why not just sell the planes, instead of abandoning them in the airport fields. they could easly had made 30-50 million USD. or atleast recycle them in a junk yard SMH

In my opinion nigeria’s journalism is pretty fair, its not great but not bad. But there are some idiotic journalist out there who will rather makeup or spin the news just to make a name for there selves or group. And also Nigeria’s journalism don’t really look to politically bias in my opinion compared to American news networks.

If you look back about 20 years ago, you will probably get the same news from the UN. I believe in building for the future but now it all comes down to what one means when one speaks of building for the future. You and I know that Dubai is NOT BUILT to cater to needs of the average or low class people in the world. It is built to accommodate the rich ( indigenes are promised life of the rich but low class people from other parts of the world will not necessarily enjoy the same considering the place is too expensive for the average man).

Same with New York, L.A., Paris, etc. the rich are the ones that can afford to live there but it’s the poor and middle class that built it,, for money$$$$$. The majority of middle to lower class worker live on the outskirts and suburbs of major cities.

Its not just building skyscrapers at eko atlantic, lagos has other projects that is made for the development of poorer areas. developement as in building sewers, roads,  bridges, schools, etc. masterplans aren’t always about skyscrapers. These masterplans im talking about are ones like Lekki Master Plan, Ikeja Capital City masterplan, Surulere Model City, Yaba Model City, Alimosho Model City Plan, Badagry Master Plan and many more. There not all about build highrises or for building for the rich, those are for modernizing lagos for the future.

Okay, but you do realize that I was talking about infrastructure and development and not skyscrapers . Anyway, if you didn't know already, according to the U.N. and studies, Africa’s urban population is expected to double by 2030.  What I am saying is that we need to build for the future. Building for the present is what got Nigeria in this mess.  We need to be 2 steps ahead. Im not for building a giant mega city anambra or what every but im talking bout the building up the "big 10", Nigeria’s 10 populous cities. If more people are expected to arrive then why don’t you build before they come?

Developing BASIC is one thing but going MEGA is another. Dubai has been able to go MEGA because of OIL MONEY which funds it all. Does Nigeria, or even Lagos have access to such funds? Can we provide DUBAI considering the population burden we currently have to deal with? Take for instance Anambra state, does that state bring in enough for the government to FOCUS on dealing with anything MEGA at this point but the basics?

When i talk about Basic I mean stuff like 10-12 lane highways, sorry my lingo is a bit different .  anywayz, Lagos State estimates it would need around $50 billion to finance this model mega city project and as of right know its projected to pass that mark. Lagos is Raising the funds through taxes on businesses and the citizens among others. In addition, the funding from investors. eko atlantic is a private developement that wont cost the state a kobo, nothing. nigeria is an oil rich nation and even with the decline in oil prices lagos and some other state are still gaining revenue. I see the mega cities in lagos, port harcourt, and kaduna becoming true, or at least the best chance of becoming a reality. for anambra, IDK, i know nothing about the state or government so i wont respond to that.

I think when Nigerian governors and developers say they will turn there city into Dubai, they actually mean that there going to rapidly modernize and start a change in government toward developing basis infrastructure.

Dubai and the U.A.E. was basically a 3rd world country during 1990 and earlier. But because Dubai Started building roads and started developing, it started to catch the eye of international investors and the more Dubai developed, the more the investors came and built. Employing local people and paying money back to the Dubai government, in which they used to build Mega highways, Hospitals, bridges, tunnels, education, etc.

A Nigerian example is Lagos. Lagos started developing in the past 3 years and thus, in the past 3 years, caught the eye of many investors who are building projects such as Eko Atlantic. look at how much dubai changed in 13 years, i wonder how lagos and other nigerian cities are going to look like.

Nationals park, RFK stadium, the verizon center and many more sports venues are owned by the district of columbia or The DC Sports and Entertainment Commission, an independent agency of the District of Columbia government. the government also owns state runned college venues.

The stadium in abuja was built for the all africa games in 2003, and abuja does have a football club, but they dont play at the national stadium. the stadium wasnt filled up main becuase its the u-17, but the stadium was filled to the max when nigeria's national team played kenya and tunisia.

But if Nigeria does split up, what problems are solved? The same corrupt leaders we have now will be the same ones leading the individual nations. Instead of tribal feuds we'll have wars and arguments over land. Prices of goods will go up because of import and other taxes. Every nation will be weak so their will be "invasions" by countries like china and the U.S to exploit are resources (imperialism). Just because you'll be the majority of the country doesn't mean that development and happiness will come. Look the African countries with a large majority. They are still in a 3rd world state. Most African countries have been independent for 40 plus years now and they still look the same, in a 3rd world state. But what do they all have in common, they have bad leaders. So if you split nothing really gets solved.

In my opinion, I just want a leader that will get Nigeria going. I don’t care what tribe, religion, race, whatever, if he can do the job right I’ll will elect him__[b]ONE NIGERIA[/b]

like the report said, she was talking to the nigerian people not to result to violence when an election doesn't go in your favor. that there are elections flaws even in the U.S. and no one results to violence over there.

I support what your doing 100%. But I dont want to wake up on the 2nd and hear that protesters were hosed and arrested. Know your limits as well as your rights. Be responsible and do your research. Different communities and cities have different standards as to what is legal when protesting. You may have to obtain a "permit to protest" from your local city gov. If so, be sure to bring it with you on Demonstration Day.

You say Yugoslavia, Austria-Hungary and Russia were split apart because of world war I. Yugoslavia split apart in the 1990s, almost 80 years after World War I. There wasnt even a state called Yugoslavia until after World War I.

Yes, Yugoslavia didn't split until the 1990s, we all know that. I was saying that the country Yugoslavia was force to be one country by the west. The Yugoslavia people want their own countries, but they were force to be one. That’s why after the fall of communism the country dived into separate democratic states.

Austria Hungary was already on the verge of splitting apart before the Great War. The Hungarians, Czechs, and South Slavs all had movements for their independence before the war and the Hungarians fought a violent revolution for independence in the 1840s but lost to the Austrians which is the only reason they were forced to stay in Austria-Hungary. All of these groups were very happy to leave Austrian-Hungary and domination by the German Austrians and werent forced to do so.

Not sure which Soviet Union division you’re taking about since they had a hand full. If you’re talking about Estonia and Latvia declaring there independence in 1991 that is true. But Estonia and Latvia were countries before the great wars but were later forced to join the Soviet Union after. But in 1991 they regain there independence.

- There was a country called Sweden-Norway or the United Kingdom of Sweden and Norway and it existed between 1814 and 1905, ,  it wasnt founded in 1880s. The Battle of Leipzig happened in 1813 not the 1880s. It was very much a country with one government and one king until the Norwegians voted for their independence and split the COUNTRY INTO TWO STATES.

Nigeria will not break up; it’s a relatively young country. Nigeria is only 49 years old. Compared to America that is 233 years old and some European and Asian countries that have been around since the 10th centaury. Nigeria is already mentioned to be an economic power of the world in the future and its part of the next 11. There is no good reason why Nigeria should divide. Just because there are some tribal and religious feuds don’t mean anything. Nigeria/Africa is not the only place that has tribes. Central – South America has tribes and Asia too. But you don’t hear them bitchen about their differences. Look it’s the 21st centaury, Tribes and religion don’t mean shit when it comes to developing. All Nigeria need are some good leaders, like fashola and others, to do better and it will. It took America 120 years or so before it had its industrializing. So just because Nigeria isn’t modern right now doesn’t mean anything. It’s a fact that Nigeria is improving and many investors are flooding into the country. There no point to divide. THE Directorate of Military Intelligence, (DMI), yesterday took over investigations into the circumstances surrounding the cargo plane impounded Wednesday in Kano, loaded with arms and ammunition.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has demanded explanations from Equatorial Guinea on its position on the cargo plane.

The development arose from confessional statements allegedly made by the crew members arrested shortly after discovery of the illegal cargo of the aircraft.

Dependable sources close to military authorities disclosed in Abuja that President Umaru Yar’Adua has ordered the State Security Service (SSS), initially handling investigations to hand over the main investigations in the matter to the DMI with a view to getting to the roots of the matter faster.

To this end, the crew members of the cargo aircraft said to be seven, according to the source, have been handed over to the DMI and were subjected to series of interrogations to determine the truth behind their claim that the plane was actually heading to Equatorial Guinea, but only stopped over in Nigeria to refuel when it ran into trouble with Nigerian authorities.

Vanguard further gathered that the Nigerian who gave permission to the plane to land is still undergoing interrogation by the SSS on why he did not take orders from his superior officers before allowing the plane to land for refueling.

The cargo plane was said to be loaded eight crates-load of arms and ammunition including howitzers, rifles, machine guns, rocket launchers and mortars.

The plane, with registration number UR-CAK, which arrived in Nigeria on Wednesday morning from the former Soviet Republic of Ukraine, was allegedly heading to Equatorial Guinea and it stopped over in Kano at about 4:00am to refuel.

The plane ran into troubled waters after refueling when officials of the Nigeria Customs Service as well as Immigration Service, allegedly noticed some suspicious information supplied by the crew in the flight discharge form and demanded to know the content of the plane following the crew’s refusal to declare what the cargo plane was carrying, despite the fact that it was not stated on the form accompanying the cargo.
The DMI, according to security sources, is investigating the possibility that the seized weapons may be intended for one of the many armed groups in the Niger Delta.

The need for interrogation became very important, the source said, because of the fact that the plane was Russian-made, and that most of the weapons seized by the Joint Task Force (JTF) from militants during raids and confrontations, so far were found to be Russian-made, in most cases.

A highly placed source who spoke under condition of anonymity stated that a letter to this effect was dispatched through the Ambassador of Equatorial Guinea to Nigeria, asking the government of that nation to clarify the ownership of the seized weapons.

The source further confided in Vanguard that security men interrogating the crew members to uncover the veracity of the confessions they allegedly made are said to be leaving no stone unturned as they are working on other fronts to ascertain the truth.

The sources also spoke of intervention by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Nigeria who was due to arrive Kano from Abuja yesterday to ascertain whether the crew members were truly Ukrainian nationals as widely reported.

The last time I checked the Federal Republic of Nigeria is one of America's greatest allies. Why would the U.S.A force Nigeria to hand over a majority of its land? Also Nigeria is America’s 4th largest supplier of oil, why the hell would they want to have two different countries controlling the Niger delta region?,  Just saying,  Once again, America and Nigeria are amigos.

And if for some reason the U.S.A. does come to your aid, when Hell freezes over, I’m pretty sure The Nigerian military will put up a good fight , not saying they will win . The Nigerian military is one of the most powerful, in Africa.
