America doesn't get involved in fights based on moral grounds. There must be something there for them. Either something economic, geopolitical, or cultural... But there must be something serious in terms of solid gains. If they seriously threatened the Eritreans to leave Ethiopia to fight it out with the Tigrays, immediately after Ethiopia had serious issues with the the Egyptians and the Sudanese, then you have to draw the correlation there. You also have to look at the new Prime Minister of Ethiopia and know where he's bending towards, ideologically. China? Russia?

Ethiopia has a solid military! For her military to be easily manhandled this way, should tell you that in the Tigrays, it's more like the hands of Essau but the voice of Jacob. Again, taking into consideration the fact that the immediate regional conflict that preceded this war, was the dam issue between Ethiopia on one side and Egypt and Sudan on the other side, I wouldn't be surprised if the Egyptians are supplying the Tigray forces. Remember that Egypt was already talking about going to war with Ethiopia before this crises started..

You have to ask yourself why do the Americans want the Eritreans to back off? The involvement of the Eritreans who are some sort new strategic partners to the new regime in Addis, would have been a game changer.. The Americans getting involved by warning them to back off, should warn you of who's getting their clandestine support and most probably who's getting some weapons dropped for them at nights...

Obviously a big power is supporting this Tigray forces. Since the Nile dam dispute between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia, Ethiopia has been going through crises .
You have to remember that Egypt seriously asked the Americans to pressurize the Ethiopians on their behalf. While the Tigray forces have enough experience to fight, I don't think they really have the fighting grit to easily fend off both the Ethiopians and the Eritreans forces supporting the Ethiopians..

What kind of weak country is Ethiopia? Imagine a minority tribe holding it to ransom.

Negotiation is the biggest skill anyone can acquire. Always negotiate. Aggression should be the last weapon in any conflict resolutions cos it quickly escalate situations. The PM should have negotiated when he had the chance. You don't kill people and expect them not to fight back.
