Hi bro, I cannot suggest schools for you as I am not in the same field as you. Besides, there aren't that many universities in Australia - so you can actually go through each's website to ascertain which ones offer your proposed course. PhD applications aren't that easy and I would advise that you have a quick read on the admission process. I believe with your CGPA, you'll get admissions into the top 5 Universities here. Mind you, without a publication (at least), getting a full ride scholarship can be really difficult. The first thing is to identify the schools you would like to go and start contacting potential supervisors as that is one hurdle you must scale before you can apply for admissions.

I just got admission to Charles Stuart university for my PhD. Please, I need anybody in that school / australian uni to put me through on some things.

I was given a conditional admission to notarize my credentials and that a phone interview will be conducted. Anybody who has an idea on how this is conducted should please help me.

Although, the supervisor said he would be able to support me during my application but the admission offer letter didn't carry any information as regards funding or scholarships. Am I to apply for scholarship? If yes, how do international students secure such?

I saw information regarding tuition in the offer letter, are am to pay the first tuition here in Nigeria or it can be paid there?

Please, guys help with these questions. Thank you

Congrats on your PhD admission. Outcomes for PhD admission and scholarship are usually separate. For example, it is possible that one got an admission but did not get offered a scholarship. There is usually (at least, from personal experience) no separate application for scholarship as a decision can be reached using the same documents you have previously submitted for admission.

I did not know some schools now conduct phone interviews, I hope that goes well for you. Just google some sample questions, practise your responses and speak very clearly (and not too fast) during the interview and you will be fine.

Congrats on your doctorate brother. You can also check SEEK job site, schools advertise postdoc openings on there. Another approach would be to contact Profs/PIs directly, asking whether there will be a postdoc opening in their lab/group soon. Overall, the postdoc market in Australia is very competitive. It is important that one has at least a publication (in a decent journal) from their PhD to even stand a chance. All the best.

1. You don't need "points" to apply for MSc programs. The point system only applies to Permanent Residency applications. However, you still need to show proficiency in the use of English language by completing one of those tests of English.

2. For a favorable outcome, you would need to answer the same name as your sponsor or be ready to provide some documents that establish relationship between you both. I am not too sure about this, hope you get some inputs from other forum members.

Really bro? It's PhD for God's sake.

PhD is a full time job on it's own and that's why some assessing bodies take years of PhD study as years of work experience. Believe me, the unlimited work hours for PhD students is practically useless. They know we will never have that luxury of time to maximize those hours. Almost all, if not all international PhD students in Australia are genuinely here to study. PhD is not something you can have "one leg in, one leg out", you need to have "both legs in" it. Going with the former may lead such student to being kicked out of their program or asked to transfer to MPhil.

Life as a PhD student is hard, not only in Australia but in all advanced countries where kick a s s research is valued. POTUSUK, let me know if you have specific questions that you would like me to answer. Feeling kinda lazy now.

...and yes, you do not need an Australian address to lodge an application for student visa.

My advise to the newly arrived students and those that will arrive in the nearest future is to try and make yourself employable. I understand that a few people have been lucky to secure a P/T or casual job without taking any short courses, but there are some jobs you can't get without taking necessary courses.

I would suggest that you do your research even before leaving Nigeria. Make a decision on the kind of casual job you would like to do and as soon as you arrive, enroll on the required short course for your preferred job.

Overall, y'all need to have plans. Don't just jump on that plane without having plans.

You have a decent GPA, well done! My knowledge in that area is outdated, I believe. I successfully applied to some schools more than 2 years ago. I know for sure that with that GPA and decent GRE scores, you'll get fully-funded PhD offers in Yankee. In order not to keep derailing this thread with Non-Australian matters

, I would suggest that you jump on the US thread. I bet there are current and past PhD students on there.

1. I disagree with RedReact. I would be very surprised if you got a PhD admission with your BSc degree. I am yet to meet someone here who got a PhD position straight outta BSc. Even Australians do Honours degree for a year before applying for PhD. According to my Uni's grad school, one may get an offer with an exceptionally good profile. For example, if the applicant has > two years solid research experience and some good research papers in some really high impact journals like Nature, Science, Cell, Brain etc. In sum, you should consider doing a MSc.

2. Yes, there are partial and full scholarships, albeit very competitive (I can not stress this enough).

3. Of course, there are postdocs positions (a.k.a jobs after PhD, the transition phase to Assistant professorship positions), but I think you should be more focused on how to get an offer.

4. Based on my experience, I would advise you consider USA. You will be able to apply directly for PhD programs over there, however you will need a decent GRE score, GPA, etc.

Ok thanks for the clarification. Chi50 has already answer your question. If a Medical Officer of Commonwealth assessed your case as "meets with undertaking", you will be required to sign an undertaking that you'll follow up when you get to Australia. In sum, you can still get your visa if "they see something around your lungs".
