Let it be known to all of you going for interview for Spring 2020 and fall 2020. DO NOT EVER USE "PACKAGED BANK STATEMENT"
A packaged bank statement is the one a family member dump large sum of money in the account a month, weeks, days to the interview. This would be sum that have not been flowing through the account in recent times, at least from 1st month to like 4th month of the 6-month period.

ADVISE:
1. Make sure you read the transaction details of the statement you are going with.
2. Make sure your sponsor balance is higher than the Total Cost of Attendance for your program (this automatically boost your chance of approval should your interview get to the stage the consular ask for your bank statement (indicating he/she has concluded in him/herself you're credible)
3. Make sure the total credit (of money being deposited in the account for the period of 6 month is okay (you do not have control over this, but just check and make sure the total credit is not bad). The total credit is the sum of all the money that has been deposited over the period of 6 months. It is always stated on the bank statement. The consular would look at this figure to DETERMINE your sponsor financial strength as to whether or not they have strong and consistent financial income to successfully support you while you study in the US.
4. I recommend you get some amount of scholarship, and preferably, GA if that is position. Apply for GA, and don't just settle for the admission alone.
5. Know your sponsor, and don't just take a bank statement from someone without knowledge of what they do.
6. I know a few persons they banned this fall 2019 because of they doubt the embassy commitment on bank statement verification. They always verify if they take your statement down. So, avoid what is not real.

I hope to come here more often to join with other gurus to inform the novice and new comers.

You are right. In fact, I have 3 ladies denied this Spring because of this "dumping of fund". The consulars are now trained to look for such first before they take in the SOA for verification. Based on those i know that were recently denied, the VO went through the transactions, noticed the dump, and return the statement and refuse them.

In some cases it can be seen as red flag. For example, if your account balance has been reading 1m naira for over a year and suddenly 30m comes in within few weeks, it will raise some concerns and can be seen as redflag. so best thing is to avoid such scenario and find a way to build the account in time.

You can use it, as that is what you have from your sponsor.

People get refused. I am surprised you think this is bizarre; it is not. Recraft your response and go back. And one more thing, nairaland is known for being the place every applicant there and here curl responses used by someone else (especially by those approved). I advice that you craft your own response, uniquely to your case. Do not attempt to dodge any question when you appear again. Link your present job to the necessity of the program you are going for, and why you need it. It is not about the money in your acct, or the company you work, or your funding.

The quality of your responses to the questions determines your credibility for the F1 visa. The embassy is determined to give the visa to applicant them believe has this credibility.

our stories look similar. I was also refused the F-1 Visa and that would be my second refusal while Preparing for Spring January resumption.
Mine is more bizarre cos I have full funding. To cut a long story short, the question I remebeered that was repeated on the second interview was my family. I am married with 2 kids and the apparent suspicion I reckon could be that I am planning to abscond with them to the US. I told the VO that my wife has a big business but that peharpse sounded unconvincing meanwhile they are not going with me but would visit during vacation and I would also visit when I'm on holls. Besides my phd research entails field worl that would .evwn be done in Nigeria after about 2 yeare of course work. After the first refusal everyone including my school was like just be straight to point and maintain a simple rule : if you are not asked, don't answer; if you are not requested to, don't supply. I did this and got fokd again. I remebered I was even discussing my research with the VO on the first interview and she listened with rapt attention. About the above rule, I think some straight answers are shrouded in some negative assumption when further explanations are not rendered. Again, it seems to me like any visa for longer stay no matter what justification has got some strict restrictions recently. VO was quick to increasingly probe my family including asking the kind of work my wife does and how old my kids are but ignored the information that I managed to quease in under tense questioning that my company gave me a leave of absence and that I earn really big (who will leave such salary behind?). I have enough money in my account despite the funding and my brother also gave me his account statement and sponsorship letter (he didnt want to see that). It may be sheer luck against me but its quite bizarre. I have since braced up and become more determined than ever (pls no spiritism here, I don't really entertain such like village people things)
Lastly I am also in a big dilemma whether to try. 3rd time. And could there be a date in this December?
Its still a mystery to me why the visa was denied a second time.

The US embassy that I know is giving credible students the F1 visa on weekly basis (around admission term). If you have a valid reason, give it a try. The process is easy if you have all the information, which I advice you get from thread 14 (page number 1 contains the link).

The fact that you have been to the US and returned with a valid visa may actually increase your chance. Do start your application if you are going for fall 2020. If you conclude you will not get the visa, then don't try at all. Faith leads everything!

I am sorry you were denied. But the distance between you and your sponsor is like East to West. My uncle’s wife sister is certainly not your aunt. The relationship title of this person is outside the circle of Aunt. Think about that! I strongly believe the consular noted that and hmm in himself/herself. You can still try again.

Beside the fact that I was given scholarship, mtsu has robust curriculum as I am to take some prerequisite courses on US accounting principles, auditing & tax laws also they have cpa courses embedded in their program. This aligns with my desire to take the cpa exams upon the completion of my masters as cpa requires that you have a certain credit hour before you can take the exam.

Who is going to pay for the deficit?

Yeah I made use of ECE for undergraduate admission process and it took exactly 5 business days to complete. But for your case 5-10 days after all your documents has been acknowledged is with them.

Yes, the founding fathers failed us. May I ask, what are you preparing to do to make a difference? See, it is not about the past anymore; it is about what we--young men and women of this generation (who know better)--are willing to do. Everyone knows Nigerian failed its youths. Fine! But to whom much is given, much is required. I challenge you to hear your own call. Those who hold the perspective that the country own them everything but gave them nothing will not do anything to improve things. It is why almost every student I have met from this thread have said they will not return after studies. We are all running. I once challenged my Dad what role he played to make things better than when he was born in it. He couldn't give me a convincing answer.

I pray from the dept of my heart that may our children-even the ones we plan to give birth to outside the shore of Nigeria--grow up to be bold enough to ask us, "Daddy / Mummy, you left Nigeria many years ago because the country was not working for you. But what did you do to make things better after America equipped you with opportunities that Nigeria did not give you?" Amen!

You paid and self-educate yourself, yes. But you are a product of this nation, for our environment shapes our growth and influence our identity. Look at things from another angle, and carve out plan of what you will do for Africa and Nigeria after your education in the US. This is your task as a young African. Don't mind those people who now see Nigeria--a part of their very own identity--as a dark hell! They can say all sort of awful stuffs about Nigeria, but so long they are citizens of this country and chose not to come home to see what they (who have received better education that Nigeria denied them) can do to heal a portion of our ills as a nation (which, in fact, is even one of the duties of young citizens with capable resources), they are hypocrite! Everything is a ladder to another greater thing. Without d transcript from that our "shitty schools;" we will never get admitted to something better.

Apart from the fact that she sponsored my part of my undergraduate study, she's a business woman and we have similar interest, she owns lots of American vehicles which she uses for business mist times I maintain these vehicles because I have the necessary tools and skill, so I them told her about my plans to gain more skills and setup my own auto repair shop. She believes in my abilities and thinks with proper training and certifications I can do better and manage my own auto repair shop. She also bought the idea on the condition that I will also maintain her cars.(smiling).
VO : What's s she into?
Me: She's into real estate, oil and gas, she owns alot of gas station in the country.
The VO just reached out his hands to the white paper, saying the usual stuff and the words doing the usual in from one ear and out from the other. I just collected the paper and left.

Despite my very shallow pocket, I'd love to share my own testimony come fall 2020, and to achieve that I want to start by taking the GRE and TOEFL. By God's grace, I already have a CGPA above 4.5.

My questions:

1) With a CGPA above 4.5, do I have any advantage in my quest for a full ride?

2) I intend to write the GRE and TOEFL by October ending, and get scores capable of giving me a fully funded scholarship (mehn, I'm currently a broke ass niggar and this journey will be impossible without a scholarship). Is this timeline feasible for both exams?

3) If I get my GRE and TOEFL scores by October ending, will it be too late to get full funding for fall 2020 admission?

4) With a fully funded scholarship (without any deficit), can I get a visa without a statement of account?

6) Can I start applying to schools now without my GRE and TOEFL, and later send them my scores once available?

I was denied in Lagos, Inspire hundreds of people daily but could barely inspire myself to take that long journey to Abuja.

I have a lot to say to the Spring 20 and Fall 20 hopefuls.

I get one small advice for those of you on GA, GTA, GRA and undergrads with full-ride scholarship. I will drop it as soon as I settle down. It will definitely help those of you who wish to get your *** after graduation. I believe it is worth sharing, and as no advice is useless.
