talktimi: if you didn't know the matches weren't going to be broadcast live in Nigeria, then you obviously spend more time watching papa ajasco than watching the news so stop blaming BON or anybody because they owe you nothing. Nta, ait, channels, silverbird etc are all free to air channels so and thrs no way they could have made any profit if they pool together €4.5 million which would have been a waste of time and finances, if you are a businessman you will understand better. BON which is an association of all broadcasters in Nigeria actually adviced the federal govt against even subsidising the cost of the broadcast right so pls do your research well. I support this action to the fullest, no south african or any other national has the right to exploit me I don't know about youDebating something with people like you must be a waste of my time, because all you do is to jump into the water first before knowing it dept. NTA and your AIT DST are not the same. They may be free to air but you don't need a decoder to watch NTA in Nigeria or pay for it because its publicly owned and funded by the taxpayers. Have you ask how BBC manage to show sports events even without commercial sponsorship because its against the law that establish it? Even though NTA is funded by the public, still they are allowed to sell their programmes to commercial sponsors including sports games. So what is 4.5 million euros NTA cannot afford to get a sponsor to cover such a meagre sum? Jonathan should sack everyone at the commercial department if the whole NTA netwrok with almost 40 substations, with a 170 million viewing public power cannot sale and make profit for something they bought for just 4.5 millions. A sum most networks spent just to buy a news desk for their studio. |
Deep Sight: Quite realistic. It could be quite close. My take was that 2011 was very tight between GEJ and GMB. If not for the inflation of votes for GEJ in SE/SS and northern areas like Kaduna. I believe that GEJ would have won but would not not win enough vote for an outright victory and there would have been a run-off. If the same scenario happen in 2015 with a SW candidate for Buhari, the tipping point will be whether the northern politicians that rigged it for GEJ in places like Kaduna and Niger will be willing to do it again? And if GEJ rigs it again! Just pick up your passport and run, I predicts that might be the tipping point of the end of one Nigeria finally. |
Laalamed: muslim-muslim is not realistic just as christian-christian ticket.president and vp cannot come from the same region, north or south.my own take ribadu-fayemi ticket.both of them are young. What exactly is the difference between a normal Nigerian Christian/Moslem? Nothing! as they are both bigots, just the way they expresses it differs. |
I really need to correct your impression about this tv rights of a thing but can't quote all of you. 4. Nigeria paid 2.2 million USD (about N350m) last year, why pay 4.5 million euros (about 935 million this year. 5. Zambia paid 1million euros for the AFCON TV rights, why should Nigeria pay 4.5 million euros? Good job BON, we ain't paying a dime. 6. Its not as if we would win anyways...
Divide the population/viewing figure in Zambia against what they are charged and then do the same for Nigeria and thell me who is paying more? How many Nigerian taxpayer knew in advance that NTA is not going to show the games until yesterday? NTA belong to the public and its their duty to take such a public service very serious in advance or at least warn the general public ahead? Private tv stations can do what they like, even so, they owe it to their viewing public if they are to negate inn showing the games a subscriber thought he has paid to watch. BON/NTA/Govt owe it to Nigerian public to broadcast the game as a public service or at least give the courtesy of an well advance warning. |
Delafruita: and that statement means depriving nigerians of an opportunity to watch their team in the AFCON?what kind of people are these people?the fact that yo have DSTV doesnt mean everybody does.i had to deploy a teevee otside my office yesterday for a large crowd to watch the nigeria match.does that make sense?what then do the masses stand to gain from the government if not little things like this?4.5million euros is a measly sm that nigeria can afford to pay for the citizens to enjoy their soccer team.lets not forget nigeria didnt qualify last time and might not even qualify next time.this stupid decision just cost milions of nigerians the opportunity to see this generation of super eagles.if eventually nigeria wins(which i doubt),this stupid decision will have cost millions of nigerians the opportunity to see their nation lift a trophy.Well said, you can easily see the wickedness of Nigerians in display base on the way they see things from their little prism of life. When a Nigerian recognises that something is bad is only when it affect him/her directly. |
I really need to correct your impression about this tv rights of a thing but can't quote all of you. 1. The government is not supposed to take part in bidding for tv rights. That's for BON to do. 2. No money was budgeted for AFCON TV rights, BON will have to rely on sponsors. 3. The usual tv sponsors (telecoms and banks) backed out because Orange and Standard are the event sponsors.
Comparing Nigeria to Zambia, when you are supposed to be the so called big brother of African and the giant? You think BBC pays the same amount with NTA during world cups and the Olympics? No wonder your leaders take you lot for fools. They will say: Building a modern equipped hospitals is too expensive, because themselves and their family can afford to pay through the nose abroad to get the benefits of a good one abroad. Job BON my backside!! What for the life of my is 4.5million Euros to Nigeria, to starve their citizens and taxpayer a very little enjoyment of a football game? |
seunajia: For the very 1st time in their clueless lifetime, I am in support of a GEJ administration policy. *takes bow*You are comparing the population viewing audience in SA to Nigeria? with NTA having 38 substations and hundred of radio stations, that is a lot of money to be made from advertising. Will the likes of Maku and members of the BON watch the games? Of course they will, because they can afford sat' channels. |
It shows how wicked and empathetic Nigerian rulers are. Football is one of those few thing that give some measure of pride to an average Nigerian and now they are saying its expensive. I want them to tell me why Cameroon, a tiny nation compared to Nigeria in wealth can afford to show the match while not even participating? Did other nation get a discount to show the matches? Why is it that when it comes to issue of public benefits, Nigeria dictators develop how to be prudence with money? This is coming from a nation whose president has fleet of personal assigned aircraft when 7 of the world 8 top economies has no such luxuries? A nation where almost every governor now has a jet to himself. The money they stole from oil subsidy will pay for Nigerians to watch this matches 100 of times. This must be the last slap on the face. |
Wadeoye: All we need for Buhari to be president is simple majority - democracy does not require everybody to vote for him. So, we are not worry at all that you would vote wrongly again. But I can asure you, majority of nigerians will do the right thing this time around.Who is this "we"? Buhari in my opinion is a very honest and straight forward man, whose likeness will never win election in Nigeria because his principle of honesty doesn't conform well with the normal Nigerian standard. But I do believe that many of you in the SW hailing him now are not genuine, you want to use his good name as a ladder to climb back into position of power through the back door of a possible VP position. After all the guy is ageing. You had the chance to make him president in 2011, what did you do? You sold him a penny and half to Jonathan/PDP. In 2003, you had the chance but you chose the rogue of your son OBJ and to the extent of sacrificing AD governors in the process. So you guys are not fooling anyone with this your sudden Buhari is now your messiah of convenient. Though I still regard him as the only genuine politician alive today in Nigeria irrespective of what his detractors has chose to paint him and programmed bigoted Nigerian tribalist to believe. |
Deep Sight: Frankly I am shocked and utterly gobsmacked that you would state that Buhari's treason of 1983 "restored pride to our nation".What treason? Do you think that the likes of Tam David West committed treason in 1983 or '84 as well? |
Wadeoye: Typical ss or se villager. Come out from the bush/creek and see how nigerians will vote in 2015.And which concrete jungle do you come from, Mr Bush and Creek? |
Deep Sight: You say he has never planned or participated in any coup. That is a very odd statement, which only a Nigerian is capable of making. Please note the two words I highlighted in red; and take note of their different connotations.I knew what your highlights means PLANNED/PARTICIPATED. If you knew the coup Buhari planned or participated, please name it. Serving a military govt is not the same as planning or participating in coup. You guys should stop spreading something that is untruth, purely because you are programmed by crooked politicians to hate somebody. |
Gbengazzee: I blamed the midfield and striker for not holding their place. If they had initiate more attacking football, no one would have noticed we had a weak defence. Also selfishness on the part of the strikers especially Uche, he has no reason to shot wide at goal on two occassions, when he has a team mate closer to him and in better position to score. You people should not over exaggerate their performance as very poor. I was quite impressed with Nigeria until they gave the game away considering that they were a man down for a long time. But there is a very fine line between winning a game and getting a less favourable result. If Uche was a bit more relaxed and composed in front of goal, Nigeria would have killed the game off earlier and we would had been talking a different game now altogether. But with just one goal advantage, there is always a chance that you might concede. Remember that Zambia conceded an equalizer to Ethiopia, even with a man advantage and they are the defending champions and your team didn't even make the last time. There is no small nations anymore in football, a draw against the Burkinabes are not A DISGRACE. Remember that Cameroon is not here and it was Cape Verde that knock them out to be here. |
Sir Waybijo: Disappointed. This Burkina Faso players are tall, yet we play long ball.Is Keshi dumb or plain stupid. Why did he play Ogude,Yobo and Efe.He had Azubike,Reuben Gabriel and Moses.Musa was disappointing. The state of the pitch favours only long balls. |
Nigeria should learn to contest decisions in the next game, as officials tend to take advantage of well mannered teams and Keshi should be busy making his thoughts known to the 4th official with the sort of decisions they were getting. Only a fool wouldn't see that red card coming. Ambrose body language was that of a guilty person waiting to be sent off, when he hasn't done much to deserve a free kick against him, let alone a red card. In football this days, if you don't fight for it, you don't get decision in your favour. Nice guys or teams don't get decisions often. Ask Alex Ferguson or Roberto Martinez of Wigan. |
vislabraye: Inexperience. I would blame the strikers as much as I would the defenders.Any observing/ keen coach will be at that touchline barking at his players to hold on to the ball but Keshi sitting down nervously with Amokachie. |
The state of the pitch was a disgrace if you ask me, for a mild weather/rich nation like South Africa. |
Bosuntop: Biafra national teamWith Nigerian mentality and attitude ![]() |
anitank: De Javu!!what has manchester united got to do with a Nigerian? What happens to Rangers of Enugu or Shooting Stars? ![]() |
With just seconds remaining, a goal up and you are with the ball inside the opponents area, why on earth are you desperate to score, just to lose possession that resulted in the goal? You just had to hold the ball up for few seconds to run down the time, especially with officials that give every single 50-50 decision against you. This just naive management and players on the part of Nigeria |
PointB: I think the correct question should be, why do you get hard on each time we remind folks that Buhari is an old clueless bigot who truncated democracy, and has no business seeking to benefit from it?Why do you guys kept up with this lies? Its on record that Buhari had never planned or participated in any coup in Nigeria. Why do kept thinking that by keeping this lies going that one day it will becomes the truth? Give me one example of this bigotry Buhari based on hard fact, not pepper soup joint news and the different between what you are alleging and your utterances that doesn't make you a bigot yourself? |
Wadeoye: For reasons best known to the stakeholders. Acn is the party in south west and people here vote along that line. If the acn which is their rallying points says gej implicitly or explicitely, gej may still have his way. But will that ever happen in 2015 with the merger? Of course NO and not even with the failure of GEJ. South west dont support failure even if he is their son. So, forget about GEJ winning south west in 2015 and it will too bad if you cant read the handwritting on the wall already. And in 2011, a lot of people didnt bother to vote due to the silence of acn. What makes you think its not going to happen again? One minute you are asking a girl her hand in marriage and the next you are at the altar with another girl saying, I do. Charming! |
Demdem: pa Eziachi, in as much as i believe great igbo sons exist that can channel this country in the right path, i dont think talking about Igbo presidency in 2015 is the way to go considering the fact that we have Ebele Azikwe Jonathan as President. With due respect, Igbo presidency in 2015 is an impossibility.Whoever rules Nigeria is the least of my concern. My question was, why Ngige/Igbo should a subject of VP/ That doesn't mean I am telling you that Igbo should be president. What is special attachment to them with VP? |
naijababe: Ever heard the saying ' Once bitten, twice shy' sir?what has bitten you twice? |
take dat: Instead of the Fashola-Utomi ticket, I guess I'll rather prefer a Ribadu-Utomi one. If Buhari concedes to Ribadu, he will most likely garner a lot of votes in the North, while Utomi will appeal to the quasi-intellectuals and the neutrals, and the ACN governors working for them in the SWWho did the ACN governor worked for in 2011, because last I checked Ribadu they fielded is still asking, what happened? |
Wadeoye: Is southern Kaduna now a state? PDP/GEJ sweeping south west in 2015? I laugh in Yoruba... I can convincingly tell you that apart from Plateau and Benue who will still vote along religious line, GEJ will lose in all other states in middle belt. 2015 will be different and too bad if you dont know that. I am south west and you are not - I am in a better position to advice you as to how south west will vote. GEJ will struggle to get 25% in some states here - write it down. And who did the South West gave their vote in 2011? |
Wadeoye: Buhari/Oshiomole. I dont see making an igbo man vp adding any value to the dream of evolving an alternative platform, otherwise, someone like ngige would have been a good vp candidate. Why would Ngige or Igbo be subject to just a VP option under any platform? |
No matter who you are, once you opined that someone begged, ask or cajoled you to serve the public, of which you will be well paid and rewarded, I just lose interest. In all civil societies, every honest, serious and agenda packed leaders were never ever begged to serve, in fact, they crawl on their knees begging to be allowed to serve. How will you reconciled an applicant for a job who you begged to take the job and his seriousness to do the job well? Although only very few Nigerians knew that running for a political office is like going for a job interview. |
aribisala0: Well how ever much wealth you build one day some other person will take over .Some other person with no idea how you bought or built a house will become the lord of the houseOk, lets just agree to disagree on this Calabar thing. Nice charting with you. I am signing off. Have a good evening. |
aribisala0: "bounty from god" is an idiom and bears no religious connotation. Though I note you mention "LUCK"I am not dying yet, few more years to shift ![]() Yes, ask your seniors and tell will tell you that before Lagos, Calabar was the capital Nigeria and the first place the British built their first educational institution in Nigeria (Hope Waddell College Institute) The historic king of Atankpa (Calabar) King Archibong III - was the first king in the British West African to be crowned with regalia sent by Queen Victoria of England in 1878. fact ![]() |
0lumide: IThis exactly my point, some of you say things you have no idea about, because if you have a business site, office or real estate investment in Lagos, you will not be making the above statement. Because I knew how much they take from me and family annually in tax. |
aribisala0: Maybe It pleases God to give of his bounty to whom he will.May we all find contentment in our respective share of the "CAKE"I agree with you that we will all find contentment in our respective share, but that should be on individual efforts chipped in. And for me, it wasn't a bounty from and God or gods. It came from a share hard work, effort, luck, self deprivation nice thing of life after re-starting from the scratch with 20 Nigerian £. |
