Music/RadioRe: Sunny Ade Vs Ebenezer Obey: Who Do You Prefer? by funnyx(m): 12:02pm On Apr 12, 2013
mikeapollo: Why the abuse? Why the insults?

Well, I am well bred with good home-training, so I dont trade abuses and insults online.
You are free to exhibit the kind of training and upbringing you are made of.

What I wrote about Obey and Sunny are the facts. Obey was the first person to introduce multiple guitars, western drum kits among other numerous innovations, but he does not brag, unlike Sunny. Obey was the one that modernised Juju music before Sunny joined the train!

Who is Alaafin of Oyo in music? What does Alaafin know about music? What authority does Alaafin have in music?
So what happens if Ooni of Ife or any other Oba should just wake up and say some other musician is the king of Juju or Fuji or whatever? Obey avoided calls for him to be crowned as King by other Obas in Yoruba land like the Alake and Ooni.
Dont be deceived by some people who give some spurious awards to their favourite musician.May be you dont know that most of the so-called awards are solicited and arranged by the musicians themselves in order to boost their profile and marketability!Do you know how many 'Kings' we have in Fuji music now?
Well, I dont blame you if you do not know....you have already displayed your level of maturity in your first sentence

Obey is better than Sunny in all aspects of Juju music, except stagemanship and dancing.
What Obey lacks in stage craft, he covers with un-paralled ability in great lyrics, compositions, arrangement, instrumentation, percussions, delivery etc. His songs are timeless.

Obey's kind of musician is very rare...If you do not know, go and ask your elders!
Thumb up for you!
I'm a die hard Obey fan I listen to his music EVERYDAY and sometimes I cannot but wonder how he got the inspiration to compose many of his wonderful songs. I'm going to start Ober fan thread on NL where all lovers of this legend can come together to share and enjoy his songs together.
My day is not complete without listening to Obey, right now even at work I'm miming evergreen song 16 track 1: yungba yungba

madjune: The problem we have today is,most young Nigerians who may be nairalanders were kids when Buhari ruled Nigeria. I'm a proud catholic from the south,a lover of democracy and witnessed this man's style in 1983. He meant well. He is a sanitizer. That's why 1BB didn't like him. If anyone wants Nigeria to be as functional as Ghana, you better look beyond religion, tribe or boko haram scare and vote this man. Naira was stronger than the dollar under this man. Babangida messed it all up.
Yes you're right a lot of posters on this forum are either not born or too young to witness the regime of Gen Buhari. Nigerians are very tough and obstinate people we need a real patriot and a disciplinarian like Buhari to change Nigeria.

@OP
If you do not live in Nigeria and experience what Nigerians experience daily living under a corrupt govt and govt who does not in any way care about their wellbeing then you are not ENTITLED to have any opinion on this issue.
For instance I do not live in Cameroun and whatever I know about the country was through the internet so how can I form an opinion about the Camerounian president and even deem it fit to argue with the Camerounians about what they feel for their president?

So if you are not a mischief maker and an incompetent journalist you will need to come down to Nigeria and live there for some time, only then will you have any moral right to promote Nigeria and the Nigerian president even in the midst of criticism by Nigerians.

adaobi123: lol nigerian parents in the UK send their children back to Nigeria if they are behaving badly, as they believe they can be disciplined there, but i beg to differ grin grin
Its works for some children but definitely not all, it depends on the support put in place for the child being taken to Nigeria. If the child is 'dumped' with a bad relative and with no support he/she might turn out to be worse.

naijababe: This is true, bought our own box from some Turkish guy in the Netherlands in 2009 and pay 100 euros annually and it is still working. Get a motorised dish and you can watch 'gbogbo' Europe like he said.
I've been using mine for 3 years now, pays £100 annually with a motorised dish, technomate box and internet connection, I watch all sky channels like no tomorrow especially my favourite channels like investigation discovery, CI and Nat Geo.

chaircover: i haven't read all 50 pages lol, but I am hoping that some people are thinking out of the box. Yes £500 sounds like a lot of money especially if you haven't got it, however lets look beyond this and look at other things.

On Tuesday, i drove up the motorway doing 80mph to 100mph, I wasn't stressed at that speed because I knew that I had original brakes, good tyres and a good road and no sudden craters or debris appearing in the road.

My kids go to school free, they have free dental and medical treatment, one has free public transport travel and If I wasn't working, they will have free school dinners. There are also heaps of activities that they attend free or subsidized such as Italian lessons, music lessons, sports and all what not. We have 4 library's in my city and they can take out books, Cd's, magazines etc for free.

If I dial 999, I will have an ambulance, police officer or fire engine within 5 minutes. If I am too ill to to my regular doctor, I call him and he comes out free. I go to A&E and I am seen for free and treated like a human being. I am not left to die because I cant afford to pay for my treatment. My local NHS hospital also has a helicopter on standby to get people to hospital in an emergency. Ive actually seen the helicopter land on the motorway to take an accident victim to hospital and you will be amazed at the speed in which the emergency services stop the traffic and get the traffic moving again afterwards.

When I am pregnant I get free medication and dental treatment for a year and the govt gives me approx £60 a month for each child till they are 18 years old regardless of what I earn.

I have access to my MP that I voted in and if I am not happy with the service of any company that I visit I report to the trading standards and it is looked into. I can buy things from a shop, take it home, change my mind and return the item to the shop for a full refund. My bins are emptied every week and my close is swept every week too. The bushes and the grass is cut too from time to time. There are street lights outside my house which come on every evening and go off in the morning. There is a big park within a 2 minute walk from my house with benches and children's outside play swings etc

There is also accountability. A month ago my husband was stopped by the police and accused him of letting my daughter ride in the car without a seat belt. She did have a seatbelt on BTW but he accused her of putting it on after she saw him. Basically he called her a lair. My husband was livid and made a formal complaint to the police commission. They sent 2 senior police officers out to our home within days to come and sort things out. They listened to what happened and They apologized on behalf of the police force, but we said it was my daughter they upset and she was at school at the time. They came back the very next day and apologized to her personally and took her to their car to show her the gadgets (you know kids and gadgets)

When I am paying my bills, I am not just paying for gas and electric, I am paying for peace of mind and a sane lifestyle.
You nailed it!
