PointB: In January 1966, some bunch of over-zealous, albeit naive officers of the Nigeria army took it upon themselves to cleanse Nigeria from corrupt politician. They plotted, and executed an unsuccessful military coup. Stories, and books have been written about them, I shall not attempt to revisit such especially since these folks are late (at least most of them.)

I am interested in the role a certain Mohammadu Buhari played in the July counter-coup. According to Nowa Omoruwa's account:

During he Nzegwu coup, all the premiers and prominent politicians in the North and west were killed.

Somehow Okpra and Azikwe escaped.

The Igbos started this.




I know some will argue here that Mohammadu Buhari simply killed fellow soldiers. But does that make it right?

Nextworldnx: I ask because when I left for service in 2010, though I had a GF before leaving for camp, I got hooked up right from the car park. At the end of the day, I had 3 new GF before our posting came out. Now 2 of those Girls had a loving and steady relationships before they came to camp as well, but we all cheated on our partners all through service year like there is no tomorrow.

Fast-forward to today, my younger brother who have a "fine and succulent" GF here, just left for kaduna Camp as early as 5:00am this morning. I just spoke to him now to know how well his trip was, only for him to tell me how he met 2 girls in the bus he took, going to thesame camp and it seems one of them is interested in him already. They have arrived camp though but they are yet to be registered(the 3 of them are the first in KD camp). They have been together all through the trip and he even gave the phone her for me to get to know her.

Now my question is this, Isn't this whole love and relationship thing a farce? Isn't it fake?.. Isn't it over-hyped..? Because for the love of me, I can't seem to understand why "out-of-sight" is really "out-of-mind".

Because I don't understand why we take cheating to another level when we go for service, and cheat on the love of our lives that we left back home.

Its pathetic.!!

I dunno what the cause is, maybe its Joblessness(trust me,a lot of corpers are idle and sleep away their time, esp in the north), waywardness, lack of morals, or maybe we just wanna catch fun.

Its just getting out of hand. Something needs to be done!

BRAKES let out a deafening screech and steam fills the station as the Lagos-Kano train ends its 30-hour journey. Hundreds of passengers emerge wearily from brightly painted yellow, green and white carriages. It may be sweaty, crowded and very late, but after a ten-year absence this revamped link between Nigeria’s two biggest cities is a welcome relief. Travelling the 1,126km (700 miles) at an average speed of less than 50km an hour with endless stops, it is no wonder the trip takes so long. But for most Nigerians the low fares are worth it. A second-class ticket from Lagos to Kano costs around $12, roughly a quarter of the price of a more treacherous bus ride. “Hundreds of people were waiting at Ilorin [300km north of Lagos] but there wasn’t enough space for us all,” says a mother trying to appease a screaming child on her hip. “I had to stand the whole way.”

The service was relaunched last month after improvements costing $166m. Nigeria’s railways, started in 1898, have deteriorated in the past 20 years owing to those old engines of decay, corruption and mismanagement. Nigerians’ domestic travel options are limited. Most cannot afford to go by air, so take to the roads. Overfilled lorries, usually packed with dozens of passengers sitting on cargo, precariously negotiate crater-sized potholes. One stretch of road, nicknamed “Bauchi or Death”, after a northern state, is littered with overturned lorries and cars.

As well as being dangerous, Nigeria’s woeful transport network slows the economy. A rejuvenated rail network could unplug one of the biggest business bottlenecks. In the short run, freight trains are the priority. The cost of transporting goods on passenger trains is prohibitively expensive. “The charge is almost impossible,” complains Jibrin Bala, a cloth merchant. “On our way here, we had to transfer our goods onto buses.”

The success of the Lagos-Kano route, however slow, indicates the demand for a modern rail network. There are plans to invest in rehabilitating lines along the eastern corridor between Port Harcourt in the south and Maiduguri in the north-east. There is even talk of monorails in a couple of cities. As people scramble on board the new train, it is clear that the Nigerian Railway Corporation will be puffing hard to keep up with demand.
