I read an article on duckweed. Researched it and apparently we can drop our feeds cost by as much as 50% feeding our birds duckweed. Interestingly it is very easy to cultivate. It is very high in protein, lysine etc and can be harvested every 48hrs. Just dry it up and mix with ground rice/corn/millet. Abeg no questions O! Google is ur friend. Who knows here to get duckweed?

sir, some of my chicks have some symptoms i.e the toes becomes curled in some the both legs becomes strechted behind such that the bird lies on its breast, they dont eat nor drink,some r already dead. Pls help me out.

Finally i took off today with 150 juvenile, but truthfully they were even bigger than juvenile, picking 3mm already but the woman said they were n weeks old despite their size, i bought @ #42 each, am starting with 2mm Multi feed. I pray God to help my testfarm , plz d advice of this honourable house will greatly be in need for guidance.

@ farmtech, please help me my broilers are all sick, i have tried all i know and now i dont know what else to do because they are dying in droves, they will be 8 weeks on monday and they did not grow for easter at all and i cant dispose them cos they aren't big and no one will want them. help me please

Pls no offence is intended. I'm asking this question from a practical mind approach not just based on the literatures we have all been reading.

Another reason why Im asking is because of NEPA most often they play with the power supply and that is why I decided to operate a light regime with over 16hrs, hoping +/-
the birds would still get the minimun light hour required.

@farmtech tnx, but what do you think about this light regime which I've been operating in the past 6weeks. 3am - 6.30pm then 8pm-10pm. I decided to maintain light off between 6.30pm -8pm because even if I keep the light on, the birds always roost once the sunset by gathering together at on corner of the pen to the point of almost a stampede. I believe thise who operate liter system experience same.

Considering the fact that these birds were fed until they started laying, would you consider the profit margin satisfactory? I'm of the opinion that the first 3 - 4 months of egg laying would be used to cover for the running costs from DOC to POL.
With that in mind, I don't see the lucrative nature of the business except that one is walking a very thin rope.

I greet all farmers in d house. pls come to my help. my birds are eating their eggs. they don't want to see eggs again as if eggs don turn into cockroaches. they are on d floor. about 200 of them, and started laying on 1st of March.

Am impressed by your post. But first, I know it is still dry up there. Quite evident from your soil conditions; how do you provide moisture?

Is there any form of mechanization in place to enable you cultivate more land area with huge reduction in drudgery?

Agriculture actually is a Science and without the mastery of the Science and Tech in it, may just be a futile fantasy. ( There maybe no difference btw you and our Parents).

Your Onions and Cabbage need specific Agro-inputs to have a successful productivity statistics. Have you taken care of these? So you don't run away next season?

I encourage you to join this group for technical and capacity building support: FARA( Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa).

By the way, I hope you have sold your onions and cabbage before going into this cultivation? They say, find the buyer before you produce.

Sorry Sir, may I add more? Your land preparation method is not quite encouraging. It seems u swept the surface with APC brooms. (lol.). That was not necessary.

You need debris, dead leaves and twigs to provide much needed organic matter and to also retain moisture from your wetting effort in addition to keeping weeds away.
