ugo4u: Yes sir!! they have an annual defence budget of about $4billion. Those guys ain't poor oo, though they might not have the spending might of the Saudis but believe you me, with their acquisitions over the years and manpower development Saudis stands no chance against them. Even the last war they had with Israel was almost a statement with casualties of over 17000 men on both sides which saw them forcing the Israelis to negotiate a deal that saw them reclaim the Sinai that was captured by Israel in the Six day war.. lol which statement. Israel fought a war on 2 fronts and was still able to whoop the ass of the Egyptians and the Syrians even with massive soviet aid. the Israeli army was 70 km from Cairo when Sadat called the american secretary of states Kissinger to negotiate a cease fire. the only gain Sadat had was foot hold in the Sinai region but the 3rd Egyptian army was surrounded on all sides with the Israeli army on the other side of the Nile and no way for supply by sea because the Israeli navy had beaten the Egyptian navy. the only hope of the Egyptian 3rd army was port Said. So don't ever say the Egyptians fought a war to stalemate with Israel. Even today there are rumors going around that the Israeli airforce help bombed Islamist hideouts in Sinai. |

snrman: sorry to say but loosing some battles does not mean u hv lost the war. Most of all this propaganda video happen wen they attack some battalions. Nigerians r very impatient people if i must say. Its quite unfortunate that armed bandit r terrorizing sokoto n zamfara if not kudos to the NA for isolating iswap to only borno. I can authoritatively tell u that if (a big if) buhari win a 2nd term iswap will be decimated. When buhari said boko was technically defeated he was trying to score political points which is very bad. I repeat no army in Africa is better trained than the NA in guerilla tactic. Borno is a very large state, n up till now boko haram still hv sympathizers. If the US army come over here to fight iswap they is succed by bombing the whole area which we r trying to to avoid because civilians r still plenty in the area. So please try n use logic when watching most of those videos cus they r just propaganda. In every war both side loses n its quite unfortunate that we hv lost some of our soldiers. We know what we signed up for. . The only thing civilians can do for the NA is to pray for us. Funny how yall r quick to believe propaganda videos most of those videos r not the reality on down in Borno. what kind of leaves are u smoking. are blind or deaf. those guys use the NA like Walmart supermarkets to get weapons and the funny thing is lessons are not learnt when people like you are blind to the truth. |

ignant: While foreign Caucasian direct operations in conflict zones in Africa are commendable, Africans must impose themselves and take care of their situations by themselves.
We can't keep spending billions after billions in training and arming the military, including special forces, and when local operations occur, we are confronted with imagery of foreign Caucasian actors playing highly visible roles. This is unacceptable.
This conveys a lack of trust on the capabilities of our special forces and also emphasizes an obvious stereotype.
Africa must learn to handle her problems. Africans know how to use their soldiers only against civilians.lol |

And you should stop typing in all caps. What assumptions did i jump to? Those were pics of BIR, and i point out that the BIR are specialized units, aren't they? And what if they are 3,000 strong? How hard is it to kit 3,000 men, seriously? And your pic of actual Cameroonian soldiers means? What battle zone was that taken from? How many of them were deployed to that battle zone? a few hundred? Unless you are new here, i think we've all seen regular NA troops very well kitted in battle as well. Why are some of you guys bent on belittling our troops? Terrible roads in the English speaking part of Cameroun.
What a nice way to armour the Mercedes Benz lorry. Reminds me of Ukraine and the Philippines. SORRY TO QUOTE YOU BUT THOSE ARE NOT CAMEROONIAN BIRs but BTAP. BTAP(AIRBORNE BATTALION) is a regiment in the CAMEROONIAN ARMY BASED KOUTABA IN THE EASTERN REGION OF THE COUNTRY.THAT ROAD LEADS TO A REMOTE AREA OF THE NORTHWEST REGION OF CAMEROON SO YOU DON'T EXPECT IT TO BE IN GOOD CODITION IN THE RAINY SEASON.THE REGION HAS GOOD ROADS AND I ONCE WORKED THERE SO I KNOW THE AREA. |

The point is the overall formation, what's it called, Infantry i guess, are they kitted as BIR? speaking of Cameroon for example, probably not, same way NA's own aren't as well kitted as specialized units within the NA or Navy Its super easy to kit up a few hundred soldiers, when you have to do the same for 100,000, then let's see how they do it LOL STOP JUMPING INTO ASSUMPTIONS PLEASE.DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY BIR SOLDIERS ARE THERE.CLOSE TO 3000.LET ME POST SOME PICS OF CAMEROONIAN SOLDIERS IN BATTLE GEAR IN WAR ZONE. SternProphet: Chadeans are worse. Experienced but poor discipline.Their soldiers dont just run, the entire unit just disengages and withdraws. Their officer corps is shit and I hear they are owing months in salaries.
We complain about the Nigerian Army but it is not lost on us that they are actually better at COIN than US, Afghan, Egyptian and Russian Armies. What Russia did in Syria to take out rebel forces and ISIS was not COIN... but complete scorched earth destruction of entire provinces where rebels were based. We cannot do same against our own people to clear out Bokos. Afghanistan has lost 85% of the country to Taliban in spite of security spending x5 of Nigerias. Only Algeria is performing better than Nigeria but they are spending atrociously on hardware. They did a better job when BH was reigning in the North 1 or 2 years back.it took the Chadians 1 month to clean and gain territories which NA dreaded.yeah the chadians have their short comings but its a fact they can handle BH |

It's really becoming alarming.for the past 3 to 4 months it has been a series of defeats and set back for the NA. Despite the millions of dollars being poured by the Nigerian federal government the situation has not changed.I think there should be -A radical change in the NA military hierarchy. -A total Over haul of the training of NA soldiers. -Better employment of the Nigerian Special forces. They are employed like normal foot soldiers which is a Huge mistake. -A reinforcement of FOB with better defenses and structures with appropriate weaponry and ammunition stocks. -More cooperation btw the different branches of the Nigerian Armed forces. -An Overhaul on the overall strategy on how to tackle BH in cooperation with allied forces.
I think this is what NA needs best |

BabaOwen:
I don't agree with this soldiers sincerely speaking. the weapons used by BH are the same weapons they seized from the nigerian bases when they give up their position.which sort of weapon does he need again. You had T-72 tanks , you are still not able to repel attacks, you have multiple rocket launchers, you still can't repel attacks on your base, you have MRAPS at your disposal your still not able to repel an attack. Seriously speaking is it when you will be provided with T-90 or the latest military hardware that you will be able to fight BH. I feel for the guys but DEM DI EXAGGERATE ALOT AT TIMES. The means given to the NA is by by far better than what their allies have but yet you don't hear them complaining(Am not saying the allies are better but mind-set matters a lot).just look at the video Henry and others posted. Those Soldiers didn't give up their position even when facing serious shortage of admonition. SERIOUSLY 2019 WON"T BE EASY FOR THE NA IF THEY DON"T HAVE A RETHINK OF STRATEGY. |

just wish to ask a little question please. So it's those 2 tucanos that will change the situation in the North of Nigeria against BH.? |

Henry240: No need typing in capital letters, it makes reading your comments difficult.
On the Baga issue, well, not just the Nigerian army, but Cameroun and Chad included.
On a more serious note, I agree with you, the Nigerian army has now turned into a big joke. Nigerian troops need to all be banned from social media. They need to concentrate on learning how to fight. They have proven to be very disgraceful over the last 6 months, getting to 7 months now.
It however is no co-incidence. I started noticing this with the wide-spread indispline in the rank and file of the military when soldiers were allowed to dress however they like.
The Nigerian army only has 2 standard camouflage patterns, one for desert and one for woodland.
However over the last couple of months, i began to notice that some Nigerian soldiers now wore a Nigerian woodland or desert camouflage with a military T-shirt from Cameroun.
When i noticed this, i immediately wondered were platoon leaders were to arrest this situation and reign in discipline.
Those were little signs that were showing that all wasn't well in the Nigerian camp.
The Nigerian army heirachy is simply out of ideas, i never was a proponent of the use of PMCs, but it is now evident that we require serious external help. The Chief of Army Staff seems to be lost. The current crop of service chiefs should have all been fired a long time ago, apart from the Air Force chief, the Army, Navy and CDS seem to all be out of ideas.
Money is a problem in Nigeria for the military, however our biggest setback is training.
Nigerian soldiers over the past 7 months have displayed a level of poor training hitherto un-seen in Nigeria.
It is either this or the troops simply can put to action what they have been trained to do.
Strategy, this is another area were the army seems lost. They seem to be comfortable with waiting to be attacked, then getting severely beaten and overrun.
There's nothing wrong with waiting to be attacked and defending per say. The Royal Irish of the British army deployed in Musa-Qala, Afghanistan in 2008 also deployed a defending tactic.
88 men of the Royal Irish, armed with only 2 50.Cal HMGs defended their base without been overrun by the Taliban despite 55 days of continuous assault by hundreds of Taliban.
The British had aircover, but in 2008 when resources were mainly focused in Iraq, it goes to show what good training and discipline can do for soldiers on the ground.
Leadership is also lacking so badly, it is embarrassing!
When Nigerian troops say they got attacked and overrun by BHT, you look at what the Nigerian soldiers got dispossessed off....... You begin to wonder how did that happen.
One incident, 2 incidents, even 3 incidents, you can manage and say, maybe it's this unit or that unit. But with the frequency with which bases now fall, it's clear that the cancer is wide-spread and not isolated. LOL sorry for the capital and bold letters. From what a friend told me Cameroonian soldiers had left on a rotation to maroua but if in case Cameroonian soldiers where in the base then i don't know what can stop that group. be able to attacked and successfully take a base with the best contingents of 3 countries. hmmmm i portrays nothing good for 2019. Reading your response shows there is soo much to do in the Nigerian military, especially with the top brass of of the nigerian military. They sincerely need to put in place a real strategy since they are the one in command of the multi-national-task-force against BH. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by fabselad(m): 11:45am On Dec 30, 2018 |
Sorry to say this BUT WHEN NIGERIAN SOLDIERS WILL STOP POSTING PICS HERE AND THERE I GUESS THEN THEY SHALL BE ABLE TO DEFEAT BH(JOKE).BUT on a serious note 2018 has been a terrible year for Nigerians Army. Their hierarchy NEVER NEVER NEVER draws hard earned lessons (with the lives of gallant and vibrant soldiers) from defeats and set backs. No Dismissal of those who were in chain of command during the set back, no questioning on current tactics and strategy to improve, a deaf ear on complains from soldiers and commandants on the ground ETC(I can go on and on for hours). Am a Cameroonian who is a FAN of NAIJA military but seriously you guys are becoming a JOKE in AFRICA. The Nigerian Military Hierarchy should sit up and be up to the task. NoBI lack of money Be the problem but lack of ACCOUNTABILITY to the POLITICAL AUTHORITIES. In Cameroon though not perfect and under a so-called democracy which is in fact a dictatorship the military learns and adapts and even copy from the enemy.THE NIGERIAN ARMY HIERARCHY SHOULD TRY AND LEARN THAT BUYING OF NEW PLANES MILITARY HARDWARE AND GUNS WON'T WIN THE WAR BUT A PRECISE AND ELABORATE STRATEGY IN SYNERGY WITH THE TROOPS ON THE GROUND AND THE LOCAL POPULATION WOULD DO THE JOB . The Nigerian Military is far better than ANY MILITARY IN THE REGION but your Hierarchy Keeps failing the troops on the ground. I grieve for the lost of this young and vibrant men because of the top brass who behave with lack of humanity and concern to the cries of those on the ground. Sincerely if NOTHING IS DONE I FORESEE HARD TIMES FOR THE NIGERIAN SOLDIERS IN 2019. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU GUYS AND MA GOD BLESS THOSE WHO ARE FIGHTING ON THE FIELD AGAINST THOSE .....LACK WORDS TO DESCRIBE THEM |

hunter21: I don't if anybody has ever seen things like this before, that if Nigeria does get it's acts together, Boko Haram would be a childs play compared to what the country would be facing in future, to the north of Nigeria is the entire Arab world where anything can happen at anytime, what happen when all the weapons of Algerian and Egyptian armies suddenly falls in the wrong hands, not to talk of morroco, Sudan, Chad, remnants of Isis, there is a Chinese military base in Djibouti. There was a time CNN talked about Boko Haram reaching Lagos, many folk on beegeagles blog and here looked at it as a far cry, but if you take geophysical map and look at Nigeria's position, you would see how vulnerable the country really is, but I am not even sure an average Nigerian looks at maps the only thing they know is their state of origin sorry to ask did you take smoke that leaf again bro.(kidding) |

EVarn: Thing is, we don't know which army these men belong to, Nigerian or Cameroonian or Nigerien. Or it could be that it's a BH propaganda video to incite the public against the military. We have seen cases of terrorists dressed in uniform, carrying out extrajudicial killings before.
If indeed this is the Nigerian army, then the DHQ needs to investigate it.
This war is becoming too complicated, even the soldiers don't trust their superiors(or the government) anymore, they go through hell to arrest terrorists and the next thing they hear, the people they arrested have been released by "order from above", why won't they go rogue and start meting out instant justice?. My brother I beg no bi cameroonian soldiers.we get already plenty wahala for pays for add this one. from the military fatigue and the weapons used and their way of speaking It is nigerian soldiers in my opinion. |
