This actually explains my recent fear. I used 5w-20 for the first time following a filter change. Within a few weeks of mild driving, I have topped up my oil with more than 2L of oil. I was really worried. The car doesn't smoke, though scanning has always revealed low catalyst efficiency.
Please, Gazzuzz, what is the way out? Are we stuck with 20w-50? One mech guy suggested changing the rings, what do you think?

You are stuck with it until you get a new engine. For now you can go semi synthetic total quarts 7000 sold for 4700 it's 15w50.

I have been using synthetic oil @ price lower than 6k for my corolla 03 and I can see better good improvement than when using more costly brand .IF you interested in a particular brand and you need info ,check reviews instead of using price to categorize the better oil and casting stones.

IF you can read, you will notice I have posted evidence that you have been using semi synthetic engine oils, in layman's terms 70per, Mineral oil mixed with 30per synthetic oil.

Personally I feel it's a scam buying semi synthetic for 6,000 all in the name of 5W30.

You were quick to tell me to "SHUT UP" it's a good thing I did not.

Just got a new tokunbo engine for my Rav4 2002 Model.

Well, my mechanic just removed the THERMOSTAT!!!

My engine is actually cooler now going by the METRE guage ON THE DASHBOARD.

But, my FAN is as noisy as its always been.

Always rolling at full blast.

Infact I can't sneak my car home, my children will always notice because of that noise.

Aside from this, no issues.

Abeg, who is in charge of the Fan Speed: the ECU or the THERMOSTAT.

Expert advice required.

Gazz can you throw more light on this?

6years! Don't know the oil change intervals but I can guess, sludge is presently protecting the engine from failure, once you introduce "the original" but a thiner oil that takes car of the sludge problem, then you start having the oil shortages, then the rattling then finally the knock. Iv seen it happen twice.

Total quartz 7000 is semi synthetic oil 15w40 and was sold for 3500 2years ago. Presently it's sold for 4700 and there's a promo going on, you get 1liter free.

I'm using total quartz 7000 as an example here.

The craze for "synthetic oils" made a lot of companies cash in on an untapped market of naive car users, who were ready to pour in "manufacturer" specific engine oils in their vehicles just because the containers were labeled "synthetic" oils.

I dare any of you pouring any engine oil into your engine that costs less than 6,000 to take a pic of the container of the portion that states "FULL SYNTHETIC OIL".

What you guys buy online are semi synthetic or "a blend of synthetic" oils whic is basically a 30per mix of synthetic to mineral oil.

Will continue this at 11pm tonight, just warming up

@Tudexautocare. I use a 2006 honda DC and what U described is very similar to d problem I'm experiencing. My car works normally provided i don't rev up to 3000 rpm while driving . Anytime i try to accelerate to 3000 rpm,d car will start to jerk and seize as if its not getting enough fuel. Pls what could be d problem with my car .tnx

And do your engine some good by changing your filter after 3000miles.

All these oils cost around 8-12k for 4liters, any one selling synthetic oil less than 6k is selling rubbish.

Thanks a lot Kashif, Gazzuzz & Speed001. Discovered harness wires for my O2 sensor close to the catalyst converter were slit,cut apart, exhaust cone /packing was bad. Had the O2 wires joined together and replaced bad exhaust packing. Error went off, had only P0125 which I cleared with the scan tool kit. I ve been test driving it, check light hasn't come on.
@Speed001 I will look for an experienced electrician to correct the running of my fans.
I truly appreciate u guys and I will update u as things progress further.

Pay serious attention to that damaged harness I cannot begine to count the number of people who have replaced engine Ecu because of that kind of issue.

Get to 6000 miles before draining your oil. I want to belive the oil you bought is synthetic? I use synthetic for 1year in my vehicle if it has not reached the 6000mile mark

Thanks for the response. on start up, car idles at around 2000rpm. you press the gas pedal, no response. the rpm does not go up or move at all. Change gear to D, car moves and drive without power from the pedal. would run a scan. thanks

Throttle cable or electronic throttle body? Meanwhile there's no communication between the pedal and the throttle butterfly "electronic or cable" that's why there's no response. Now a scan should reveal the culprit, even though I have a small idea of what could be wrong. Give me a call 08023251039

Possible causes of problem:

Cloged strainer inside transmission, causing low pressure.

Solutions: drain and re-fill again (done 3rice, didn't work)

Drop gearbox, open check and clean srainer.
