know period you were in primary school education doesn't mean that you don't have one. |
0lumide: your "IF TO SAY" na wash!!This is another if for you: If there is a law today that will force all mining companies to site all their corporate head offices in places where they get their findings- how many middle class families do think will mass exit from Lagos following this firms to go? They will go with their corporate and individual taxes with them. House prices will be significantly be reduced in and around Lagos. Do you know the pact that will have on Lagos economy? If you take all the federal ministries and their subs that are still kept in Lagos, how much impact do you think it will have on Lagos both short and long terms? And fast forward, years after that, the impact will be very visible for the blind to see. A city like Osogbo today, is it the same city it was before they made it a capital of a state? Probably prior to Osogbo becoming a capital, real state price there must be in pennies but today, it might have increased by 5000% just because of its present statu as a capital, and that is what made Lagos what it is till today. The former political/economic capital of Nigeria and today, still the economic capital of Nigeria till tomorrow. |
aribisala0: The reason I challenge you is because it is a false claim and perhaps you should know better than to propagate a falsehood to impressionable young people.Nigeria was created in 1914 and Lagos was the Capital from day one. If you have contrary evidence let us have it !!!No, Nigeria wasn't created in 1914, it was the Amalgamation of all components of Nigeria that happened in 1914. By 1891 my late great grandfather were already trading Palm produce, rubber with the Royal Niger Company of Britannia in exchange for White-horse Bicycles. What makes Lagos, what it is today is infrastructures it enjoy as the capital until Abuja came along |
aribisala0: CAN YOU TELL US WHEN CALABAR WAS CAPITAL OF NIGERIA?? WHICH YEAR EXACTLY OR YEARS??I cannot be specific but it was in the earliest days of British colony process, mainly by missionaries, that is why even to those of my age, the date is obscure, but you are smart enough to search to find out ans share it with us. |
0lumide: Jealousy go kill una!!!There is a huge difference between Lagos as the capital of Nigeria and Calabar as the capital. When Calabar was the capital, its was based mainly on a statu missionary activities than commerce, as to when they moved it to Lagos. |
0lumide: Ahn ahn!!! Abdulie!!!!!! Akwa Ibom is not doing as half good as Lagos. Don't get it twisted. Comparing Lagos to Akwa Ibom is like comparing Abuja to Nnewi. No be same catigori oo..Some of you ver exaggerate this. Its people and statu given to a place or a city that makes that city what it is. Lagos was the capital of Nigeria for many years and all the infrastructures of modern world for the nation of Nigeria was first built in Lagos and that gives Lagos a head start, many years ahead of other places. If the north didn't take the capital to Abuja, everything today built in Abuja as the capital will surely be located in Lagos and Lagos would have even be bigger than it is today. If Calabar was kept as the capital of Nigeria as it were when the missionaries arrived, Lagos will not be different from cities like Benin in statu today. The ports, airports that was first build in Lagos will be build in Calabar. In terms of what nature can offer, what is it that Lagos has that Port Harcourt don't have? But you can't compare Lagos to port Harcourt today? This just because of their different status dating back years. If Nigeria had broken up in 1967 and Oduduwa was to become a republic, Ibadan would had been better than Lagos of today because it would have become the capital of Oduduwa state and will enjoy the incentive of a capital city. All the oil companies and others there will not be there but somewhere else. What put the son ahead of a daughter in some cultures are status given to a male, take that away, most daughters are smarter than many sons. |
seanet01: The 2.3 trillion FG generates from Lagos ports will become Lagos money and viola, Lagos will survivie. Was't it the oil that build the Lagos infrastructures, that includes the ports and maintained it? Just asking! |
Sincere 9gerian: Mischief makers can say whatever they like but the fact is that presently, Abati is neither a PDP member nor spokesperson for the PDP. Abati speaks for GEJ and not for PDP. GEJ is a PDP member but GEJ is not synonymous with PDP.Wasn't Funsho william a PDP member? |
taharqa: Yea!! Same way Ribadu calld Tinubu a 'thieving governor' and ended up being d presidential candidate of his political party, with d same Tinubu raising his hands everywhere he went; d same way Pst Bakare prophesizd that d 'tall Lanky General' (Buhari) wud neva be Nigeria's president and was too old, yet ended up being his running mate in 2011; d same way Mallam elRufai declard in an article in 2010 when he still had high hopes of his future in d PDP, that Gen Buhari was UNELECTABLE nationally and was an old man who ought to retire from politics, turnd around within months to embrace d same Buhari and fighting for him on Twitter and FB, cursing anyone who even suggests that he didnt win d 2011 electionVery correct, my good friend. The same way you voted GEJ, not PDP. The list goes on. |
logica: I don't even understand where all these EPL lovers suddenly sprung from. From my early days in watching football, I would not be caught dead in front of a T.V with a match from England playing. Granted it has greatly improved over the years. In Europe, after Spanish League, the German League was always the most entertaining (speaking of skill). For a brief period, Italian League's profile was pushed up by the likes of Maradona, Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten but it's gone back to its dull self. Its the early 2000 bandwagon satellite TV football fans. They shout the loudest. In the 80s the only league watch in most African countries and most parts of the world are the Spanish and German leagues and late 80s and early 90s comes the Italian league. In those days, if you ever see English league on TV its always something to do with pool results. And this is coming from a Spurs season ticket holder for more than 30 years. In francophone countries, they watch mostly the French league. Most young people may not believe it that the French league was more popular and entertaining than the EPL in 80s and early 90s, thanks to clubs like Maisseile, Auxerre and PSG doing very well. In the 80/most 90s I use to miss Spurs games just to sit at home to watch Italian league on Channel 4 every Sunday afternoon. You will go to church, you can hardly wait for them to say, Amen, before you you jumped into the car, rushing home watch it because it starts at 12pm with Jambo (James Richardson). Until Man Utd's lucky champions league win in 1999 and Wenger arrival at Arsenal in 1996, plus the marketing impact of BSKYB, the EPL was a sh*t league that attracts only retiring or flopped players from Italy, Germany and Spain, just like the Chinese are doing today. But young satellite TV fan of today don't even know that. |
Fhemmmy: God never forsake people that called upon him, so dont spread fallacyWhat is the name of this god? |
obi4eze: There'll be no civil war in Nigeria. There are genuine Christians that pray for this country night and day.You guys and your religious reasoning towards everything. Prayer? I will assume there were no genuine Christians in 1967? Or the Christian prayers were on strike on your god then? Nations are doing practical things to change things, you religious zealots are busy praying to some unknown gods. Then the same old OBJ and his self importance and obsession at display, after warning about war, then he threw a tiff about his name not been in the program, throwing his toys out of his pram. What an egotistical clown of a man. ![]() |
Nightshift: Ask PDP executive in Owerri what really happened . You will be shocked .You started this theory and now you want me to ask PDP executives? I am asking you. I am almost lost on this, what the heck are we talking about? What bring this on and its relevance to the issue of the thread? I am out. |
taharqa: Could you plz tell what you understand from this:What I understood from what? You said farmers don't pay tax anyway, that is your own very word and I was asking you how you are giving any sort of incentive to someone that doesn't pay any tax, especially from tax payer money? How do you sleep at night with this kind of view on issues? Do you have any sort of shame. There are certain things that are indefensible in my opinion. Even if Jonathan is your secret father, at least there should be times, you see some terrible things, as a human with an atom of conscience, you had to say, this has got beyond joke. You can still be Jonathan supporter and still retain some element of sanity and reasoning. I can't get my head around this farmers and phone business. What is this phone suppose to do for a farmer? I can't for the life of me ever consider that the only item I viewed important to give an illiterate farmer is a phone, which even some unemployed could afford. What is that all about? Even the most moronic person can see this from afar that this is another channel/scheme opened to steal public money as always or someone has completely gone mad. |
seanet01: Retired? Then come home and enjoy your Retirement. You got that right. My grandchildren will not forgive me, if I am to spend their inheritance on ransom to some lazy criminals and home is where your best bed is. |
taharqa: Read tru d article again and you wud realise that its smthing of like nature that is been done, only na tru a Voucher system cos most of these farmers in 9ja dont pay tax anyways.. No body is just paying phones and sharing to farmersAnd you are giving phone from the public purse to someone that doesn't pay tax anyway? That makes sense! |
seanet01: i did not abuse you o. I swear i did not. I only meant that your Profession has taken away much of your time.Ok, I must have misread you. My apologies. By the way, I am now retired, why do you think I am on Nairaland? ![]() |
Erm!!! The EFCC just arrested his finance commissioner on this matter..
In my opinion, that is hardly an evidence. His commissioner is not him, is he? I am trying to be objective to the issue not the person. If that is the case, he has dug his own grave by fishing out the wrong doing s of the person he succeeded, which as set a pattern in future for the person that will succeed him. My qualms is that you guys want corrupt fought, but anytime there is a sign of that, everybody becomes sidetracked, abandons the issue and then embarked on this useless note comparing about who is more corrupt or the person is doing it. It doesn't make sense, what does you guys want? Jesus will not come down to recover any stole money from Imo, Ohakim himself is not a fool. If Okorocha hasn't got anything on him but making allegation, Ohakim can take him and his govt to court to clear his name and even make money out of it. Then Okorocha day will come too in future through someone else. But to throw away the water with the birth child all the time is so confusing with Nigerians. |
seanet01: Egbon The field of surgery don take away many things from you.I am not in any sort of fight or doubt about what you said, only trying to get the facts from you because I never knew that. Is that a crime not to know something and then ask? Only that some of you thinks to admit not to know something belittles you. Only for you to response to me with name calling I don't know what for. For asking a question? |
vanstanzy: U know, Rochas can cry wolf because "IT TAKES A THIEF TO CATCH A THIEF!".You love to admire Nigerians. They lambast Jonathan everyday for doing nothing on corruption and then calling another that is said to be doing something ames and jest pandering. Its difficult to know what you guys want. |
Ohakim stole 64 billion in 4 years.. Okorocha has stolen 42billion in under 2 years... By the time he completes 4 years, Ohakim sef go shock for am!!
Any evidence of this or is it just how you felt? |
seanet01: Under the Obasanjo Administration, Rochas was the head of National Airport management Authority,Ian how did that happen, this management authority has they got any sort of budget. When I google, I am I suppose to see an indictment/convictions or a written article by somebody? |
seanet01: Under the Obasanjo Administration, Rochas was the head of National Airport management Authority,I |
stine b: Apart from cocoa grown in few states of south west, which other Major plant or crop do they farm?Probably that eba you are enjoying now came from Ondo. if anything or the truth be told, apart from areas like Agbo and Sapele, I don't know any area in midwest that is known for food production on a mass scale. Why is tribalist invoked in anything Nigeria? By the way, govt using public money to give not modern farming tools to farmers but phone is nuts and makes no atom of sense. Any farmer who hasn't got in the first place is not a real farmer to start with. What next? buying them the phone credit? You can give farmers a certain percentage of tax rebate to take care of their expenses which will include phone, rent, stationery etc annually. Thats how its done is countries where sane persons are in charge. |
superior1: Why are you people making news out of this?, Jonathan was only addressing the CPC, ACN etc in army uniform. Azazi said this some times back only the culprit then was PDPLet me get this straight, why has this guy Azazi becomes the wise man of Greek since he died, just because he said what every ant and mouse knows about? Suddenly he is the prophetic genius- for someone who was useless on his job month after month, until he got the boot that he deserved. And why will Jonathan be referring to CPC and ACN? They are the leading opposition group, their job is to criticise the government in power whether they are wrong or right. If opposition starts singing the praise of the person or govt power, what chance have they got to be there themselves? You are in politics to win power and to win power you got to convince the voters that the present power is wrong, rubbish etc and you are the god's sent, even when you the worst of all. That is what CPC and ACN are in their right as in politics doing. And some of you are still thinking that they in dictatorship of Amin. If Nike start telling everyone that Adidas is the best stockist among all the sport wear brands (which maybe they are) what chance has Nike got as competitor in the sports wear market? Many Nigerians are still not very accustomed to democratic facets, especially regarding the statu of the opposition in a democracy. |
Not only that you need to drive it by yourself, also make sure that either your wife or mother is the conductor- the two most trusted persons in your life. Then you maybe have a chance of making headway before you can dream of any sort of profit. Goodluck! (I don't mean Jonathan) |
taharqa: Exactly, the primary audience he was talking to was the Security agencies (Army, et al), and He was subtly telling them that Govt was aware of some of the shenanigans of a very few of them who 'sell out' the Govt to BH and so would check it. That coming from the Commander-in-Chief is enough warning for those of them who are already doing it (or are planning on doing it).Really? So who is next in line on this warning trip? Armed robbers? I know what you are up to robbing and maiming people. Be warned!! (Finger jabbing) |
taharqa: Oh! Lawd, not again..Are you trying this hard to make fun of yourself or what? What is the difference between his cabinet and his government? Some book people help me out here! |
Only a person who doesn't know what he is doing will be running a government of saboteurs. |
Nightshift: One example: Some people in Owerri senatorial zone campaigned vigorously against Chima Chikwe becoming their senator just because she is perhaps from the 'wrong' divide. That was just a few years ago.I thought you said before that you are not referring to Imo? Where the heck is Owerri then? Is this Chima Chikwe not related to Kema Chikwe, the former minister? Some one denied senatorial seat in Owerri of all places because he is an imaginary caste? What planet are you and Chima Chikwe leaving in? |
Nightshift: The fact is that some ethnic snipers might use a more exposed issue of social stratification in Igboland here to throw abusive shots at Biafrans. No issue is not worth mentioning, whether anybody want to make a feast of it is not an excuse and if that bothers you, why raise it in the first place and then goes coy? It doesn't make sense. |
