This photograph taken in 1991 shows how much road space 72 people would need if they used bicycles vs. cars vs. a bus. This photograph was commissioned by the planning department of the City of Münster, Germany. According to its website, Münster is the “most liveable city world-wide,” and I see no reason why that can’t be true. http://truthseekerdaily.com/2014/05/the-photograph-that-has-been-making-cars-look-stupid-for-20-years/

senator2k9: Good day Nairalanders esp ikenna and Sienna and other car experts in d house. I have a toyota camry 1999 model and anytime I'm travelling it overheats after every 30mins unless I pour water on d body of d radiator before it becomes stable. My coolant level is ok. Could it be d waterpump or a clogged radiator? How do I knw if d water pump is bad? Comments plsOverheating treated here:https://www.nairaland.com/1788778/maintenance-tips-cars/4#25178634 To test you water pump 1. Ensure there is no coolant leak from the water pump or pump area. 2. When cool open the radiator pressure cap and ensure coolant flows when the engine has become hot (thermostat if any should hold water in the head until it reaches 82degrees Celsius) if rev engine a bit you will notice faster flow of water. |
COMMON CAUSES OF ENGINE OVERHEATING An overheated engine can be caused by anything that decreases the cooling system’s ability to absorb, transport and dissipate heat; therefore engines can overheat for a variety of reasons. Let’s take a look at some of the most common causes. Cooling System Leaks This is the primary cause of engine overheating. Possible leak points include hoses, the radiator, water pump, thermostat housing, heater core, head gasket, freeze plugs, automatic transmission oil cooler, cylinder heads and block. Perform a pressure test. A leak-free system should hold pressure for at least one minute. Wrong Coolant Concentration Be sure to use the coolant recommended by your vehicle’s manufacturer. The wrong type of coolant and/or mixing the incorrect concentration of coolant and distilled water can also result in engine overheating. The best bet is to perform a complete flush and fill. Bad Thermostat A thermostat is a heat-sensitive valve that opens and closes in response to engine temperature. Heated engine coolant passes through to the radiator when the thermostat is in the open position. In the closed position, it prevents the flow of coolant to speed up the warming of a cold engine. When the thermostat gets stuck in the closed position, coolant stays in the engine and quickly becomes overheated, resulting in engine overheating. Blocked Coolant Passageways Rust, dirt and sediment can all block or greatly impede the flow of coolant through the cooling system. This can limit the system’s ability to control engine temperature, which may result in higher operating temperatures and engine overheating. Once again, a flush and fill is recommended to remove debris. Faulty Radiator By passing through a series of tubes and fins, coolant temperature is reduced in the radiator. Leaks and clogging are some of the most common causes of radiator failure. Any disruption in the radiator’s function can lead to elevated engine temperature and overheating. Worn/Burst Hoses A hose that contains visual cracks or holes, or has burst will result in leaks and disrupt the flow of engine coolant. This can result in overheating. Bad Radiator Fan A fan blows air across the radiator fins to assist in reducing the temperature of the coolant. A fan that wobbles, spins freely when the engine is off, or has broken shrouds will not be able to reduce the temperature to proper level, thus possibly resulting in engine overheating. Loose or Broken Belt A belt is often the driving link that turns the water pump at the correct speed for proper coolant flow through the cooling system. If a belt is loose or broken, it cannot maintain the proper speed, thus resulting in poor coolant flow and ultimately, engine overheating. Faulty Water Pump Known as the ‘heart’ of the cooling system, the water pump is responsible for pressurizing and propelling engine coolant through the cooling system. Any malfunction of the water pump, including eroded impeller vanes, seepage or wobble in the pump shaft, can prevent adequate coolant flow and result in engine overheating. |
kingdvd: A friend of mine just intruduced me to CNG (compressed Natural Gas) for my car and it saves you cost upto 70-80%.Forget this idea fast CNG+CAR = Bomb speaking from a nigeria point of view forget the idea. Down sides you need to carry a cylinder in the boot. There are very few refill stations for cng You will have to mess with your cars wiring Accidents from the rear could result in........... Booooom Nigeria is not ready for CNG I see them on dangote trucks. Dangote has licence to import CNG its cheaper for him, he has fill up points located for his trucks. |
princedant: Make una talk na....Parts not available, don't buy. |
Cvesta: My camry 2.2 wiper suddenly stopped working, fuse works fine, mech says it mite b d wiper's engine..What could b rung?...i also notice dat my right front tire feels bumpy wen i ride, lik it jumps sumtimes..wat is rung...am a noviceSince you are a novice there's no DIY (do it your self) would have told you to check relays and fuses and worst case scenario remove the wiper motor and check if it works by powering it up directly if that fails replace motor. Since you r not knowledgeable just use the tips I just mentioned. Motor should be btw 5-10k. Bouncy feeling should be the front struts (shock absorbers) or your tyres. |
Beautiful4u: Mr. Gazz God bless u for the good work u r doing. My toyota camry jerks whenever I select the Drive and Reverse gear. What is d fault. ThanksCheck engine mounts (engine seatings) there are four. |
aceman: I'm in Abuja, can you kindly recommend who can supply the sensor?I don't think you should jump into replacing sensors, first have the sensors checked for disconnections or breaks. Mean time ill search for somone who can have your abs checked in abuja, for now I can't remember any one. |

edozie04: A car is due 4 service every 5000miles,calculate the mileage from when you bought itDepends on the type of motor oil. toniro: Hi guyz, sorry to brothe. I hav a corolla, Which I got as a tok back in april 1 week. Now its august and som folks says I need to service the car while som other colleagues say too early. So I am at a twist. What type of oil do u use? Be specific when answering. How many miles or km have you covered since your last change? TYPES OF MOTOR OIL Motor oil can be segmented into four basic varieties—synthetic oil, synthetic blends, high mileage oil and conventional oil. Synthetic motor: This oil is a laboratory synthesis of precisely controlled ingredients created by oil engineers, scientists and chemists. When combined with a high-performance additive package, this results in an oil with the highest levels of lubrication and engine protection, generally offering better protection at startup, better cleansing qualities, enhanced durability and better protection against heat buildup. Synthetic blend motor: This oils use a mixture of synthetic and conventional base oils for added resistance to oxidation (compared to conventional oil) and to provide excellent low-temperature properties and are recommended for cars, trucks, vans and SUVs that regularly carry heavy loads, tow trailers and/or operate frequently at high RPMs. High-mileage motor oil: This is specially blended for older vehicles, or vehicles with higher mileage. Typically, 120,000 kilometers is the figure used regarding high mileage oil. Some high mileage, high-performance cars, however, will be better served by continuing to use a synthetic motor oil. That said, a special high mileage motor oil blend, with its unique additives and viscosity, helps reduce oil burn-off, helps in sealing oil leaks and helps improve combustion chamber sealing to help restore engine compression. It all adds up to enhanced performance in older engines. Conventional motor oil: This is what its name implies—it uses base oils enhanced in the blending process with chemical additives to help meet the manufacturer's desired levels of heat tolerance, breakdown resistance and viscosity (viscosity simply being a technical term for the thickness and fluidity of the oil). Conventional motor oil can be had in a range of viscosity grades and quality levels, from adequate to an extensively designed, high-quality lubricant. Conventional motor oil is recommended for drivers with low-mileage, late-model cars whose driving habits can be described as routine—commuting, running errands, vacation driving at relaxed cruising speeds. Today more and more engines require synthetic oil, so be sure to check your owner’s manual to make sure you don’t invite avoidable engine problems. Examples of synthetic motor oil is mobil 1 Example of conventional motor oil mobil XHP I change my motor oil (conventional) at 3000km When I use full synthetic I change at 5000miles that's 8500km |
"D right front wheel is still leaking tho so I'm yet to enjoy d brake..." Stop using that car untill you solve all the brake probems before it becomes a coffin. |
benumukoro: I just bought one 2006 SATURN VUE car. I have check through some mechanic shops here in ph in case I need to service it but many say they cannot. please do you know any expert on this car make?I'm sorry I don't know any "good mechanic in PH) What do you mean by service? Oil/filter change Spark plug replacement Brake pads Checking suspension parts Serpentine belt replacement Etc Can be done by a good mechanic but in your case look for a mechanic conversant with GM (general motors) or a mechanic that is conversant with the opel brands. Your engine is produced by GM and I'm guessing most of the other parts will shared by other opel brands. If you have a particular problem with your car feel free to post here we will help in any way we can. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturn_Corporation |

adanny01: May be you are being funny. The part that he actually selected park and the car didnt stop is what i find hard to believe. Do you know what park is? Its a LOCKING mechanism that locks the transmission.Putting a car in park while it is moving will not cause is freeze up instantly (from experience with several cars) it will make a funny noise and freeze when ur very slow like 5km per hour. Its the best recipe to damage an automatic transmission, but also a last resort after every method fails. |
You paid 1,450,000 for a 2003 le camry you can get for same price or less cash and carry? Even here on nairaland there are countless posts of tokumbor camrys just run a vin check and you are good to go. U sef you no like your self. |
In the future there's a thing called parking brakes (handbrake) it looks like the pic I attached, use it and don't panic next time think. Happy you didn't kill any one. P.s I doubt you were going fast enough to kill your self.

lurvy: Hi GAZZUZZ and other car gurus in the house....Will get back to you within the hour. Modified The rattling noise you are hearing is most likely coming from the head (top cylinder) you camshaft and vvti are being starved of oil, this could be caused by a bad oil control valve or a clogged oil control valve strainer(filter). I will post pictures of the ocv and strainer. Have them checked out and strainer cleaned.

mokikeoj: Hello, I just acquired a 2007 Honda and would like to find out the best fluids for the following:Recommended engine oil 5W-20 fully synthetic Power steering fluid: (I use any dextronIII if its a top off but using DW1 will be better if its a complete flush you can then use for 3years after that) Transmission fluid:strictly honda ATF DW1 Brake oil: any good DOT 3 fluid will do. Washer fluid: (I use morning fresh liquid wash) don't know recommended but that has always worked for me. Coolant: better to use the 4liter already mixed instead of buying the smaller cans. Most of these oils you can source from Luvinhubby www.hondaspares.com.ng (08029255299) |

drcenti07: Hi Gazzuzz..What kind of throttle body do you use? Is it motorised? If its not you have to check the idle speed valve its always located on the throttle body. More pictures of the throttle body will be more helpful. Now if your throttle body is motorised, and has been replaced or disconnected recently you might have to recalibrate it if your ecm(brainbox) does not have a re-learning fuction. As for the codes P0101: mass airflow meter 0106:map manifold absolute pressure 0113:intake air temp circuit 0136:O2 sensor malfunction bank2 sensor1 bank 2 is near the firewall opposite side of radiator. 0141:O2 heater sensor malfunction bank 1 sensor 2 that's the lower sensor on the radiator side 0156:O2 sensor bank 2 sensor 2 lower side fire wall, 0171:system too lean bank 1(ignore this error when you fix the underlying problem it will go), 0175:system too rich bank 1(also ignore this code, 0183:fuel temp sensor open or short, 0446:evaporation emission control system vent control circuit. Please reset your codes and re scan your vehicle after using it for a day then let's see which codes show up, do not do any testing with the sockets after resetting as it will store errors. Modified Since there's a TPS its not motorised open the other sensor on the pic and have it cleaned that's the idle speed valve. |
