Brand name? if you don't mind? the ones I saw here were in the 200s but were solid global names

EgunMogaji2:
Also this is Nigeria, sometimes not drawing attention to ones self is part of survival.

To each his own.

Your point is well taken

n3xt:
Yes! This is metal slat wall. I’m adding a pergola shade and some interesting features to the walls soon.

Picked some floral and lights for the wall and ceiling

This is the point I have been trying to make, let us give our walls some personality and a voice, walls well designed can draw attention.

Not just the main structure.

Godspeed

n3xt:
This is from an ongoing project. I’m adding wood structure later in the week or next week.

Wood in addition to the metal rails (they look metal to me)?

Looks good.

EgunMogaji2:
Certainly won’t be cheaper but I’m specific about what I want. What you’re showing is what I’ve been seeing at stores in Nigeria. I saw what I wanted on a Ghana show.

Thanks.

This link may have what you want, but it might not be brand new https://www.nairaland.com/okemkpi/

Thanks for sharing. Yes, Something like that.

I think I saw that in Brains and Hammers, had to source for the pictures online though

flexyonline:
I believe what you are talking about is what I have in my house (required by estate covenants)

That's nice

EgunMogaji2:
Yeah, I'm thinking I'm going to have to bring over from Ghana.

Cheaper? Why?

n3xt:
I’m making something similar this week.

Looking forward to it

EgunMogaji2:
It actually exists here but I’ve only seen it used as a privacy divider and not a primary security one.

Probably in Estates between flats.

But it seems the majority of houses and estates prefer high hollow blocks

I am thinking of a low hollow block wall and some wooden contraption between my house and the next to serve as a sort of privacy fence

something along the lines of

n3xt:
I think there are several others. You can change your search query. Most people don’t use ‘privacy fence’ here.

Thank you.

I don't want to believe that we do not have these kinds of structures in Nigeria

Something along the lines of

Almost no posts on privacy walls except this https://www.nairaland.com/1236563/privacy-fence-lekki-construction-blog/1 and this https://www.nairaland.com/219094/these-home-designs-sell-nigeria/

Any good reason for this?

Does this price include the stand?

You think so. If a state governor or somebody at the corridors of federal power makes employing a 'dummy' for PWC to get a lucrative deal, you think PWC will not employ the 'dummy'?.

Banks do this a lot, if you know you know

n3xt:
Welcome layman

In theory of structure, the strength of a building lies in the column supporting the structure and not the blocks.

That’s why frame structure is the acceptable standard for construction worldwide.

Columns carries the load and not the blocks. So pouring slurry into the hollow blocks would only add more load to your building than strength.
You might end up creating another major problem while trying to solve a simple one.

As chairman of layman builders council of this forum, I’d recommend you introduce columns into critical areas of your build.
Talk to your structural engineer about this

________

I’d share picture of a massive storey building that was built with 6 inches hollow block. It’s more than 2 decades old and it’s still very solid.

Your wisdom is appreciated.

Thanks very much

n3xt:
This is awesome. You definitely must be a black belt holder in construction to require this for your DPC.

Let me talk to my butyl tape supplier.

I am a layman who reads a lot, is very inquisitive and wants to do the best that can be done with he funds that are available.

But I read up to understand what the experts are doing so I can interact intelligently with them and most importantly to ensure that I am getting the quality that I deserve at a reasonable price point.

Thanks to you guys, I know that 16mm is fine for columns (pillars) for a bungalow. Same as my builder suggested.

That the lintels should be tied together to hold the house together.

That the quality of our blocks is worrisome.

That there can be no concrete parapet unless the wall has been prepared to carry those weights.

One question though, how about pouring weak concrete into our hollow walls, does anyone do this? Is it recommended?

I am particularly concerned by the DPC stuff because I have lived in homes with rising damp and someone really close to me had a health problem from it.

Finally rising damp is one of the reasons driving my renovation project.

I am using that opportunity to fortify the building with columns(pillars)

A lot of ground has been covered over the years.

Most certainly

There's gold on these streets.

This resource is an encyclopedia of building knowledge.

Few of my questions have been answered directly but using Google and creative searching of this site has yielded a lot of information that would otherwise have been hard to come by.

Thanks to all who started this thread and all who contribute to keeping it alive.

To illustrate, I wondered how do I get original rebars for a renovation project and I found TigerTMT.

I then searched and I saw their site and was able to get the contacts of their distributors in my area.

Needless to say, given the presence of fakes in our market, that validation of quality means a lot to me.

Sadly, there I am still on the lookout for genuine sellers of butyl rubber, plastic sheets, bituminous felts for DPC.

Any leads will be highly appreciated.

Oh yes, I have received it. Sorry I've not updated this.

Lovely cause I have been considering doing business with him.

Thanks for the feedback.

nnamokenna:
Hello @Acunon. I am now beginning to get worried. Tomorrow will make it exactly 7 days since you purportedly waybilled the television I paid you for. I have not yet received it. I keep calling the numbers on the screenshot you sent to me, but no one ever picks.

Please get in touch with them and let me know what is actually going on. Last Saturday, I went to the 1 Udoka Junction address on the waybill screenshot you sent to me but nobody seems to have heard of them (Emmanuel Haulage).

Again, please get in touch with them.

Has this been resolved?

Do you have x240 batteries? Internal and external? Small and big (external)?

Lenovo L5 projector how much to Nigeria.

Well while talking about building collapse, house owners are sometimes to blame.

Someone will give you a quotation and the next question you will ask is that the next person price is cheaper.

Instead of asking what materials and asking technical questions about what the person wants to do and how to get it done.

Plenty people are hungry and in dire need of funds will collect job and start cutting corners because at the end of the day, profit is the reason people do business. Even hospitals and doctors are looking for profits were

How about kickbacks that are often imposed on the contractor? Pay me this amount or no more jobs for you. Pay this to the guy who facilitated/fast-tracked the approvals? This one is for the office? That one is for oga, the oga never asks directly

MackyNaija:
Congrats Sir, I fit bet half of my nyansh say na Amzn you get! No ask me how I take know

E get how you go package yourself, you go see Director position. Why?
Depending on your current role, Leaving a 100,000+ employee company with worldwide impact to go work for a sub-1000 employee company having a single or two locations can fetch you a Director position.

As I usually say - once a manager, always a manager except you choose to demote yourself.

After I got this current role, I became fully sold on the idea that everything is about what you believe you are worth and how you package + present yourself.

I agree with the concept of packaging and presentation.

But how big is connection to getting things done versus your experience of/knowledge of connection in getting things done in Nigeria?

Any stories from yonder to breath life into your response?

Nigeria is big on connection for opening hitherto closed doors. What's the Yankee experience like?

MackyNaija:
I don't have a direct answer to this question but let me drop some careless ramblings and maybe it will help with giving you an answer.

First, lets be clear, no be me holy pass...
Secondly, a juxtaposition of our Nigerian 'religiousity' and the state of the country shows something is seriously wrong with the populace...

Let me highlight a few things:
7 deadly sins: envy, gluttony, greed or avarice, lust, pride, sloth, and wrath..

7 Sikh values: honesty, compassion, generosity, humility, integrity, service, and spirituality..

Add the Christian 10 Commandments + the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control...

From the morality and spirituality points of view, are these 'tenets' not enough to guide any sane human??

I am consciously living by these 'tenets' and
I ask Oluwa to use me to be the answer to someone's prayers...
I consciously try not to forget how I'd like to be treated if I was at the receiving end...

On the rig my lead once said : give a human power or wealth and you'll see who they truly are.
This holds true on the negative end for Most Nigerians I have encountered.

Now that you see what my brain is reasoning, I don't think I am sharing anything extraordinary, I believe all humans should share information the way I am sharing it...
It's the normal and right thing to do.

Thanks for the peek into your mind.

I believe God is rewarding you and will reward you even more.

Thanks for being so open, I believe thousands if not more pray for you, and there is no way God is going to ignore those prayers.

Keep up the good work

Nickshrapnel:
I’m not OP, but I also share information to people around me because the richer those around me are, the richer I also become.

That's why I said majority, I didn't say all Nigerians.

God bless you plenty.

That's the way it is supposed to be.
