HealthRe: Nigerian Woman Dies Of Ebola In Dubai by FutureDon(m): 1:54pm On Aug 18, 2014
It worries me a lot that these international news agencies are always in a rush to publish stories about a Nigerian with ''suspected'' case of ebola virus disease. Those bunch of mofos should wait for tests' result nah.

I really hope the test comes out negative.

HudsonBanks: Please shed more light on this cos I already decided to book arik one way. Is it the arik officials that will stop you from boarding or who? It doesn't make sense considering I'll be there for a year
You'll be fine with just one way, don't be bothered.

Congrats bossladyMo

I wish you speedy processing in other stages ahead.
TravelRe: General Australian Visa Enquiries by FutureDon(m): 2:07pm On Aug 12, 2014
Based on my limited knowledge, a prospective student can NOT lodge an ONLINE application more than 124days ahead of program commencement date stated on the offer letter. However, students lodging paper applications can do so at anytime. Since Nigerians submit paper applications, I would expect that one can apply for a student visa (SVP inclusive) whenever s/he so desires. In other words, a prospective student from Nigeria can apply as soon as s/he receives a CoE.

ceazar: I have been able to confirm that my program and school qualifies for SVP. There is an aspect of the visa checklist that asks for this - Proof of ties with home country/incentive to return to home country: All applicants are required to provide evidence of ties with the home country and incentive to return to home country What do you think would be the best document to use to satisfy this requirement?
Excellent!

Now to your tricky question - I've had the opportunity to advise 3 people going for BSc, they all got their visas. Since they had no landed properties (to demonstrate home ties) at the time of applying, we made sure their SoP strongly demonstrate their intention to return home on completion of their program - this is very important. I would be happy to help you review your drafts at NO COST if you need me to.

Abeg, I'm not an agent oooo, these are people just known to me.

ceazar: Thanks a lot FutureDon. I almost forgot about my statement of purpose. I would speak to my agent about the SVP declaration form as it was not attached to my offer letter. All i got was an acceptance form and an acceptance checklist for AL3$4 and i am certain that Deakin Uni is under SVP. Is there anything else you think i should add?
1. I think the name varies across institutions. For example, some institution refers to it as ''Declaration of Financial Capacity'' or simply ''Financial Declaration''.

2. Type of Program (e.g. BSc, MSc, MPhil, PhD...) and NOT type of institution determines if one qualifies for SVP.

busola78: Hello futuredon, pls am new here nd i will want u to explain wat u mean dat for student app u dont need a bank statement.@ceazar pls wat the 535usd for, also hw much did u pay to get the Coe?thanks all
You can find more information about SVP here:

Streamlined student visa processing arrangements have been available since 24 March 2012 for prospective international students with a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from a participating university at bachelor, masters or doctoral degree level or for a non-award university student exchange or study abroad programme. These applicants are assessed as though they are lower migration risk (similar to the current Assessment Level 1), regardless of their country of origin.

ceazar: When i applied for my course at Deakin Uni, i was asked to send a 1mth statement of account which i did before getting my CoE. When i called Deakin Uni, they said that they do the financial checks so that the visa board wouldn't have to. Hence i didn't think i would be asked for another 3 months financial statement for my visa application. Please can the house help me shed more light to this as i don't have the required money in my sponsor's account. Would i have issues if i refuse to include any financial statement to my application documents considering the fact that SVP is supposed to do so?
As far as SVP is concerned, you do not need items 7, 9, 10, 11. I'm sure you have already signed an SVP declaration form attached to your admission offer letter. If not, the Uni wouldn't have issued a CoE. However, I have come to realise that agents tend to ask for whatever documents they could think of, irrespective of the visa category.

Since you do not have the statement of account available, talk to your agent to let you submit your visa application without it. I understand they may be unwilling to accept this request. It is highly unlikely that the embassy would request for it as it is not a requirement under SVP.

In addition, do not forget to include a Statement of Purpose (max 2pages) as it is very important.

ironbender101: Good day ma people on this thread. My brother just got he's COE letter, please I need a brief and concise info to apply for he's visa. Secondly, he has just about a month and a week to resume he's study in AU. Thanks
Ask him to read this: http://www.vfsglobal.com/australia/nigeria/student.html You can ask specific questions if he hits a roadblock. A month and a week is enough time to apply if he's applying under SVP.

Cheers!

Olola15: I just got my visa and am planning to come into Uk on Monday.Somebody mentioned to me that i have to get a return ticket. How thru is this as my plan is to get a one way ticket.
If you are going on a student visa for a program with a duration of 12months and above, YOU DO NOT NEED A RETURN TICKET. I was fed the same bs during my time.

@equlibrium, spot on bro!

@tblackE61
My question to you is: Do you work on a ship that goes around the world, particularly Australia? If the answer is ''NO'', then you don't have a visa just as equlibrium has mentioned. I suggest you start looking at less complicated visa categories because you MUST enter Australia through the sea with that kind of visa you are holding. If you plan to enter by plane, you must apply for another type of visa.

Unfortunately, your agent deceived you into believing that any type of Australia visa guarantees your rights to living and working on Australian soil. I'm afraid, but this is usually not the case.

It's either you have been scammed or the scamming is in process. You sound too desperate bro. As long as you are holding a Nigerian passport ONLY, if it's not verifiable on VEVO, the so called visa issued to you is fake.

Adesam01: I checked online and I saw some of his publications! He recently published the second edition of his book "Handbook of African Medicinal Plants" with Taylor and Francis group (CRC Press) and the book has over 900 citations, I saw the preview on Google books.

I feel his works are quite impressive.

Thank you for providing that link, I was busy looking for his related work in form of published papers smiley

I looked through a few pages of the book - we don't know if the ''ebola cure research'' even earned any citation since the book covered a range of topics.

EbolaGoingHam: I spent last night carrying out research on bitter kola too, but i didn't see anything because there wasn't a laboratory to carry out full experiment. i was just using my laptop
I did too, but found nothing insightful. If true, one would expect to see published papers or citations demonstrating its efficacy/replicability. In addition, one would expect a novel discovery as this one (if truly it is) to be published in high impact journal.

Congrats on the IELTS result. Documents' certification is easy and straightforward, make photocopies of the documents you would like to certify and take them to any high court (I'm more familiar with this). Do not forget to take along the originals too as it would be required for sighting.

kingsbeko: . But u hav to take IELTS for aussie embassy will need it
Not entirely true. I know a few people (going for BSc/MSc) who got their visas without submitting any test of English result during visa application. According to Australia Immi Dept., it is the responsibility of the admitting School to assess prospective students' proficiency in English Language. It is unusual that the embassy will request for it.

lovelydamsel: Lols there's the sponsorship section.I filled in my parents name but that document upload I don't know what to upload there.'M trying to fill their form.please do I have to upload anything there since its my parents that are sponsoring me?

In short eh I have plenty questions about australia.
Perhaps, they are referring to sponsorship letters from people who already has some sort of award/funding from an external body. I believe you should be able to skip that part.

Ask your questions, people are generally nice on this thread.

Majority of the Universities waive it for Nigerians. So you won't even need it in most cases.

Ugochux: I'm yet to hear from the house..
bossladyMo: Someone should pls answer this...
Since no one has responded yet, let me give it a shot as I am still a learner:

1. Application fees (usually free for most schools) and maybe about 3,000 Naira for documents certification (depending on the number of documents).
2. Tuition (available on your proposed school's website)
3. Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) - AUD $ 1, 412 (approximate cost for 30months). Your Uni will advise (usually stated on admission offer letters) on the exact amount to pay. It will definitely be more that this if you plan go to with your wife and kids.

Depending on your institution, you may only be asked to pay half of your annual tuition AND the complete payment for your OSHC before your confirmation of enrolment (CoE) letter can be issued. You'll need this letter during visa application.

4. Estimated living expenses - AUD $18, 610 per year (according to Australia Immigration Department). You would only declare that you can afford this amount. You do not need to submit any proof of funds under the streamlined visa processing (SVP) category.

5. Travel ticket to Melbourne - USD $ 1, 600 approximately depending on when you buy the ticket.
6. Visa application fee - AUD $535
7. VFS (application center) charges - 25, 000 Naira ?? (someone else should please confirm if this is correct, thanks).
8. Medicals (including X-ray) - Around 50,000 Naira ?? (someone else should please confirm if this is correct, thanks).

Edited: VFS (application center) charges is 28,850 Naira as listed on their website.

Cheers and best of wishes.
TravelRe: General Australian Visa Enquiries by FutureDon(m): 8:07am On Jul 28, 2014
Aside cutting expenses, one thing I like about what you guys are suggesting is that one may also use this method to avoid sitting on the plane for long hours. For example, a flight from LOS - SIN - BNE is around 7hrs - 7hrs - 7hrs. If booking about a month ahead, it cost about $1635 (Emirates). The only deal breaker - one has to obtain a transit visa pre-arrival.

Aim: To cut expenses (not much I guess) and to avoid sitting on the plane for long hours.

I find a flight boring once it is more than 8hrs sad
