Hello @shrekandfiona Did you have to get your passport back from dhl before the post-drop box interview? Please you mentioned that you had y[img][/img]our interview on the 1st of August and your passport was returned on the 2nd. Did you ask the VO to fast track? Did you have your interview in Abuja or Lagos? Thanks Mehn, going through your postsssss was very enlightening...Lol |

ugoguchy: Hi, was your passport returned to you? I was also asked to book a follow-up interview. My passport was returned to me and my expired visa was stamped "cancelled without prejudice". I got my visa for a conference and used it for the purpose... travelled to give birth more than a year later. I guess they just want to make sure we paid our bills.... Please see zoemummy's post for her own post drop box interview Please lets know how your interview goes. |

Dear AbujaNIV and LagosNIV Thanks for patiently answering our many queries. Please is it possible to get one's approved visa faster than the stipulated three days? I have a meeting to attend in the US on the 5th of November. I applied to renew my visa via dropbox but was sent a mail (14days later) to collect my passport back from dhl and schedule an appointment (221g). Unfortunately, the closest available date is November 2. I contacted the call centre and was told that 221g applicants are not eligible to request for an expedited date. If I attend the interview as scheduled on the 2nd and the visa is granted can I get my passport back the same day? |

kaakaa: I don't know if this is exactly true. I got my visa Sept 2015 for a conference. Went for the conference in October 2015 and stayed for just 5days. Got pregnant March 2016, travelled Oct 2016 to give birth. Sent notifications of intent AND declared at POE. Applied for renewal as I need to attend a meeting in the US but was called for follow up interview. Na where I dey now be that. Point is, no one can predict who they will call and who they won't 4 Likes |

zoemummy: Thanks so much for this very very informative post. Please was your passport returned to you before the interview? I applied for dropbox two weeks ago and got a mail yesterday asking me to pick up my passport and schedule an appointment. I will get my passport from dhl tomorrow. I asked about 4 friends who had been interviewed after dropbox and none of them had to pick up their passports before the interview. |

cutelass: Nah... it wasn't that cold. Some days were cold (not "winter" cold- a warm sweater should suffice), and some days were quite sunny. Also saw from your post, you got to hospital at about 1am and gave birth 17 hrs later...how long after delivery were you discharged and did you pay any extra? My reason for asking being that the bill sent by Dr M's assistant to me few days ago indicated 1 day for VD...don't know how that is calculated. Yes! It's now one day for VD. I did give birth 17hours later... however, it was still within the same day. In addition, the baby is usually "monitored" for 24hours... so I did not need to pay extra. I gave birth at about 6pm and was discharged the next day.
Yes, I got a free stroller. 2 Likes |

urblackpearl:Ok.. so different strokes for different people. First things first... please make a list. It is very important so you do not forget anything. 1. Documents Very important... fit to fly, medical test results, employment letter (if applicable), correspondence with US doctors, receipts of payment where applicable, bank statements etc sometimes they ask and other times they don't. It's better to be safe than sorry 2. Food Personally, I only took ijebu garri and powdered milk (difficult to find in the US) I was not ready for any unnecessary delays... 3. Baby stuff My missionary journey was end of last year when dollar was hard to come by (no pta from bank or traveled... at a point sef even bdc malams didn't have dollars)... so I reckoned it was wiser to spend in naira as much as possible. I bought basic baby things in Nigeria o... baby soap, Vaseline, cream (I use shea butter), few newborn clothes and other basics 4. Mummy stuff Your personal effects.
I entered through LA... look through my previous posts for my POE experience.
I had $70 and a few pounds cash on me (yes! $70) but had enough money in my dollar and UK bank accounts 3 Likes |

On the issue of Nigerian banks and US citizenship... It just occurred to me that the reason our banks may not want the complication of a US citizen's (baby) account is the Foreign Account Tax Compliant Act (FATCA).. It is an interesting act that kind of compels foreign financial institutions (FFI) to provide the IRS with information on US citizens for tax purposes or risk being slammed a 30% withholding tax on all US sourced income. Because of this "strict" penalty many banks are simply refusing to do business with Americans to save themselves the administrative headache of reporting the accounts. CBN sent out a circular in January 2015 advising our financial institutions to comply with FATCA. So, yes, even your baby's bank account has to be reported to IRS. For instance a six month old american citizen in Canada got a letter from the bank her parents opened an account for her that she needs to comply with fatca...lol. See the following links for more info http://www.myfinancialintelligence.com/opinion/fatca-why-financial-institutions-nigeria-should-care https://www.quora.com/What-is-FATCA-Foreign-Account-Tax-Compliance-Act-What-is-its-reasoning-and-need https://www.angloinfo.com/blogs/global/us-tax/2452-2/ http://ipolitics.ca/2016/04/14/so-now-the-cra-is-going-after-infants/ See the price our American children have to pay? Even if they grow up and remain in Nigeria they still have to pay tax somehow. Note: I am NEITHER a banker NOR lawyer. I have no idea or experience how the banking sector works. 3 Likes |

VictoriaRi: You are welcome. Oh you can actually reapply immediately. A friend of mine did that (different circumstances though). She was going for a conference sponsored by her office and was initially denied. She re-applied immediately and explained her situation in the ds160. She was granted. So, yes I think you can reapply and state your case clearly in the DS160 All the best |

VictoriaRi: Phew! So sorry about the refusal. You do have an interesting profile... funny enough, that's where the problem lies. It's great that you work for yourself and you are obviously doing well on your own. However, you work in marketing and advertising... it does mean that you can work remotely which is a red flag... think the VO was probably wondering what exactly would be your motivation to come back. Many people go to the US on a B visa, get married and then adjust status... so the VO will have to be convinced that you do not have any INTENT TO IMMIGRATE. see these posts from quora. https://www.quora.com/Can-I-get-married-in-US-ON-A-B1-tourist-visa-and-later-convert-to-dependant-visa https://www.quora.com/Is-getting-married-to-a-US-citizen-while-in-the-US-with-a-tourist-visa-legal-And-does-this-automatically-make-one-a-citizen So, because it is a big possibility to get to the US and "change your mind" the onus lies on you to convince the VO otherwise. My advise? a. Can your boyfriend come and visit you in Nigeria? Have you been dating for long? b. You can apply again (after he visits) and make a strong case in your form when explaining why you were refused. All the best |

Austine2020: Sometimes, it is more convenient and cheaper (on the long run) to rent a car and drive especially in parts of America where public transportation is virtually nonexistent. My cousin stayed with family and almost regretted it afterwards. She was paying as high as $200 on taxi just to get to the closest mall or something. 2 Likes |

Family / Re: Why Women Hide Money From Their Husbands! by Fyorgyn: 2:46pm On Mar 04, 2017 |
Interesting but shallow article. I am of the opinion that the writer should have explored other reasons women "hide" money. There is an age-old saying that "Every (good) woman should have a "secret stash" her husband knows nothing about. Men and women are fundamentally different. Many men, bless their hearts, live for the moment... they believe if you have it, spend it! They are risk takers who can spend their last dime without thinking twice. A wise woman keeps resources aside because one day, the family business might need a cash boost, a job might be lost, the car engine might knock etc Another reason women keep money is to have an "escape" fund. You don't pray to have a divorce or a bad marriage but many have used their "secret stash" to flee abusive marriages. Women keeping secret stash is not peculiar to Nigeria alone. It's a really old "tradition" that has passed from generation to generation of women the world over. For instance, in this usnews article, the writer says her grandmother advised her to have one. http://money.usnews.com/money/blogs/alpha-consumer/2008/03/19/should-women-keep-a-secret-money-stash. Almost every woman I know keeps a secret stash with very good intentions. I used to have secret stashes but recently I realized it wasn't really fair to my husband who is very open with me about his financies. I still keep money but it's not really secret. He doesn't ask me about it and he has no idea how much I keep aside. He just knows it's for contingencies. We have come to that understanding. 4 Likes |

abujaniv: Wow LEX4352... This is one weighty sentence. The words "NEVER APPLY" struck me. A quick search shows your full personal details here on nairaland. Now, even if you want to go visit genuinely or even to study sef, you have shot yourself in the foot. You've been marked mehn!!!! I don't condone illegality but one should learn to, as much as possible, avoid putting personal details on forums like this. Apart from making yourself an easy target for scammers, your comments can inadvertently put you in trouble, make you lose out on jobs, opportunities and even visas! |

I did write a notification of intent but I don't think it is absolutely necessary especially as you've used the visa for its intended purpose. 1 Like |

freshdad: I'm a very frequent traveller and a very cheapskate. As thrifty as I am I don't know if I'd ever ever ever fly air maroc again. I bought a one way ticket from London to Lagos and it was the worst journey I have ever embarked on. To drop luggage at Heathrow was wahala... they were not organised at all. The plane from London was like the ones Aero use for local flight... I cannot even remember if we were given anything to eat and there was no in-flight entertainment. When we got to Casablanca walahi it was like we were rushing for molue...very disorganized and all. I don't know if you want to subject your wife and baby to the stress of air maroc. Quite frankly, you get what you pay for. It didn't pain me too much sha because it was a very very cheap ticket considering I was buying one way. 2 Likes |
