The USA immigration reforms is long overdue, the current system is obsolete for the modern world. As for the DV lottery I think is one of the most ridiculous immigration route, immigration should be based on merit and not on lottery.

Ishilove: I do, but never deeply. I have never missed a busstop because of sleep. The only time I have ever come close to missing my busstop was some years back. I and some of my coursemates had gone to a certain bar in Maryland, Lagos to hang out. We took nkwobi and cold drinks. I don't take alcohol because I have low alcohol tolerance, but that day, I was feeling funky with myself, so I took two bottles of chilled smirnoff ice. As I swallowed the last mouthful, my head started spinning. I was almost literally carried out of the bar because I could barely stand upright. My peeps led me to the bus that I was to board, put me in the front seat with the driver, paid my t-fare and told the driver which busstop I was to alight.

Immediately I sat down, fell into a very deep sleep and woke up when somebody tapped me and said 'sister, we don reach ya bustop'. I stumbled out of the vehicle, leaving one leg of my shoe in the bus. I would have probably walked home with just one shoe if the same good samaritan had not noticed my feet and run back to the bus to retrieve the forgotten shoe. He took my hands and helped me cross the fairly busy express road. After crossing, he told me that the driver had completely forgotten about me, and if not for him, the driver would have driven me all the way to Ogun state. He had heard when my friends had instructed the driver, and luckily for me, we were going the same direction, so he woke me up when we got there.

After that day, I swore off alcohol totally. Well, almost.

I usually close late from work and wont get home until 10pm - 10:30pm everyday and i must be out of bed by 4am-4:30am to meet up with 5am deadline of leaving for work or else i will be late for. You dont just condemn people for sleeping in public bus without knowing the conditions that makes them to sleep. @Poster: Sleep has nothing to do with fine boy or pretty lady.....my advice... sleep if you can......

Men! This is one reason why I hate Lagos and can never live there, waking up 4am everyday! that type of lifestyle can shorten one's life but wetin man go do, I respect Lagosians for their energy and hardworking attitude.

I have never slept in public transport even if I'm travelling from Ibadan to Kano but when I'm travelling by air, especially night flight (long haul) I'll definitely sleep.

shadrach77: For the final time on this thread let me educate some younger NL members about a thng or two concerning music.In yoruba music parlance there is what we call "alujo" meaning 'danceable/funky music', there is also what is known as "alugbo" meaning 'philosophical music/music for easy listening. Obey, being a man who is naturally quiet knew he couldn't do well if he sang alujo hence his decision to settle for alugbo. Sunny on the other hand, being a good dancer and a more versatle musician decided to combine the two. Those who say sunny's songs are not philosophical have never listened to his music

There are several 'alujo' tracks of Obey as well albeit not as much as Sunny, may be you've not listened to them.

Are great alujo tracks which people rocked very well especially in parties in the 80's and early 90's.

naijababe: I think we all tend to dismiss Sunny's philosophical lyrics because they are often accompanied by up tempo beats, the immediate reaction to Sunny's music is to either dance or listen to his unique use of instruments to the detriment of an appreciation of his deep lyrics. I didn't appreciate Sunny's lyrical prowess until I was older myself, however, I always listened to Obey's lyrics because he's often telling stories which I found fascinating even as a child because his style is quite mellow in comparison. LPs like 'The Child', Merciful God, Conscience are just as deep as as philosophical as any Obey album.

Obey's mellow's style kinda make you listen and introspective anyway which in my opinion is the reason why people think he's better at composition.

I do not dispute Sunny's ability to compose philosophical lyrics but like I stated above for every one composed by Sunny there are at least 4 to 6 composed by Obey.
Lets just agree that these 2 great singers are legends but if they have to be rated on each aspects of music there will be areas where one will be better than the other. Apart from that there's no way individual preferences and bias will not always come to play.

The second track titled ketekete is very popular even among non Yorubas, I've heard how many Hausas, Ibos and even Ghanaians rock this track.

naijababe: And it is absolutely ridiculous that most posters on this thread accuse Sunny of praise singing when Obey's greatest hit is 'Board Members'. That LP was praise singing from the beginning to the end.

I don't like it when people pit two masters against each other. Both men are geniuses in my opinion and I listen to both extensively depending on my mood.

Many posters here may be very young, I believe that's why they make such submission. Obey is legendary when it comes to praise singing especially the composition of his lyrics. Board members that you stated above is one of the best and to my surprise, I learnt that the track was never rehearsed. There are many more like where he praised Olusegun Osoba (Album Determination), Bode Osinusi, MKO Abiola and most importantly Imortality for the memory of the late sage Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Sunny is great with lyrics also no doubt but Obey beats him hands down just as he's better than Obey in beats and stage entertainment.
The track you posted above (eri okan) can only be composed by a genius no doubt but for any one of Sunny track like this there are at least 4 or 6 of such tracks composed by Obey, from the very old one like; Ore mi ye se pelepele, eni ri nkan he, oro awa eda nile aye, to not very old ones like gbeja mi o, orisirisi ore lo wa, mo ti pinu, generation to generation and many more.

I am willing to learn from others about Obey's music and will also contribute as much as possible according to my knowledge of his music.
As much as I know Obey has been singing since the early sixties and released several albums since then, if you have spotify on your computer you can listen to 'Obey in the 60's Vol 1 and 2, you'll be surprised that those tracks were released in the 60's.

I believe that at some point, due to popular demand and the need to harmonise several of his albums together, Nira sounds started to compile Obey's albums into evergreen songs. Each evergreen songs contains tracks from different albums released in different years and even decades apart.

As far as I know, there is up to 44 evergreen songs, I will try to review the one that I know one after the other. I hope others that knows more about these tracks would also contribute.

Again Sunny us a better entertainer because of his stage showmanship and that can easily lure foreign fans. Any musician with stage craft will always wow the white man

Obey made several foreign trips in the 70s and started planning his retirement in the 80s, so he was started tuning down his foreign trips. That was the time Sunny was at his peak in making foreign travels.

As per celebrations....Obey was far ahead when he was in active music. He was the artist of choice for the biggest social clubs....Island club, Tennis club, Laggos Country club, Ikeja Club etc.
His songs were more philosophical and relevant to life issues/events e.g birthdays, marriage, funerals, house-warming etc than Sunny's songs.

Please, try and get some of Obey's past life plays/shows of the 80s/90s on CD....they are still fresh and relevant till today

I have a lot of respect for KSA especially his energy and stage performance abilities. Also KSA established himself as a brand that appeals to the youth as well as foreigners and for that reasons many tend to rate him higher than Obey. However, for those who really understand what music is in terms of its lyrics and the message it conveys they'll give it to Obey anytime and anyday.

iykak47: Even though i don't understand Yoruba language much but i still believe Ebenezer Obey is ahead of Sunny Ade despite that Sunny Ade is the father of stage showmanship. Olomi gbo temi, Ota mi dehin, Ori mi ko ni buru are some of Obey's songs you can't beat.

Lyrics wise Obey is better, sometimes I wonder where he got the inspiration from, many musicians today get their lyrics from past Obey songs but the youngsters of today don't know this as many don't listen to old schools songs.
