if you do fixed deposit and the bank goes bust nko?

pls Is Mutual Funds risks free like T.b?? e.g if anything goes wrong maybe in the future hope my capital is guaranteedhuh
It is not fully risk free. If its a guaranteed return then you only face the risk of the fund company going bust!

i want you people to know one thing Mutual fund is more than a scam in Nigeria. I have invested in almost all Mutual fund in Nigeria none has ever return more than 1.5% has dividend. has for NIGFUND, i haven't heard any thing from them since the past five years.
i pity Nigerians
Oga NIGFUND is now Investment one Fund!

just go there and get your meagre return on your investment there... grin

ernie4life:
Oga feelamong how can you say fixed deposit beats mutual funds!!! huh Please tell me the bank/ investment house that can fix 50k at 12% for 6months?

Truth be told if you have huge funds then you could go for something higher like bonds or Tbills but yet again some funds are tenured for 3months and the yield are better than Tbills which may be less than 10%

I accept you've had an ugly experience in mutual funds but that does not mean the likes of FBN MMF, stanbic mmf and Co have not performed more than 10% over the years, mutual fund is no scam, it just that most people don't understand the fact that just like every other investments you need to understand it properly before you pick the one to invest in.

Take for example kgif paid me 13% for first and second quarter of this year, that's a nice ROI if you ask me, and it's guaranteed so I simply invest and go to bed because am assured of my investment.

In my opinion I will suggest you play safe next time
I will repeat this anywhere!! Mutual funds is for lazy investor!!

I can go to many banks now and get 12% on my N1M deposit.....it only takes me going to branches or seeking out account officers that have targets to meet!

If KGIF is 13% guaranteed then its no more like your usual mutual fund! I will always seek for better returns on my loose money and that is why I spend time reading on investments and also talking to bankers all the time.

why would anyone invest his hard earned money in a fund that will be earning him 6 - 8 % p.ahuh

What is crr for private sector funds now?
According to @RenCap the CRR has to be reduced to 23% (from 31%) to neutralise the impact of the TSA

My dea

Hahaha. Na so I see my 11% return to 4%
At all at all na him worse pass.

I should have exit yesterday but I was so busy to observe the market. I placed a sell order trap but the price did not fall through by eod.

Better luck next time.

On another note- this TSA issue may affect the price of banking stock heavily. Fbn and zenith will be most affected by the policy. It is no longer business as usual. All fg institutions and parastatals ncluding nta, fed govt sec schools and major institutions including nnpc, customs, immigration were moved to CBN account yesterday.

Before now I know banks provide for 75% but now, even the 25% banks enjoy is no more. They are now paid processing fee which is n5 naira per 1000 naira collected . this is still attractive but cannot be compared to the float income the collecting banks have been enjoying- weekly and monthly.
State institutions likewise have started consolidating their accounts. In my very eyes, a state govt arm moved all their money from many banks to one bank (not CBN yet).

Heads will roll . time for plan b,c,d .....if you earn your pay from DMBs .
its not as bad as its being made to look....yesterday CBN sent a memo adjusting the CRR for private sector funds

trust our banks to get a lot more innovative and surely there will be loads of jobs losses...but better times ahead for the country as a whole!

CBN to refund CRR to ameliorate TSA outflow. TSA becomes neutral on banks. No more need for doom and gloom on this subject
InvestmentRe: Mutual Funds by feelamong(m): 10:54am On Sep 15, 2015
All these funds self!!

where do they invest all this their monies that gives these very tiny and meagre returns??

I have been investing in FGN Bonds and Treasuries bills since jan and have never gotten any yield lower than 12%. Infact from my checks the average yield I have is 13.22% and that is only becos I leave some funds on call in the banks for some days before I invest some times...

even doing fixed deposits beats these returns!!

anyway Mutual Funds is for lazy investors and as such they should get lazy returns!! grin

The greatest applaud in these recent panic selloff was that our CBN has awake to the reality of standing their ground in defense of their functionality and purpose. No where in the world that external forces were allowed to make decision for a particular country CBN, So, JP Morgan Index should go to hell! We will surely survive this! Seriously, positive change has come to Nigeria to stay! Blessing in disguise! Thank you God grin
Gbam!!

Anybody who has read Investment Bikers by Jim Rogers will understand why CBN should be applauded for not falling to the whims and caprices of these briefcase portfolio managers!

yes we need FDIs but not portfolio managers that are only fair weather friends!

Once again Kudos to the CBN gov for this!

I will always support small term pains for long term gains!

(Insha Allah!! we must make money this year!)

Massive opportunity for those that couldn't buy the last time...

just bear in mind that most of the offers you see in the Itrade platform are from Stock broking firms trying to short sell their customers shares and then to buy back at lower cost....

its time to swim with the sharks and hunt with the hares...

I will start buying UBA 2,000 units once daily until I get my fill at whatever amount the bleeding stops...

Thank God I sold half of my holdings yesterday as I got to the 30% I usually trigger to sell half of my speculative punts..

Oga feelamong! i need you on this;

i went to gtb to apply for TBill but they were turning me around so divided to transfer mt money to FBN but while i was at FBN after i filled the form i could not find anything like RATE on the form so i engaged the account officer incharge but she told me that TBills don't bid rate that it is CBN that will give me the rate. I was like ha! but i decided to risk it and applied for 182 days. When i got my interest yesterday, i calculated it and it was 13.5percent. i was so happy because i discovered that it was CBN stop rate.
good one for you!

I bidded for 14.8%.....
stop rate was 15.36%....
You bid for yourself....
Primary market....
I use Stanbic Ibtc bank, not investment house....
In FGN Bonds, every customer that bidded below the stop rate is given at the Stop rate!

so even if you bid at 14% or 13%, when the stop rate is 15.36% you will be given the Bonds at that 15.36% rate

this is unlike in Tbills where you are given the Tbills at the rate you bidded for.
