dekung: I wonder why churches especially find it so difficult to give back to the same people they take from. Grace so amazing foundation printed and distributed millions of copies of WORD FOR TODAY free of charge. How come pastor chris and co find it difficult to do the same thing. Some of us were able to read the new testament bible as children because Gideons international made them available to us free of charge. Christianity in Nigeria is strictly for making money, nothing else. The word Modesty has lost its meaning as far as these pastors are concerned. ROR is distributed free of charge to people; people are never asked to buy it. Pls get your facts right before condemning these churches. |

yd849ja: Matt 8:3, And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4. See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them. Here you can see Jesus telling the man to do as Moses commanded that includes tithe and tithe should be paid to the Lord not to help anyone in need. It is sacrosanct. Please stop your heresy and do as the Lord God commands. Joagbaje: We must do all. That's the balance that Jesus was passing accros
Luke 11:42 42 "But woe to you Pharisees! For though you are careful to tithe even the smallest part of your income, you completely forget about justice and the love of God. You should tithe, yes, but you should not leave these other things undone.
They were still living under the law of Moses at this point in time, why are u people so dumb to understand this. Even Jesus mentioned it in Matt 8:3 that ", give gift that Moses commanded". This shows they were still under the law of Moses at this point becos He (Jesus) had not not been crucified. New testament started after the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus. |

Again, the new testaments started after the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus, while Jesus was physically in this world He was teaching them as those living under the law. There is need to understand this. This is quite evident in "the Lord's prayer" which Jesus taught His disciples. The Lord's prayer says ", Thy kingdom come" which shows His kingdom has not yet come at the time cos He has not been crucified yet. The Lord's prayer also did not end with "in Jesus name". Again this is becos He had not died and risen. The people of that time were not praying in the name of Jesus becos they were still living under the Law. However everything changed after the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus.
Blessing comes with giving to the poor and for the work of the kingdom, but people should not be scared into paying money every Sunday by telling them they will not be blessed if they dont tithe/pay offering weekly. There are many who dont tithe and are mightily blessed cos they give to the needy and for the work of the kingdom, and they do it willingly from their hearts. For God loves a cheerful giver. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Tithes, Offerings And First Fruits - Do They Apply To Us As Christians? by FXKing2012(op): 10:43pm On Feb 06, 2012 |
xcolanto: Been stumbling across this topic and felt the need to share my humble opinion, some say where did jesus say give tithes and first fruits in the bible, while I cannot dig such scriptures if ineed there are any, I would like to place the emphasis more on what has been practised over the years as regarding first fruits. Now great men that applied this principle of giving their first fruit to God lived and enjoyed life to the fullest, one of such men is king solomon, that gave his first fruit in terms of offerings and burnt offerings as observed in his time to glorify God and we all are familiar with his rewards as the wisest and richest king that ever lived and would live, This was also evident in the story and movie of king solomons mines. Also we have abraham who was willing to lay down his son (first fruit) to God as an offering but God saw his heart and let him keep his son. Offcourse till today his name still exists in the lips of men as he was crowned to be the father of all nations. To sum it all up, we have the alpha and omega (God the father) who laid down his son jesus (first fruit) that we may be saved from death (the soul) and given enternal life to all who believe in him. And today we can see the glory of God (his mercies to be precise) in all that we do. Hence its not mainly about where its written or not but observing and studying the word of God to apply the principles that cannot be compromised as long as they are applied with faith in God. Now some of the comments here are sickening because those that don't have strong faith and believe but are willing or do practise first fruit giving would begin to re-consider observing it! Shame You mentioned Solomon and Abraham, FYI we are not under the same dispensation as them. Jesus did not die for them and they were not under grace like we are today. Abraham and Solomon made animal sacrifices to God which God accepted, why dont we do the same today just like they did. Giving is voluntary and from the heart to the poor and for the work of the kingdom, not out of necessity or fear on a weekly basis like many want us to believe. And not paying tithe does not mean the person will not prosper like some like to preach. There are many who dont pay tithes and they are blessed on a daily basis. Give and it shall be given unto you is the rule. |

claremont: Is Jesus the way because he said he is the way?
Did other preachers (Mohammed, Buddha e.t.c) not also say they are the way?
Is Jesus the way because he supposedly died and resurrected on the third day?
During the time of Jesus's apparent resurrection, did the Bible not say that resurrection was commonplace at that time, so why is the resurrection of Jesus so special?
Is hell large enough to contain over 5 Billion non-Christians?
What does it say about a god that allows 5 billion people to burn in hell, is such a god not evil?
Your words lack every form of wisdom and I pray God gives you wisdom from above to understand. Where did u see it that ressurection was commonplace during the time of Jesus? How many people/prophets were born of a virgin? How many rose from the dead (not were risen, but rose)? Bible says hell was greatly increased (and that is obviously to accommodate as many who choose to go there) People going to hell says nothing about God becos it was their choice. Hell and heaven is a choice and I pray you choose wisely. Jesus loves you and the earlier you give ur life to Him the better for you. |

Pastor AIO: I don't see how the splintering of Boko Haram is a good thing for anybody. At least before we had them under one umbrella. Now we're gonna have small guerrilla like factions acting independently, and slowly the whole thing will become more chaotic until nigeria becomes like afghanistan or somalia where each street is controlled by a different warlord. If you chop off one head, then like a hydra many more will pop up to take its place. It shows there is division and infighting within the group. A kingdom divided against itself can not stand. The other faction will be more liberal and wiling to negotiate, thereby undermining the other radical sect and perhaps even giving them up. PA1982: I have the nerve to say the Bishop's curse is worth nothing, that the reported news is completely independant of of the man's utterances. Omo_Tier1: It is obvious you still allow your flesh to rule over you! Why do you allow the paying of tithes, First Fruits and Offerings bother you at all? Did the bible ever say those who do such will end up in the lake of fire? Or will those who choose to do so end up sinning against God? If the answer is No, so why not leave it to those who choose to do it?
It is folks like you who can not open their mouth to preach Jesus the Christ and His saving power to others, yet would come into forums and start topics that you are Spiritually unlearned about!
May God through His Holy Spirit open your eyes of understanding! But let me tell you this: If in 2012 you experience a dryness like you never did in your life, know it is for the purpose of what you did here! And did the Bible say those who dont pay will not see increase in their lives? So why hammer on it that those who dont pay tithes and offerings will not see increase in their lives. Why are you deceiving people? If anyone does not pay tithe, leave the person alone and dont condemn the person to a life of poverty simply becos he didnt pay his tithe. Giving to the poor and for the work of the kingdom brings increase into your life, and this is done willingly from the heart, not becos you were scared into doing it every Sunday which is not even in the Bible. |

God is wiser than men.He asked for only ten percent of what He has given to you. Rev 21:27 says nothing about tithes, so why quote it? And what makes you think God does not bless those who dont tithe? The rule is when you give you will receive in multiples, and giving should be to the poor, less privileged and for the work of the kingdom. It was never made a necessity and I hate the idea of pastors saying you will not be blessed if you dont tithe as if it is in the Bible. Giving should be voluntary and from your heart, that way you will be greatly blessed. |

@ poster Tithe paying has to do with obeying God's injunction, if you claim to be really a born-again, then your heart desire should be to please the Lord and obey his commandments and not care about those fattening themselves with the tithes and offering, whatever they do is between them and God ( leave the judgement to Him). I obey God's injunction which applies to me as someone who lives under grace and not under the law. The History of Tithe in the Bible can be traced to Abram's meeting with the Angel of the Lord- remember him? One after the order of Mel, Maybe this should open your eyes abit that tithing is not something of the flesh! It has a huge spiritual dimension! And have you asked yourself why God would require sacrifices from Abel, Noah, Solomon, Abraham, etc? First fruits has nothing to do with the old testaments! By which spirit do you study your bible? It is so silly and spiritually immature for people to say they are New testament Christians!
@issues of Tithes, Offerings, First Fruits. I do them all and I receive my rewards 'cos I am a Man of Faith! If the Spirit of God truly dwells in you, surely He will teach you these kingdom principles from God's Word and you will not need any man to force you to do them because when you do in faith, you get your reward and it just become a life style for you!
A man who can not give His first fruits, Tithe or Offerings, such a man is never a giver to the core! ugosly: The poster is the type that's always trying to condescend and rationalize the things of the spirit to mere intellectualism, which I think is spiritual ignorance of the highest order in Christainity. GOD'S WORD® Translation (©1995) "Don't ever think that I came to set aside Moses' Teachings or the Prophets. I didn't come to set them aside but to make them come true. [/b]
Or are you now saying you are wiser than Christ Himself? Better go and read your bible very well. Remember God's warning in Revelation 22 verses 18 and 19. DO not make yourself a tool for the devil to deceive many. This goes to show your level of Bible knowledge. Now let me enlighten you: Jesus came to fulfill the scripture/prophesy. There are prophesies in the Book of Kings (1Kings, 2Kings, etc) about the coming of Jesus and how He will safe His people from destruction as well as His death and resurrection. There were prophesies about the things He will do while in the world and the things that will happen to Him. Those were the prophesies Jesus came to fulfill. Now where does Jesus mention anything about tithes or offerings all thru His sojourn here on earth. Even apostle Paul never solicited for money from any of the churches he founded. Despite his very busy schedule (trekking from city to city establishing churches), he still had a day job as a tent maker which goes to tell me any pastor without a day job is wrong in that respect - that does not mean the pastor is fake o. I understand if people find it hard to swallow this cos they (including myself) have been indoctrinated/brain-washed for so long that it is so hard to reason outside what you've been taught all your life. Pls put sentiments apart and base your points on what is in the Bible. |
