Politics / There Are Too Many Deplorable Presidential Candidate by GAR3TH(m): 5:25am On May 10, 2022
I'm I the only one who is shocked at the amount of worthless presidential candidates who are announcing their participation in the election? Are these people deaf, blind or just narcissist? No body ask 95% of them to run, and the majority of them have a terrible track record. When are we going to start selecting people as candidates in this country based on merit? Who are these clueless clowns that keep running year after year? The fact that this election is already being sun into north vs south, region vs region, tribe vs tribe, just shows you the clown world this country's election is in. Haven't you guys had enough of 60+ years of the same nonsense.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. If we don't change, 60 years from now Nigeria will still look the same.

*i never agreed with you that the Cairo bridge is a flyover. stop imagining yourself to be smart, i wasn't in agreement with you.

*only if it's a "flyover" can it belie the statement in this post.

*3rd mainland bridge in Lagos for e.g. is still not a flyover regardless of what section of it extends to Land.

*you were silent about your claim that "overpass" is american. why?

please stop selling us nonsense!

*I'm not even going to respond to you after this because you are very delusional if you cant understand the simple fact that you are saying the exact same thing i'm saying.

*it is a 6th October bridge is a fly-over

*3rd mainland bridge in Lagos blahaha water water, once again the 6th October bridge in Cairo is over land, over cairo streets for 20 km, you have google map on your computer, go and look at it, why argue and look like a fool.

*I was silent about americans calling it an "overpass"? really, so what do american speak? Chinese, of course america uses the same words as Britain, they speak English, what is your point with that one even?

like I said, your personality is of a person that just likes to argue.

Just so people understand bridges can be flyovers but fly overs can not be bridges. just like fish is a type of food but food can not be a type of fish. in other words a bridge is the main category and fly-over is a sub category.

The 6th October bridge is a bridge and also a fly over at 20 km

TAO11:

mr oga,

firstly, "overpass" is british not american as you think.

secondly, a "bridge" is a generic term describing structures stretching over a body of water, a valley, or a highway interchange.

thus, a structure stretching over a highway interchange is a particular kind of bridge, in which case there are other two kinds. this particular kind of bridge (over a highway interchange) is known as a "flyover"

as such, the terms "bridge" and "flyover" are not equivalents; the former is a broader term encompassing the latter and others, while the latter is obviously a specific case of the broader former.

in conclusion, your pseudo-analysis above can only be correct iff the "20km" "6th october bridge in Cairo" is also a "flyover" (i.e. a bridge stretching over a highway interchange).

it would have been a different case if this post had simply used the generic term "bridge" instead of a more specific connotation "flyover".

I'm sorry but this is what is wrong with Nigeria and Nigerians, you just said exactly what I said but yet you are starting an arrangement, while also agreeing with me? does that make any sense.

Plus you have google maps and google images to lookup the 6th october bridge which start over a river but is a overpass/fly-over that runs 20 km over city streets

Politics / Re: The Longest Flyover In Africa To be Commission By Pmb In Kano-pics by GAR3TH(m): 1:52am On Jan 17, 2019
Just so people understand, a "Fly-over" or in america an "overpass", is a bridge, road or railway that crosses over another road or railway.

so yes the kano thing is a Bridge and a Flyover.

However the 6th October Bridge in cairo is also a bridge and fly over that spans 20 KM over the streets of Cairo.

Not sure what the political heads in Kano are smoking but 1.7km is less than 20 KM.

If they really commission this as the longest Fly-over in Africa then you know Nigerian politicians are missing brain cells

Lagos has the Highest IGR of any state due to its diverse tax programs.

As a matter of fact only Lagos, edo state and a few others generate enough IGR that they are not dependent on Oil allocations.

Lagos is in a different league of its own. Lagos generates more IGR than 31 states combined, 31 STATES COMBINED.

LAGOS IS NOT DEPENDENT ON OIL MONEY, LAGOS HAS EVOLVED PAST THAT PRIMITIVE STATES OF GOVERNMENT HANDOUT.

Politics / Re: Why Do Nigerians Take Arewa Youths More Serious Than Igbos???? by GAR3TH(m): 3:39pm On Jun 10, 2017
I do not take either IPOB NOR Arewa Youths (WHICH KIND YOUTH WHEN MOST OF THEIR MEMBER PASS 40 Y.O.) Seriously.

But as far as Nigerians and the world well, for the past 30+ years now, IPOB or Massob have been saying that they will separate from Nigeria and create Biafra. After 30+ years of hearing the same nonsense without any results would you take them seriously.

I mean to create Biafra, the first step is to hold a referendum to show the U.N. and the world that Biafra is needed. But after 30+ years of shouting and screaming no referendum has even been held, simple basic step 1 has not even been achieved.

so eventually after 30+ years, people just tuned out the biafra movement and dont take it seriously. Britain held a referendum to get out of the E.U. and it only took a few months. Whats taking them so long to hold a basic referendum and squash this issue once and for all.

As for Arewa old mens club, they are a bunch of jokers, but they have had a track record of violence and keeping with the words they say. If hausa fulani leaders say their will be ethnic killings in jos on tuesday, they will be ethnic killings on tuesday.

So thats why, they just keep to their word and they have a track record of doing so

why do people even compare Nigeria and South Africa. It's not even close, South Africa beats Nigeria in all categories including GDP per capital (which is what should have been used in the article instead of total gdp).

Fact is South Africa is still dominate figure in Africa and Nigeria needs to stop playing around and catch up. I'm Nigeria but Nationalism or not, Nigeria that has oil, minerals and a large tax population of 180 million is still behind a nation of 50 million tax population and little natural resources after so many decades is nothing to be proud about.

yes Nigeria is developing, but when you look at Nigeria's large national budget and compare it to average South Africa, then compare the slow rate and pace of development in Nigeria and compared to the rapid pace of southafrica.

Ask yourself who is actually better of. Fact is this thing called Nigeria has to change. There is nothing worse than blind nationalism.

State creation is a cancer. To be honest I believe nigeria will be better of with the six regions becoming their own states and empowering the LGAs and states while decentralizing the federal government.

Another idea that I always think of was if each mid - major ethnic group had there own majority states while subgroups, and minor ethnic groups will run and fully control there own LGAs. With a total of about 20 or so states. If someone screams marganilzation they can easily create a new LGA and not a state since they will have full control.

Politics / Re: USA Minimum Wage Vs Nigeria Minimum Wage. by GAR3TH(m): 6:55pm On Sep 15, 2013
Why do I keep getting the impression that Nigerians are just a bunch of lazy welfare sucking, tax evaders. Really It doesn't take an ounce of brain cells to know that $10 minimum wage in the USA is light years better the minimum wage in Nigeria.

People here are giving excuses saying tax will chop most of the money. Okay then lets add tax to the minimum wage. California has a scale-able income tax so with our $10/hr we will be taxed 2% of our income. in other words we will now earn $9.80/hr That is still more than nigeria's minimum wage. ontop of that you get great roads, schools, infrastructure, electricity, security, various job opportunities, reliable healthcare, financial opportunities etc. If you live on a minimum wage salary in Nigeria ($00.60/hr) what do you get, apart from tax evasion absolutely nothing.

But noooooo according to nigerians $0.60/hr is better than $10/hr because you dont pay tax, really?!? what type of dumb logic of reasoning is that. Also the cost of living in the Usa is about the same as Nigeria (actually a little bit lower) so you have no excuse to say Nigeria is better than the USA. Blind patriotism is what got us into this current state of suffering and smiling.

Fashola wins by a mile, why, Lagos is a non oil producing states that generated a large amount of IGR. Its one of, if not the only state in nigeria that has a significant non oil based budget. If the price of oil drops tomorrow, Akwa Ibom will be in deep trouble if not in major debt. Both states are good, but the one who works hard to get there will always be better than the one who "won" the position.

A bit off topic but the whole deportation thing is overblown and should be used an as excuse.

NEW YORK CITY DEPORTS HOMELESS

In an effort to keep his promise to address the homeless problem in New York City, the Mayor Bloomberg's administration has hit on a novel approach: shipping them out of town.

Since 2007, the city has picked up the tab on travel expenses for more than 550 families to go stay with relatives in other cities, which turns out to be a huge saving compared to the $36,000 it costs annually to house each family, reports The New York Times.

The program costs just $500,000 a year, employing Austin Travel for domestic trips and the Department of Homeless Services handling international travel.

Gotham's homeless have found family in such far-flung places as Paris, Johannesburg and San Juan who were willing to take them in. For one family, the "ticket" out of town was little more than $400 in gas cards to drive home to Michigan.....

Others states include Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Puerto Rico and others

http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/NYC-Exporting-the-Homeless.html

Hawaii To deport homeless

Hawaii's controversial three-year “Return to Home” pilot program launches later this year and is being billed as a way to help the state’s 17,000 homeless residents, while reducing the financial burden the state has in caring for them. Under the plan, the state will pay for a one-way plane ticket for any homeless resident who can find someone on the mainland (USA) to take them in.

People need to read these articles with a grain of salt. what is considered the poverty line is different between every country. In the USA the income poverty line for an individual is $11,490 yearly income and for a family of 5 its $27,570 a year. That is still waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyy higher than the average Nigerian income, which is around just $2000/yr. what is considered poor by american standards may be considered middle-class by Nigerian standards. So dont be quick to judge.

It is called international politics and diplomatic row.

President Obama snubbed Nigeria inspite of her enormous resources and economic integration in the sub Sahara Africa and globally.

President Jonathan heads to China, the second largest economy and the globally accepted alternative to the Americans to tie bi-lateral cooperation and economic integration.

President Jonathan want the Americans (the Obamas) to witness this landmark achievement with the Chinese just to spite them politically.

CNN understanding the diplomatic row between both government decided not to air the sponsored programme.

Common logical will tell you that you do not play "international politics", as you put it, by advertising on TV. You do that through diplomacy and foreign policy. The fact that you think the U.S.A. even cares that GEJ visted china is hilarious. Wasn't it the same china that just visited the U.S. a few weeks ago, a few months ago and several time over the years. Breaking News, the U.S. doesn't care, why should they take nigeria seriously if nigeria doesn't even takes itself seriously.

Plus CNN is a private news organization and not owned by any government, so why would they even care about airing any, any government propaganda from any country?

Anyway I have to question the source of this article and its content.

They said they are now doing soil sampling and have just started the engineering drawings /design of the bridge. So Nigerian journalism, tell me how they can start construction of the bridge when they haven't even finished the engineering design construction document? As good as this news is its doesn't solve any of the real problems that the police college has.

You can continue to paint the buildings with a new coat of paint, replace the roofs and plant flowers but who is to say in one year we will be back to were we were before, with another degraded police college.

The main problem with the college was not the infrastructure but rather the incompetent college administration leaders who were suppose to keep the college from degrading and failed.

Why are they all still in their positions after failing to live up to their responsibilities. Renovation of the college is good and I appreciate it but I do not like that the people who caused this did not get charged or fired.

Only in Nigeria will a gun be charged with murder while the killer walks away free.

It can be relocated to togo or any other country that doesn't have building codes. These type of structures are illegal in all of Nigeria and any sane country that has building codes. Try doing the same in New York and see what happens.

Demolition of illegal structures is done for the safety of the public and residence. Its not about them being poor like some people make it out to be. Even many buildings in rich neighborhood in Abuja, ikeja and lekki were demolished because they were illegal structures. So people should stop trying to twist this issue. An illegal structure is an illegal structure regardless of wealth.

Every place is in the middle of nowhere. It is what you make of the place that makes it become ''somewhere''. Abuja is a top city. And yes it does help to unify the country by being placed at the geographical CENTER of the country.

It is wrong to describe it as ''the north''. It is at the CENTER of the country, NOT ''the north''.

Anybody who wants to inject their ethnicity poison into the whole matter should go and park very well..

Case and point, on why Abuja is pointless. Since when does a city mainly populated buy the rich, become a symbol of unification. So just because a Capital is located in the center of the country, that will stop ethnic disputes? well, to date, it has not stopped the disputes nor violence. Fact remains that the creation of Abuja was pointless and was created based on ego rather than in the minds of the general public.

BTW when people say south or north, they are talking about colonial boundaries not geography.

I 100% agree with the Article. The facts remain that all corrupt official should be impeach regardless of whether or not you have sentiments for them. People have been saying that we should get rid of these corrupt leaders since IBB, Since Abacha, Since OBJ, Since Yaradua etc. Just because GEJ is in office doesn't make it any different.

Let me ask you a question. If you ran a business an you found out one of your employees have been squandering money from you, what will you do? You'll fire them. So when these corrupt politicians steal Millions, talk-less of billions from Nigerians, what should Nigerians do? Impeach them from office.

I dont get why in other countries when a politician is corrupt the citizens demand he gets impeached and they protest/riots in the streets. But in Nigeria, Nigerians just sit there like fools for the past 50 years while your politicians rob you and your country. And the sad part is there are many who blindly support these corrupt leaders based on sentiments.

Should corrupt presidents be impeach, yes, should many in the national assembly be impeached, yes, Should some governors be impeached, yes, but who will impeach them? only Nigerians can. But the question is will Nigerians rise up and stop corruption instead of quietly siting there like fools while these guys steal millions.

To be truthful I dont know what is worst, the corruption in Nigeria's government or the fact people are still defending these corrupt figures and do nothing about it.

If that is the case then Nigeria might aswell split, because we will never accomplish anything with this BS power struggle between the north and south.

In my opinion Fashola/Okorocha would have been a winning match based purely on merits. But instead we are going to end up with a mediocre matchup, based solely on regionalism. Is APC here to fix Nigeria or win an election? Because I cant name one Northern APC member that has the same merits, accolades or resume as fashola, oshiomhole and co.
