Ralphjoe:You raised a pertinent issue on the transmission infrastructure which is key, Siemens scope is not to cover power lines at all levels 330kV, 132kV, 33kV or 11kV to withstand weather effects which is our biggest problem, but would install substations (Transformers and associated switching units ) in container form that presupposes a non permanent installation and my biggest grouse is the high tech grid automation using advance Siemens telecoms and software making necessary huge training component. The road map is too favorable to Siemens and not tailored to addressing our monstrous power problems. Why our government did not submit the road map to stakeholders in the power sector to study it and make contributions still beats my imagination. |
My solution is simple, look for home grown solutions and seek external support in areas we are weak. India has similar attributes and believe you me more cost effective than any thing Europe, as the German support comes at a huge price. There are Nigerians who understand our problems more than these foreigners but would not be allowed to get involved for selfish reasons. They say the national grid cannot carry more than 5GW and the Discos in Eko, Ibadan and Ikeja are the heaviest. Section or unbundle the heavy part of the grid in the West and supply with gen stations nearby. That will give stability and reliability to the transmission line. Just as we need to restructure a lot of our system, we need to sectionalize our power system as it is unwieldy. We must improve off grid supplies by reducing extensive transmission lines from generation to load centres. People like you spend so much time criticizing and ridiculing everything, but at the end of the day, your so called great insights are always void of sensible and practical solutions of your own. Why not just educate us per your own road map and what we stand to benefit from your fantastic ideas and how they are better based on your own power audit, the one you conducted to ascertain the fault-lines, the deficiencies across the board from gas transportation, power management, power generation and transmission, billing, metering, financing, generation and transmission forecasts and how to develop generations and transmission to 25,000MW. I'd even love to hear more about your simple solutions, but I'm 100% sure you don't know anything and you won't come up with anything sane and rational.[/quote] |
myboy2111:How is it good? Is it because of the beautiful colour presentation and diagramatics, as far as I am concerned the road map is to give Siemens a good opportunity to make money in finding market for their products. Why spend so much money on the transmission that is weak and old to improve it from 5GW to 7GW by installing 11 container substations and would not get involved in the upgrade of transmission line. I can understand why they had to sack the MD transmission as no optimum result relative to the huge capital outlay. Huge cost on automation and training. We need simple solutions and you cannot copy and paste what is in advance countries and expect good results. Siemens cannot solve our power problems as they are manufacturers not service support providers. Its like bringing Boeing or Embraer who manufacture aircraft to come and run and airline. Some powerful Nigerians are behind this and as usual vested interest. Was Siemens not enmeshed in huge corruption scandal in Nigeria about 10 Years ago. Our country is full of intrigues and too much vested interest that would not make us carry out due diligence. I have my strong skeptism over this roadmap. I pray it works as it may be a last ditch effort in our time. |
Carmit:Has APC done any better? If you ask me APC is even worse. A party that is All progressive and has not made any progress from the ruins of PDP. Check the indeces it is clear APC is worse In 16 years of PDP Nigeria had 10 trillion Naira debt in 4 years of APC a whooping 14 trillion. Our roads are worse off Power supply we are worse off Security we are worse off Education we are worse off Our judiciary is worse off Even corruption we worse off Economically we are worse off Even INEC we are worse off Vote buying we are worse off Nigerians were not this divided Our elections are worse off 2019 election way worse off than 2015 even we experienced 3 times fatalities than 2015. What a tragedy and I pity the masses and unfortunately no alternative to APC/PDP with the way we are amassing debts this country would soon be on its knees. Nigerians are getting poorer every day by unthinkable taxes even on our ATM. Our democracy appears doomed in this country as the regression is frightening. Even the little freedom that makes democracy attractive is threatened by the charges of fake news. Let nobody tell me APC is better as it is evidently clear they are not. |
These cars are expensive, exotic with high end designs of exquisite interior. He must have taste for upscale cars but somebody should advise him that they are better for Royalties and not for the nouveau rich like him. He should invest in viable bizness maybe propertyas those two cars can give him an estate which he can fall back on on retirement. Football has a short career and you could go broke so fast once you start losing form or even injury. He should learn from our ex footballers who had illustrious years, years back. |
GrammarNazi1:I get your point, but you let's believe in social communication as in social media the grammar is clearly informal, remember you said her grammar is horrible ( very bad or horrifying) so we don't have to be hypercritical if instead of deserve she wrote deserves, sometimes auto correct could even change that but it's an informal setting and many don't review or proof read. Any way you are a grammar Nazi man! |
GrammarNazi1:I don't see anything wrong with her English, or perhaps you found error in the op's use of the word obliterate which is to wipe out completely. Lampoon would have been a better word. |
ikennaf1:I never made any reference to selfish governors not endorsing him but the allusion is clear and you got it but that was encapsulated in privileged political office holders in this context in Igbo land and I do not think all the views of some of these privileged political office holders are projecting are that of the Igbo commoners but the message is clear they have to close ranks in championing the interest of the Igbo nation. |
seunfly:Obi is in a class of his and their attempt to rubbish him is more out of envy and bitterness. My friend told me he met Obi in a plane at Heathrow with just one aide as a governor then. I have also met Obi severally in the plane flying economy class as a governor, that is exemplary or uncommon. In my flying experience home and abroad never flew in higher classes and seeing Obi a governor showing it was no big deal made a lasting impression. I was also very familiar with his prudent governance as he paid counterpart funds promptly during EU projects and Anambra was heavily indebted years back during Mbadinuju owing more than 9 months salaries but it is currently the least indebted State in the country and compared to my Delta State, it is very clear Obi left a legacy. If all our politicians can adopt Obi's prudent style, Nigeria will change in 6 months as the leaks in governance is the reason of our problems. What we must understand the privileged office holders enjoy extraordinary benefits at the detriments of the masses and do not like a conservative Obi for their selfish reasons. If the Ibos cannot support their own they should not cry marginalisation as the West are already lobbying that they would endorse any of their own. |

Edcure1:Brilliant, I wish you are the personal adviser of PMB, as the lack of wisdom tact and moderation is clearly missing in his government. |
masinga07:Nice comment we need a better country and for one who has worked in every part of the country we must work to unify the country the biggest undoing of the current govt, this is even very serious in the middle belt as they were not protected against so much onslaught of the herders. We must stem the disunity as nothing kills a nation as it. |
boldking:No wa for you! How she come look like Isoko and her name is Igwe is funny. But on a serious note not nice to paint all Isoko girls with your allusion, there is the good the bad the ugly in every tribe. |
Earthbound:It is not exactly wrong to use the word Youths for young persons as it can be countable in many contexts particularly if it is referring to young persons, and not countable with reference to the state of being young or part of one's childhood. There is thus no blunder to say Nigerian youths or Northern Nigerian youths, so let's not be irritated by the flexibility of the usage of the word depending on preference. |
kimjongJezebel:This your assertion is so critical, perhaps he has not been very broad minded and visionary in his style, and if he can whittle down the influence of some members of the cabal, he would do well. |
MRAKBEE:The current one is a monumental failure bringing so much sadness to so many and unfortunately has beaten the former admin in almost all areas : decline in health, power and educational sectors, increasing in our debts, corruption, insecurity, unemployment, favouritism, nepotism, sectionalism, islamophobia, fulaniphobia, cattlephobia. |
The poor sign boarb showing poor lettering, wrong spelling of senatorial and generally shoddy appearance of the project sign board speaks volumes of the substandard construction of a culvert (platform that tunnels a stream or drain). I hope it would not collapse under a heavy vehicle. The Senator should have carried out oversight function on the executive in implementing the project and I am too sure he would not have accepted this substandard work. It is a manifestation of a disjointed arrangement where he who finances executes with no supervision or oversight. |
Ijebu Ode is good and Sagamu before the Lagos Ibadan interchange is better and nearer with the road to Ibadan smoother. However, go to the nearest commercial park for easy transport. |
Baron75: GEJ is not daft, he is purely civil and that is how a democratic leader should be, allowing criticisms and finding civilized solution to insurgency without violating people's right to life. What OBJ did in Odi, Bayalsa state is barbaric, rascally and rash, devoid of reason and respect for human life. I don't know when Nigerians will become sane in their thinking. An American president cannot come close to taking the life of the smallest American. But here, we clamor for someone who will rule us with iron hand and scorpion. If we find him, God forbid, we will turn around and start crying. We Nigerians are always Gd at making bad choices. Our choices of Tafawa Belewa against Nnamdi Azikiwe, Shagari against Awolowo, and Obasanjo against Alex Ekwueme are all baffling, and we have seen where these choices led us to. If we continue to make such choices, we will never stand up as a nation.Perhaps the best of all responses. We seem to forgotten so soon the frequent fuel scarcity especially during such festive period. Never in the history of this country have we had such high level of democratic freedom and ironically no political assassinations. The press fredom is unprecedented. Have we also forgotten the terrible stat state of our trunk roads Benin Ore and Abuja Lokoja no more traffic gridlock in such a period. The airports have improved tremendously as against many years back when our Lagos Airport was described as among the worst in the World. What about the so much in the Agriculture sector that is been aplauded outside. The power sector changes are purpose driven with hopefully improved results. There are 9 new Fed. Universities. It appears a lot of prejudice against GEJ to frustrate his govt. to thwart any ambition for 2015. I have my grouse against GEJ as not been assertive enough and more dynamic leadership. In spite of all the challenges the progress is gradually noticable. There are more jaundiced critisism than constructive. |
I have done an assessment of a product of a Ghananian public university and that of a Nigerian contemporary of the same course and found the Nigerian product more qualified in spite of the lower class of degree as against that from Ghana who had a higher class. My submission is that the good schools in Nigeria are not as bad as potrayed. |
Ikegift4real: D lions Den on fire. . As an alumni let me reserve dis space so dat i'll ask my former HOD what happened. Are you sure you are an alumnus of that school? |
What is informing your opinion? How old are you and what is the relative size of manhood to age. No clear parameters but if you feel it is small for an average adult size it is not much to worry about if it is healthy. |
A very critical editorial ends up loosing its objective by not achieving the purpose as it gives credence to the notion that it was sponsored by the opposition or enemies of the Govt. Some highlights of some reasonable achievement would have disabused the idea that the opinion is jaundiced. With certainty, the Jon. Govt has very low marks in fighting corruption as all Govts.(State, Local, Judiciary and Legislators), however, we need to commend the govt on the strides in rehabilitating our roads, the airports and reforms in the power sector. We must also not be unmindful of where we were before the Govt, which sector of our Nation was not sick before the advent of the current Govt. The decay had been deep and deep rooted. No Govt in this Country had suffered from all sorts of powerful forces ganging up as opposition Regional, Tribal and Religious as the Jonathan's Govt. Against the backdrop of the complexities and the fact that various forces want to pull down the govt and virtually very little or hypocritical support, the Jon. Govt has weathered the storm and should be encouraged or constructively criticized. A cynical or hypercritical position beclouds the sense of an unbiased assessment. |

Godjone: That is how though military men talk. If it were Obj, boko haram issue wud av become history. I remember once a soldier always a soldier. We need ppl lyk OBJ to teach those fools a lessonHow did Obj solve the Niger Delta Crises that was not motivated by External forces or Religion. If Obj had been able to nip the clamour for Sharia in the bud when it started in Zamfara State,Boko Haram would not have grown or become emboldened to have pushed their venom to excalation level. Obj suspended Federal Allocation to Lagos State over LG creation for months and pretended that Sharia was a non issue. These are contradictions. I do not believe the federal might or brute force would have solved the Boko Crises but a gradual dislocation of the group by passive militancy(Modicum of force and peaceful overtures. The collateral damage if force had been used would have caused more damage. All Boko Group wanted was to provoke GEJ to frontally attacked directly the North or Muslims in the Country as a catalyst to draw up the large army of muslim adherents to their side if GEJ had not applied tact and moderation. It is only a parochial mind that would suggest a forceful approach. The Invasion Of Odi did not solve Niger Delta Crises. Abacha's killing of Saro Wiwa did not eradicate the Ogoni problem but rather the issues became more complex and hydra headed. Let us be more objective and proffer broad minded solutions, definately not military style but constructive engagement of the multi dimensional roots of the problem |
plaetton: In the land of the blind , the one-eyed man is king.If we look at the projects Obj wasted money on, he has no place in the good books of History. 3rd term project, National ID Card, Census, Oputa panel, Worst elections(None in 2007) in History,Sold all Govt. Assets, No single Fed road constructed or rehabilitated against the billions removed from fed purse, pls were are his legacies? Abj National stadium, debts paid at a price. No Nig Govt got the revenue Obj got from the high oil prices and the national assets sold or GSM license and all the recovered loots. Lets be analytical, Even IBB has more legacies than OBj. Pls Obj should feel ashamed that his kinsmen do not have anything to show for 8yrs. Abeokuta Rd bad either from Ota or Ibadan express end. Go to Minna, they are proud of IBB, Go to Bayelsa they now have a Fed Uni and Law School. Let us look for Obj legacies anywhere, then we can commend him |
gbadexy: @dedeikeInterestingly, these assertions about GEJ achievements are true and like you observed, the downsides of the adminstration would have to be highlighted corruption, extravagance, ineptitude by not acting decisively against erring govt. officials. But we must accept that a lot of these problems are inherited and largely structural in a very defective system. Ironically, GEJ weakness was OBJ strength, His Strength was OBJ weakness. While OBJ could be couragous and decisive then, he never gave his delegated authorities the free hand and that is GEJ strength, expalianing why we are having better elections, and power is improving, so are some other govt. agencies. Let us all critisize constructively as you have done, not out of malice or pull him down syndrome. We all have stakes in GEJ doing well, afterall we should look at the madness in Syria, and feel grateful that it is not as bad, but we want more. With some faith and fortitude as well as keeping our leaders on their toes we would have a much better country. |
Go for a 4 Runner as it is more rugged, and more maintainable locally though not as elegant as the QX4 in its interior and exterior |

“There was no casualty recorded during the incident; however, the two aircraft had to abort their missions. This happened hours after another Arik plane in Jos brushed the wing of a parked Nigeria Air Force plane, causing substantial damage to the two aircraft Notice the (s) missing from Aircraft(s)..daft journalists. Very harsh to describe the journalist as daft(silly)even if it were a grammatical blunder. Let us be less critical and allow a modicum of politeness to guide our opinion or judgement, particularly against a background that such a submission may be wrong or subjective |
