olujaidi: why not? most fixed income Mutual funds do what an average investor should be doing...... they just search around for higher yields and just invest there.. at the moment i can do a FD in Heritage bank and get 12%...all i have to do is the leg work to find a bank branch that really needs the deposit. and at the end they still charge you asset manager fee which at times could be up to 10% of your earnings |

DMerciful: Kindly expatiate on this. what is fixed income mutual funds and how can i go about it? Sincerely I don't know much about Mutual funds.. will have to read a lot more there maybe cos am not a fan of the product. I have however invested in the Fidelity Securities Bond Linked Investment notes when it was at 13.75% guaranteed return. see link below where we have experts already discussing more on it. but note that its not Risk free like Treasury Bills of FGN bonds https://www.nairaland.com/1912965/mutual-funds/16#39082903 |

ukay2: So my oga @ the TOP...
So one should go into Stock exchange market for now...
Which 3 stocks will likely give a good return of investment in the short and medium term so that I can make some personal research and probably purchase them with my small liquidity... Stock market is not for the fain hearted o!! do you have the liver to take losses? i speculate in the market and also have some long term positions too... but for the speculations i do; i also put a 10% stop loss! That way am able to bail out with a small haircut if the trade goes bad but for TBholders....its time to take some risk in the Fixed Income Mutual funds with guaranteed returns |

ukay2: Please my oga feelamong...
When will these excess liquidity dry up for us to enjoy our high interest rates ?...
My two NTB expire February and September 2016...bought them at high interest rates then. Bros we no sabi o! I think its a deliberate policy by the CBN to force down interest rates so that banks could lend to businesses; considering the facts that we are now staring at 2 qtrs. of negative GDP growth and that will only mean recession. but on a personal note I think as soon as the govt of PMB starts making fiscal expenses, CBN will have no option but to mop up the excess liquidity in the system.. |

yomi007k: Wat abt FGN bonds. FGN bonds are also suffering from the same excess liquidity issues. Yields have been dropping massively there. But if you are willing to go long....4 - 15 years its yields are still better than what we see in Tbills now. There is primary auction for FGN bonds on the 11th of this month. Talk to your bankers or investment advisers if you are interested. |

Damolaskynov: Hi house, Just got informed that GTbank was not successful at today's bid. I bidded for 91 day tenor at the bank's rate, will have to look for other opportunities to invest as T bills doesn't look too rosy for now. Will keep following the trend here sha Seriously I think Tbills are as dead as dodo now! Its time to go and look for more risky investments... however I have just confirmed that one can still gate up to 11% in some banks FDs. as for me na to begin go studio to record my new album! |

electrify: I think you're much knowledgable in this sector. I have a question to ask. Q: I walked into Diamond Bank on the 30th of October, 2015 and booked/applied for a TB for about 6-digits at 9%. Some hours later I received a debit of an amount less than what I opted for. Now, the Customer Care lady said(I think that's how it works too) that I would get an upfront interest credited after the transaction. But, till nlw I am yet to get such alert.
What could be the issue? Hope I am in safe hands? Please kindly explain what might have gone wrong or right?
I appreciate. The way Tbills work is that you are debited for the discounted value immediately. so you have your upfront left in your account. at the end of the agreed tenor the face vale (principal invested) is then credited into your account. so my dear...there wont be no such alert until your TBills mature. |

megainvest: @ myjoy084 this your picture is very funny but true. BnSitL What are your stock picks for 2016? YEA! I have decided to close stocks purchase for the year... I will only keep buying UBA CAP as the price drops...for sure 20k is certain and at 1.30 or below.......that is about 15% dividend yield even bank placement or Tbills or bonds cannot get this sort of return in the next 90 days. Also I have just seen how much they also made from packaging the recent Transcorp hotels bond.. |

Adesiji77: With the much-touted liquidity in the market, it seems the only way the interest rate on T-bills can go is south!
Cc: ednut1, Caracta, Tinyemeka, slydog, davide470 You are very correct.....this auction will even see lower rates.......see below the info I got from one of the banks I deal with yesterday on the system liquidity at the moment. Money too Much!! The Treasury Bills market opened with a continued and aggressive rally on the back of a robust system liquidity. This led to some short tenor bills losing 150bps. However, by close of trading, short and mid tenors lost about 70bps while the long end declined 35bps on the average. Barring any external shocks to the system, the bullish sentiments should continue to hold sway until system liquidity thins out later in the week.

Ronkuns: The Facts Behind Oando’s shocking Bottom-line Loss
Oando’s 2014 results were to say the least disappointing. However, the negative figures are an attempt to align the company’s finance to the reality of its business operating environment. In its Facts behind the figures exposition on the result, the bulk of the loss in Oando’s books emanated from non-cash write downs on its revalued assets particularly its upstream assets which were acquired at the time oil price was trading at above $100 per barrel. A breakdown of the administrative expense alone as reported on the income statement reveals that Depreciation, Impairment and other general administrative expense accounted for a princely N271.875billion. The impairment charges emanated from non-cash write downs on its upstream assets which had to be revalued consequent upon the crash in crude oil prices in the global market.
N’Billion FYE2014 FYE2013 Depreciation 18,897 9,980 Impairment 167,317 858 Other Gen. Admin 85,661 30,559 Total 271,875 41,397
While the loss looks scary, the fact is that Oando seems to be doing the needful by ensuring integrity in its financial reporting via recognition of the impairment losses on its assets . In itself impairment loss cannot be solely blamed for Oando’s scary loss, it should be borne in mind that the devaluation of the naira in 2014 also did more harm than good to the company’s fortune as a bulk of its revenue are in dollars and as such incurred foreign exchange loss on its revenue upon strengthening of the dollar against the naira.
In similar vein, the fundamentals of Oando’s business are still intact. Its productive capacity from both upstream and gas business are on the increase on the back of various expansion projects which have been successfully concluded. At the moment, Oando currently boast of a 150km of gas pipeline with which it transmit gas across the country. Its annual gas production will be on the uptrend as more pipeline projects are completed while crude production is also on the increase. The company’s debt incurred for the Conoco Philips transaction has been significantly paid down with the net debt standings at circa $453million from whopping circa $900million.
In the light of the foregoing, we do foresee an improvement in Oando’s operating performance in the near future as the oil and gas titan has done the needful in revaluing its asset and recognizes the impairment losses in one fell swoop. This is expected to free it from future impairment loss obligation and subsequently improve its bottom-line.
The market has already started reacting negatively to the result but we see a situation where the stock price will end up over-reacting to this news based on sentiments rather than hard-nosed analysis. Discerning investors should look out for this period as an entry opportunity.
Best Regards,
Research Department research@arthurstevenng.com good attempt to make a bad situation look a bit good.. who said we will not be seeing more recognition of impairment losses as the price of crude oil falls more to $20 as predicted by JP Morgan? Oando is now a junk investment......really a shame that i was trying to acquire a riq on the back of my Oando shares.. now na to siddon look OANDO i dey now.. |

manie: Instead of keeping a 3 bed room bungalow at Ikorodu, which is valued at N5 million and generates rent of 250k. I will sell such a house at buy FBN at N4.00. This will give me 1.25 million units of FBN shares. FBN managed to make EPS of N1.50k In 9 months, hopefully EPS at the end of the year will be around N1.80k. If a conservative dividend of 60k is paid, I will go home with a dividend after WHT of 675k and a probability of a higher dividend next year, compared to a rental income of 250k. Bros are you Monkey Hunting on this FBN? |

Manonamission:
A 2nd read of your post after checking the result got me cracking. So Uncle Wale knows there are "matters arising" from this result. Damage control needed on the floor of the NSE. Chai!!!
I am almost sure of one thing though, they have a plan to protect the share price. Hence the need for this meeting. Why schedule a meeting same day result was released? The unfolding events might also give us a clue to the 60M units traded the other day. A big boy couldn't just bear it any longer (my own theory). Forget the corresponding price increase.....that one na O and O gimmick. clearly Wale and friends were mopping up the shares.. but that cannot save them! how many dem wan mop finish..... lets see how much loss their 3rd qtr go post make we fixe entry price........buying Oando wan turn to sports betting soon! |
