. . . Now you are choosing to compare this with those in India? Nigeria's pool of unemployed is nowhere near what is obtained in India. And cost of living is not the same.point is there unemployed Dude, I don't give a fart about what portion of china is developed and what portion is not. We are speaking here of comparing cost of living and minimum wage, not number of SHINY structures there are in one place as against the other. When you were poor, did you care about how developed the state you lived in was or were you more concerned about how to make sure you were able to make ends meet with the little you had available to you and how you could go about improving on that?wtf when did i say all that. . .anyway china has a similar cost of living as nigeria. . .and they have a similar minimum wage. . .they same problems as wewhy do you like to get off topic? The comparisons you are making are flawed considering you have yet to show why someone in Nigeria should look at China, or India's example in this.why do you like repeating?. . .We are in the same situation. . .both have large unemployment field. . .both have similar minimum wages. . .That is the example I gave for my reason why the wage is unethical but some what correct. . .Its nothing more. . .You like to analyze everything I say and rephrase the question every time. . . Its getting annoying. I was doing something that why i answered late |
I love how you twist what i say. . .and try to make me look like the bad guy lol. . . I said complains(talks) does nothing. and if you do "action" petition or confronting your boss etc. . .It works. . .just talking to your self does do nothing. . . See how you twisted what i said smh |
Kobojunkie:Complain No. . .Petition and get some "action" in any way yes the can. You might have figured that Nigeria cannot afford to pay them more but I don't think the average worker out there who works labouring under the sun to feed his family and self wants to concern himself with that. He sees how the leaders share money the way they want . . he sees how billions supposed to be spent to improve living for him are wisked away to foreign accounts and pockets of the rich and fat and he wonders why it seems the harder he works, the more expensive life gets for him. He has a right to be frustrated and complain the way he knows how to.Then what is he waiting for . . .sorry to be mean. . .but he sees his leaders taking the money and does nothing. . .he sees billions wasted and does nothing. . .He has the right to be frustrated and complain but guess what. . .he is doing nothing. . .If you want change you have to fight for it with some action. . . The are 150 million nigeria and only about 2,000 of them (leaders) are the one spoiling everything. . .I'm sorry You can complain all you want but until you get some "action" going life will remain the same. |
Kobojunkie:LOL NEW AGE . . . People with out computers lol. . .People have been petitioning for thousands of years. . .Face it complaining(talk) is different from petitioning(action). . . You do?about N50,000 and that was when i was in maryland, USA. . .but My family is doing better now. . . You mean you answered the following questions?just like India its The large Unemployed Labor Pool Is the average Chinese more likely to face the same problems the average Nigerian does on a daily basis?Yes they have the same problems as we. . .Not all of china is developed you know. . .maybe I should Have used India. What is the real basis of this comparison? To show an example of another country in a similar position. . .showing that the amount is technical right when compared to similar countries. Is it that you think the average Nigerian who is having to deal with life on minimum wage is concerned with what minimum wage is in other developing countries?I was just backing up my claim of "technically right" by giving examples and comparisons of other countries |
so why arguing about it if you know it's ethically wrong
lol I'm not arguing about it. . .my point is that yes it ethically wrong. . .but at the same time its technically right considering nigeria's circumstances. . .I really don't know why Kobo keeps replying to everything i say. . .making it seem like an argument. . .I'm on the same side as her saying that its to low. |
Kobojunkie:I Thought it was the gov. that just increased the wage. . .if it was 'cause of their complaining then i stand corrected. . .But you do realized that complaining and Petitioning are two different things along with the others in bold. . .Complaining is talking while the other are doing action. And I Know how its like to be poor. . . You say not to compare with US but yet you keep comparing with America. Sigh!I did Answer them |
do the maths by yourself if this amount is '' somewhat justifed'' in your own word. A man of 30 years with a wife and three kids living in a one bedreoom flat and he's expected to feed 5 people including himself, send his 3 children to school up to university level, transport the family, provide shelter, take care of his extend family responsiblities all on 17 thousand and he's expected to pay for his flat with atleast 70 thousand naira per annum.theoritically the money may sound big to some people, but practically on a daily basis is absoulte nothing. the most interesting part is that the civil service rules does not allow for workers to source income from others means.what do you expect the poor man to do ?
I never said that the minimum wage was ethically right. . .what i said was giving the circumstances that nigeria is in the minimum wage is about at the right amount, though it could be higher. |
, Kobojunkie:Complaining NEVER SOLVES ANYTHING. . .Nigerians Have been Complaining for 50 Years about electricity, nothing happened, Water, nothing happened, Better leader, nothing happens, roads, nothing happened. . .If you want something stop complaining and actually deal with the problem with some action. . .dont just talk. . .If nigerians did not complain an actually did something we could as well be a develop country by know. And no I have not lived with N20,000/M But again, why is China supposedly in similar situation that Nigeria is in. Apart from the fact that both are developing/underdeveloped. What else do the two countries have in common? Is cost of living in China same as that in Nigeria? Is the average Chinese more likely to face the same problems the average Nigerian does on a daily basis? What is the real basis of this comparison? Is it that you think the average Nigerian who is having to deal with life on minimum wage is concerned with what minimum wage is in other developing countries? The Large Unemployed labor pool. . .Thats why china has a low minimum wage because their are a large number of unemployed people. . .and by having a low minimum wage you can increase job growth. . .Thats why you hear that american jobs are going over seas to china. . .A low minimum wage can be a good thing sometimes. . .it can help with job growth as nigeria really needs |
No, you are not answering the question. You suggested they stopped complaining because this minimum wage out to provide for all their needs, yes or no?First I Dont Believe this (nigeria's) minimum wage is ought to provide all your needs. . .But What Im saying is that this is what your going to get so try and make with it. many Nigerian companies cannot afford higher minimum wages. . .complaining wont help any body. I am sorry? you all act . . . who are the you?Nairalanders Who? Are you sure you are speaking to the right person here? You used the UNIVERSAL meaning here and all you are asked to do is provide more details as to how you justify this minimum wage by that.Once Again Nairalanders. . .this is a public forum. . .Im not just posting to you. . . First you say do not compare this with the US but you now want to compare this with China? And on what basis is this comparison being made? That cost of living in China is about the same as cost of living in Nigeria?First the U.S. is a develope country. . .Nigeria is not. . .we are not the same. . .The U.S. can afford a $7.50/hour wage. . .If nigeria offers that wage companies wont make a profit. . . Thats why I said stop comparing Nigeria to the U.S. and start comparing it to countries in similar situations such as china.

|
Kobojunkie:Nigerians dont have a choice. . .the minimum wage is what it is and from what i hear it was lower before. . .I know I sound mean but The Minimum wage in my opinion, under the circumstances. . .is somewhat justified. . .the wage in my opinion can only rise to 20,000-30,000. . .if you increase the minimum wages you would hurt job growth. . .as we know right now. . .there are alot of unemployed people in Nigeria. Nigeria is not a developed country we all have to remember that. . .we all act like Nigeria is with all our demands. . .and stop comparing it to the likes of america. . .Look at china a developing economic superpower that is more develop than nigeria. . .they also have a large labor pool that needs jobs just like nigeria. . .do you know what there minimum wage is. . .US$140/M. . .About the same as Nigeria's. . . |
agitator:sorry im edited my first response. . .i confused myself with unemployement checkes lol, . .each country has its own minimum wage. . .Luxembourg has a wage of $2416/m and other countries have 200/m. . .its what the government feels the lowest wage should be giving the economical situation. . .in my opinion, as of right now I feel that the minimum wage should increase slightly to N20,000. . .Increase enough so it can grow the econmy but not to much that it will hurt job creation. |
@ fntekim LOL Just so you get an idea of how Gurara State Might look from a map i made. the one natural boundary that would divide the two state is the kaduna river. https://i27.tinypic.com/22f576.jpg |
wow that would mean that half of kaduna state would be spilt up. . .and half of its population would be divided. . .lol I'll try and make a map. |

Pennywise: But many parts of Lagos Island were built up on reclaimed land. . .that happened in the 1970's. . .40 years later those parts of lagos island have not sank. . .even recently there was a new island built just north of lagos island and ikoyi. . .Its called Banana Island and till this date is has not had any problems. . . |
Pennywise:What do you mean when you said "if things dont go well"? what things? Lagos is desperately short of land. . .the lagos state gov estimates that about 6,000 people arrive in lagos every day (cnn). . .and will become the third largest city in the not to distance future (UN). . .believe me lagos is short of land. |
Could The People who are against this project please list the reasons why they're against it? |
okay |
[qoute]That you already knew that does not mean all others knew that !! So, good for you!![/qoute] NO, I even told you its was an infrastructure project in a different thread. Do you know what the word "glorified" means?Yea I dont know how "over" got in there. . .and I was asking a question. What does the word estate mean again? the project is privately funded and controlled. Is that not what an estate means again? An estate can be a city !Thats why I put estate in qoutes. . .When people say estate. . .they usually think of family size houses/property. . .instead of High Rises. . . FROM THE DEVELOPERUm I didnt really get were you where going with this but. . .If you are saying the developer can build what ever they want that false because there will be zoning law( height limits) in each district and zone. |
SSaemoenl:How many average american can afford a condo or apartment in middle town or downtown Manhattan? answer not to many, probably only the top 3% of the population. But millions of people still flood to Manhattan every day because that is new York city's central business district. . .the driving force of the cities economy. |
Kobojunkie: Kobojunkie:we already knew that this was only an infrastructure project. and we knew that investors would have to develop the land. But why do you make it seem that this project over glorified? is there something i need to know? this is not an "estate" its a city. . .a central business district. You make it sound like they are going to build 2 storey houses, while infact you are wrong. This city would be home to high-rises and skyscrapers. you do realize that their are zoning laws right |
"no. . .Where not sinking, The water's rising" lol a quote from one of my dumb friends. . . .anyway nice read |
minimum wages explains its self. . .its the lowest amount of money that will get you through. . .minimum wage is ment for your NEEDS in life. . .such as paying for food, Water, bills, Cheap Clothes, etc. . .It Is NOT MEANT FOR LUXURIES WANTS. . . .Such as TV, car, fine clothes, etc. . . .Minimum wage is just so you can get by through life until you can find a job. . .so why the complaining? |
lol @ op that is a model "toy". . .Its art that somebody Created. . .and how the hell would any consider that lagos. . .I havent read through all the comments yet so if I repeated something already said . . . MY bad . . . |
@snowdrops True just noticed that. . .it would be nice to here both side of the storey. . .instead of just the "christain" side www.indcatholicnews.com got their source from www.releaseinternational.org |
Christians killing Muslims. . . Muslims killing Christians. . .just an average day in the northern middle belt of Nigeria I personally dont care any more. . . |
@Kobojunkie Que? ezeagu:1st - private project not government. . .not private investors responsiblitiy to "face problems" 2nd - like I said in the last post what space does lagos have. . .we to ran out of space too. . .unless you want to start demolishing. . .thats why they are "extending their shores" or i'm I missing something? ![]() |
not really. . .has long as he get the job done. . .I dont care were he came from |
@ezeagu its not for showing off Lagos will be the third largest city on earth come 2015 (after tokyo and mumbai). . .this expansion is nothing new. . .Parts of toronto's downtown area is built on reclaimed land from the sea. . .MANY parts of New York City is built on reclaimed land from the sea. . .the reason lagos is building on the water is the same reason new york, toronto and many other city reclaim land. . .because the is not enough space in land. . . Unless you want to start demolishing houses and make more people homeless this is the best strategy. . .this project is about twice the size of victoria island. . . if you can find any available land in lagos that is twice the size of victoria island please tell me. |
Easy for u to say. . but just note that your average clueless Nairalander doesn't know that
lol. . .so true. . .and a big shame. . .Nairalanders love to Ignore any good news from nigeria |
