satani23:
You people should have your facts b4 posting or supporting whatever trash the government says at most times.

Nigerians have hardly enjoyed any 'real' dividend of Democracy or let me say any real dividend from their Natural resources or from the government. I say it Boldly that apart from the Likes of papa Jakande and partially Fashola all the past rulers of Lagos state are thieves and criminals including Oyinlola, Marwa, Tinubu etc

The problem has always been with us but if any of the past government in Lagos had tried to emulate/did half of what fashola is trying to do now, Lagos would have become a 'real' MEGA city and the drainage challenges would have been reduced to its barest minimum.

Yes its true that many 'Nigerians' block drainages with refuse. In fact i witnessed one my self, BUT to be realistic, that is just about 20-30% of the problems. The drainage system in Lagos was poorly constructed and needs to be reconstructed and PROPERLY channeled. Most of it were constructed way back b4 the population grew to about 18million. Now its needs to be reconstructed and properly channeled. In VI for instance there are drainages but no place for the water to be channeled to whenever it rains. This i witnessed on Sunday in popular areas such as Adeola odeku, Silver bird galleria side up to mint, federal palace hotel and NTA all in ahmadu bello way, to where we have Eko hotel at Adetokunbo Ademola street. This things cant be done by the citizens except by the government.

I am in the building and construction industry here in Lagos, what ever i post is a fact and not some meaningless and senseless conjectures to aimlessly defend/rebuke the government
Kobojunkie:
Please, if you have not already done it, take a trip to developed countries outside of Africa -- heck America. People, even there do litter the grounds, and drainages do get blocked from time to time especially in populated cities. Try going especially to the ghetto areas on a Friday or Sunday. You will almost think some of these places ought to have be Ajegunle annex by now, but they never do become that, why? Because The Government knows it is ITS DUTY to make sure the sewers, the streets, and drainage is cleared especially when the rains are coming. This is not done because it is some 'fancy' developed thing to do, but because it is the COMMON SENSE thing to do especially considering the cost of handling a flood situation instead.

Stop! Yes it is easy to blame the government, but YES, the Government ought to take the blame because it is ALREADY BEING PAID to do this job. You do not pay someone to do a job and then come back to do that job yourself, do you? The Government already gets paid taxes, billions in taxes for even this. It is time people start demanding returns on their taxes, rather than cooking up the most ridiculous of excuses for their government.

Tomorrow, the Government road team is coming out to sweep out streets --- they do this here at least once a month when the rainy season is here to ensure the gutters and drains are kept free of debris that could potentially block them. Ask your government why e dey pay people millions each month to clean Lagos but Lagos remains as clogged as it is, even after 12 years of this so called exercise. Something is not happening, and the ONLY WAY to make it start happening, is if Government gets to work.

This disaster is going to cost this state Billions of dollars -- money that could have been used to fix the problem in the first place and spared the state from all this heart ache and loss. The state looses billions each year to these AVOIDABLE disasters. People, once again, have to spend money fixing up their houses for yet another year, probably only for the same to occur again next year, and the year after  .  . . .  There is absolutely no one else to blame but the state.
at least you know we are partially the cause of this and not only the government abi? so? why dont we solve ours first before shouting about the government incompetency ! haba! is is not when your own house is clean that you can preach about dirtyness and it's effects?

it begins with us jor!

Ooga o! I don read every post, The thread don tire me sef! People no wan gree for theirselves. Some say na Bigotry,Hatred,Jaundice eyes, superiority complex, inferiority complex, ignorance, whatever. But i think i can deduce that some people are misinformed, brainwashed, selfish and believe in their tribes than the other. As if it were a mistake you are a Nigerian. Trust me when i say that Islam does not preach Violence. The name Islam means Peace. Som evil people just do things in order to tarnish religions. RELIGION is different from CULTURE. It is some people's nature to be easily annoyed while it is some to be overbearing. The existence of both in an environment is called co-habitation. 'We have diverse culture and ethnicity' so? What has happened to the slogan: unity in diversity? We should learn to be tolerant of one another. Beats me that some of us dont know how the world be if only one tribe(your tribe) existed. Mehn, D world go dry pass my grandfather bald head! Everything in this world is created for a reason. I find it weird that we wouldn't have known light without darkness, Peace without war, good without bad, and even law without crime. Isn't that kind of creepy? But it's the truth.
The Igbos,Yorubas and Hausas couldn't have existed anywhere in the world other than my beloved country,Nigeria. If you think otherwise then try finding another suitable part of the body to place your nose if not your face!
Who says Nigeria will divide? Who says? Beleive it or not Nigeria will never divide. I can bet my life on that! Truly truly some people may be misinformed maybe it's our duty to enlighten them (that's if we are informed too o). My fellow Nigerian brothers and sisters please let peace reign in our country Nigeria, lets treat issues with understanding and not violence. Together we shall make this country better and the best. Thank you,

Who do you think you are deceiving? The North has made this a religious issue, and you are speaking to someone who has traveled to the North many times. The North is feeling threatened about the power shift to the south, and they don't like it.

Prior to the election, the mosques in the North were even handing pamphlets saying that Muslims should not vote for Jonathan because he is a Christian, and that no Muslim should ever vote for a Christian.

Illiteracy has many definitions, one of which is a person who has not achieved a basic education, which in Nigeria is graduating from secondary school and obtaining your SSCE or its equivalent.

If this was not about religion, why did the almajiris in the North even burn churches at all? Why didn't they direct their attacks at only PDP installations, regardless of whether the attacks on PDP predominated over the attacks on churches. Why even burn one single church?

This is not business as usual. And a free and fair election will show whether the North and South can co-exist. We are tired of Northerners who have messed up our country for 38 years out of 50 years. You tell me, what have your Northern brethren achieved for Nigeria by ruling us for 38/50 years? Uhn!
Mouques were also being burnt!

PoliticsAkala Stops Buhari's Rally For Jonathan's Wife. by FILEBE(op):
March 13, 2011
News
* Bakare flays action
By OLA AJAYI & DAPO AKINREFON
Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo
State has ordered the stoppage of the
rally by the presidential candidate of the
Congress for Progressive Change (CPC),
Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd),
scheduled for tomorrow at the ancient
Mapo Hall, Ibadan.
The order was informed by the
proposed visit of the first lady, Dame
Patience Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday.
The action drew instant condemnation
from the CPC vice presidential candidate,
Pastor Tunde Bakare, who claimed it
amounted to stiffling of the opposition
by
the ruling Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP).
Alao-Akala was said to have given
security reasons for his action, alleging
that the CPC changed its plan without
carrying him along and that the inability
of the party to use Mapo Hall should not
be blamed on him but the party.
Mr. Adebayo Shittu, governorship
candidate of the CPC in Oyo State, said
his party had paid for the venue more
than two weeks ago, but the state
government
had allegedly given an instruction to the
management of Mapo Hall that the party
should not be allowed to use the venue.
He said, “It is quite unfortunate what is
happening in this country that the
opposition is being muzzled by the
government in power. We all know that
nobody
was elected into the position of the first
lady, yet the instrument of the state is
being used to deny somebody of the
calibre of Gen. Buhari the opportunity to
tell the people of the South-West what he
has in stock for them ”.
He added that like a drowning person,
the PDP was doing that because it knew
it had already failed in Oyo State.
Alao-Akala, however, cleared the air on
his action through Prince Dotun Oyelade,
his Special Adviser on Public
Communication, saying, “It is also untrue
that Oyo
government has denied the Congress for
Progressive Change presidential
candidate the use of Mapo Hall ”.
He explained that CPC wrote that it would
pay a courtesy call on the governor, on
Monday, March 7 and he replied that he
was in the thick of his electioneering
campaign; so he couldn ’t receive him.
“When CPC suddenly changed its
campaign to next Monday (tomorrow), it
should have the courtesy of notifying
appropriate authority which, in any case,
had
allocated Mapo to the First Lady, Mrs.
Jonathan, who is on state visit Tuesday.
CPC should blame itself for the
embarrassing lapse, ” Alao-Akala stated.
Fielding questions from journalists in
Lagos, yesterday, Bakare berated Oyo
State government for frustrating the
efforts of the CPC south west campaign
because of the wife of the president, by
taking possession of Mapo Hall, Ibadan.
He explained that the CPC was supposed
to make use of the hall on Tuesday for
its rally, having paid for the hall, while
the President ’s wife is billed to
host PDP women at the venue on
Wednesday.
The CPC vice presidential candidate said,
“ They cannot stop us from holding our
rally at Mapo. I’m marching there, not in
agbada, but in jeans to tell them that
they cannot prevent us from holding our
campaign in Mapo Hall. ”
While reacting to the allegation by the
PDP that his party instigated violence in
some states, he absolved his party of
being involved in any act of violence.
His words: “Is CPC responsible for the
violence in Bayelsa? Was CPC responsible
for the stampede in Port Harcourt where
a lot of people died as a result of the
overzealousness of security agents? God
helped them that they have not come
face to face with the revenge and revolt
of the poor. I am an eye witness to
history.
From Abuja to Maiduguri, it’s one hour
twenty minutes. The governor of Borno
State withdrew all the buses that were
meant to welcome us. The people
trekked,
they ran, they came on Okada. From the
airport, it took us four hours to get to
the palace of the Shehu of Borno, these
people you call violent did not cause
any disturbance at the palace, but they
cannot stop anything called PDP. As far
as we are concerned, we are preaching
peace, but the people are exhibiting
against PDP.”
On the perceived deadlock between ACN
and CPC on alliance talks ahead of the
April polls, he said the talks are on going.
