adycatus: Phew! So sorry about the denial. This is a recurring theme. Reapply but try Lagos this time around. Are you pregnant? If you're not and there is no hurry maybe you should give it some time before applying. All the best dear Has anyone gotten visa for childbirth in Abuja in recent times? Almost everyone I know who has applied in Abuja has been refused and it also seems like they now routinely ask women (single or married) if they intend to give birth in the US. My colleague (single young lady) was asked if she had any intention to use the visa for childbirth and she replied in the negative. This means even if she gets pregnant in the next two years she can't use that visa for childbirth. My friends husband was asked if his wife was pregnant and if they had intention to give birth in the US... They are newly married...His wife already had a visa and had just renewed via Dropbox. He told them no to both questions and was given the visa. Meanwhile the wife is pregnant and intends to have the baby in the US o. I sha warned them o... Husband shouldnot have lied at all but he was scared because he had been denied before. All of these happened in Abuja. 1 Like |

chigrad: 1. I honestly think it is not too early to apply in April. I missed a very important official meeting in the US last year because I did not renew (via dropbox) on time (My visa was to expire in November and I applied late September. My passport was returned early October with a note to appear for a face to face interview! I had to book appointment for the interview and the closest available date was in November- a day to my travel date!) 2. No it is not! you can choose to appear for a face to face interview. I wish I had sef 3. That depends on you. Either way is fine 4. Will you be travelling with the child? if Yes, then you should state it as it is the truth. |

Amy20: Someone just told me a story today. Her friend had a child in the US and her host has been using the childs SSN for tax refunds. She had no idea whatsoever but her husband was aware and was even getting a cut sef. Fast forward to second missionary journey, the CBP at LAX POE brought up the matter and she was sent back to Nigeria. I don't know what happened afterwards as na there the gist end. So please report the matter o before it affects you 3 Likes |

MyEkwueme: I had too many issues with AA. It was NOT a birthing trip so I don't know about adding infant tickets and all but on this thread we've had a lot of complaints about BA/AA customer service. This is my personal experience with AA. 1. My first issue with them was luggage allowance. BA allows 2 x 23kg bags but AA's Policy is 1 ×23kg and you pay for any extra bags. I wasn't directly affected because I'm not a big shopper and I was there for a conference so I had only one but a colleague of mine had to pay for her extra bag... She tried to explain that she bough BA ticket and the baggage allowance for BA is 2 bags but it fell on deaf ears. 2. They were NOT organised at all. The seating arrangement was terrible. A woman had to beg me to change seats with her as they put her 2 year old like 10rows behind her! 3. The plane was very uncomfortable and I honestly do not remember if there was in-flight entertainment... I know for certain there there was no "personal" in-flight entertainment I.e. your own screen and headphones. 4. I don't even remember if we were given anything to eat sef 5. The cabin crew were outright rude! This was a flight from Philadelphia to London Overall, it was a terrible experience and I am a very "easy to please" kind of person Note that this was in 2015 and I have only flown them once! The first leg of the journey (London to Phil) was BA. It is possible that it was just that flight that was bad or that they are better now. 3 Likes |

Zeemin3: But we don't know where the money is coming from na... How can we advise on what you should say? On a more serious note, if you earn 200k and your extra income aka "side hustle" gives you 1m a month then your monthly income is 1.2m. So if asked how much your monthly income is you can say "it's 1.2M, I earn 200k from my place of work and 1m from my side hustle, investments or inheritance from my billionaire father...hehe (whatever it is)". If the money is not yours and is just lodged in your account for visa purposes (which is what the VO will most likely suspect) then I don't have any advise for you All the best. 3 Likes |

vikturaikay: Your wife will have to apply for a "B" Non Immigrant Visa. She will need to prove to the VO that 1. She has no immigrant intent 2. She has identified 2. She can afford to pay all medical bills incurred. I did a quick check on your profile and I see you are in the US on a student visa (F1). The first question is, did you declare you were married at the time you applied for your visa? 2. If you did, why doesn't she just apply for F2 (dependent)visa 3. Since you are studying (and living) in the U.S. what are her ties to Nigeria? (She will need to prepare to explain this to the VO) 4. As a student, can you prove that you can afford the cost of child birth in the US? You both need to think on these things. My advise? Since you are in Cleveland (told you I checked your profile!) You can start by finding hospitals and doctors (gynaecologists) near you (Google is your best friend) then pick up your phone and call them... ask for the cost for a cash paying (uninsured) patient. Begin email correspondence with your doctor of choice, Give your wife all the details and tell her to read part 1 to part 6 of this thread on Nairaland. Ensure you have enough funds for the trip and evidence of ties to Nigeria (I don't know how she's going to prove it but na una know) Hope for the best! 15 Likes |

Silver2010: This is from the USCIS Website "...If you want to extend your stay in the United States, you must file a request with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on the Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status before your authorized stay expires....We recommend that you apply to extend your stay at least 45 days before your authorized stay expires..." For more information go to https://www.uscis.gov/visit-united-states/extend-your-stay I don't know if using an "immigration" lawyer will impact on the application but it may be worth looking into. (I have no idea how they work and have no recommendations... it's just a thought) 1 Like |

MyEkwueme: I must warn you though... When booking BA please make sure all your flights are BA. BA has an agreement with American Airlines (AA)and sometimes the flights to or from the US will be via AA. My DH and I have had the misfortune of flying with AA from Philadelphia to London ( we purchased BA tickets) and it was a terrible experience. So when booking your flights please ensure that it is BA all the way. I have learnt my lesson and I always check now! 1 Like |

MyEkwueme: It depends on Cost, Travel time, ease of adding LO to ticket and Personal preference. We have had great reviews on Qatar here and Mixed reviews on BA. Qatar has very strict rules about flying pregnant women and you have to abide by the rules to avoid being turned back (someone recently posted that she wasn't allowed to board). BA, is not as strict. Travelling from Europe to the US is way shorter than travelling from the middle East. The flight from Doha to US is longer than the one from London.e.g. Doha to JFK (New York) is about 14 hours but London to JFK is about 8 hours. Adding LO to your ticket is way easier and cheaper with Qatar... People have added their LOs with less than $100 on Qatar but I don't know anyone who has added their LO with less than $300 on BA (and indeed any European airline) Also, depending on the ticket you Get, you may be eligible for free hotel stay at Doha. Although sometimes this is dicey. My mum was eligible for hotel but was not given when she got to Doha (she said most Nigerians on her flight were not given the free hotel accommodation)... My husband was given when he travelled with Qatar (a week after my mum) and it was the same class of ticket as my mum's. Personally, I never travel to the US via the Middle East. I ALWAYS travel through the UK amd book the longest layover possible so I can go into London as it is second home to me. When I had my baby i went with Virgin, went into London, ate, slept, bathed and continued my journey (both legs). If you do have a UK visa you should consider breaking your journey as it is very refreshing especially if you have family or friends living in LONDON (I capitalised London because unless you want to spend a few days, it doesn't make sense making your way out of London to other parts of the UK). So, the choice lies with you! With all the advantages Qatar offers, I will still fly BA if I'm going to the US. 4 Likes |

Silver2010: This is a very tough one! Once you overstay by less than 180 days, your visa will be cancelled and it will be very very very difficult (not impossible) getting another visa to the U.S. If its more than 180 days you will be banned for 3 years and you get a 10 year ban if you overstay by 365 days or more. In my (very limited and inexperienced) opinion you have four options 1. Come back to Nigeria and have the baby 2. Do Nothing, Overstay and bear the consequences 3. File for an extension (it is advisable to file for extension 45 days before your authorised stay expires. Note that processing time takes 3-6months AND there is no guarantee that you'd get it) 4. Get the baby out at 38 weeks, get baby's documents and leave in 3 weeks. You can do this by a)Fasting and Praying for the baby to come out early b) being proactive and scheduling an induction or elective CS at 38 weeks. It is definitely a tough one For now, relax and take care of yourself and the LO 16 Likes |

Xibabe: I understand jare... Money has a tendency to "flow" and not remain stagnant...lol. I think it depends on how soon you want to reapply...and when you are due. You do need to show that the funds are readily available to you when you are travelling so if your due date is still far, I think you can re-fix the funds if you still have up to six months or maybe change some to dollars and put in a dormaccount if you have one. All the best. |

Xibabe: So sorry about your denial. This really should have been in the birthing thread as many have had the same experience. I also gave birth in the US in 2016 and was called for "post-Dropbox" interview in Abuja. The visa was approved after a gruelling questioning session and I think my saving grace was that I wasn't pregnant and I was going for a conference. Someone in the birthing thread, was invited for post Dropbox interview and was refused twice in Abuja but got approved in Lagos the third time so you can try again. My advise is that you should apply again and take advantage of the space where you are asked "why you were denied" to clearly explain the funds in your account and state that you paid your previous bills in full. I wish you all the best 1 Like |

I asked the UK Border officer that stamped me in (I had a valid UK visa) if he would have let me in without a valid visa and he said that if you have a valid ticket to the US,Canada or Australia you can enter the UK at the discretion of the Border Officer. Oh dear omodadi2 So sorry about your refusal. Abuja folks are NOT smiling o. Please has anyone here successfully gotten visa for childbirth in Abuja in recent times? My visa was approved in Abuja last month but I'm almost certain I may have been denied if I was pregnant because the VO all but explicitly told me I can't use this visa for birthing. BornAgainMay: Ok, to answer your original question On proving your ties to Nigeria- it is totally left to you! You know what ties you to Nigeria and no one can help you with that as we do not know you. Being an only son is definitely not a tie but if you think it will help you, feel free to tell the VO during the interview. On the probability of getting the visa- again, no one can tell you that. Read through the thread, evaluate yourself, go for your interview and let us know how it goes QED 1 Like 1 Share |

Slim86: No, I do not think you need a fit to fly that early. For majority of airlines the fit to fly is required from 28 weeks of pregnancy. I just checked BA,Turkish, Etihad, Emirates... all said you can travel without a report up to your 28th week. Qatar airways says you do not have to come with a doctors certificate (aka fit to fly) but it is recommended to prevent delays at the airport. I had to travel a lot (locally and internationally) during my pregnancy and was hardly asked for a fit to fly. The only time I got asked for a fit to fly was a local Dana air flight as I was going into the plane sef and I was 30 weeks gone at the time. To be double sure, Please check with your preferred airline. My advise is- if you are one of those women who have huge pregnancies (i.e. you are 15weeks but looks like you are giving birth tomorrow ), then you may need the doctors letter to show the gestational age. If your belle no comot too much- i honestly do not think you need one. Again, check with your preferred airline. All the best 3 Likes |

Maybe I've read and watched too many crime related programmes. What if your friend turns out to be a psycho? If I were You, I'd definitely book (and intend to stay in) a hotel room and possibly save money for my ticket... so I'm not at anyone's mercy... But that's Me! And yes, the VO would like to know how you know this "friend"... and why he is paying so much for you to come see his country. You should be able to answer that question convincingly. Bubbles123: Hello Bubbles123 There has been an increase in the number of follow up interviews especially for those who have given birth in the US. Zoemummy (check page 343 of this thread) was called for follow up but hers was for finger printing if I remember correctly. She gave a detailed checklist of documents to take along with you for the interview. I also was called for a follow up interview and my detailed transcript is on page 369... I'm not pregnant now though. Check LI's detailed transcript(page 400) too. It's not exactly your case but it should be helpful. All the best. Heavily pregnant women have been turned back from POE because they did not declare their intention... she has declared her intention AND has shown proof that she can afford it. Someone on the birthing thread here on NL with a valid visa had to apply for visa to declare her intention to give birth in the US. jayfierce madam met a good VO 3 Likes |
