smartchoice: That's still 102.5kilometres! Poor in my opinion ...I get 10 liters to a kilometer. Hence 14 liters would have given me a fixed 140 kilometers! That's 87 miles!

dnt understand ur maths here bro, 10 liters to do 1 kilometer? Hmmm that's a lot. Yestday I got 185.6 kilometers(116mile) on 30liter tank. Pls correct me if am wrong that means I use 1 liter for about 6 kilometers abi?

Logically, it sounds more like it. For your ac, i think your gas is running less,it might need a refilling soon. Check for leaks and also tightened the ends of hoses that terminate to the ac compressor and the condenser, they could have slackened too

I think its too high and the tuning needs to be readjusted, mind usually kick to 1000rpm at cranking but then idles down to 600 or 700rpm, my neighbours w203 c200 kompressor cranks at about 800rpm but idles to 400rpm but kick to 600rpm when engaged with ac, and his w202 c220 does same too though i'm still yet to understand such dynamics , maybe there's an ac module that does that, who knows?

saw a video on youtube about the W202 C230K holding up its gears till higher revs to enable the engine warm up especially on cold morning. So maybe that's y its starts with higher revs to get it to full operational tempt quicker. Pls its jst my thought ooh. Pls need ur advice on my A/C. Lately in stop and go traffic it seems 2 warm up a-bit, like its jst normal fan air blowing but on normal cruise the cold can somtimes be unbearable, what cld be wrong?

So today I passed by the workshop- the had already mounted the radiator and AC condenser unit. Unfortunately they had to reuse the old condenser unit because of a mismatch at both inlets (or is it inlet and outlet??) of the condenser.

Old/Original condenser inlet looked like this (notice the groove inside the hole); The AC hose/Pipe was designed in such a way that it would only create an airtight connection within the grroved inlet

The only solution would have been to get AC hoses that would match the new condenser, but after the stress of getting just the radiator hoses, I hate to think of what sourcing for AC hoses/pipes would be like.
Will have to trade in the condenser for some other part.

Good thing is that I'm done with Engine issues. Next is the transmission fluid/filter change and the petrol pump change...

...And then the pimping would start...

guy u rly try, no good thing comes easy. This ur effort no go waste, jst hope that eventually u'll achieve wat u set out to and show the way 2 others cos with the huge number of used cars flooding this country this will soon bcome a money spinning venture and a good hobby for the car purist.

9icetoo: Idling or steaming in the morning for long periods is also one of the reasons you get poor mileage. it also wears ur engine out faster according to what i have read so far. Thirty seconds is enough. I don't even wait that long. Once my needle drops to say 1300 rpm, i engage drive and move. This takes about 5 to 10 seconds. I haven't checked my mileage again for a while now. Will do that tomorrow or next before travelling for the weekend. cheers.

this ur idle @ 1300rpm na wah ooh. When ii start my car I get about 1500rpm than in abt 30sec it drops 2 abt 600 to 700rpm and I fill its abnormal 2 even get 1500 for a start. Are we sure say no be problem. Pls hanson, siena and co wats ur take on such rpm behavior?

My brother , in this week calculation,after applying ur tips, i just manage to achieve 14.8mpg over 29.90litres of fuel at 117.1miles..the traffic and the road is still very terrible. Is this how we born money here?So i could own an amg without minding the fuel consumption. To tell you that i'm sick of this is an understatement. I think i will just take this car out on a trip again, and examine it over again in Calabar city and on the highway

One other thing, i use to idle steam this car every morning for like say 5 minutes, i think i'll have to minimise this time too. i have started another observation for the week again. i'll keep u posted

you rly have 2 feel bad, I do get 135mile on 30liters of fuel and still complain a lot about it. Infact lately I drive my car on winter mode all through as long as am not on a trip.

W202 C230K, noticed so much dust on the radiator so I gave it a wash. Have not taken it for a spin yet so dnt know wat possible damage I may have done. Hope its not a bad idea?

Pls fellows I want to know if its bad to wash(splash water rigorously) into the radiator of a car to clean the dust and dirt after a long dusty trip?

The series-produced model will go on sale in Europe in November to be followed in the United States, China, Japan and several other markets in the first half of 2014.

Commercial director Ian Robertson told reporters that the market for electric cars remained young but said BMW was not seeking to be a niche player.
"We're entering the market to be a significant player," he said.
The Munich-based company trumpeted technological features of the model, which can seat four, including a carbon fibre passenger cell to help offset the weight of the batteries and an aluminium chassis.
BMW said the global market for electric vehicles was showing"positive development".
"After almost 93,000 electric vehicles were registered worldwide last year, a total of 150,000 units is already forecast for the current year," a statement said.
Germany set a target in 2008 of having one million electric cars on its roads in 2020 and said it wanted to be a pilot market in the field.

Tats: Maintenance is not a problem here as I'm on a service contract with Mercedes. I pay them £26 every month and they just call me when they determine that service is due which is usually once a year and they take care of it. I drop off the car, they take me home and pick me up later to collect the car serviced and washed or they can come and collect and drop it off when service is finished. All stress removed from me and that's really good. The sound is a bit more than petrol but the latest diesel cars seem to sound less noisy.

have my eyes set on an 2007 E70 bmw X5 3.0d. Having been gathering info about diesel engine so I dnt regret, the consumption is quite good and I dnt plan to use it as an everyday car. But have been going round kaduna were I reside am still not convince with the mechanics I see around and will not want to register with those cut throat COSCHARIS GROUP in abuja.

@ siena, seeing this write starts 2 bring a lot to my mind about my recent gas consumption. I drive a 2000 W202 C230K and I replaced the Original 15' wheels with factory merc 17'. Could that be the cos of the sharp increase in my consumption?

Tats: Its a 2012 Mercedes C class sports Diesel - C220 CDI Blue Efficiency. I get an average of about 55mpg on motorways and between 30 to 45 in urban areas, so its quite economical.

bro how do u cope with ur maintenance, have been thinking about a diesel addition to my lot lately. Anything to be particular abt the service and what to look out for when buying? And hope the dnt sound like those tractors of b4, jst joking.

My bro, u want kill me!!!!! 2500 to 3000 rpm haba u dnt want me to get 2 were am going , on the first 3 gear am always hiting the red line which is about 5200 rpm and most times when I do this long trips on the free way I cld be doing no less than 180km/h and somtimes hitting 210km/h. My speedo is calibrated in mp/h and so is the distanace counter.I drive this bull as hard as possible anytime the road opens up I just floor the gas.

My guy, @ Gee, this tank is standard 62 litres capacity , what you have there as 67 litres fuel is actually a cheat by the filling station. You may have paid for 67 but you actually bought 62 litres or less because you couldnt have driven an empty tank to the gas station.So you actually calculation would be 336miles devided by 62 litres(16.3 gallons) and that gives you
20.6 MPG . This is still high for highway cruise for a car of your type, you could have achieved more.you could have been in the neighbourhood of 23-29mpg on the highway, even up to 31mpg for Kompressor engine, Check your parameters well.Check your catalytic converters and 02 sensors and your mufflers and plugs. You could even change them all to boost your fuel economy, if you have the xtra budget, then you will be surprise at your achievement and performance.

But then come to think of it, why do u have 336 miles because these cars are calibrated in kilometers.That not withstanding, you could have been reving beyond 2500 and 3000 rpm all the way up. Under 2500 to 3000 rpm revving in my own case i was able to chieve 34mpg in a 4 to 5 hr journey in each trip; with a little extra budget i know i can achieve more.

When I was to buy my car last year 2 replace my honda 2004 EX, the bmw E46 was the first piece on my mind. But cld not find one to match my budget and value cos most of the ones I saw were already beat down so I eneded up with a 2000 C230 kompressor. Great car, in juts about a year of purchase I have done like 30000km on it, its such a gud everyday car so u might wanna check that C220 out cos I heard its got good fuel economy and performance too. All the best at it.

When i was in Calabar,in my 1995 c180 i was able to gain upto 23mpg distance in the city over a week observation and calculation(previous odometer reading -current odometer reading divided by the litres fueled at the same gas station, after having converted to miles and gallons),and 34 mpg on the highway i.e between Calabar and Port Harcourt and vice versa but when i returned to PH, i could only gain just 13 mpg(very disturbing..even wondering if i had miscalculated the Calabar mpg? because of the sharp difference to that of PH, but for that of the higway i can still remember refilling 17 litres on going and coming). However, overhere in PH you can hardly drive up to 1km/h in most part of my route while going to work except going to town, and almost every 5 seconds stop and moves, the roads are extremely bad though is/about being underconstruction.I am trying hard to see what i could gain again in the next one week.. i have clean my plugs. Pour 1/2 gallon of thinner into my fuel tank and fill up my tank with fuel. I am trying hard to gain more and would keep you posted then

Bro mase point of order here its not in all cases that V6 are more powerful that 4 bangers. Example most 4 cylinder C230 kompressor will out-gun almost any honda except the honda NSX or the TYPE R. I stand 2 be corrected.

Eyop: Yeah i have taken the decision to stick with the 2005 Mercedes C230 Kompressor. The 2007 is not economical at all so let me just stick with the 2005. However i asked a question which no one has done justice to it. It's on the issue of the fuel. The 2005 Mercedes C230 requires premium unleaded fuel but in Nigeria it's the regular unleaded fuel that we have and the octane is just 90RON while the car requires a minimum of 91RON. So can you contribute to that?

JUO: this is refinery car, ikenna said head gasket is blown and that car is overheating. another mechanic said is valve seal. i will change the valve seal and post new picture.

The last time I had an issue of sort was in my W202 C230k. I took it for diagnostic and an error"sporadical rpm" came up. The mechanic simple deleted the error and change the ATF and till date am all gud. Its been 5 months since then with no issue.

Basically now and again, almost always at very slow speeds, the car becomes incredibly sluggish for the rpm its at, barely driveable if trying to accelerate back up to speed, and usually (but seemingly not always) refuses to kick down while doing this.

Sometimes it seems like its stuck in a higher gear when stopped too, struggling not to stall and hunting when on the brakes in drive at a standstill. If you pull off when its doing this it will always be very sluggish.

No warning lights show, and if you stop, turn the ignition off then straight back on it works perfectly for a bit, then does it again after a while.
