*FRSC assures accident free celebrations



The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Wednesday, flagged off “Operation Eagle Eye” in readiness to emergency occurrence, during the 2022 Yuletide.

North West zonal Coordinator of the agency, Iman Garki at the flag-off, said that the exercise would check road traffic abuse, as well as reduce emergency risks in Kaduna.

He said Operation Eagle Eye is a complimentary effort of NEMA to collaborate with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), whose primary mandate is road traffic management to be able to secure the roads throughout the Yuletide.

“NEMA is very much interested in reducing disaster of any form. Hence, the need for this collaboration to ensure that safety on the roads,” he said.

He appealed to motorists to be on the side of caution as they ply the roads this season.

“Road Safety is everybody's business, I urge motorists to abide by traffic rules and speed limit to stay alive," he advised.

In his remarks, FRSC Sector Head of Operations, Solomon Igbogbo, thanked NEMA, while pledging continued collaboration and support of the FRSC Kaduna Command to the agency.

He said that accidents cannot be totally stopped, however, the mission is to ensure that nobody dies.

Igbogbo, assured that the joint exercise would ensure a zero accident Yuletide in the state.

Secretary, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Kaduna State, Hassan Ibrahim said the programme would raise consciousness to persuade drivers to drive safe.

He said the union would continue to sensitise its members to ensure strict compliance to road regulations in 130 branches of the state.

Assistant State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Josephine Jatau in her remarks, said it is necessary to synergise as use of drugs relates to road crashes.

She called on residents to ensure that issues of drugs abuse are addressed from the homes to save lives.[/quote]

Speaking at the event, Hon.Odebunmi, said the program was organized to sensitise selected youths on dangers of drug abuse and encourage them to be useful members of their societies.

The lawmaker, who was represented by his Special Adviser, Mr Maruf Ajibolu, noted that the youths being the backbone of any society, the drive to rid them of peddling and abusing illicit drugs has become necessary.

A consultant Psychiatrist, Dr.Adeola Oduyebo who noted that drug abuse was a social threat to the youth disclosed that it was high time all hands remained on deck to eradicate it.

Dr Oduyebo explained that use of Marijuana, Colorado,Tramadol,skunk and Skoochy among others caused physical and psychological side effects on the body.

An Officer of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, Ogbomoso, Mrs Bukola Adeoye maintained that the agency was jacking up its sensitization and enlightenment Programs on dangers of drug abuse .

Mrs.Adeoye also gave assurance that the agency would continue to be up and doing in the fight against all forms of drug abuse.

Two of the participants who spoke to Journalist described the program as an eye opener and pledged to make use of all they learnt.[/quote]
