So where in NIGERIA

This picture is despicable, this goes to show the level of decadence in the society, how can meters be hung on electric poles.the distribution companies and installers if these meters lack foresight by just risking the lives of their staffs , all in a bid to prevent people from tampering with the meter necessitated this move.

Why can't they just erect a structure/base where all the meter can be placed and locked to avoid tampering by subscribers

Very true Chief @ the Bolded. But they seem to have a Monopolistic influence on what is supposedly a free Market and this is very bad for the industry and consumers. What else would give them the gals to implement such bad bussiness policy.
I would like to think that once you make payment for goods and you're issued a receipt then it is binding on the company to provide you the goods you were issued a receipt for.
Unless the T& C indicate that they have the right to withdraw thier offer at any time or effect a price change without prior notice, which I seriously doubt.

During the Dollar-nightmare regime , COLEMAN would always pass a circular to distributors on intended price increase to allow us stock up on Cables to the extent of available stock and up to an effective date. This would minimize losses on the distributors side ( because you would otherwise have to replace stock at a higher cost than your selling price) and also help buffer the price increase shock on the market.

Your narrative above should apply in sane business environment and companies that have intergrity entrenched in their mission statement . What we have these days are companies that would rather impoverish their franchisee in periods of price arbitrage and when sales are going south they force their product on you when competition are selling at a lower price and expect you tell at prices slightly higher than competition .

You're so dazzled by the jabber of one woman that you refuse to engage whatever critical thinking skills you possess, or to do any research of your own to determine whether what she said was true? Here are just a few useful correctives for you to peruse if you want something more than one woman's deceptive chatter:

1. A secret US government cable released by Wikileaks - This was never meant to be seen by any Nigerians, or even by unauthorized Americans, so don't try to dismiss it by the usual Nigerian appeal to conspiracy theories.

2. A New York Times story dating all the way back to 1992 - The NYT is one of the most reputable and thorough newspapers on the planet, right up there with the Washington Post, The Economist and the Financial Times.

3. ADB/OECD Anti-Corruption Initiative for Asia and the Pacific Asset Recovery - Page 175 and 176 cover Ajaokuta and how the Abachas used it as a vehicle to steal hundreds of millions of Dollars.

4. Governance and Accountability Issues in Nigerian Parastatals: The Case of Ajaokuta Steel - a PhD thesis investigating the systemic issues plaguing Ajaokuta and every other Nigerian parastatal. Not a single business or parastatal run by the Nigerian government has ever consistently run a profit or maintained even a merely decent level of operation, but for some strange reason you and the other Ajaokuta cheerleaders expect this particular case to be different?

I could go on dumping links here at will, but I suspect you won't even read the ones I've provided, as you clearly prefer to believe fairy tales spun for you by a woman who is good at wrapping her own eagerness to steal public funds behind a facade of "patriotism" that Nigerians only ever really muster when the Super Eagles are playing.

Well done !!!

If only people would take time to research on any discourse put on the front burner they will realise that apart from being emotional on some happenings going on the country they would be able to make/take informed decisions,

Oga you still are nt getting the point. She is not any crying voice!!! She is just part of a conspiracy to swindle Nigeria of N300billion naira! The house of Reps of the Federal Republic of Nigeria made a major policy shift based on the advise of a woman who has no background whatsoever in Steel and whose only claim to fame is her women's NGO!!! In another country this would be a national scandal! But somehow we even have dunces on this thread quoting what the lady said in the National Assembly and on NTA, without even knowing anything about her background or who she represents!!! Of all the Iron an steel experts an Engineers in Nigeria, our House of reps decides to make a major policy change based on a women's NGO activists testimony!!!

Okay sir you don WIN, I am not fully in support of any new chang her cry would bring all I am saying is that the ASC has always being a CASINO

Oga read this and educate yourself on who this woman is

http://dailypost.ng/2017/02/03/group-clashes-natasha-akpoti-alleged-sponsored-campaign-ajaokuta-steel-company/amp/

She has no background in steel. She claims she has an M.A in oil and gas but no one knows where she got it from. She is a divorcee from Kogi with a Ukrainian mother. She currently runs an NGO for women in her home state. Does it not bother you that the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria voted to cancel the Privitization of the ASC, budget N300 billion of our money for it and even remove the ASC from the list of government companies that can be privatized based on the testimony of a divorcee from Kogi with no background whatsoever in the steel industry and who runs an NGO for women? If it doesn't bother you, it really bothers me that our house of reps trusts the testimony of a divorcee single mother with no authority or expertise in any field over the Minister of Solid Minerals. I'm shocked and dumbfounded.

Thanks for your link,,I am not saying she has expert judgement on the subject matter, but rather she was the only crying voice in the wilderness that seems to bring the ASC TO THE FRONT BURNER, If you have ever worked in Kogi state you will know that the ASC is like a cursed project.

Now to the matter i am not divulging corruption from the revamping of the structure,it's just so unfortunate that year on year billions spent does not really translate to milestones over the years.

I believe you see my position now

Oga this nonsense you typed is a categorical lie. The builder of that plant was a Soviet company that is now defunct. That Natasha lady is working for interests that are bent on cornering money that the REPS and their sponsors want to divert. Those REPS have an agenda and they brought someone (Natasha) to solidify that agenda. How on earth did the REPS arrive at 300billion as the cost for the refurbishment of the plant? Who did the estimation and the costing? Where are the tenders that were submitted for the project? What are the machines and instruments that will be purchased? Someone just sat on his toilet seat and thought of a big round figure starting with 3 and ending with plenty zeros!
The way Nigerians get hoodwinked these days is on another level!!! The same REPS the approved the N500million that was budgeted for the Privitization process of the Ajaokuta plant after a detailed public hearing now went to the backdoor and procured a woman (Natasha) with no traceable background and on the payroll of interest groups, to defend the comic allocation of N300 billion! of our excess reserves to the toilet. I'm sure one of those REPS came up with the 300 figure while he was deep inside Natasha.

Well anything is possible based on your assumptions/ theory, but as for the lady saying she has no identity go back and read about her very well she has being advocating for the successful completion of the Ajaokuta project for over 5 years now if my memory is not failing me,even the Russian government were skeptical of her when she was digging into the company that constructed the steel plant

Oh really? Tell us exactly when it was privatised, and who bought it for how much. Tell us how the government then reacquired it after selling it off. You don't have the first clue what you're talking about.

Again, more pontificating based on nothing more than prejudice masquerading as knowledge. If Indians don't have the competence, how did ArcelorMittal become the world's biggest steel company, and its biggest shareholder - Lakshmi Mittal - the third richest man in the world?

The idiocy and ignorance packed into this single statement is simply unbelievable! What exactly do you think Nigerian governments have been doing with Ajaokuta since the 1970s other than pouring more money into a black hole? And do you realise that "the original builders" that you mention no longer even exist, as the Soviet Union was dissolved in 1991?

You're ever so typical of totally ignorant Nigerians who refuse to let their ignorance stop them from wanting to pour yet more good money after bad, even with more than 40 years of failure staring them in the face.

Omohayek,my research associate ,good we are meeting once again on this discourse ,leave some of these guys alone they don't want to learn let them go and read about Ajaokuta steel company and the history of Ajaokuta people to enable them understand that it's just a sinking fund project

Daddyaddtutu:
Please I need help and I want to know how much it will cost me to do my roofing ? I attracted quotation quotation I got from a carpenter? Please any advice thanks

Ple review the prices of the materials by going to your local wood market yo price similar woods in the quotation, cursory look at the quotation implies that the capenter has inflated the material cost between 15% to 25%, you can review the labor price down by 20%

Kindly ensure the capenter has undertaken similar jobs and get proof to ascertain his proficiency in roofing of structures, if you decide to get the woods yourself don't let him take you to any particular customer in the wood market as you might be shortchanged in terms of quality, quality and price, ensure you get an engineer to estimate the quantity of woods required for your roofing you may also b suprise that he has over quoted the required quantity ,while the diffrence will not be supplied to the site that quantity represents his own gain or " EGUNJE" as we call it in our local parlance.

Please just be guided !!!

That lady did a good job on researching of the Ajaokuta steel plant some years back and if I am not mistaken he tenacity brought to the front burner the need to revisit and take a firm decision on the way forward in ensuring the plant works at maximum capacity to deliver the expected GAINS ,first to the people of KOGI state ,the FGN and the nation as whole .

If you have time read some of her articles on the subject matter, you won't regret adding to your knowledge reservoir

How old are you?
Where are you from?

I want to restrain myself as I type this. I know Nigerian youths are very annoying so I will be restrained and very elementary.

Nigeria = plenty of youths (demographically speaking)
Youths = need a future, jobs, get married to whom they love,
have kids
Ajaokuta = Steel plant. They call it a basic industry.

Ajaokuta Steel Plant = liquid Steel + 30 very useful products and
gases

Ajaokuta can produce raw materials for 30 other industries.

Ajaokuta can produce enough Steel to 100x the current Nigerian rail capacity.

Trump is protecting US Steel and Aluminium. I don't like Trump but he struggles not to be a fool. Here he may have succeeded.

Why should Nigeria be foolish and not complete Ajaokuta

When a young man comes on Nairaland to vomit timidly what global Steel makers and their agents want to do to make us dependent, it means generational curses are at work. You showing off stupidly.

The stupidest idea running on the Internet is suggesting that Nigeria cannot run a steel plant.

They are not insulting Buhari they are insulting young Nigerian Engineers.

Ethiopia and Egypt and S. Africa are running Steel plants.

It is even sad that some of our brothers from the S.East have joined the crowd...you know showing off over nothing.

If Ajaokuta was sited in Enugu , won't it have been running since 1979?.

Please I like you but please think deep about issues before jumping in. Don't be mentally timid, running with other people's ideas.

Ajaokuta is a challenge. Nigeria will run it and develop other basic industries, defence industries, foundries and more sophisticated stuff from it. We shall become an exporter .

It can run, WITH or WITHOUT government. Ethiopian and Egyptian plants are not privately owned.

I could not agree with you less based on your wonderful analysis on the subject matter, kudos to you for this ,but I would want to point out some salient issues affecting the final completion and running of the plant, they are as follows

1.corruption
2.policy direction
3.lack of political will
4.Connecting with experts in the diaspora with the requisite knowledge

The list goes on and on, we can be pumping money on a project over the years without an end date, this means something is fundamentally wrong in the planning and execution process.......

You still have not dealt with the main issue: Why was a 2 year old child and a 3 year old boy locked up in a school bus/vehicle, unattended, unsupervised and unwatched? shocked Isn't this a classic case of negligence? How could the teachers who accompanied the kids on that excursion trip, have been so derelict in their duties?

You are right by all standards, negligence on the part of the child handlers .the teacher, driver should be called to question as I am not ruling out any suspicion on planned kidnap gone wrong.

BUT the question that still remained unanswered is " How could the parents allow kids of 2 years and 3 years go for excursion" like I said in my previous post I will BLATTANTLY tell the school authorities to exclude my kids from such excursions.

hello house. at the moment i decided to start following topics here with keen interest. i am a builder at the moment and well, i would say i have seen wowimg designs of everything from the internet to first eye experiences of what really nice homes look like. i spent a few years in europe and for one i must say i am still impressed how terrazzo flooring atill looks extermely beautiful unlike the nonsenses we have in Nigeria. no offence should be taken on this.

To the topic at hand, i am interested in doing flooring for the external part of my house and because its a country home where people dont go often, i am not keen on using interlocking as we all know one disadvantage it has. I also dont see the reason why I would spent almost N10,000 for concrete stamped floor when in real essence, its not worth the value and the beauty fades over time then we know the major one people who try to cut cost use, german flooring (if thats what it is called), where you just apply concrete and smoothen and that is all.

I have seen a few places abroad where they actually use that same concrete with stone chippings almost like normal gravel and any other kind of stone you want but in the end its treated the way terrazzo is being treated. so what you have as end result is concrete with gravel but smoothened out to look polished like terrazzo. It seems nothing more is applied to the surface as the " washing" gives its a "smooth" finish befitting for an exterior. I would upload pictures in a bit..

house what do you think of this idea? is it workable in Nigeria?

It's workable , my advise is you have to inject into the process of production safety measures to guide against "slips and falls" as this would be a major drawback from people patronising or accepting the product.

If I had the time and resources I would take up this challenge as a project based invention

We used to fly kites to know whose went the highest, make battery powered toy cars with 4wheel drive to climb steep hills in races with cassette player rotors, rubber bands and Dunlop slippers, build toy guns that used matches carbide as gunpowder to shoot dangerous projectiles etc while the ladies played their usual ten-ten, suwe, etc

Today’s kids can’t even play ... give them any chance and they immediately run to watch nikolodeon and Cartoon Network on tv. Leave them outside with their friends and they start to fight and cry, no innovative spirit to do things together anymore. Even in school during their break time they don’t play ‘catcher’ and ‘police and thief’ anymore
