This doesn't actually sound like a scam. Unless he has a written agreement (or evidence of an oral agreement) stating that they guarantee him a Visa for sums paid, especially if he didn't finish paying the sum. It seems like he paid for a service and got it, unless he has further info on that incident to share.

Police should investigate, then arrest if necessary. Bail should be free and near instant.

Curious that you’re jumping to ‘convicted’ and ‘sentenced to prison’. innocence or guilt is for the law courts to decide, not you on Nairaland. And sentence is the prerogative of the judge, especially if there’s an option of fine if found guilty.

Be like some of you are in cahoots with this company

What is Lawful is Lawful. What is Unlawful is Unlawful. I do not need to side with anyone if the Law is Black and White on the issue.

I said "she can eventually be charged, convicted and sent to Prison to serve a sentence."

"Can" remains the operating word, symbolising possibility, not certainty. I am not inferring guilt or carrying out the job of the Courts. It is an expression of possibility.

And so using policemen to arrest and intimidate the lady is fine?

"Fine" is too vague and subjective to have any place in Legal Discourse.

If she was the one who originally published the story, then arresting her is Lawful! In fact, she can eventually be charged, convicted and sent to Prison to serve a sentence.

If she wasn't the one that published the story then the Police ought to release her upon finding out that she wasn't the one who published the story.

Well done online SAN!! Defamation is also a Crime!! Section 373 and 375 of the Criminal Code Act, punishable by a year in prison if you didn't know it was false and 2 years if you knew it was false.

texazzpete:

You people know the ones you can pull this stunt with, sha. Because defamation is a civil offense. If you’re concerned about that, the right step should be to go to court and get legal redress. Using paid police to harass defenceless civilians is complete nonsense.

Like I said, you people know who you try this nonsense on. Because try this shit on any of my family members and both you and the police you hired will be in the hottest Ogbono soup.

Childish bullying at work.

Hmm...
Oh well...next time do your due diligence before publishing defamatory stories. It's actually a Crime under Section 373 of the Criminal Code Act, punishable under Section 375 of same. If you're the one that published that story then get ready, you're the one that should be arrested, not her. All she needs to do is to deny publication and the hunt for you is on. Don't deceive yourself, the Police are actually doing their LAWFUL JOB!!

If Nigerians can travel back in time to 2015, with the knowledge and consciousness of 2021, will we still have campaigned and voted for Buhari?

I personally would've gone further back, to even before my conception. I would have a chat with God - "Baba, we need to talk. You see that Country you're about to send me to. Kole work! If you insist, I'll take my blanket and go back to sleep here "

In their mind he can manage Liverpool because of his success with Rangers. That's what was thought of lampard also. But it turned out that Derby County isn't the same as Chelsea.

Why are they even thinking of replacing one of the best coaches (won two years on a bounce now) in the world with Amateur

Klopp isn't being replaced. Gerrard will be Liverpool's option is Klopp decides to leave to coach Germany. Nobody in Liverpool wants Klopp gone, but if he leaves, they need a coach.

The value of an area is the location. Ebutemetta is the corridor linking Mainland with Island. From Ebutemetta, the Island is easily accessible, Ikeja is easily accessible via the 3rd Mainland, so also is Apapa. That's what makes Ebutemetta a big deal.

Whatever NBA says is binding on all your members, but what you say isn't even binding on your own Members.

"Computers destroyed at NFIU before panel’s visit

The probe of Magu however took an interesting turn on Friday as computers at the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit where evidence was purportedly kept, were destroyed.

The incident took place at the NFIU office located on Ibrahim Taiwo Street near the Presidential Villa barely hours before members of the Presidential panel investigating Magu were to visit the office to view evidence stored on the computers.

The NFIU, which used to be a unit under the EFCC before it was separated as an independent agency in 2018, was said to be a vital agency in the probe of Magu.

A top source said, “Some NFIU officials had earlier in the week testified orally before the panel. However, they said they could not bring some sensitive materials before the panel because of their operational protocol.

“The members of the panel subsequently scheduled a visit to the NFIU office on Friday to view some of the evidence. However, before they could get to the NFIU office, some unknown persons had broken into the place and destroyed the computers.”

However, Magu’s lawyer, Tosin Ojaomo, said his client should not be linked with the alleged destruction of the computers, saying such linkage was as an attempt to damage his client’s reputation.

He said, “Magu has nothing to do with that matter. The main office of the NFIU is inside the Central Bank of Nigeria. That is where most of their operations take place.

“People are just doing everything possible to blackmail Magu. How can Magu who is in detention send people to destroy things? The truth will soon emerge.”

Lol...

Crime / SS2 Students Bring Gun, Tear Gas To School To Fight SS3 Seniors In Port Harcourt by Fraust40(m): 3:19pm On May 28, 2019
A disturbing video has emerged online showing a government school, CSS Oroworokwu in Port Harourt, where students are seen jumping from a first storey classroom building. According to report, teargas fume allegedly brought by SS2 students sent the entire school population scampering for safety. In the video background, some kept screaming blood of Jesus, begging the students loudly not to jump as caution was disregarded.

Teachers were also seen running for their lives as no one wants to be caught in the reported fight between both classes. As at the time of writing this, there has been no official claim confirming the incident in the state capital of Rivers state. Comments, however, said that the video is a reflection of how the society as failed young ones in the country.

In the video, the students who escaped from the violence were seen breathing a sigh of relief as they all hurried home in their large numbers.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Nyesom Wike, the Rivers state governor, stated that the politicisation of security is responsible for the insecurity across the country. While speaking during a courtesy visit by the Charge D’Affairs, embassy of Netherlands at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Wednesday, May 8, Governor Wike said when security issues involve opposition states, the authorities play politics. It was also gathered that the governor said if there is security challenges in any state controlled by the opposition, politics is usually introduced. "The problem we have is the politicisation of security. As an opposition state, once we have security challenges, politics is introduced," he said. He urged the government of Netherlands to give Rivers state the support to tackle insecurity in the state. Wike blamed multinational companies for encouraging insecurity by patronising cultists for surveillance jobs.

Politics / Re: BREAKING: EFCC Arrests Justice Ofili-ajumogobia As Court Strikes Out Corruption by Fraust40(m): 4:29pm On Apr 16, 2019
EFCC were being sharp.

In the Nganjiwa Case, a sitting Judge was arraigned without being dismissed by NJC before arraignment. On appeal, the court held the trial court had no jurisdiction to entertain an arraignment of a sitting Judge, and that the court ought to have struck out the case.

The same thing happened here. But sometime during trial, EFCC petitioned NJC, and, after investigations, NJC dismissed Ajumogobia.

However, she had, at that time, already been arraigned as a sitting Judge. Justice Oshodi had no choice but to strike the case out.

A "strike out" is not a "dismissal" or an "acquittal."

A dismissal or acquittal essentially means "go and never return." It operates as res judicata, and you cannot retry the person for any issue related to the subject matter of the charge dismissed or acquitted.

A strike out means "there's something stopping the court from doing anything on this case. Go back, sort that thing out and return." You CAN retry someone for the exact same charge struck out, IF you sort out the issue for which it was struck out.

Right now, Ajumogobia is NOT a sitting Judge, as she has been dismissed by NJC. So, EFCC can retry her. This time, the court will have Jurisdiction. I'm sure that's why they waited to rearrest her.

Her Lawyer lacked foresight. He should've seen this coming from a mile. They should've allowed them to convict her, then Appeal on grounds of Lack of Jurisdiction. The court of Appeal would've set aside the conviction, and that would have had the same effect as an acquittal.
