What are the disadvantages of using 200watts bulb over charcoal in brooding pen.
I tried it few months back and I discovered some of my chickens are blind.
Heat is not evenly distributed
Burn excess fuel to power generator
Replacement of burn out bulb due to fluctuation in electric generator.
Let's discuss this in the meantime I will be experimenting on using poultry farm waste as alternative to generating heat for brooding in piggery and chicks brooding house.

One way to compete in such market is to formulate your own feed and buy and store feed ingredients when they're cheap or you plant them.

There is no large scale cassava processing company in south west that i have not sold cassava to in one time or the other, so i can tell you the best scenarios to deal with them to make good profit and otherwise.

I am very sure if you are the only person that planted cassava, you will still complain that it is not profitable because i can't fathom the business sense of you cultivating cassava in the remote Saki and expect to sell in Lagos when its not a direct-consumers produce.

I have never at any point in time label anybody a failure,i have made mistakes and have openly admit it,so other people as well but the problem is never learning from your mustake and change your strategy.
You cant keep doing the same thing and expect different result.

I think 20% after-profit sale charge is safer for people interested and also will be able to.give you confidence that i will work towards the success of the farm because if the produce is not sold,there will be no way i will deduct 20% from the profit.

This is actually better than charging management fee before the produce from the farm are sold.

The 20% charge is even smaller than collecting management fee from you before the produce are sold.

I once asked him and he said it is net profit. I think that's far better than management fee. If the farm fails you pay nothing, that's quite fare to me. Another question I have is how many yrs will you charge the 20%?

Don't ignore how helpful work animals can be. They can save you a lot from transport cost etc. If you have ever been to a farm and see how workers suffer carrying heavy loads, you will appreciate work animals. Farming with Animal Power.

Thank you all with ur contributions, we keep learning new thing everyday. It is the stress I subjected them too that caused the problem couple with heat stress and feed changed. with a rain few days back and adaptation to the feed, they are back with 68- 73% and bigger eggs, only that I have lost customers.

Good day experienced farmers in the house. please help me out of this problem. my layers started laying by December and by January they reached around 79 - 85%. Early February I discovered their production reduced to 60% which made me to suspect they are breaking their eggs and I redebeaked them immediately, two days later I suspected Newcastle in them (shellless egg) which I treated with Virucida and intergendox. during the same week I moved them to battery cage and the Topfeed I was using finished, I went for Amoo feed because Top feed is not available. Since then till now the production stand at 50% and the egg size became so small. the worst is that my customers are complain that the eggs are bad since that period. Truly, the eggs look watery when break and when cook, half of it is water. Please what have I done wrong. can it be the change in feed or the stress too much for them.

You don't stress birds like that. Debeaking and moving to battery cage shud be done b4 laying start. The feed u changed to might be low quality and don't change feed suddenly, it shud happen over a period of 2 weeks.

I really pray that this will work out for you guys.

My birds are still laying. As for restocking, I want to wait to know whether this bird flu thing will spoil market. I also experience small egg sizes but I don't know whether it's from farmsupport or myself. They once suffered from heat stress, mycoplasma G. and when feed was scarce, we have to feed a little bit less. Change is constant, so there is nothing wrong with testing other hatcheries, but I think all birds have the genetic capacity to lay larger eggs if you manage them well. The problem sometimes may be from we farmers.

They can be sized like that. For example, 1000 dairy cows is equivalent to about 250kw. These are cows fed very well with corn silage etc.

No, we said dont vaccinate sick birds or birds that appear sick. Treat them first and when they are healthy, vaccinate. In hot weather, vaccination failure is very common. Find a way of minimizing the effect by following the link I shared above. If you do that your vaccinations will likely succeed. There are also tests that can help you determine if vaccination was successful or not. It's called serological test. You do the test before vaccination and repeat it 3-4 weeks after vaccination. The result will tell you if vaccination was successful or not. That way u can avoid huge loses like the poster above. But in nigeria animal labs seem to be scarce or costly and small holders may not afford it. Those signs means sickness is somewhere. If there is a lab nearby, go for lab test, else you can give them antibiotics like tylodox with multivits. Don't vaccinate in that condition.

How old are they? Komorov injection is usually given at week 9 after lasota have been given several times. If u give komorov before lasota, many birds will likely fall sick. Most vaccinations should be done before laying starts.
