You just said it that the CBP's may not always stamp you in for 6 months and what if they refused her entry due to number of months remaining on the visa? Or is it not possible...

That does not mean it is illegal and wrong which was your conclusion in the first instance.

I don't think I'm harsh... it's illegal to stay on an expired visa (Even though she's hoping it will be extended at POE) what if it was not extended?
I've renewed 2-3 visas of my colleague (Who visited twice and did not stayed in U.S for more than 12 days) before they expired and they were called for interview so from my own little experience I think it's advisable to wait till after expiration.

I have put up a link to debunk that.

It really is NOT illegal to stay on an expired visa as long as you are within the time stamped at the POE. What is illegal is if you stay beyond the time stamped at POE even with a VALID VISA.

As for renewal... A lot of people I know have renewed before expiration and have gotten their visas without much ado. For instance, if I have a conference to attend every August and my visa expires in August, I will begin renewal in June or July to account for any unexpected delays.

pls can one travel to the US in Oct with a visa that will expire in Nov and stay till Jan? Will there b an issue?

Yes you can.

I just got this from the US govts official website

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/frequently-asked-questions/about-basics.html

I must warn you that it is a bit risky because CBPs don't always stamp you in for 6months

The reason you asked is because you know it's illegal and wrong but you want validation from someone here. You should know that it's risky traveling on a visa with less than 2 months validity and still want to stay till january... you self think am now.
My advice is that you should wait till your visa expire and re-apply through dropbox, if you re-apply before expiration of your visa, you will be called for interview.
Have a nice day.

Haba...

Uncle Seye...I think you were a little harsh on her. It is NOT illegal but it is risky. Many have done it and renewed their visas without issues.

I also do not agree that if one applies before expiration one will be called for interview. There are many reasons why people renew before time and it is usually not an issue.

Most likely fake news. Oyinbo people don't do these sorts of things in my experience.how would they obtain consent at that time when you haven't committed a crime and your phone was not unlocked? What reason did they give for going through his phone?

Abeg...takes this with a bag of salt...

Whilst i cannot confirm the veracity of the post... I know for certain that US CBP officers can go through your phones... na you go even help them unlock the phone sef. They will invade your very "privacy" and you won't be able to do anything about it.

So it is (very) possible for their Canadian counterparts to go through phones.
Now whether the person was deported for the reason quoted is another matter.

Please please

This back and forth is totally unnecessary. It has only suceeded in derailing the thread. The purpose of this thread is to provide information and share our experiences about US Visit Visa.

The last six (or more) pages has clearly contravened Nairaland rule No 1

"Please post all threads in the right section, and don't derail threads by posting off topic".

If Twoods is the topic can we open another thread for the discussion? @Justwise, as moderator, can I crave your indulgence to remove any posts on this matter going forward as it has no bearing with "US Visit Visas" and is derailing the thread?

Let us all please refocus and keep the discussion to "US Visit Visas"

Thank You!

Happened to me and nearly caused a delay on my application cuz we didn't know what to do/expect. My child was a little short on a developmental milestone but the paediatrician advised us on what to do to catch up, it wasn't a major concern for medical inadmissibility. We passed medical the following day paediatrician's report was submitted.

In your case you can vid record him when he is talking at home or among friends and show it to the doctor. Doctors are familiar with situations like this. Fear not!

Thank you so much.

Did you have to use their recommended paediatrician or were you given the liberty to choose yours?

In the spirit of giving back, I'll attempt to narrate what goes on during medicals at IOM Abuja
I walked into the hospital at 8.10 am and I was out by 10.30am.

The end.

I did not have a very good experience at the same IOM today

Walked in at 8am with my husband and 18month old toddler and was there till 1pm. They had network challenges and kept us waiting for a long while.

I was at the verge of asking to be rescheduled or even refunded because it was so annoying...and I am usually a very very patient person.

We did not get a chance to verify our information on the screen as you described but went straight to the nurses. This was already at 11am and both my boys were very cranky.

By the time we got to the doctors office at 12:30pm my usually very good toddler was inconsolable. Doctor now asked if he could speak some words and said I may have to bring him on another day for him to be certain the boy can talk. I was quite livid! Every child is different and even children who are chatter boxes at home may decide to keep mute in unfamiliar settings.

I told him i would not be bringing my child again and they can tick whatever. If my application is refused because my 18month old cannot say a few words then so be it!

That being said, they were quite professional and the nurses were kind and super helpful.

I guess today was an amomaly

I don't know if I'm just unlucky today...

We've been at IOM since 8am and still haven't been attended to. I chose IOM because I felt it would be better organised and less stressful than a normal hospital but I guess I was wrong. It's especially frustrating when you are with a cranky toddler

Thanks for response.

As painful as it is, PCC is ₦10k flat without receipt. They say it's official price, I say it's organised crime.

Chei!

I was also quoted 10k... just wanted to know if it could be cheaper. Lol.

Meanwhile have you done PCC? How much did you pay?

Eh,

Affordable is a relative term and the US is very big.

The reason this thread exists is to provide the very answers you seek...
So, Yes we do know a lot of affordable hospitals in the US and they have been discussed extensively here but it is very important that you dig out the answers yourself.

US Embassy Chief of Consular Section, Ms. Carol Cox, in an interview with select journalists in Abuja, yesterday disclosed that it would cost at least $60,000 to have a baby in the US.

Dear expectingmum,

Please you only need to ask your question once. You don't need to quote so many people just to ask the same question. It's called spamming!

To answer your question, the interview you quoted was from five years ago (2013) and many women, including Me, have successfully obtained visas and birthed with far less than $60,000.

@ the gurus in the house. Please I need information on the right thing to do. I have been following the thread and already preparing for IELTS, WHILE AT it I have decided to apply for ECA.
I am a Pharmacist and I have an M.SC. Initially I thought to have my masters evaluated because the institution I graduated from is closer to my place of residence unlike my B,PHARM where I would have to travel down to the institution to request for transcript. Travelling at the moment is currently not possible.
My major challenge now is that I intend to apply using my experience as a Pharmacist.
Should I go ahead and evaluate my M.Sc, then apply stating my occupation as Pharmacist or should I just evaluate my B. Pharm.
I look forward to positive responses.
Thanks
Note the M.Sc is still pharmacy related.

Do you have any experience outside Pharmacy?

If you want to claim points as a hospital or community pharmacist then you may have to evaluate your credentials with PEBC. If you worked as a medical rep or as an industrial pharmacist then your MSc is fine.

I am yet to see any Pharmacist who did NOT evaluate their B.Pharm, used Pharmacy as primary NOC and got PR. it will be interesting to see how it goes.

I had a 7.5 (my lowest score wink). So the lesson in all this is never be too confident that you don't practice.

And with these points of mine, I hope I have been able to convince and not confuse you that practice leads to perfection, thank you.

Hehehe@ Practice leads to perfection...

Na 9 you want score?

I was expecting your story to go

"I was over confident, failed to practice and scored 6 in writing"

For EE, perfection in writing is 7.5 o... you didn't practice and you attained perfection in one sitting... kudos! smiley

On a serious note,
you brought up another very valid point here. Many of us are so used to typing that we may have forgotten how to hold a pen and write on paper. If you belong to that category, please practice writing on paper before the exam.

I don't know about the Indians, but we're having a serious grammar challenge in Nigeria. It's now proving difficult to find articulate newspaper articles. Everybody now knows how to phoonè but basic rules of grammar have been lost.

I totally agree with you there.

Poor writing is now mainstream!

I find it very disturbing that our newspapers are riddled with grammatical errors. It used to be that if you wanted to improve your grammar and expand your vocabulary, you were told to read newspapers voraciously. Today, I really would not advise anyone to do that... The blogs are another matter entirely.

It's not only in Nigeria....poor writing is almost a global problem. I have seen a lot of errors on UK's dailymail (online) news and it makes me wonder where all the editors are.

For IELTS, I think the writing part is quite subjective and those who score 6.5 could very well have scored 7 (and vice versa smiley )... hence it is very important to read, digest and understand the marking scheme so that you can know what is required and ace the test.

Generally, I think it is important to make a conscious effort to write things in full. Instant messaging has encouraged us to write in "shorthand" and this has contributed immensely to our poor writing (and spelling)skills today. I hardly ever write in short hand even when chatting with friends and family...it does take some getting used to!

I wish everyone struggling with IELTS the very best!
