Femotech123: Glory be to God. The story long and rough no be small. To see money for ticket that time na die, but we thank God today. I was stranded in Queens, NY, before reporting to school. I left school in Chicago after my first semester in December, 2014 (even though I made straight A's in all my courses). I was supposed to get a scholarship but the state of Illinois had some issues with funding at the time, and I no get money to pay. I moved to Texas to get a friend to co-sign for me to get a student loan with Discover, but that fell through. I later Joined the U.S. Army after I collect green card in March, 2016 (they paid for my first masters and I am currently doing the second one they are paying for as well), and I am working in IT as a Cloud Security Engineer now after I got out. Anything is possible in this country with hard work, prayer and patience. Most importantly, no dey follow anybody do competition, move with the right people, and stay in your lane. 39 Likes |

I got my visa in July, 2014 and this thread was really helpful at the time. I just want to pray from the bottom of my heart for all those seeking the U.S. student visa on this thread; God will grant your heart desires. 32 Likes |

My utmost respect and admiration go to Walspring and Imperiouxx and a few others for having the time to be here in spite of how busy people can get in this country. I am inspired by you people. I pray that God be with those looking to get their student visas in the U.S. However, bear in my mind that getting the visa is just the starting point; you must be prepared to work relentlessly and assiduously to make it here. And ultimately, patience constitutes an integral part of any success story too. Stay blessed peeps!!! 9 Likes |

Peeps, I want to know if the study materials from "selfstudy360@gmail.com" are still the most recent as I plan to write the GRE and Toefl again. While some schools said my 4.0 GPA from my school in Illinois- alongside other supporting documents of course-, would be suffice for a PhD admission, others like MIT, Berkley and Princeton, although with fantastic packages, blithely alluded to the fact that having a good Gre score would stand me in good stead with respect to admission decision. Also, I would be more than happy to know if there are other materials I could use in lieu of the ones in the above-referenced email. Thanks! |

Slimmy, thanks man! I look forward to hearing from you when you are able to come up with any schools. There is no giving up; I got no choice but to keep my head up and keep forging ahead. Walspring, thanks bro! |

How are things going with you Imperiouxx, Walspring, Zeezahbee, slimmy and everybody? I trust God is in control... I completed a semester in my school in Illinois last year for my masters, was told to I was gonna be in a good stead to get a full GA the second semester if I had a GPA of at least 3.0/4.0 by 2 of my professors, I got 4.0/4.0 but they told me the department was not gonna get funded till fall session and I would definitely qualified if I can maintain my GPA. To cut the long story short, I had no money for another semester before getting the full GA with monthly stipend in the fall- and I did try relentlessly to raise the money-, so I left school. I am sorting myself out now financially and getting myself back in status-wise, and I should be back in school by spring 2006 by God's grace. I need a list of schools that would be my best bet as regards getting funding, and is it possible for me to apply for Phd directly by transferring my credit from my former school? Cheers!!!! Between, I am studying Political Science.... |

zeezahbee: Thanks Azeezat! She is 21 and she graduated in 2010. She already filled tailoring, so giving her a stick is pointless. Besides, it is not unheard of for people her age to be clueless apropos of exactly what to do with their lives at such a young age. Could you clarify your submission when you said she needed to refill that ds-160 with great caution? Slimmy said not to alter the info she already supplied. |

Hello everybody, Congratulations to those who recently got their visas approved, and good luck to those planning on going to the embassy. I have 2 questions: 1} A friend was denied on Thursday and she said the VO- amongst other regular questions- asked her if she had any experience as a nurse in Nigeria because she is going for her bachelors in nursing. She said no, but she has a strong passion for caring for people. However, she filled the fact that she learns fashion designing after she left secondary school in the ds160 form. Now, she wants to apply again and I know she does not need to pay another sevis fee, but will she need to fill another ds160 form so that she can add nursing experience to the form or will she go to the second interview without tampering with the ds160 form? All suggestions are welcomed..... 2) Can anybody give me a list of schools that do not require sat and toefl? This friend of mine has consistently been on my neck despite repeated advice to him on the contrary... Thanks! |

House, I need your advice on concerning the plight of a friend who already secured admission with Troy and wants me to help her pay SEVIS fee from here. She said an agent helped her secure the admission using Oluwole statement in her dad's name. I discouraged her from patronizing an agent and to desist from taking an Oluwole statement to the embassy. Her uncle is sponsoring her as her dad is based in the UK. Does she contact Troy to intimate them of a change in sponsor so they can issue a new i20? Can she just use the i20 since the space with sponsor's name is blank and she has to fill in the sponsor herself. In other words, she can just fill in her uncle's name in the space provided for sponsor's name and proceed? Thanks! |

Peeps, I would like to know which is better between Discover and CapitalOne credit cards for a student. I must say I know next to nothing about this and I am only just beginning to research both. All suggestions will be appreciated- including the ones better than above-mentioned... Also, here is wishing all those at various stages of their visa application process divine intervention and mercies. 1 Like |

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly do I stand to benefit from having SSN and State ID. I can understand the use of driver's license, but I want those that have gone before me to explain the former to me. |

I just want to reiterate the respect I have for people like: Imperiouxx , BigFrancis, Msnas, Ojap and the others. Apparently, they are all doing a fantastic job of coming here regularly to help out despite their expectedly busy schedule. One can't begin to describe how tough settling down here can be. I work 6 days a week at the University diner, submit reaction papers, do assignments and make presentations every other week. All the same, glory be to God. @Temi4Fash, thanks for asking about me man. May God grant the heart desires of everybody on this thread. I find it hard to legislate for people, but those still in Nigeria should endeavor to write at least one standardized exam to increase their chances at the embassy. God go answer our prayers.. MsNas, what's good sis? Got an email saying SSN is ready for collection tomorrow morning 2 hours ago. Still gunning for the tuition waiver and stipend sis. And 2 of those professors would send me emails to come to their office so that we can discuss world and Naija politics 2 Likes |

Lana14: @Feexo,I did Gre, just asking on behalf of a friend. Bros, I am fully aware that God is key in any of our endeavors. I never said people should depend on the documents they are taking to the embassy and eschew a closely-knit relationship with God. I made my submission on the basis of my observation on this thread, and I believe whatever is what doing might as well be done well. I see nothing wrong in trying to fulfill the requirements to the best of one's ability. God will continue to guide and direct us as we also try to play our part as we do the needful. Happy Sunday! MsNas, how far now? 3 Likes |

Lana14, my school name is Western Illinois University. I wrote both the GRE and Toefl. In fact, during my interview, the visa officer actually requested for those standardized exams and SOA. Also, the school requires the Toefl, and also the GRE for most of its programs. On a personal note, I am yet to come to terms with people's desire to evade exams, when same prepares one for graduate studies and also increases one's chances at the embassy... 3 Likes |

bigfrancis21: Thanks bro! The thing is both of them told me to start next-week, and the officials coming to issue the SSN don't come until around mid-September. I applied with my school ID and international passport pending when I get my SSN. I plan to send an email to the lady in charge of student employment and SSN and seek her guidance. I might as well give her a call as I have her phone number. What do you think? |

I have been told to resume for work at the university cafeteria next week, but they only gave me like 8 hours, with the supervisor saying I would get more hours as others drop their hours due to academic pressure. Also, I had an interview at the Burger King on campus today also, and I was told to come back for training tomorrow with like 11 other Americans, with a view to starting on Tuesday. Interestingly, the supervisor in her address said everybody could only work a maximum of 30 hours per week- I believe she thought all the interviewees were Americans. She also said to bring school ID and SSN tomorrow noon. I promptly accosted her after the interview and explained my situation to her, and she said my passport, I-20 and school ID would be suffice. I have completed the documentation for SSN issuance earlier today as I had gotten another job earlier today. The lady in charge said to come by her office on Tuesday so that I can fill the necessary form, because those who are in charge of issuing the SSN are coming by mid-September. I need money and na the whole 20 hours I wan dey work. Am I on course? |
