So in a bid to fix our broken glass door and protect our deposit, opted not to do DIY again and look for a professional and stumbled on a website (Mybuilder.com ),where u post your job and tradesmen can contact you and u decide if you like d person and schedule a meet.

Ended up using d website and got a fairy reasonable deal to fix it back to new and now mind is back at rest. It was cheaper Dan all what family nd friends even told us

About a week or so.
But there are some landlords that will want to stiff you for the littlest of things. So take pictures of any and everything wrong with the property before you move in and send it to the agency or landlord if you are dealing with him/her directly. You you stay long enough in the house they can't charge you for normal wear and tear.
I agree and always look thru d inventory given very very well though it may be lengthy . In my own case d inventory already shows pictures and de tailed notes of the house current situition including all d negatives, so that will be the Genesis of any fight sef grin. No be small kudi oo

Hi Guys, please help me clarify. This Security deposit house agents ask for in the process of renting a house, will they take our 1st Month rent from there? Or the money will be forever tied down? Coz it's a lot of money if it's going to be separate from rent.

Waiting for sabi elders. Thank you.
I believe it has been answered, d deposit should usually be 6weeks rent and will be registered by d agent or LL in a DPS. Some property has high deposit which is one of the things to look for and makes u decide to choose or let go of a ppty. Welldone dear. It will soon end.

Welcome to the UK mamatukwas, I am still a learner so far in this UK hustle oo, I get wanting to contribute to income it's not easy.

Depending on ur kids age, u may want to start searching schools to put them in, I know for 3yrs old kids get like some hrs in a yr free which is like 3 hrs free per day or so.

If you don't have ur NI and driving license u may use d opportunity to get that processes sorted and den register on reed, indeed, total jobs to register for job searches. Also u may want to target trainee PM jobs, the PMP is a good have dough even at dt some told me dey need at least 6months UK experience with driving license but we keep looking.

In d meantime u can try search for recruiting agencies for part time jobs as production assistants and all, you can ask around your location.

Also, settle ur house asap because d cost will soon start piling up. If I remember any thing else I will add and I am sure the elders will soon come and shed more light on the issue.

Enjoy yr stay.

N.B:- always tailor ur CV and cover letter to suit the job advertised as long as it is related

You need 3 things, copy of ur transcript, certificate and a letter from your school stating the medium of instruction.

It's quite easy just make sure everything u scan is very clear not to waste time. The only issue that u will get is with the tracking and our post office wahala.

Simply put as cost.. Hollow sandcrete is block is cheaper. I would also say weather determines alot because I can't imagine using hollow block with the weather.

Yepeeeeee!!! Justwise freed me at last ooo. Thanks to everyone that pleaded with him cheesy

To all who have wished me well on the PTE WhatsApp group, I say a very big thank you.

My time line is a rough one as you will see below; but to God be the glory,

Started with Canada runz in October 2014 when an agent kept calling me seriously to apply before January 2015 (saying the pool system will be in effect) I yimu grin grin and said make I pay N380,000 for this Jonathan period; lailai.
Reality dawn on me just before the election in 2015 and I regretted badly.

I registered for IELTS EXAM sept 2015 (LSWR - 6,6.5,7,7) I was able to go in to the pool but the points aren’t much (Canny). I
continued with the hustle and registered for job bank and began to see if I'd get employers nomination, for where??

In January 2016, I applied for exploratory visit to Manitoba where applicants can visit regions like Winnipeg, Brandon etc. Only 800 people are chosen worldwide (I wasn't picked).

February 2016, I took another IELTS (LSWR - 7,6.5,7,7) just to raise to the points in the pool. u
Wow. Real hustle. Thank God it has paid off. Congratulations boss

Ya, I saw that post, in fact I read every full stop and comma in that post cos that was what I suspected initially.
However, my profession happens to be on the shortage occupations list so I doubt if that's the real issue, something in their reply to my mail gives me the impression they haven't even started applying for the COS.
Let's assume there are no COS issues, how long does it normally take to process an offer of employment on the average?
Really depends on company's policy and all but COS application is once every month and usually on the 10th if it hasn't been changed recently. Just follow them up and see

Informative, would keep these in mind when I rent my own flat. Hope you're settling in well.
.

Thanks my brother, settling in well oo. Until d unfortunate thing happened.

I locked myself out all.because of this stupid jamkey set (naija village type) while I was trying to attend to a contractor. My own options in this situation was either I wait for the agent to bring an extra key for 3 5pounds (I thunk it was the best) but they were quite far away as it was a weekend

2. Back door (unfortunately locked naija style)

3. D ktor offered to break one small glass attached to the door to turn d lock from inside

4. Tried picking the lock *too much American movies.
Harder than it looks and would have used YouTube but fone was locked inside.

I had to go with option 3, currently browsing for DIY methods of fixing this because I am even scared of calling for a quote grin. #ijebuthings.

So I have been staring at d broken glass now for days.

Suggestions on ow to fix this at the lowest possible cost oo biko.

If NI wasn't issued with BRP, one needs to apply for 1 via telephone.

One has to be careful with answers given because they can schedule u for appt which can further delay ur process.

Example, where was ur visa issued? U say Nigeria not UK but u picked up ur BRP in the UK.

A friend was called in for this..

Can one ever stop comparing places like this to naija where we lack 1 of the most basic amenities such as water??

Relocating isn't east fa, I miss my naija undecided, u need to be Internet savvy to survive in this type of world and be ready to read and research because most things u need are online.

Things to do in moving to a new home:
1. Go thru d inventory document u r being given before u sign
2. Take pictures for the sake of ur *chest cutting* deposit
3. Register for water with Severn trent (this was the easiest for me no seren ren grin)
4. Choose an electricity provider, one can use money supermarket website to compare.
In my own case i settled for SSE because I couldn't go thru the stress of switching jare. But dre Scottish accent for customer service is a disadvantage
5. Used money supermarket to determine d strongest in my area and settled for it.

Tip: do this early enough because it takes more Dan 1 week for ur order and installation to come thru. U will just be staring at d wall of ur new house.

6. Browse for malls and stores near u and exercise ur body by strolling dre if not so far like 2miles smiley

Tip: ensure u browse d stores well well because u can find cheaper alternatives (15 eggs can be seen fo 1.18 and 6 eggs can go for the same 1.18). You can't shop in a rush here, toooo [oooo many alternatives for JJC like me.

7. For now i shop for groceries at Morrisons, home items at poundland or poundworld, bread at spar (sweet like naija own).

More updates to come

everything is DIY except you have family members nearby and less busy/unemployed lol

and the good thing about it is you can also look online for people that assembly flat packs!!

If you order from iKEA you can pay extra to have it set up- and other old ones recycled.

cant be easy moving in with just you and a toddler. have you checked for nearby playgroup/nursery schools to get him/her off your hands for some few hours
Thanks. Will check the IKEA out, trying to work on the playgroups.

I was able to get some basic furniture from Age UK at ridiculously cheap price. I however don't care about premium furniture. A couple of other charity shops too sell good furniture at reasonable price.

Facebook marketplace in your area is worth checking out as some people even give out stuffs for free as long as you're willing to move them yourself.
