Phones › Re: Danger Of Using Your CellPhone While Charging (PHOTOS) by felifeli: 12:56pm On Dec 04, 2012
Trendline: Many people are guilty of this! I guess you should stop it after reading this and please tell others about it...

A few days ago, a guy was charging his mobile phone at home. Just at that time a call came in and he answered it with the charging Instrument still connected to the outlet.

Shortly electricity flowed into the cell phone unrestrained (maybe there was current fluctuation) and the young man was thrown to the floor with a heavy thud. As you can see, the phone actually exploded.

His parents rushed to the room only to find him unconscious, with a weak heartbeat and burnt fingers. He was rushed to the nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Cell phones are a very useful modern invention. However, we must be aware that it can also be an instrument of death if not handled with care.

Never use the cell phone while it is hooked to the electrical outlet!
If you are charging the cell phone and a call comes in, unplug it from the charger before answering the call.

Absolute rubbish. You need to be an illiterate to believe this, or your cell phone was made in 1862. The kind of current that would fry your phone would have destroyed the adaptor before it even gets to you.
. . I can no longer take being refered to as a Nigerian.

To me the other tribes that make up this entity are an embarrasment.

I will stand up for anything good or bad an Igbo person does.

But as for the other tribes I just no longer want to be affiliated with them.
No problem. But meanwhile you may claim Yaba Left citizenship

Politics › Re: Battle Of Imagbon (the Anglo-ijebu War) 1892 by felifeli: 10:59pm On Dec 02, 2012
Katsumoto: The Egbas couldn't fulfill their promise because Ijebu told them to wait 3 months. The war didn't last that long. Funny thing is that it was only the Egbas, of the Yoruba armies, who used canons. The tide at the River Yemoji was quite high but there was a small crossing that was low enough for men to cross through. This was where the Ijebus ambushed the Brits. They may have had the day but for the Gatlin and canons which the Brits used to clear the other side. The outcome could have been different if the Ijebu accepted the Egbas offer and used the Egba canons at that point.

Ijebu and Egbas controlled the routes to the hinterland. There was another route at Odo but that wasn't guarded by a powerful army. That was how the Ekiti's and Ijeshas got their arms.

So, how come they were easily subdued by the firepower of the Brits?? Shoe get size now. grin grin grin
You have to remember that the brits were using soldiers from various colonies to fight. They had more men and had more guns.
Carter demanded that Ijebu stop human sacrifice and allow free trade flow into the hinterland having paid Awujale 500 pounds a year in treaty. But things went funny because the Ijebu people were losing a lot of money due to this and resisted. Carter's battle was actually punitive and sent a clear message to all the other hard-heads of Yorubaland:" won't take shit from you guys"
Actually it was the rockets that did the Ijebu in. Good stuff man.

Politics › Re: Lawyers In The House. How Can We Curb The Excesses Of Lagos State Goverment by felifeli: 3:49pm On Nov 29, 2012
koruji: It is simple, challenge laws that you think are unjust in court.
I do think part of the recent traffic laws made by Lagos is too drastic - e.g. 1 year jail and seizing & selling off your vehicle for driving against traffic.
A hefty fine and perhaps temporary impoundment of the vehicle would be reasonable, even for such a terrible traffic offence. One year jail and losing a vehicle is way on the other side of reason. Perhaps a 3-month jail for a 3rd offense, but 1 year jail is simply crazy.

Some laws are too drastic. That it is the law of the land doesn't mean it can't be challenged, although it should be obeyed as long as it exists. But if it is unjust people with the means should seek to have it repealed!!!
When people advise that some stay in their village instead of coming to Lagos it is not an insult. People like you must not travel abroad else you will simply go mad. Have you ever witnessed the arrest of someone driving wrong way in London? It usually involves no less than 4 police cars and the only way the offender leaves that spot will be in handcuffs. You will swear never to drive again. Laws are meant to create and retain sanity not to appease the ignorant.
I can see most Nigerians have lost the power to reason correctly. The OP is posing a legitimate challenge. Lagos state traffic laws are to oppressive. Even the simplest of traffic violations, which sometime an alw abiding person can make through a moment mistake is 20k. Must every penalty be 20k. What happens to an offence being commensurate with the crime. Is that the way it's done in the other parts of the civilised world?

They are offences that shouldn't be more than 2k. At least for the first time of committing that offence. Sometimes people make honest mistakes on the road becos they are not familiar with an area, and the next thing, they are in 20k debt.
My French friend , a girl visiting London for very first time was fined 100 pounds (25000 Naira) for dropping a cigarette butt on the road in Barking. Ignorance is no excuse. She vowed never to return to UK. Go ye and do likewise.

Christianity Etc › Re: What Type Of girls will You Approve Your Sons To Marry by felifeli: 9:28pm On Nov 27, 2012
frosbel: Girl A. If your Son came back home with a girl who wore a mini skirt , bosoms hanging out, with layers and layers of make up, will you honestly approve of the relationship or marriage.

Or

Girl B . If your Son came back home with a girl who dressed all covered up , quiet, respectful and almost shy-like in attitude, will you consider her too out of date for your Son.

Suppose Girl A is more sweet , kind hearted and loving than Girl B , would you not rather try to speak to her with respect and love , so that she might consider her outward appearance or would you write her off almost immediately.

Suppose girl B is really a demon in full head gear and long dress, how would you know ? Surely this is not a pre-requisite for approving their relationship, no ?

I am trying to be balanced here.

Let me know your thoughts.
The way you are thinking I swear if you were my father I will simply not invite you to my wedding.you want to "approve" the woman I will live with for the rest of my life? SMH

Jokes Etc › Re: 10 Types Of People On Nairaland by felifeli: 11:21pm On Nov 24, 2012
iamswizz: 1. The Lurker – This person never posts anything. Never likes anything. Never comments on anything. However, in casual conversation they will mention, "Oh yeah, I saw you had posted that on Nairaland." You know they are there, but they leave no trace evidence.

2. The Stalker – The stalker is not that much different from the lurker. You know they are there. You know they read EVERYTHING you post. They may even mention it to others in face-to-face conversations. They look at all your photos. They may even send you chat messages or post on your wall – a lot. As with stalkers in real life, the Nairaland stalker must be gotten rid of. Stalking is a crime out here in the real world. My suggestion – Mods block them.

3. The Thief – Have you ever posted something on Nairaland only to find that the thread has been taken over by someone else? They may just take over the conversation or they may change the subject entirely. They may even steal your status and post it as their own. i am also a thief because i stole this idea and edited some few things..... If it keeps happening, unfriend them or block them.

4. The Attention Seeker – The attention seeker posts cryptic comments like, "how does this change the price of garri in the market,"

5. The Promoter – This Nairalander only posts links to his/her blog, or invites you to every concert, or only posts about Mary Kay or Scentsy or For Ladies Only. I don't mind shameless self-promotion, but use other social sites for that, not your personal profile.

6. The gamer – Does nothing else than to come to nairaland and start up silly games.....

7. The preacher – This optimist only posts inspirational topics or anything related to God. I love God. He is totally awesome. I love inspirational quotes too. Just don't make it the only think your nairaland account is about. Or, get a fan page.

8. The Drunk – While great for entertainment late at night, or in some extreme cases by 10am, the drunk only posts when they have had one too many. Posts often need a cypher to understand and can be very angry. It is suggested that you advise your friend against drunk posting. If you ARE the drunk I highly recommend quitting. Drinking. Not commenting on Nairaland. Then you don't have to wake up and try to delete drunken posts all your friends already saw anyway.

9. The Whiner – Every topic is about how horrible their life is. How much it hurts or sucks to be them. They post cryptic comments like, "I told you, you know who you are," in the hopes that people will fall into their trap and ask what happened. They also tend to over share personal details. I don't need to know about your bathroom habits. we dont want to know your problems, okhuh

10. The Poor Grammarian – This is the person who spells so badly that you want to ask how on Earth they can not write simple sentences in their native language. Punctuation is ignored or abused. Even if you are using a smart phone to post to Facebook, they have spell check! They have auto correct. They have qwerty keyboards. At least TRY to spell correctly! Please. ok?

Which type of N airalandLord are you?
You are The Thief
You stole this fro Facebook

Politics › Re: SW Leaders Led By Tinubu Do Not Want Regionalism, Shamelessly Prefer Status Quo by felifeli: 9:01am On Nov 15, 2012
It appears to me that Tinubu and other ACN goons, who by all accounts, are the leaders of the SW, and who run most of the states in the SW, have no desire whatsoever for the progress of our country. One would think that the same people who have been clamoring for Regional Integration, would be at the forefront of the battle to improve upon our current system of government, which desperately needs elements of Regionalism and true Federalism, even if their components are introduced piecemeal.

When it is politically useful for them, these irresponsible leaders, who are only after concessions, buying up State land and selling those choice land to their cronies, will be screaming for Sovereign National Conference. As soon as the opportunity for real constitutional changes present themselves, these leaders go into hiding and flood the media in the SW with news which talk about every issue except the important ones of real constitutional changes.

I will leave the writing of an epistle to people like Gbawe, so I will be brief here.

Every well meaning group has made several submissions to the NASS committee on constitutional review. I am most impressed by the submission of Ohaneze’s because it provided a very practical blueprint for Regionalism and Federalism. You’d think that the SW leaders would team up with such groups and apply real pressure on NASS, inform the people, and even organize peaceful demonstrations in support of Regionalism and true Federalism.
I submit to you that these SW leaders are nothing but frauds and I ask you: Where is their call for Regionalism which would actually make their current clamor for Regional Integration a moot point huh

Ohaneze's Submission To NASS – Worth Reading
Once again and in typical fashion the Ibo have the global monopoly of wisdom and the Ibo point of view is paramount. I doff my hat at this gargantuan arrogance. Ndigbo I salute you.

Dede1: It is unfortunate that blind hatred could not allow certain moronic ninnies to discern conjectures from realities. The New York Times organization contracted certain ethnic minorities in Nigeria to speak against Biafra and Ndigbo in 1967.
Forget 1967. This is 2012 and a certain important Ibo man has made grievous allegations which require grievous responses. Instead of furthering the cause of Biafra Achebe has made Ndigbo a laughing stock all over the world.
