Powerful write up! It encapsulates everything bad about Nigeria and why that country will never move foward. The truth shall always prevail over lies. |
It seems that many Yorubas do not know that landmass has nothing to do with state creation, it is all about population. Nobody cares about landmass, what is important is capacity. Borno is the size of Britain but Britain is the 5th richest country in the world. I should add that Anioma should have been the 6th Igbo state. But all these things do not matter, if there is either a return to real federalism/Regionalism (or Biafra), the first thing we Igbos are going to do is abolish all the states in our area leaving just the Local Governments. State creation started by Gowon is one of the worst things to happen in Nigeria |
kropotkin2:It will only be a walkover if you have ever heard that a person was jailed for 'talking' in a democratic dispensation. The video of him soliciting arms still falls under 'talking' and the constitution allows Kanu to say anything including threaten anyone, even Nigeria. Unless the Government can actually prove he did something 'actively' besides talking, the case is dead in the water and is nullified by Kanu's constitutional right to free speech and expression. |
OgundeleT:All the above might have meant something if the Igbo nation had at any time agreed to the union of Nigeria. On the 4th of July 1776, the leaders and representatives of the 13 colonies that make up America came together to sign the 'American Delaration Of Independence' where they pledged to be one country which produced the USA. On the 1st of May 1707, the Welsh, Scottish and English crowns came together and signed "The Act Of Union" which produced the United Kingdom, the very people who created Nigeria. Now, when and where did the Yoruba/Igbo/Hausa man come together to agree on 'one Nigeria'? It never happened, so by extension, Nigeria, its Government and constitution are all illegal since no contract of unity was ever agreed on in the first place. Therefore, it is incumbent on the Government to legalise 'Nigeria' by directly asking the indigenous nationalities Lord Lugard forced together, if they consent to the union, via a referendum. Any other thing is just mere grandstanding. |
Kingsasian:I don't think the politicians are the problem. The problem is Oil. Oil and who controls it has always been the problem in Nigeria and forever will be. |
Propropro:And after 'Biafra died', has your country moved foward since then? |
OgundeleT:The state is never greater than the people who populate it. You only get a sovereign state when the indigenous people of the land jointly and collectively decide to come together as a nation. If there are any of them who do buy the idea, nobody should force them into the union, that would be an extension of the same colonialism. As for this talk that anyone who wants a referendum should look for it through the National Assemby, how is that going to work? Is it the NASS that created Nigeria? Will the Northerners even agree to it? Why should a Northerner even be voting in the internal sovereign matter of an Easterner? If the Yoruba/Igbo/Hausa man never had any formal agreement to be together, on what basis do either of them have the right to decide who stays and who goes? Nigerias entire claim to sovereignty is based on the fact that Lord Lugard sat in some room in the north and signed a document proclaiming everyone as 'one people' It should be said that even Lord Lugard who created Nigeria prescribed a shelf life of a 100 years for the country in the Amalgamation Document. As of 1st January 2014, Nigeria became an illegal entity. |
chydon24:Of course. First he restructured Nigeria by abolishing the regions and creating States in other to entrench 'divide and rule' then he invaded the Eastern Region and killed millions because of how the map of Nigeria would have looked. Many countries still list him as a genocidal killer who slaughtered millions in the name of a non existent 'one Nigeria' |
No alternative to Nigeria? Before, Lord Lugard came to create Nigeria, what alternative existed then? |
SuperS1Panther:Guy, you have no country. What you have is a forced colonial creation that is heading nowhere |
SuperS1Panther:Guy, you are reasoning like someone who is not aware that this is the 21st century. You are talking about referendum and constitution? On which constitution did Lugard make you a Nigerian? You are talking about divorce when you never had a wedding? One last thing. Chapter four of the Nigerian constitution allows anyone the right to free speech and expression. This means that Kanu is entitled to preach hate and make threats, against anyone or even Nigeria. So stop talking nonsense until such a time that free speech is removed from the constitution and focus on those who are no longer making theats but actually killing people such as Boko Haram, herdsmen, cultists, militants and the security agencies. After you have addressed them, the you can come back to address Kanu for 'mere talking' |
Now watch as haters from a section of the country (you all know them) will flood in here to insult Mrs Kanu. |
drss2:Those who voted Buhari were far more interested in throwing out GEJ than they were about what they were bringing in. A case of chasing out the Cat to bring in the Lion. |
Yyeske:Seun can always quote chapter 4 of the Nigerian constitution which allows everyone freedom of expression, freedom of speech, freedom of peaceful assembly, freedom of conscience and the right to freedom from discrimination. The constitution permits anyone and everyone to not only talk about Biafra but also to peacefully protest and agitate for it if they wish. If you don't like it, start your own protest to change the constitution. |
102 years of national existence but Igbos are still looking for accomodation within Nigeria? Nwodo is a politician, he has talked as a politician. I do laugh at the "Igbos have investments in Nigeria" sentiments. What about the Igbos who have investments in other countries like America, Britain etc? They should throw away their sovereign rights in the name of investments? Nigeria remains a British colonial creation and it is the right of the various ethnic nationalties to decide their destiny |
Speak2klein:Clamouring for sovereignty isn't a waste of time. A person without sovereignty is actually a nobody. It is having control of your land, your resources, your laws and your political will that makes you sovereing and gives you the best chance to develop your land as you see fit. Ideally, Nigeria should have been run in a "European union style" confederation where all Igbos, Igboids,Igbo speaking people and some of the minorities who confortable with Igbos will be in one region with no states, just provinces (or Local Govts). The Regions will be more powerful than the center, control 100% of their resources, pay an agree percentage to the center, have their own parliament, enact their own laws, have their own regional police etc. it is then that Igbos can finally administer themselves and develop their land. But we all know that the North does want this because they know that 'Igbo region' is liable to secede any time. Igbos leaving their land to develop other places was as a direct consequence of the war because they had to move out of their war ravaged lands to find green pasture elsewhere. But I'm happy this trend is declining. Current happenings in Nigeria has made Igbos realise that 'one Nigeria' is redundant. Many Igbos are now choosing to site their immovable assets back home due to the volatility of Nigeria. When you talk about 'plan'. You can't put the cart before the Horse. Britain just recently left the EU single market. Not even the British Government has a plan about what they will do outside the EU. What they do know is that the sovereign will of the British people must be followed and they believe that they will survive outside the EU. |
Speak2klein:Stop talking like an ignoramus. How can you be talking about Igbos developing their land and being financially independent when the Igbos don't have their sovereignty? How can the Igbo man control his destiny when that destiny is controlled in Abuja? How can the Igbo man reach his full potential when when the Igbo man is under the laws of Nigeria? Is the Igbo man controlling his large deposit of Coal in Enugu? Is the Igbo man controlling his Oil in Anioma,Anambra, Imo and Abia? Is the Igbo controlling his large deposit of limestone in Ebonyi? All of these natural resources are under the Government of Nigeria. So how do you think that a people who don't have their sovereignty can grow? Start talking about the real issues instead of this "let's keep managing in Nigeria" mentality you have. One more thing. During the Biafran war, people didn't starve in Igboland because of lack of a strong Agricultural base. It is on record that the largest food producing area in the Eastern region that later became Biafra was Abakiliki. Ojukwu foresaw that there would be a food crises and began a program of intensive cultivation of the land. The reason why people starved was because the war turned many into refugees and they had to leave their lands and farms to flee for dear life. |
DropShot:What will the presidency do for Igbos? Has the presidency done anything special for those who held it in the past? So an Igbo man becomes president then what? Stars will drop out of the Sky? There things that are more important |
We Igbos are not interested in the 'poisonous' office of president of Nigeria. There are other things that are important than that |
sCun:Exactly! The mischievous OP just 'flashed' the Headline without bothering to read the content. |
TheArchangel:Don't mind them. Kanu has frequently said the Biafra he is fighting for is a "restoration project". Kanu has said that the word 'secession' only comes into use if indigenous people in Nigeria had made a binding agreement to be together like the UK and America once did. So he asked people to drop the word secession and use 'restoration' since Nigeria is not a binding country. The Headline is misleading |
Aigbofa:Mandela was even worse than Kanu. Mandela took up arms, kanu is yet to kill anyone. So if what bothers you is what Kanu said then you have misplaced priorities. At least Kanu is still in the talking stage, there are many who are not talking any more, it is their gun talking for them. You should be happy that Kanu is still only talking. |
UncleSnr:Yes I would vote for an atheist, the many non atheist we have voted for in the past have all turned out to be disappointments anyway |
Before Kanu, there were many Nigerians who didn't know that self determination is a right. |
BizLifeE:Just shout "Sai Baba!" three times and all your problems will be solved. When us in the SE/SS were warning you guys that this man will make things much worse than GEJ, you all thought we were fools. Now face the music! |
Zoo song! |
kikies:Of course they took offence! Many Yorubas still call out Igbos for killing Northern and western leaders, even here on NL. I'm not even sure who killed Ademulegun, under what circumstances and by what directive. The only thing some people want to hear is that " it was an Igbo coup". But rarely will you ever hear a Yoruba man ever call out the Northerners despite the Northerners killing their Governor of the western region and denying a Yoruba man their rightful place as president twice. |
ManMountain:Then the question you should ask your self is this. After decree 34, why did all of those who came after Ironsi promulgate and enact worse decree's than decree34? If Ironsi was a bad man for decree 34? What are all those who came after him? Buhari was one of the Northern officers who participated in the counter-coup that killed Ironsi. They said one of the main reasons they did it because of decree 34. The same Buhari is now president after 50 years of that, he is still telling Nigerians that "decree 34" must stay. The same Yorubas who criticise Ironsi that he took away true federalism with decree 34 are the same people who are hailing Buhari who participated in the killing of Ironsi for decree 34 but the same Buhati still stands on decree 34. We all know that Buhari will never agree for true federalism to return, he can't, he is a Northerner. The hypocrisy is just too much. |
ManMountain:Wrong bro, the foundation of everything wrong with Nigeria was when Lugard brought incompatible people together. |
i don't think Nnamdi Kanu is going to back down on the Biafran struggle for freedom. He has made it his life mission |
It never ceases to amaze me the way "one Nigeria" supporters gather to discuss how they are going fight and kill everyone to keep their 'dream' alive |
CSTR12:I couldn't have said it any better. But I want to add that even if secession had been inserted into the constitution, it would have been the first thing the Notherners would have removed after their successful coup. |

They should go to Abuja and bomb the mansions of those thieves.
