I and a couple of my friends are still working on some modalities on forming one. but would tell you a little about investment clubs. An investment club is just a group of like-minded individuals who contribute their spare money and then invest this money collectively usually in shares initially and later on in real estate and business depending on the investment preferences of members. An investment club is a group of people who pool their money to make investments. Usually, investment clubs are organized as partnerships and, after the members study different investments, the group decides to buy or sell based on a majority vote of the members. Club meetings may be educational and each member may actively participate in investment decisions. You can easily start one if you can pool different people together but you ve to seek finanacial knowledge and also be ready and also ensure you ve professionals in your club . Try and also ve people that are liked minded. You might be disappinted if you fail but you are doomed if you don't try |

I learnt a few years back that most businesses die within the first five years of their existence. Another small fraction goes into extinction between the sixth and the tenth year. At the end, only about five to 10 per cent of young companies survive and experience growth. Given the fact that we have very few (if any at all) businesses founded by Nigerians that are one hundred years old, it is expedient that we identify those factors that appear as death traps for young businesses. Insufficient capital Reality is usually different from projection. It is not unusual for most small businesses to record sales or profits that are lower than their expectations. This may in turn hamper their ability to continue to offer their products or services on a consistent basis. It is advisable therefore that you have some possible sources of extra capital to fall back on. This must be why Jesus said; “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first getting estimates and then checking to see if he has enough money to pay the bills? Otherwise he might complete only the foundation before running out of funds. And then how everyone will laugh.” (Luke 14:28-29) Lack of focus A new business must quickly establish its Unique Selling Proposition (USP). In the market, you are different or you die. You must do one thing exceptionally well. That in itself is a challenge. Trying to do three or four things exceptionally well will wear you out. It will make you a jack of all trades and master of none. Life hardly makes room for outstanding generalities, especially among start-ups. Quickly identify your best market opportunity and give it your best shot. It may not yet be time to tell yourself not to put all your eggs in one basket. You don’t have many eggs yet. Put the only one you have, or the few of them in one basket and watch over it. Inadequate market research Assumption is the lowest level of knowledge. If your business is founded on wrong assumptions, you may be in for surprises. One important source of information for a business is the customer. It is expedient that you talk to a number of prospective customers to understand their needs and whatever hang-ups they have about similar lines of products or services. Perfection Many young entrepreneurs see successful businesses that fit perfectly with the ideal pictures they have in their own minds. However, they find it difficult to know how to move from where they are to where they want to be. So they began by setting up beautiful offices with costly furniture in expensive locations. In fact, some don’t start at all just because they cannot afford those fanciful things. Most entrepreneurs did not start with fanciful furniture or official cars. They prudently managed the little resources they had, nurtured them like seeds and took them through several cycles of multiplication. Even when they have become successful, their prudence helps them to manage their success. They increase profits while keeping their overhead costs as low as possible. Over reliance on one or two customers To experience a rejection or disappointment from a customer when about seventy to eighty percent of your turn over comes from that single customer can be devastating. This is the experience of many businesses in our country that depend only on certain government agencies or parastatals for contracts. Prolonged delays in their payments can throw them deep into debts. This kind of a situation reminds me of the biblical story of Samson, who was divinely endowed with extraordinary physical strength. When he was captured by his enemies, they removed his two eyes. One day, they made him entertain about three thousand top officials in a stadium. The whole load of the stadium rested on only two pillars. By crushing those two pillars, Samson brought down the whole stadium. It can be dangerous to depend on only one or two customers. Seun you ve a very good idea and if you really want to start that idea. just focus mainly on your target market that is schools. You would be surprise it could blow up and in no time you cud be giving advert placements from these schools.Just tried and make it cheap and if you can make it like cartoons. I remember when i was in primary school there used to be a magazine like that and i enjoyed reading it and people used to buy it. Guess it was binta my daughter but i think it was from wale adenuga. And for that business you would have to develop a good marketing and distribution network.I believe there is no harm in trying and you never can say how far you can go unless you have tried. You will suceed, Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I am not sure about the former……. |

Here are 22 solid career lessons as a result of over 3 decades of professional research. Lesson 1. You're like a small company: "You, Ltd." Even if you work for a big company, you're on your own. Companies aren't people. They're things, often uncaring things. Companies don't have feelings. Those who expect companies to "take care of them", or to "do the right thing" are often disappointed, especially when they feel they have strong friendships in the company. No one (can or should) cares more about your career than you do. Remember that, and don't expect "the company" to take care of you. Lesson 2. Certain people belong in certain kinds of jobs. You do have special gifts that fit you for some, disqualify you for others. Self knowledge is essential (but rare). Take time to assess your skills, temperament, and aptitudes in depth. Everyone--even senior executives--could benefit from the help of a qualified career counselor. Lesson 3. Careers are short-term. On any given day, your present job can end, even if you own the company! Therefore, think short term. Don't take your present opportunity for granted. I define a consultant as "Someone who wakes up every morning unemployed." You should feel the same way. Wake up every morning feeling unemployed--appreciate your job--and figure out what you're going to do next. It's always great to have a "Plan B." Lesson 4. It's more important to be a "people person" than to be an achievement-oriented person always winning at the cost of others. People skills are more important than technical skills. Even in technical jobs, you have to interface with someone. Often the average performers who are easier to get along with last longer. Lesson 5. Your achievements (results, accomplishments) are your stepping stone for the future. They will determine your marketability. In marketing yourself, it's results that count. Make sure you're contributing something substantial and measurable every single day. Make sure you keep a written record of your results. Always ask yourself at the end of each day “What have I achieved today?” Lesson 6. If you lose your job, 80% of your marketing for a new position is already done. That's right. Your reputation, results, accomplishments, people skills, kindnesses, contributions, friendships are all a matter of record. If you've been a contributor, if you've been kind to others and easy-to-work-with, you'll be in demand. If not, you won't. No consultant in the world can create friendship for you if you haven't created it for yourself. Lesson 7. Changing fields, industries, and functional specialties is difficult, and more difficult the bigger the change. Plastics manufacturers won't want to hire you if you've been in steel. And vice versa. Choose your career path carefully. As management expert Peter Drucker says, "The best way to predict the future is to plan it." Lesson 8. Salesman, Customer Service Representative, Staff Accountant, Technical Writer isn't a career. Accounts Payable Clerk, Junior Accountant, Accountant, Controller, Chief Financial Officer, Vice President of Finance is a career. Lesson 9. People tend to earn what they deserve to earn. Lesson 10. Love, happiness, friendship, and time for oneself are just as important as career. If career is everything in your life, you could be disappointed if your career is sidetracked. Lesson 11. If you're fired or laid off, ask yourself why you didn't see it coming; or if you did see it coming, ask yourself why you didn't do something about it. Figure out your part in causing the problem. Then set about creating a new, better life for yourself. There is a better life in your future. Lesson 12. Don't ever let yourself be unemployed, even for a day. Volunteer a few hours, work part-time for a temporary agency, help a friend in his or her company. Do something to get yourself out of the house. Unemployment is a mind-set you should avoid. Lesson 13. Don't stay in a job you hate. Hating your job can kill you. Lesson 14. Too much success can kill you. Notice I said "too much success," not "too much stress." Learn when enough is enough. Success itself can cause you problems. If you think you're burning out, you may be right. Highly successful people are the most subject to burnout of all. They demand the most from themselves--and everyone around them Lesson 15. Success is difficult. If success were easy, everyone would be successful. Lesson 16. There's a special place for everyone. You can create the kind of future you want. Just remember: Lesson 17. Nothing good happens fast. Lesson 18. The workplace is fun and challenging. It can also be cruel and heartless. It rewards effort and planning, but tends to punish indifference and lack of preparation. Those who don't manage their careers--who just let things happen-often end up in painful, dead-end jobs and lifestyles. Lesson 19. You are fully in control of your own future. No one can deny you a happy life if you decide to plan it and work for it. No one can stop you from becoming successful, but yourself. Lesson 20. It's never too late for a new beginning. Lesson 21. Your friends--even distant friends--are your best allies in a job-search. No one will help you more than those who already know your name. So make an extensive list of everyone you've met in life--and let them know your situation. Lesson 22. Align yourself with winners. Hang around with winners. Success really does rub off from others. There's no substitute for "knowing the right people," and for "being in the right place at the right time." |

What is more the benefit? To love a person that is already loved by everyone, or to love a person that is rejected by everyone? |
I think Festus Odumegwu just got it mixed up. trying to combine politics and business. and the funniest thing is that its not his own company or personal business. If he was like the likes of dangote or Adenuga it would have been better. I heard he went to the extent to having paid television adverts to support the third term agenda. Anyway its one thing to get to the top and another thing to remain there and manage that position properly. A great man has to humble himself before God or he will be humbled.Take heed and we should all learn from his experience |

Simple. Hope that is explicit enough. Would appreciate anymore comments and suggestions. Anything your mind can conceive you can achieve |
Nice Yarns! you should be a writer. But @ least you should have said that your son should have a 2:2 rather than a third class. ![]() Anyway i get the message and as the saying goes '' Pride goes before a fall'' I guess its better to have a third class and rise by the grace of God to glory than be a First class and fall from grace to grass. Nice one thereeeeeee. All the best fellow nairalanders |

I have a passionate belief in the power of advertising and its ability to improve business performance and boost sales. I also believe that advertisement is an investment in your business future and like other forms of investment it should be taken seriously. The reason some businesses fail in nigeria is because of lack of advertisement. Even a good product or good idea will fail if not properly advertised or if their is no proper creation of awareness of the product. Every business needs some amount of media presence to assist in increasing the market awareness of the organization and its product or services. I and a couple of my friends are starting up an advert-based publication that would focus mainly on advertising. If you have a business, no matter how big or small you can advertise there. There is always something for everybody. Take advantage of this offer to polish your company's image to investors, customers and stakeholders through sustained media presence. Lets help you bring that bright idea or business to limelight. We also help write feasibility study, business plans and offer business advisory services. This is the most cost-effective advertising you can get anywhere. For further enquires you can text or call 08053935154 or send a mail to freelancepublishing@gmail.com The man who saves money by not advertising is like the man who stops the clock to save time, freelance |

I knew this girl while we were still in school and i unfortunately feel in love with her but along the line things went bad. The most painful thing now is that i still think about her and can't just let go, am finding it so hard to let go. I think about her virtually everyday and have used every avenue i have to make peace with her but to no avail. Its close to 4years now that my heart has been broken and i can't just stop thinking about her. I can't believe this is happening to me. Its really good loving somebody and the person loving you back and its really painful the otherway round. The funniest thing is that i still love her and won't mind having her back but it just seems that a dream that might not come true. What can i really do to let go ? |

I think you guys should take it easy on yourselves. I think we are your customers indirectly, since the success of your business depends largely on the traffic you attract. That implies that without us your business won't be able to expand and therefore you need more of us to make more money. But if we are not customers then what are we ? .Honestly i think its all kind of mutual.Since i think you are offering on us a service as well. I understand that you are a business man and you are more concerned about the people that put money in your pocket. But would it have been possible without us ?? Anything you mind can conceive, you can achieve |
